I know I'm not suppossed to post here, but nobdoy responded to my other thread. So I accidentally threw my mytouch on the ground and I lost the battery to it. My question is, if you guys plug in the mytouch into a usb or wall outlet, does the phone light still light up without the battery? Can you turn it on?
Thanks.
No.. it will happen only when you remove battery After you have connected to charger/ USB.
first of all, how do you "accidentally" throw your phone? but no the phone will not turn on or do anything without a battery.
Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure before I ordered a new battery. Yeah I got a little drunk lol.
It worked!! I thought my mytouch was broke, but all it needed was a battery. I'm so relieved!!

My phone has started acting weird lately and im not sure why, it could just be a bad battery but im not sure until i put another one in it tomorrow. Ive been using myns 2.2 for a few weeks, and cm6 for a long time.
Myns has been setup the same way for weeks, no changes at all. Yesterday i woke up and my phone was dead, but before i went to sleep it had a little over 70% battery.
Its not my charger ives tried different usb cables, car charger, etc. The battery icon will change to charging but the % never goes up....
Any other ideas except a bad battery?
Could always do a nandroid backup, then do a wipe reinstall, just to see if its OS or app related. Then if no change was found in regards to battery drainage, you could go do a nandroid restore, if you found it was just a bad battery all along.

i did a backup and full wipe earlier when my phone still had about 30% battery. Still wont charge.
Turn your phone off, and plug it into a USB charger, see if it charges. If not, try plugging into a USB port on a laptop/desktop, while the phone's still off.
Just a shot in the dark here.

yeah ive tried to charge it every way possible lol. thanks for the suggestions though!
So your usb will power the phone enough to turn on? Can you do all adb type things like the USB is connecting right? It could always be the battery or bad contacts/solder on the phone part

Assuming you flashed new Rom correctly, you can start to look at battery and hardware.
Id start wig battery, maybe sprint store has one laying around they could pop in ling enough to observe its behavior. Maybe buy heap battery from ebay.
I m not the authority on anything but I would flash back to stock and ask Sprint store to help you out. If you walk in with custom Rom they may flag you. I find it hard to believe you have a bad battery already, but I have seen stranger things.
How long does it take to charge? And precisely how long it last? An hour? 30mins?
Oh my bad, I see its not charging at all. Could be bad cable. Bad thing is, if they find that he usb port is damaged they may not warranty that. But who knows.

ok well its been solved. narrowed it down to the usb port. sprint guy agreed and ill have a replacement on wednesday!
have you checked this out

i would give that a shot if you can even get it to come on long enough or a way to get your battery to charge.
I'm having the problem your describing.

I'm having the problem your describing. Do you know how to fix it? I've seen a couple of threads One said to flash the radio, but no one provides any links as to how to do it. I could really use some help.
Thanks,

My evo was getting low on battery and I plugged it in. I went to check on it a half hour later and it wasn't charging. I plugged it into my computer and used multiple charging cords and it still won't charge. The battery is dead now. What can I do now? I am rooted and am scared to take it in.

Just to be clear, did the phone die completely before you tried to start charging it? Or did you plug it in before it actually died, and then it still wouldn't charge, and died anyways?
If it died completely on it's own, and then you plugged it in, and it won't take a charge (no led charging light), then your battery is most likely toasted. You can try leaving it plugged into the wall charger for some time, and see if it starts charging again, but it may not. Lithium Ion batteries don't like to be drained completely. They can get so low, to a point that the battery won't recieve a charge. It has something to do with the software in the phone not letting it. I've heard that if you have an actual wall charger, to put the battery directly on that, and it may charge up again. Otherwise, you need a new battery, most likely.
If you plugged it in before it actually died, and it still wouldn't recieve a charge, I would have to take a guess and say that there might be a problem with your usb/charge port (because you did say you tried other cables already, right?, so that should rule out a bad cable)
If you have any other batteries, try one. Or if you do happen to have a direct wall charger, put the battery on that and try to charge it up.
What rom/kernel combo are you currently on?
The battery was at about 24% when I plugged it in. I plugged in and the led didn't come on. It's been on the charger for about an hr. I tried a bb charger no luck and also plugged it into my computer.
I was running CM7 RC4 with savage zen 1.0.1 cfs havs sbc at the time. I got scared that i would have to take it in when the battery was getting low so I tried to flash the pcj136 zip on my sd card but it was corrupted (good time to find outit was corrupted) but after that I flashed back to my stock rooted backup. That's what it's on now. The led still didn't come on.

