Particular region of the screen doesn't respond to touch at all. - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hello,
2 weeks before I got water in my phone (xperia S), but now it's dried up. Everything's working properly but I'm facing a certain problem. A particular region/area of he screen doesn't respond to touch at all. Though there's no deformation in the display. Could you please help me out. I've tried a hard reset, rebooting, drying it up with a dryer, reinstalling the os and all. But still no good. I face many problems while choosing options like can't delete any messages. Even going to the landscape mode doesn't help. Please do help. :/

hmmmm
water damage, you may have to replace the screen
the part that got wet shorted out and now doesn't work

I have it, restart seems to fix that problem.

I tried rebooting several times. But no good. If the LCD's damaged then won't the display should also has been dispersed?

try to clean screen with alcohol or something for glass.
This sometimes occure when screen is dirty on some places, good clean may also fix that.
Im telling this from my experience.
If nothing helps, try to get it on warranty if you still have it.

Never use drier on a wet phone as it might damage internal circuits. Water damage is something that is totally unpredictable. that part of screen might start working in a few days or a few hours or not at all ever. I'd suggest wait it out for a few days. If the problem doesn't get auto corrected, then you will have to take it for repairs(A water damaged phone's days are numbered though,no matter what you do)

Does the ok/cancel button show problem only? If you scroll wallpaper through that region, does it work?

Yes, that's the only problem. And, no it doesn't works if I tap on the region, it recognizes the tap on either above/ below area and acts accordingly.

Xperia plays touchscreen

hey there guys and girls,
This is my first post and was just wondering about my xperia plays touchscreen. I bought it almost a year ago and since i got it the problem has been occuring. Its not major dont get me wrong but it can be really annoying when i am texting my frineds. What happens is that i will press a letter then it will just decide to press a bunch if other letters next to them. Also the keyboard will randomly go down so ill end up clicking send and completely wasting a text.
Any help would be great... Thanks xD
Large fingers? lets hope its not a digitizer problem but you did state its been happening since you got the phone. the xperia play does seem to me to be more sensitive to the amount of pressure needed or not needed; or is it just me?
Got used to using swype keyboard on my sgs and haven't used the stock keyboard on the play.
you could try to clear data for the keyboard Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>"keyboard"
maybe another keyboard will solve your problem entirely, there are plenty of them on the market/store.
this is just one as there are many
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImNvbS52bGx3cC5pbnB1dG1ldGhvZC5sYXRpbiJd
edit: forgot to mention, if you install this or any other input method you will first need to enable it in Settings>Language & keyboard>"keyboard"
just tick the box next to the keyboard and it will give you a prompt; read>OK
then say in messaging just press and hold on the text input field and select input method>select keyboard you want to use
also, when your keyboard disappears for whatever reason or doesn't show when needed you can press and hold the menu button for a few seconds to bring your keyboard up or make it go away.
I pulled off the screen protector and that seemed to fix it for me.
i've been having the exact same problem, it seems to occur mostly when my phone is charging or when it's too warm. Didn't bother sending it back though, but yes, it can be verry annoying when trying to text
Don't worry, its a standard Sony Ericsson issue. Usually occurs when the device overheats.
Reboot or look into ROM flashing and the problem will be resolved
Sent from my Xperia Play using xda premium
Mine does that when there's moisture on the screen, or when plugged into the charger. I've found typing to be much less annoying in wet conditions when using Swype.
Dry off your screen often enough and it should help. Removing the anti-shatter film (which is next to useless anyway) also makes a difference.

Welcome to XDA!
Try solutions posted above.
If You ever need to test any piece of hardware on your phone, try accesing serice menu by typing this code in Dialler:
*#*#7378423#*#*
From there You can access Service tests menu and test Your Touch Screen/Earphone/Display just to mention a few.
Also screen protector isn't any good for me, standard keyboard is too small and stock firmware is to laggy to type messages. Solution is easy if You are ready to give your phone a boost by flashing it as mentioned by someone else above.
Wow, there is a great amount of different anwsers
I remember that someone on these forums said that Xplay has problems with multitouch regonizing (or something)
Basicly, the touch points wont reset unless you do something (i dont remember what)
Personaly, i just press powerbutto to "shut down" my screen, press main menu butto and open the lock, its all back to normal
EDIT: wait few seconds (like 5 or so) before you reopen the screen
i'm having a similiar problem, i charged my phone with 5v a couple times, so the last week, the touchscreen doesn't work. sometimes it does, it has been abit tricky. it like works sometimes, with an effort of constantly mashing the screen (with swipes and presses), but the last 24 hours, it's been practically dead. every other part of the phone works, like LED, pad controls, speaker, etc etc, just touchscreen is dead... any solution, methods?

