[Q] htc Evo 4g wont turn on - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been using a cheap car charger that stopped working, my friend hacked it to make it work but in doing so bypassed the resistors and stuff so it was hardwired and i hooked up my evo not realizing that he by passed the resistors so after i plugged my evo to charge it didnt work. It turned off and it wont turn back on, no matter what i did. I tried different batteries, i tried pulling the battery in an out, i tried holding the button down with it on and off. NOTHING WORKS im not sure if there is a fuse in the evo ? lol or something of that sort or im sure its done. Any help would be greatly apreciated it as i dont have insurance and would have to pay full price for another one. Thanks guys, and dont tell me i already know im stupid for doing the charge thingy lol

resistors are there for a reason, but all you can do is take it to the sprint store and tell them it doesn't turn on and if they ask tell them you were charging and watching a movie and it turned off. they will only charge you $35 as long everything seems physically fine. My usb port failed on me and i don't have insurance, only charged me $35.

Charging issue

Well I was using my Evo just about 30 mins ago and the battery was low so after a couple of minutes it died. I tried turning it back on just to see if it was really completely dead and well it turned on got to the homescreen and it shut off again. At this point I go grab my charger and intend to charge the phone and the darn thing wont charge, at least thats what it seems like to me. Is the led charging light suppose to come on when the battery is dead and charging? Theres nothing going on right now its just there supposedly charging. I tried turning it back on and nothing happens, I removed the battery and put it back tried turning it on again and nothing. I also tried charging it while connected to a pc and it would detect my evo but all that would popup was that "qualcomm cdma technologies driver" could not be found. Im starting to worry because I haven't had any issues at all with my Evo. I was doing nothing really to cause it to brick not that I'm saying it is, I hope not. just browsing the internet while the phone was on and it died. My phone would charge just fine while it was on and never had an issue with the battery. I was running Cm6 10/7 nightly I believe with KingKernel #2. So is it suppose to take a while for the led to come on? is it suppose to be on? Is my phone dead? Help will be appreciated.
with it plugged into the wall charger or the pc turn the phone on and let it charge with the phone on.
letting these batteries run completely dry until your phone is dead and shuts off is B A D you can and will kill the battery.
i hope you didnt kill the battery.... but.. if you have a nbatteries plus near you you can go buy one cheaper than thru sprint. and have your phone running today. it might not say its a battery for the EVO but it uses the same battery as countless other HTC phones.,
you can also try walmart, best buy, and any place that sells or carries htc phones and accessories.

The thing is my phone wont even turn on or at least give me a sign that its charging its just sitting there connected to the charger but no led light. Does that mean theres something wrong with my phone or the battery? My pc still detects my phone but doesn't charge it. This is the very first time I actually let the battery completely die. Either way I'm going to try getting a new battery hopefully it helps.

so with the phone off, or what appears to be off, your pc still sees something connected... that isnt right, that sounds like the phone is hibernating or in a sleep mode.
so... what happens if you hold Vol Down, and then hold Power...
does it turn on to the fastboot/recovery menu ?
i guess you could try pulling the batter and just plug in the usb cable and try turning on the phone.
technically it should run without the battery (like a laptop will if you plug it into AC power) but i do not know. it probably wont turn on at all.
i would say take your bad batteyr with you and see if someone like Batteries Plus can test it, or Radio Shack.
all else fails, you buy a new one and hope it isnt the phone thats bad.
you can always take it to the sprint store. they wont screw with it, just tell them to see if their battery will make it turn on properly.

Please help me tell Sprint what the problem is with my phone

I have the EVO version 003 and it seems to run just fine save for one problem that the Sprint stores have been quick to dismiss. I have a Seidio car dock and at first it appeared that I might have a bad dock as it did not charge the phone. The phone recognized the dock and went into car mode, but did not charge. When I brought it into the Sprint store last night they tested it with another evo which did charge. So the problem is obviously with the evo. But where? I've run it stock and rooted with a variety of kernels (no SBC). It charges fine through AC and I think it's fine with USB (how can I be certain?)
Help.
Does it charge when plugged into a PC via USB?
Yes. I don't know how quickly it is supposed to charge but it does charge
this issue has been seen with several kernals. so the problem is probably your fault for flashing what ever kernal you are on. flash stock unmodified kernal and try again.
Can you tell me what the issue is? I did all I could to search for the problem before posting but didn't even know what the jump off point was. I've run the phone completely stock with no positive result.

Have you flashed the original HTC Stock#15 kernel to the phone?
I've unrooted the phone and returned it to factory stock so if I'm not mistaken, it should be running #15.
how do you know it aint the dock???? how did you eliminate it as the issue????
the EVO and many new phones... have safe gaurds for protection when charging....
have you plugged another EVO into that doc? see if it charges???