Okay, so you were able to successfully get the stock rooted rom flashed before the battery died? So you were running the stock rooted rom before it actually died? Still no charging on the stock rooted rom eh? Personally, i would find a way to get your battery charged up. Either take it to a sprint store, or if you have any friends that have a hero or an evo, pop it in there and charge it up. Once you're charged up, you can then have some time to unroot and turn S on if you need to, so you can take it in. It would also allow you test a couple more things, and be sure that it's not software related. (sounds like a bad usb/charge port to me) There isn't a lot you can do without being able to turn it on.
And you meant to say you tried to flash a PC36IMG, right?
Haha yes PC36IMG
Yes now I am running the stock rooted rom. As soon as I flashed the stock rooted rom it died.
My friend has a evo so I think I'll try to use my friends battery to see if it will work. To me it seems like a bad USB port but I'll try the battery. Hopefully it will work.

Yea, as I stated above, I also believe it's a bad usb/charging port. I just think you should use your friends evo to charge your battery, so you can then put your fully charged battery back in your phone, and unroot it if you need to take it in. Just beware, that if it is a bad usb/charge port, I have heard of Sprint giving people a tough time with repairing it (its a known problem). Sprint claims it to be cosmetic damage or physical damage or some bs like that.
I thought this issue would be fixed already. I got my evo in Dec and it's hw 0004.Cosmetic damage? Wow. How is it cosmetic damage when you can't use your phone? If I do have to take it in will sprint fix my evo? I have insurance through best buy.

I have seen people reporting here on XDA, that Sprint refused to fix the problem, and insisted upon either sending it to HTC or using your insuarnce. I'll see if i can find the thread for ya to look at, it wasn't too longg ago.
Cool, thanks

I've seen more on the subject kicking around here, but the dang search is currently down. I got lucky by finding that one on page 7!
This happened to me as well. I was using my EVO (rooted to Warm ROM) as a GPS today driving down to NYC. The battery wasn't completely dead yet and I was using a car charger to the phone. All of a sudden, the phone just reset! I had no clue why. I used my brother's EVO for GPS and after a little while, his started to reset as well! After I got home my phone wouldn't charge with the wall charger USB so I used my cradle charger to directly charge the battery, which worked and now my phone is on and the usb wall charger works again.

My phone ran completely dead earlier this evening and now I've run into a roadblock. I plugged it in to charge, and nothing. I thought my USB cord may have went bad on me so I tried another, no dice. I thought the charger might be bad so I tried a different one....nope. Needless to say I'm a bit worried my phone is bricked or something. I tried to power it into the recovery, but it is bone dead. I haven't flashed anything in a few weeks and this is a result of the battery simply dying.
I am leaving the battery out over night, hopefully solving the issue. What might be going on here? Could the battery be screwed?
When the battery dies completely, sometimes it won't charge or do anything for a while. This usually freaks people out, but by the next day it'll charge. Just leave it out, put it back in & try again. If that doesn't work, do it again. It might take a couple tries but it should eventually charge. I've never heard of it bricking a phone, though.
The only other possibility might be that the battery is fried. You can get replacement batteries pretty cheap on ebay.

Yeah I am hoping this is the case. The battery has never acted this particular way though. I'll leave it out overnight and check back in the morning.
Appreciate the response. Ease my mind a little haha.