Honestly, I have no idea. I just know that the digitizer is what makes the touch screen work, and that there have been xda users buying them for replacement parts before.

I have been getting this problem when coming in from outside. I can hold my finger about 1cm above the touchscreen and it will type random letters as well. Seems to be affected worse in bottom left hand corner for me. It settles back down after a while of being indoors. Its really weird though.

That's because the difference in temperature and humidity causes condensation to gather on the screen, temporarily. Capacitive touch screens work by conducting electricity, and moisture is conductive.

Problem with touch screen

Does anybody else have a problem with their Play's touch screen?
It is when my hands are warm or clammy or in a hot environment, or if my hands are sweating a little.. then when typing the touch screen just goes crazy. By crazy, I mean it keeps making random taps everywhere, and with Swype keyboard, gets really annoying!!!
Any tips? I have tried cooling down my hands under cold tap, using paper towels to dry them, drying the screen. I think maybe it is because the phone gets warm because overclocking to 1.5GHz...
Yeah, I had the same "problem". The touchscreen is thermal-based so it will act accordingly to any thermal temperature imput. For example, try blowing hot air to your screen for a short period of time; you'll notice it will go as crazy as you described it. To me, it happened when I was speaking to someone for a long time, my ear heated the screen and after the call ended, the phone was acting on his own.
Cleaning the screen will solve this funny problem.
Not too hot in the UK so not really faced this problem. What is annoying is when I'm in the middle of swyping and the phone just stops my Swype and doesn't work temporarily when I Swype over certain letters

Well, my touch screen basically quit on me... sometimes there is massive touch screen lag, and after awhile it just quits...

Hmm, I am in the UK.. it isn't that hot, I am even in an air-conditioned office but as soon as my hands get a bit clammy (always!) then it just goes crazy on me. I thought it might be the screen protector, so I took it off, but still having problems. It is getting to the point where I am considering a new phone.
Try punching it
Disclaimer: not guaranteed to work (although I have tried it before)

Yes punching is a resourceful method of permanently ending all of these problems. But if you're looking for something a bit more temporary in it's resolution, use some rubbing alcohol, and clean the screen with it. Also your flex cable could be on the way out... when it starts wearing out it does this. Open the gamepad the next time it starts going mad and you will see it stops
I'm not having any probs. Normally when its hot, my stock ROM get into 42celsius .. With overclocking it would be 50+..

I'm in the UK and I have this problem every day, I've had to start using a stylus to type, it's so slow, I posted about it in the Q&A section and someone said to get a screen protector.
I have the same issues, too.. it sucks, it's making it very hard to swype.
I have noticed if I swype in landscape the problem doesn't exist, only in portrait.
And, I've flashed a new rom and it still happens, so not a software issue.
---------- Post added at 01:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 PM ----------
Hard to replace cable? I was thinking about ordering a new touch screen digitizer but when watching the tear down didn't wanna take apart the entire phone.
Yes this does happen. This also happens when the charger is plugged in.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I had a screen protector and still had the issue, in fact it seemed worse with that, so I ripped it off out of frustration.
I will try some rubbing alcohol (may get some alcohol wipes or something) as I know that dries things out, and it seems to be moisture and heat that makes it bad.
I guess my next question is, why does it only happen in portrait mode? (if it is the ribbon cable thing, that sucks).
And also, is this an issue for other phones? I am guessing not
I've found that if my screen starts going "click crazy". I just turn off the screen and turn it back on and it solves it.
Why it happens? You got me.

It happens to me in Landscape too
....so no-one has a fix for it?
No idea.. sucks because looks like a bunch of us have this issue, too.
Same prob here!
It starts a few months after I buy the phone, and I take it to the warranty.
They changed not only the screen, but the whole front part, and it seem that was ok. But some months ago I noticed that it was back.
I already try using stock GB, other GB roms, ICS roms, and the problem continues.
But for me it happens only in landscape mode. In portrait mode I rarely have problems.
had this problem before I bought a decent quality screen protector.

I am desperate in trying to fix my Play. I want to try everything first before I buy a digitizer.

Xperia M Screen (Possibly) Broken

Hi,
I 'dropped' my phone hard on a table and now the screen doesn't show anything. I can hear the phone clicks so that works. I've tried turning it on and off etc. but no luck.
Might it be loose wire or other part?
Thanks
If the screen remains fully black when you attempt to switch it on then its likely to be a loose wire. If there is a backlight then it could be either a loose wire or a damaged LCD screen.

