The key difference being that the HD2 is a Windows Mobile phone. Windows Mobile is entirely closed source and cannot be ported to hardware that it does not already run on natively.

Just use launcher7 and it will look similar. There are a few other apps that can make it look like wp7 also.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA

Adding to what mitchell.23 said above, the HTC HD2 is very close hardware wise to some real WP7 devices. That's why the drivers work.

Launcher7 is awesome...but it's not the same as true WP7.
I "do" see the draw to that OS...it's sexy....but why on earth would anyone want to put it on the GNex.
1. The GNex OS (ICS) is sexier.
2. A Windows phone with true WP7 is way better then a GNex with a WP7 ROM.
Just saying.
It's never been done as far as I know it all of Androids lifespan. Sooooooooo....maybe a WP7 phone is in your future?

I see what you're saying, but as others said, the HTC HD2 hardware is very close to that of other WP7 phones (Snapdragon, 480×800 screen, 512 mb ram, HTC drivers), so its not too difficult to get it working in there.
But I see the appeal, I'd definitely be interested in getting a WP7 as a BACKUP device, they're nice devices, but no where near Android or even iOS in terms of customization, apps, and functionality. The UI is great tho.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

WP7 is closed source. The only reason it is able to be on the HD2 is due to licensing and it having been a Windows Mobile device.

I lost some sleep over WP7. I find the whole UI very sexy. After lots of research I decided that it wasn't for me. Lack of apps and bing were the big things. Anyway, this is how i got around that...

I got the itch and bought a focus 2 but only kept it a week. Android just offers better customization and options. I did really like the people app though. Other than that nothing that android didn't offer in a better form and function.

Forget WP7, I'm still itching for a solid N9 or Meego port. The whole OS seems so slick and I've been trying hard not to go out and purchase a black N9 just for the cool "Sleeping Clock" and unified notification stream.

[REQUEST] Galaxy Nexus Cupcake/Doughnut/Eclair ROM

Hey I know this should be in Development Forum but I'm not allowed to post there yet, was wondering if it would be possible for a Dev to make a ROM to run Cupcake/Doughnut/Eclair on the GNexus?
Obviously not for a daily driver but for simple curiosity to its possibility and its speed. I imagine that on such a powerful device such a simple OS would run blazingly fast.
Feel free to repost this in the right forum, actually please do.
AJ
Q: Why the hell would you want to do that ? :| You want fast ? Try a 4.0.3 ROM and that's it. End of story.
I wouldn't use it daily, I just never got to use the old android versions and I think it would be a cool gimmick. If the G1 can run ICS why can't the Nexus run Cupcake?
I'm currently running the AOKP (Kang Project), I'd say its the best ICS ROM I've come across
Why would you ever want to do this? it would be equivalent to taking your PC and putting windows 95 on it.....Why would you. 4.0.3 ICS works fine, it doesn't slow the phone down any, downgrading to an older OS isn't going to show you some amazing massive speed increase.
While it may be possible, I think you can assume from the tenor of the responses so far that it isn't too likely that you'll find a lot of people interested in investing the time to make it happen.

This may be the only constructive reply here, thank you. I just wondered if it would be possible or if anyone else was curious enough to try it. Never mine, I'm holding out for a sense ROM, again not a daily driver just a time to time use thing
as ittekaimus said, you'd be unable to run those.
all those versions of android required physical buttons, so you won't have home, back, or menu unless you added softkeys, would would basically require a rewrite of the original code. and no one is going to do it.

Considering there's no touchwiz tablet ui for 4.1 yet the only thing I could see being ported would be a touchwiz phone ui. And even then that would be a challenge in its own. But xda proves the unlikely everyday so who knows.

Why? Man I had that on my captivate and it's even worse now. You really want your nexus 7 looking likely to its running gingerbread?

Far be it for me to support TW, but the new TW on S3 looks ok(not good, but ok). I prefer the N7's look (tried true tab UI fix, 192DPI,160DPI but came back to the default 1), but that doesnt mean ppl shouldnt have options. I am more of a sense 4 fan though.
i don't know if it is possoble, but: i found an option in the latest jelly bean touch wiz leak, to activate TabletUi. I only tested it with Galaxy Nexus but it force closed. Smalldookie ordered a nexus 7, when it's there we will try.
If you want a 7" tablet with TouchWiz, Samsung has a lot of them for you to look at. Using a ported TouchWiz ROM on the Nexus 7 probably wouldn't work that well, with TouchWiz being propitiatory and all.

Honestly it's probably not possible, you would need some proprietary source code.
My roommate has a gtab2 and touchwiz sucks on it. It's bogged down so much from all the garbage. And of course my phone has htc sense and also very bogged down. Pure android is the way to go imo

Apparently if a user installs Touchwiz, it negitavely affects anyone else significantly; because all customizations that others don't approve of obviously do this
This isn't a closed-down OS like iOS, but if you feel it should be, perhaps your using the wrong OS/device...