You're battery is most likely toasted. Sometimes, as plainjane said, you'll get lucky and if you leave it plugged in long enough, it MAY start to charge. That's usually not the case though, and you'll probably need a new battery. LiPo batteries do not like to die completely, and when they do, it's possible (and likely) that it won't recieve a charge anymore. Sometimes you can get the battery to start charging again by using a direct wall charger, that your actual battery slides into on the wall (not in your phone). It has to do with the voltage of the battery dropping so low, that the software in the evo won't allow it to charge, for whatever reason. Just make sure that when you're trying to charge it, that it's plugged into the wall and not USB on your computer.

Yup, that seems to be somewhat of a common issue with certain Evo's. I always make sure to be extra easy on the USB cable, due to the Evo supposedly having weak solder joints where the USB connector attatches to the motherboard. But, if he said that he knows the battery died completely to 0, and then after that it won't turn back on, my money's on a failed battery.
ive had my batt since the phone came out no issues at all but ive seen the solder mess up peoples phone up alot with no charging, no usb connection and all that fun stuff just do what my brother did recall. all the older hardware do it eventually
Your battery is not fried.
If you're rather impatient, just drop it by a Sprint repair location and have them boost it on their cadex machine real fast. It'll trickle charge enough to turn the device on, then you can charge from there.
Well I left it out over night and all is well. I think I will pick up a new battery on ebay just in case. Meanwhile ill try to keep my battery from completely dying again haha. Thanks all.

Ive been using a cheap car charger that stopped working, my friend hacked it to make it work but in doing so bypassed the resistors and stuff so it was hardwired and i hooked up my evo not realizing that he by passed the resistors so after i plugged my evo to charge it didnt work. It turned off and it wont turn back on, no matter what i did. I tried different batteries, i tried pulling the battery in an out, i tried holding the button down with it on and off. NOTHING WORKS im not sure if there is a fuse in the evo ? lol or something of that sort or im sure its done. Any help would be greatly apreciated it as i dont have insurance and would have to pay full price for another one. Thanks guys, and dont tell me i already know im stupid for doing the charge thingy lol
resistors are there for a reason, but all you can do is take it to the sprint store and tell them it doesn't turn on and if they ask tell them you were charging and watching a movie and it turned off. they will only charge you $35 as long everything seems physically fine. My usb port failed on me and i don't have insurance, only charged me $35.
My phone isn't responding no matter what I do. I've tried a jig and every combination you could possibly think of to turn it on and nothing works. I didn't flash anything or drop it in any way so I am just wondering what could have happened? I had to get rushed to the hospital and I was there for a little over a week. My phone was left in my pants in my room and there it sat the whole time that I was in recovery.
Might be a battery gone bad friend. Your phone is definitely not bricked... But we must find a solution to the problem. Is it charging?
No that's the thing that has me confused. I figured it might be the battery cause I did leave it on and it obviously it had run out of power. I tried taking the battery out with just a usb cord in and nothing.
Usually they do a 2x short vibrate with the battery out. I had my D710 flake on me after overcharging once and come back after a week and a fresh battery. Replace the battery, then test. If no go, try to vet the new battery to ensure its a gold one and pack your phone in a rice bag for a week and repeat.
It would be very surprising if its truly bricked. If all else FSA and testing has been thorough, wrote a detailed letter to Sammy regardless of warranty status and see if they will back it. If you get rejectee call and don't mention prior attempt at begging. If you are well spoken and have thoroughly ensured its just a random failure you might be pleasantly surprised by their willingness to investigate.

I'll go get a new battery now and see if that works, thanks for the reply. Also it didnt get wet or anything. I took my pants off in my room and there it sat in my pocket till I got back.
Also if it were the battery wouldn't it still at least show that splash screen when you attach a usb cable?
What also helps is charging the phone on an apple charger. But charge it 3 days.
Apple charger: it will not load with full power.
I assume that the battery is below 2V.
And then nothing is displayed.
So it wasn't bricked it just had some water damage I guess. Thanks for all the help everyone
