Anyone stuck the accelerometer on their galaxy S3 yet? Only one axis on mine works now. Is there a way to unstick them or am I about to have to try to make the thing stock again and go for warranty service?
It may be broken. Try wiping and see if it fixes it.

Did a factory reset, didn't help Any idea on how these things functions? like can I tap it a certain way to unstick it? Pretty sure it happened when I dropped it about 3 feet. Its got a heck of a case so there was no phone damage at all but perhaps the shock stuck the accelerometer.

They contain microscopic crystal structures that get stressed by accelerative forces, which causes a voltage to be generated. If you have two microstructures next to each other, they have a certain capacitance between them. If an accelerative force moves one of the structures, then the capacitance will change. Add some circuitry to convert from capacitance to voltage, and you will get an accelerometer
The drop most likely broke your accelerometer and threw off the crystal structures. I don't know if there is any fix. My advice would be to use your Warranty

Do I need to unroot and flash back to stock? or will they cover hardware issues regardless of the OS?

I had the same situation. I flashed back to stock and it has been fixed for over a week. I have not re rooted or rommed yet. Stone stock it works fine.

A few weeks ago in las Vegas I noticed that my phones screen was not turning on after being out in the heat.
I rebooted etc etc but the real problem was just that the phone itself was awake and running, but pressing the power button would light up the capacitive buttons but no screen.
I could even swipe to open the phone and feel the vibration of it opening, answer calls by guessing and swiping etc.
The phone would be fine after it cooled down.
Now I'm back in a normal weather city and it's still happening.
Even just being in my pocket... It needs to be cooled down a little or no screen.
Doesn't seem like it matters but;
Cm7
No custom kernels at least not that I ever Installed
I only did the agps fix in terms of mods.
I guess I'm screwed since I'm over the year warranty. Any ideas?

I should point out that in use the extended battery.

Would really like some advice here. Moving to a new device is not ideal but if this is hardware what choice would I have as I'm out of warranty...

Try flashing a different ROM, see if it happens in the bootloader or recovery... I'm thinking hardware issue, if those don't fix it then it definitely is.

thanks, i will try it.
I had the kang versiion of CM9 but it was a giant fail on my device. Maybe because I did not flash a new kernel, but regardless it just did not work well.
I may try and go stock, just to see what happens, and if I can stomach sense anymore.
Hardware issue!
I had this happen to a different phone of mine. The heat actually started to make the glue holding the screen and connectors in melt away, so the screen kept going in and out. The screen and touch digitilizer are different. You may still feel feedback but the screen just isnt powering on! Try opening your phone and looking inside to see if the connections are still nice and tight. Usually its like a ribbon cable sort of thing holding everything in place.

Awesome! I installed paranoid android and aside from a few errors its been slightly better.
I think though that I will get a service manual somewhere online and take it apart and try and clean it out.
Most electronics I've owned in las Vegas have had overheating issues so I am not surpised this happened to the phone as well

Hi I have a note 2 and replaced the screen completely before that the phone was working perfectly. I assembled everything back checked that everything was connected putted the battery tried to turned on and nothing. I also connected to the charger and still nothing no charging doesn't boot up. What could be happening here I double checked everything and nothing is missing if anyone could help me I'll appreciate it
Random guess, but like a computer you could have had static electricity and not grounded prior to working and fried your motherboard

man this is scary as I broke my screen on july 4th and is waiting for my replacement screen to arrive. I'm going to try to replace the screen myself. Maybe you broke a wire or something while you were detaching the screen from the digitizer.
Now i'm nervous about doing the screen replacement myself...oh wells, gotta save some money...lol
I think I know why it doesn't work is because I'm trying to use the n7100 screen on my sgh-t889 this version of t-mobile uses the n7105 screen and I bought the wrong one. That's why it won't work

Well, I hate to point out the obvious, but apparently that is not the case.
Did you wear some type of non-conductive gloves when you were doing this? handling circuitry with bare hands is a big no no. It is very possible that you ruined the device simply by touching it.
Here is what I would do (not anything but troubleshooting to pin point a possible problem really):
Warranty the thing.
Good luck.

How do you know the replacement screen is not bad itself..
have you tried connecting it to the computer and getting into download mode or seeing if the phone is ACTUALLY Working..Also a bad or cheap lcd could have shorted something out if you are sure you did not do so replacing it..
Sorry for your luck but it sounds like you need another note 2 phone for some testing. or RMA THE LCD and try another .
Good LUCK
I'll start by saying I don't have a whole lot of specifics on the issue as this isn't currently my phone. I'm looking to buy one and the seller said that one morning the phone would sporadically not respond to touch and by the end of the day wouldn't respond at all. She said that sometimes if she repeatedly locks and unlocks the phone it will work for a short time before becoming unresponsive again. She says there has been no water damage and she hasn't done any sort of software updates recently. She did say that a couple weeks before the issue started that it fell off her night stand but didn't seem to effect it at the time.
My question is has anyone run into this issue before? If so is it a software issue that could be remedied by doing a full wipe back to stock software? Or is it a hardware issue such as a bad digitizer or maybe something as simple as the digitizer cable coming loose?
I did some googling and the only thing I found about this issue was a result of flashing the wrong ROM to the s3. Any help would be appreciated.