I just don't get why someone would buy a device and shoehorn something onto it like this. It seems like when stuff like this happens the performance isn't as good and features are missing.
Why not wait a month or two and wait for the manufacturer to develop it properly, then have vanilla android built for it? You get the best of both worlds. With the price to performance ratio, and popularity of the platform, it is bound to happen.
Edit: Additionally, it can be viewed that wanting this would tell manufacturers "We want your skin on any android device" and they would open it up to allow that to happen. However, it just seems they hear "I want your locked down customized device so much I'm going give you tons of money!" and things just continue as the locked down platform you mentioned.
To each his own. No its not a crime to want touchwiz but it's a forum so I'm going to state my opinion
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
The only reason I considered a galaxy tab 2 was because touchwiz. It just makes a tablet more fun, has alot more options.
But it also is missing the drag and drop to create folders functionality. Folders in Touchwiz act more like gingerbread. Also don't get the screenshot button, it's pointless, screen shots are already built in holding power + volume down. The screen shot virtual button is easy to bump.
To each his own. Ever since I put cm7 on my captivate I've been somewhat of an android purist. I always thought sense looked cool so I got my vivid and flyer to check it out and found i didn't like it as much as I though I did. Sense is neat but unnecessary and makes customization a pain. I activated the aosp lockscreen on my vivid yesterday only to find out that alarms and phone calls won't display when the phone is locked because Sense uses its lockscreen to display the information.
I think pre ics the skins were necessary because android was an ugly beast and most of the core apps were very basic but ics and up android looks gorgeous and skins just impede on its natural beauty. Put it this way when my vivid got its ics update I was sure if it updated or not. Everything still looked like gingerbread. I had to check the settings to make sure I was indeed on 4.03. And htc disabled the over scroll and ics animations!

I don't use it on my TouchPad. I feel it's too buggy and too limited with what it can do. At first I loved WebOS now I don't see the point of booting into it.
Maybe when people who actually care about making it better get their hands on the source code things will be different. The dev community is awesome with WebOS.

Thank god for Paranoid Android!
I like it. Going from phone to tablet should be seamless - everything in the same position on screen. We've grown to the Android tablet UI for about 20 months since Honeycomb first rolled out, and naturally this is a change. The design team had to give this serious consideration before making it happen, so there must be a solid rationale behind it all. One more step towards eliminating fragmentation.

Making the tablet experience the exact same as the phone one does not equal getting rid of "fragmentation" (that word gets throw around so much people are forgetting what it means but that's a different discussion). Other than a larger screen what advantage does a tablet have over a phone if it's the exact same UI? There isn't one. There should be some kind of distinguishing factors between the two types of devices or there stops being a point buying both when there are Phablets like the note out.

This isn't even related to the nexus 4 forum..

That's like asking an s4 user "why would you want aosp? Just buy a nexus"
Like I said in a different thread. I'd be happy with an aosp base and a sense 5 overlay. And no I won't buy an HTC, tired of them releasing a phone every 6 months. But its just for the looks. The carrier skins aren't bad, but their base is and their update delays..
I'm using the Sony Xperia Z launcher on AOKP.. For me.. I just want the launcher of sense, maybe touchwiz, etc. The full ROM isn't a concern to me, but its cool to have more to choose from.. Some may want the power of nexus with the features of Samsung? One can dream..
But to each his own

Hmmm... not impossible, but close. Firstly, touchwiz isn't open source. Secondly, vastly different hardware.

True, but I have ported a ROM from the galaxy nexus to the HTC one XL, a lot of it is just decompiling and patching smali files.. It takes a while, but would probably take even longer when porting something not aosp

Even if it could be done it's doubtful it will be for the simple reason very few would want it. As has been said touchwiz is truly awful

first the device needs to be announced first
second is it needs to be released for someone to make a sys dump..
and third some one must be brave enough to volunteer his/her device to the cause..which is i think not that bad..
i dont think its impossible, but seriously you want touchwiz rom in nexus device?
many touchwizer i know are dying to have vanilla on their device

no really it is impossible to get touchwiz framework ported to our nexus. Galaxy framework isnt open source and uses different hardware! So its not possible to get that work on our n4. Just maybe some theme mods and the launcher. But lockscreen the apps and the new functions that the Galaxy s4 would become cant ported to the N4. You maybe saw the LG Optimus G Port in Android Development here on our forum and the lg uses exactly the same hardware and its rom is in ALPHA Stage and the developer bricked his phone due porting.

Anyone asking these sort of questions:
"Why would you want ______ on a nexus if you wanted ______ you should have bought a ______. "
Will be answered with
"Because we f***ing can, welcome to nexus"
God I hope not. Down with TW!
