Well I have been on alpha 5 cm9 because of my lazy ness... but if I mobile odin an el26 cwm kernel then flash the cwm6 kernel to flash a different rom will it cause issues?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Y the need to flash cwm6 afterwards? You should be able to mobile Odin el26 then flash the rom. But no it won't cause an issue

Is there a place where I can find all the kernels made for this device?
I just want to be able to restore backups.
But I'll need the kernels correct? Or is that cooked into the boot.img?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Can you make a backup using stock recovery?

This link here has most of kernels and modems

EL 26 CWM This is the preferred kernel/recovery you should use to flash/wipe/etc. For the moment it is advised to avoid doing any wiping in ICS based recoveries which means anything that is FB##
Link for updated cm9 kernel by darchstar flashable thru odin or mobile odin only
AOSP Kernel AOSP kernel by TCP good for AOKP, not recommended for CM9 since it might break root.
Ok. So if I want to restore say an ics rom.
Could I flash the rom then restore data through stock recovery?

Recovery is baked in to the kernels. You may not restore an ics backup with a gb recovery and vice versa. To go from ics to gb, Odin el26 and restore a gb rom or wipe and flash something new. To restore an ics rom, from either gb or ics, Odin an ics kernel (immediately boot into recovery) and restore your ics backup. I believe most are using rogue fd02 for that.

To back up and restore ICS rom.
1. Flash el26 cwm, either thru odin or mobile odin (recommend getting mobile odin app so worth it)
2. Boot into recovery by holding volume + and power
3. Perform back up or perform restore which ever one you want to do
4. If you are restoring an ICS nand make sure you flash an ICS kernel after the restore is complete or it wont boot. If you forget to flash the kernel don't panic just power off and hold volume + and power again and you should go back into el26 cwm recovery.

Why el26 and not el29? Confused on this.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
El26 is CWM and the el29 is rogue. There seems to have been a lot less bricks using the CWM.
El26 was the last true clockworkmod produced for our phones

Ok. I tried blu kuban and now want to go back to gb. Have Odin plus roms but definitely want to tread carefully.
I am on el29 baseband which I then added rogue recovery and flashed to
Fd10 blu kuban rom
Fd26 kernel - which I am guessing installed with blu.
Now to go back....? Just use Odin and flash back? To el26? To el29? Does it matter?

Odin the el26 kernel and flash your gb rom of choice after doing a full wipe.
Been reading for a while now. Apparently, the baseband is the modem version. So I'm on el29 and downloaded a few of the newer ones. I am not sure however on flashing the kernel. Same method as modem? Gonna be using Odin for both.

I just rooted my ET4G and I am wanting to install CM9 but i am sort of comfused. Am I still supposed to flash EL26 kernel via odin before I do!? Or do I just straight download and flash ROM + Gapps? With this kernel/recovery... I installed team rouge CWM that the guide shows any help thatnks!

Yes odin/mobile odin to el26+cwm. El29 has rogue repack recovery which can brick when flashing to or from ICS. EL26+cwm was the last kernel to have official cwm recovery.

Yes, but when you flash a new rom the kernel is replaced with whatever kernel is included in the rom. So you will have to reflash the el26cwm kernel every time before switching to a new rom. ICS roms won't boot with the kernel, so when switching from ICS to ICS or ICS to GB you will have to hold power+volume up as soon as phone starts to reboot to get into recovery.

I would also suggest having the rom/gapps/kernel you want to flash already downloaded and on your phone before going to el26cwm kernel once your on any ICS ROM.

Cool thanks ill give that a shot.

What version of cwm can i install if im on Fk23 jb rom??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Agat has a repacked kernel with custom recovery/cwm that works. Look for the thread in the dev section and FOLLOW THE INSTALL GUIDE. Oh and read through the whole thread too. I installed from the external sd card via mobile odin and had no issues what so ever

I always play it safe and Odin back to el26

many have said to use this AGAT FI27 Kernel from source which has CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421
latest is version 0.6.8 . theres a tar and zip file use the tar for Odin. You could mobile odin as well
But you should do what you want to do in recovery and then either Odin or Flash in that recovery STOCK Kernel FK23 for best results.
Ok here is what I have and what i am looking to accomplish. I have a sph-d710 sprint, flashed to boost mobile. Gb27 I have stock firmware rooted, and still have stock recovery. I want to flash a 4.3 build. What kernel that includes a recovery should I use? I prefer twrp but will use cwm if I need to I also have mobile Odin pro for flashing the recovery/ kernel. This is my wife's phone so I am asking for info so I don't screw anything up. Before this I've been strictly using Htc devices and they are so different in steps to flashing brick free. Thanks

You need to flash a safe kernel via Odin one-click or mobile Odin like El26 or EL29 direct boot, and also the recovery and the kernel are together so keep that in mind