I was going to say it sounds like the digitizer controller died/was bricked by a wrong rom.

Forgot to mention it but I pulled the back off and checked the ribbon cable. Removed and reseated it as well as made sure it wasn't corroded. Still a no go but on the bright side I found a nicely priced "blemished" screen on eBay so in a couple weeks I should be rocking the s3! And I'm glad to be in these forums. Looks like I'm going to have more options than I can handle.

If blemished means lightly scuffed just use some glass cleaner on it in a small coat, buddy of mine did that with his iPhone looked brand new.
& yep lol, soo many choices for ROMs and kernels for this phone, gotta love it :good:
So I got bored and disassembled and cleaned the connections on the board as well as the connections on the back of the screen. After reassembling it I get response from the touch screen again although its as though there's a phantom finger making random movements on the screen.

Making the iPhone jealous one user at a time.
So I guess it was just a bad digitizer. Just got my new one and got it swapped out and I'm good as new! Though if anyone else is looking to replace a screen and aren't too brave when it comes to taking a phone apart I would suggest getting a screen that has the frame already attached to it. Removing the screen from the frame and reattaching is a bit tricky.
Hello,
2 weeks before I got water in my phone (xperia S), but now it's dried up. Everything's working properly but I'm facing a certain problem. A particular region/area of he screen doesn't respond to touch at all. Though there's no deformation in the display. Could you please help me out. I've tried a hard reset, rebooting, drying it up with a dryer, reinstalling the os and all. But still no good. I face many problems while choosing options like can't delete any messages. Even going to the landscape mode doesn't help. Please do help. :/
hmmmm

I tried rebooting several times. But no good. If the LCD's damaged then won't the display should also has been dispersed?
try to clean screen with alcohol or something for glass.
This sometimes occure when screen is dirty on some places, good clean may also fix that.
Im telling this from my experience.
If nothing helps, try to get it on warranty if you still have it.

Never use drier on a wet phone as it might damage internal circuits. Water damage is something that is totally unpredictable. that part of screen might start working in a few days or a few hours or not at all ever. I'd suggest wait it out for a few days. If the problem doesn't get auto corrected, then you will have to take it for repairs(A water damaged phone's days are numbered though,no matter what you do)
Does the ok/cancel button show problem only? If you scroll wallpaper through that region, does it work?

Yes, that's the only problem. And, no it doesn't works if I tap on the region, it recognizes the tap on either above/ below area and acts accordingly.

I didn't know that. It's been nearly a month still no good.
GT-N5110 wifi version. Ive had this device for 10 days. Out the box it was running 4.1.2 and seemed work great other than the occasional 3-5 seconds when screen would become unresponsive during normal use. After using it for a few days I decided to go ahead and update to 4.2.2 thinking maybe it would fix the screen issue. It did fix that issue but now im having another problem. After the device sits dormant for awhile the screen doesnt respond to touch but still works fine with the s pen. Ill turn it on after sitting all night and after swiping to unlock the screen it becomes unresponsive. I usually have to lock/unlock the screen several times before it will start responding. After it starts working I can be on it for hours with no more problems. But if I lock the screen an set it down for awhile when I go to use it again it does the samething. It seems like it has to warm up. I tried doing factory data reset but that didnt help. It is rooted also but the only thing ive done so far is get rid of some bloatware.(i didnt root it untill after the problem started). Anyone have any advice?
Do you have your note in a cover , and if so does it have a magnet.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using xda app-developers app
That does sound rather crazy, the unresponsiveness is out of the ordinary... did you try turning off a lot of the extra features built in by Samsung? another thing you could do is download Clean Master from the play store and take a look at your Ram use-age and clean out some cache files with it, this might help with the lag. The touch response could be hindered due to a case or screen protector... other than that the only thing i could think is if there was physical damage done to it before that could cause the touch screen to act that way.
Ummmm... I would have taken it back to the store and asked for a replacement.
That is not normal at all. even with the device's settings left alone, there should not be any issues with responses with touch.
Note... The pen feature is totally separate from touch. The screen has two different features, one being a digitizer for the pen function the other for touch. It is possible that during assembly that the connection for the touch screen is faulty, as a bad solder joint during wave process could make the connection heat related. As the device cools, the contacts contract causing a fault with touch operation. When heated up from normal use, expansion forces contact between connector and board for normal operation to function with touchscreen.
