Is there a place where I can find all the kernels made for this device?
I just want to be able to restore backups.
But I'll need the kernels correct? Or is that cooked into the boot.img?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Can you make a backup using stock recovery?

This link here has most of kernels and modems

EL 26 CWM This is the preferred kernel/recovery you should use to flash/wipe/etc. For the moment it is advised to avoid doing any wiping in ICS based recoveries which means anything that is FB##
Link for updated cm9 kernel by darchstar flashable thru odin or mobile odin only
AOSP Kernel AOSP kernel by TCP good for AOKP, not recommended for CM9 since it might break root.
Ok. So if I want to restore say an ics rom.
Could I flash the rom then restore data through stock recovery?

Recovery is baked in to the kernels. You may not restore an ics backup with a gb recovery and vice versa. To go from ics to gb, Odin el26 and restore a gb rom or wipe and flash something new. To restore an ics rom, from either gb or ics, Odin an ics kernel (immediately boot into recovery) and restore your ics backup. I believe most are using rogue fd02 for that.

To back up and restore ICS rom.
1. Flash el26 cwm, either thru odin or mobile odin (recommend getting mobile odin app so worth it)
2. Boot into recovery by holding volume + and power
3. Perform back up or perform restore which ever one you want to do
4. If you are restoring an ICS nand make sure you flash an ICS kernel after the restore is complete or it wont boot. If you forget to flash the kernel don't panic just power off and hold volume + and power again and you should go back into el26 cwm recovery.

Why el26 and not el29? Confused on this.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
El26 is CWM and the el29 is rogue. There seems to have been a lot less bricks using the CWM.
El26 was the last true clockworkmod produced for our phones

Seeing how I'd just got my replcaement because I'd hard bricked my previous one messing with ICS vs. Gb kernals... I got scared.
I just reinstalled CM9 without wiping anything and now I'm back on CM9...
Can you point specifically to which kernal you're referring to?

I would not recommend flashing or wiping or anything with these

Hi for some reason I can not boot into cwm unless I use mobile Odin and flash el26 kernal if I try volume up and power it brings me to the recovery with the android guy and its like yellow and blue lettering if someone can help ty

Have no idea what you are trying to do. Flash kernel, flash ROM, flash Modem, create backup etc....
The stock E4GT does NOT come with CWM. If you want CWM on the stock ROM you can use EL26 or the EL29 (Rogue too) CWMs.
These can be installed via Mobile Odin or sfhub's Autoroot package.
I suggest you do some really serious reading and then do some more reading about how to mod this phone. Otherwise you will end up with an expensive paperweight.
Best and safest place to start is sfhubs EL29 stock rooted, then use his autoroot package to add EL29+CWM+Rogue recovery.
Also don't user ROM Manager OR a 'touch' recovery - you will brick your phone.
Again please read extensively before you brick your phone.
I have root I'm running aokp I have flashed many roms and what not but I just can't boot into recovery (cwm) without using Odin and flashing kernal first then I can

You have to use odin, mobile odin to flash kernels. In odin you have to hold power and volume down first then volume up to get into download mode.
I know how to get into cwm while using Odin never used mobile Odin but like if I shut my phone off and try to boot into cwm I can't

I guess I'm not understanding you completely. Your definitely booting into stock recovery. How exactly are you flashing the el26 kernel?
Send me a pm and I'll explain more to ya if you thank you

AOKP and other ICS ROms typically do not include a custom recovery due to the high risk of bricks. That is why you are unable to get back to cwm. Read the OP of the AOKP thread carefully or you will have an expensive paperweight. On AOKP, you have to Odin EL29 with cwm in order to use recovery safely, then flash an AOSP kernel before rebooting to Android.
As stated... if you flashed an ICS ROM/kernel from a GB CWM setup then CWM won't be there. If you're sure it's still installed and just can't get to it then try downloading "QuickBoot" from the market (it's free) and try the "recovery" option.. maybe that'll work.
Even if you're on an ICS ROM and try to get to CWM you should still get to a stock recovery....
I flashed aokp not knowing cwm would return to stock 3e
So so far I downloaded root exp apk astro file and gapps. I extracted and installed gapps via root explorer.
Now I have the market.
I downloaded Mobil Odin pro.
What's my options now to get a safe cwm recovery or one that I can flash from the phone in order to get some cwm back so I can then nandroid back to stock ics.
Any links to aokp cwm tar file or even a rooted kernel or stock ics rooted rom.
NEED SAFEST WAY TO DO ALL THS FROM MOBIL ODIN while on this aokp junk
I failed to flash gapps before reboot into the aokp but I knew I could get the market back via root explorer

Always flash gapps right after you flash the ROM. But here is what you're looking for: the GB Stock EL26 CWM5 kernel. Here is a link for the .tar.md5 that you can Mobile Odin: http://kernelrepo.chris41g.org/Kern.../Chris41g/Stock CWM/TAR/EL26_StockCWM.tar.md5
This kernel is ONLY for recovery. Do not try to run it on your ROM. Only use it to flash.

When u say don't use it on the aokp rom what do u mean?
If I flash that in Mobil Odin and go into recovery can I still find my original stock ics nAndroid
Or would that have been wiped
All I want to do is get recovery to restore to my stock ics nandroid

NP, glad to help. What I meant that it is a GB kernel so it won't run on ICS (your phone won't boot up). It's only meant for using recovery
When i flashed the el26 i restored my nandroid from that recovery and booted into my stock ics touchwiz which also apparantely had AGAT RECOVERY backed up.. So now recovery is once again agat
.. That was a strange mess.. Certain i was gonna brick ... I almost just flashed the stock ff18 tar but glad the recovery let me restore to ics nandroid

Based on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
It seems that the main issue was some emmc issue causing bricks when flashing with ICS because we didn't have an official release or the source.
I've seen a few rom developers state that they think this problem has been solved in some later kernels. Now that we have an official ICS release, Is this a safe process now? Are there certain roms or kernels I should be using to get ICS recovery to work safely?
Basically I want to no longer have to flash el29 just to try things like Google Now ports and stuff. I want a fully mobile option to flash multiple roms at my leisure like other phones
Agats kernel/recovery is safe. Sleshepic's kernel/recovery is also safe. I flash ICS to ICS alot thru their recoveries no problem.

I am glad someone else asked this because I was just about to do the same. I am on Agat and was about to go from stock rom to AOKP Milestone 6 but wasn't sure if I could flash back to TW based roms without having to go to EL29.
How do I flash their recoveries? I already rooted and have superuser. I just don't have a recovery and I'm confused on the articles I've read. Thanks in advance.

Every kernel is safe as long as you don't factory reset. use calks flash all zip instead of the wipe in recovery. Rujelus22 has a 2x wipe zip that does it twice. They wipe cache, dalvik, and system data in one shot.
What kernel should i be downloading? I have stock ICS rooted.

Flash Agats kernel. The .tar file in odin or mobile odin.

Flash whatever kernel you made the backup with, then restore your backup.