There is a backlight indeed. I wonder how much I can take apart myself to find out. I can't see any obvious dents or cracks etc. on the screen or casing etc. so maybe something is loose?

There is nothing wrong with the software. The OP dropped the phone onto a table, that would have caused a hardware problem.

There is no point in trying it because it is a hardware issue. The OP can hear the clicks it makes when it unlocks and they try to hear it, meaning that it boots fine and there is a working kernel. Its a hardware issue, possibly caused by the ribbon cable to the screen coming loose.

Nope, I can't see the Sony/Xperia logo.
Yeah I wondered would a cable be loose. Is it easy to take this phone apart? If not I might try claim the warranty. There is no physical damage at all.

I haven't disassembled the phone myself (I have had no need for it), however I have just watched a YouTube video and it seemed to be easy enough to disassemble and reassemble. If you look it up yourself and judge whether you wish to try yourself or not. If you have warranty from the store you bought your phone at it will more than likely cover accidental drop damage so if you don't wish to risk your phone then that would be your best option in all fairness.
Try the service manuals...
OK I opened it up and I couldn't see what the problem was. Nothing appears damanged, as expected. There are three main ribbon cables, none of them appeared loose. However, when disconnecting the mainboard from the phone case, the middle cable, which lights the LCD screen, has become fully detatched. It seems that unlike the other two cables, it connects via adhesive. I don't have thermal adhesive. When the phone turns on, now there is no backlight in addition to nothing being visible on the screen. PC Companion picks up the phone so all of that seems to be working. But no LCD and now no backlight. Unfortunately, there is evidence of me opening the phone. I doubt the warranty would be accepted now...?
In the reassembly video in document 1277-1354_Rev1 , it shows the three connectors just snapping/connecting....no glue situation.
If there is anything else I can do via home repair, what could I do? I can't be that far off, surely?
even if you don't open it, you can't file a warranty on SONY Service Centre if the damage is LCD, just buy a new LCD and replace it
Would that be the case even if I bought it locked on a network? How would they know it's the LCD if I don't say? Once before, with another smartphone, instead of listing everything I understood to the manufacturer, I told them almost nothing and got a full replacement.

Hey.. I flashed cm12 unofficial ROM 2-3 months ago on my lg d855.. There weren't any major bugs.. But recently I noticed that sometimes when I press the power button to unlock it .. The touch screen seems to stop working.. This happens only on the lock screen... I Also tried holding the power button and try to tap the "power off / reboot" buttons.. It doesn't work too.. But.. The weird part is..when I sort of slap the screen it starts to work again .. My question is .. Is it a ROM bug? Or is it a hardware issue.. If its a software issue.. Then why does it start working when I slap it.. And if its a hardware issue.. Why does it only occur on the lock screen? Please help.. Thanks

I haven't had this problem on the D851, but I would try updating your device to the newest version of Cyanogenmod.
Also, back when I had the G2 I went through this problem a lot and actually had about five of them because they were under warranty. The problem was that the seal for the screen would come undone, and it's hard to notice since the screen is literally the entire front of the phone. When this seal broke, water would seep in and cause chaos with the screen. Wouldn't work in certain parts and so much more. I haven't had this happen on the G3, but my seal has broken and I can see it, so it's only a matter of time before water gets in there (or until I get the screen replaced). I've always had this problem with LGs they're just so damn good that I live with it. I'd bet this is what's going on if it's not the hardware.

If you can push it in then the seal is definitely broken.
On my G2, when in a moist and humid environment condensation would form on the inside of the device, but it was nothing too big and went away after a while. However, when too much fluid built up in the inside it began typing on its own. Furthermore, it got to the point where certain parts of the screen were unresponsive. This is why I had about five of them because over time it did get bad.
Although if there is water in the device rice usually absorbs it. Get a ziplock bag and fill it with rice. Take your battery, sim card, and sd card out, then place the phone in the bag full of rice. Seal it and shake it up a bit and let it sit over night. Keep the back cover off as well. If this is an option. I understand you might need your phone, but if you get a time where about eight hours are free I would highly recommend this. I have no idea how it works, but it takes the moisture out of the phone. I've done this with waterlogged phones, my G2, etc.
When I did that on the G2 it fixed my problems until moisture got back in there. I don't take care of my phones too well, so moisture got back in fast. Try this out and if it works just avoid keeping your phone in moist places (like playing music in shower, being on it while raining, etc.). If this fixes the problem it should hold you off until you can get the screen resealed or a new screen.
If it is with the hardware and its still under warranty I would get a replacement. I would revert to the stock ROM (if you made a backup) or find one and make sure it's updated. I would then do a full unroot, and attempt to make it so they cannot tell it was rooted. I would then attempt to get the replacement. Rooting voids the warranty, but if you unrooted I doubt they could tell. Furthermore, if you have insurance on the phone this could also work.
Edit: If you try the rice then try to replace the screen I would ensure that the current screen works properly after the rice. Make sure all the moisture is out before you replace the screen that way no moisture is trapped in there.

First of all.. Thank you soo much.. Thank you for the time.u put into these posts.. It has really helped me.out a lot.. I can totally see how the rice method could work.. But it has not got to the point where its un-usable.. As I said, its only in the lock screen.. It has never ever occurred during actually using it.. I haven't found any dead spots.. Nothing.. If I use the rice trick to take out the moisture,, and if I can use the same screen (which should still work) can I just take it out and glue it in to place? What type of adhesive should be good... I'm asking this because I got this from abroad.. And it's not an international warranty. So there's no way I'm getting a warranty replacement .. So ive gotta make with what I have.. But this is very sad though, specially from such a big company.. I mean gluing a screen is not that hard.. I played loads.. Lol.. I really hope hot glue works lol..

Well then I'd try to fix it before it does get unstable! Thing with the lock screen is you're swiping and the moisture defuses the area you're touching which could cause problems. Definitely try the rice! However, I wouldn't recommend gluing it yourself. I imagine it requires some sort of water and heat resistant glue to be effective, and on top of that a professional application. Hot glue definitely won't work! I imagine you want something that looks nice and I can only seeing that being messy and leaving residue. Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure on what lies beneath the screen and if disturbing that could cause further problems. However, I understand you're probably planning on it so please watch a guide such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcoEQVtUwYQ to see how it's done and what you need. There seems to be a lot more to it than just placing some glue on the screen and pressing it back down.
I'm sure you can get a replacement kit with instructions and all the required tools to do it properly for not too steep of a price. Check this out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement...46?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item54198f441a
Or you could take it to a professional like those at Broke Ass Phone: http://www.brokeassphone.com/smartphone-repair-selection/lg-smartphone-repair/lg-g3/ The price is steep, but it's professionally done and comes with a warranty.
Good luck to you!

Hi, ItsJacobee,
Sorry for breaking in, I have the same issue with 2000ftt, and I did tried "rice trick" but no luck. I think the screen is perfectly fitted in the case, when I press the edges, the feel is solid and no room for further pressing in.
My device is D855, I flashed many custom roms (resurrectionremix, CM12, Nameless ROM, CloudyG3 2.1), the mentioned issue happens to many of them but never happened in CloudyG3 & stock rom.
Any idea?
Best regards.

Is it under warranty or do you have insurance on the phone?

Yes, it is under warranty, I am going to restore stock ROM and take it to service center. But I don't know how to trigger the issue (touch screen no response at lock screen while using power button to wake up), in stock rom and cloudyG3, this problem never happen.
Best regards,
D855 Lover.

Thanks for reminding. I restored the phone to stock with the downloaded .TOT file, then go to service center.
I can't trigger the problem in front of the service guy, however, they ask me to left the phone for checking, one day later, they confirmed that my phone is working fine no need to do anything, nothing to be replaced.
CM12 is already good enough, its speed and battery friendly....
I wish developers of CM12 would somehow fix the problem in future updates, as I knew some D855 user (but not much) also having the same issue.
Best regards,

Touch screen problem without charging battery

Hi, recently I'm having a problem with the touch on samsung galaxy a5 2017, a lack of pressure because of the sweat and I thought I would solve it with a film protector, I did not solve then, but investigating I discovered that this bad pressure of the finger on the touch happens to me only when the phone is not in charge, while when it is in charge, everything is fine. I explain you. If I want to send a voice message on whatsapp, when I have sweaty hands especially, I can not record it more than 3 seconds, while instead if I try with the mobile phone in charge, then I turn off the screen, put it in charge, and try again, voila works well, I can drag the app, the widgets, while when I turn off the screen, I remove the charger, everything is back as before. What do you think is due to you? I also put "show touches" in order to see how it behaves during the charge, in fact during the charge I can even use the multitouch with 5 fingers together, while without a charger only 3 fingers detects me. I threw money for the films protector but apparently there is something wrong or internal, or at the software level, I also did a wipe data but I did not solve anything. What could it be?

Reflash stock rom and if the problem persists, it's a hardware issue.

I had already thought about it, in fact I tried it now, and I did not solve anything. How should i do? How can it be a hardware thing if it only does it during the recharge?

Did you factory reset or did you reflash? If you reflashed then it has to be hardware. Then if it still has warranty I would return it. Because it sounds like the screen isn't getting enough power