They eliminated the issue when the Sprint Store got another Evo to charge on it. The battery stops charging but it still registers the cable being plugged in (by a green light in the upper left hand corner).
Read, sir, it's FTW.
I have no idea what the problem could be, but what I'd do is find someone with a set-up that does work (kernel/rom) with 0003 hardware and the dock and mimic their set up to see if that works.
Best of luck.
Slight update - the phone will not charge above 84% on usb. It's been lingering there for about 2 hours.

i stand corrected... read it twice.. but I completely miss-read it.
now that my afternoon coma is over.. I see it now.
well i dont see why sprint can deny this repair.. if a new evo was charging in front of this face.. and yours will not. and you had returned it to stock before you took it in.
I would ask to talk to his manager...
and state that if he did not do what is right.. you will send Dan H. a letter and give store location, manger name, and tech name.
The problem is that they plug the phone into the AC charger and if it charges then they assume it to be alright. USB charging (and in turn, the dock charging) is a longer issue that they are not equipped to, or do not want to, repair. That's why I'm stuck. How can I tell them there is a charging issue if it is an issue that takes hours to repair?
Resolved. Charge port was dirty. Cleaned at Sprint and all is well.

[q] ={ about to give up!

my husbands htc evo4g isnt turning on. it wont even charge. i got him two batteries so far (they arent cheap) and the same thing keeps happening. the last thing i saw it say was something about the battery current. i take his battery out and put it in mine and it charges and everything perfectly. i dont know what to do! this one isnt rooted but i am really hoping someone can help me.
what can i do???
Leave it unplugged and battery out for about 5 minutes, then place the battery in and try charging it with a wall charger, and see if ti starts up. It may take it a minute or two to get a turn on voltage though.
It could also be the micro usb on the phone itself. They are a bit fragile and even a slight amount of torque can break a connection. If it's not rooted, just take it in to Sprint and have them check it out. I'm not sure if they can repair that in store though.

none of these worked and it simply wont even turn on when it did turn off it was fully charged.
Take it to Sprint, get a replacement

Kindle won't charge and is dead. Please help!!!

Hello all, my wife's kindle fire will not charge. I have tried using AC and USB power, but no luck. I have an older version of FireFireFire, so it did not charge correctly when it was almost dead. Do you have nay suggestions? I tried plugging it into a USB port and leaving it there for about an hour, but it will not turn on. If it does, it only stays on for like 2 seconds. Please help!
Does the Charging port seem loose? Mine was loose and. Just told amazon and they sent me a neone
I tried that but now it won't even boot up. Is it possible this thing is bricked?
Are you using the stock AC charger? My cheapie Micro-b from eBay broke within a month. At first I thought it was something wrong with the kindle, but switching back to the stock charger fixed all my problems.
Yeah we tried the stock charger too...

Possibly some good news
So I have absolutely no experience whatsover with rooting anything, or any of that shennanigans, but I have just had the same problem, and here is what I did.
-Took it to an electronics shop. Apparently they often have loose connections, so tried to get that fixed up, they did that and it didn't work, so now they think it's the battery. This would have cost me $120 if it did work, which is more than i paid for the kindle second hand, but i didn't care bc I was going overseas in four days and I just wanted it to work.
-Called Amazon. If it's still within the warranty period then this is fine. They will just send you a new one, then you have 30 days to mail back the old one. If it's not under the warranty period, it will cost you $100 for the same deal. They replace it with a new model even if you have the old one which is nice, and they don't really look at them when they get them, so it shouldn't matter if it's been rooted/opened etc. The only thing is that you have to have actually registered the kindle with amazon at some point, which was a problem bc I bought mine already rooted. Also they only send to the US. Also a problem for me....
I realise that this may not have been the type of help you are looking for, but it's all I got.
I was thinking about removing the battery and charging it some other way but I'm not sure what to do right now. It sucks to have a paperweight

Trying to force charge by inserting wire will only damage the primary cell because it then becomes the resister without normal constraints you may be able to charge it to 47% or so but the damage to the primary cell will require that the battery is replaced. Search google batteries are not that expensive somewhere in the 50$ range. As far as replacing them it`s just a matter of carefully removing the back cover disconnecting and unsticking the old one and installing the new.

Xperia play doesnt work

I have a R800x Xperia play and it doesnt work no more.
Before whenever the battery would die out all the way to 0% and turn off automatically, it would take like 5 minutes of charging before it can reboot.(I would never let it go to zero but i let people use it and everytime they let it drain all the way and it bugs the sh*t! out of me, that cant even ask me for a charger!!)
anyways this last time it took over an hour of charging (with led indicator on) to be able to boot up. and before that i had left the charger on overnight and the led never turned on and i wasnt able to turn it on. And when it did start working it itwas out of nowhere after plugging it in multiple times.
This last time it was on yellow battery and i fell asleep using it so when i woke up it was drained all the way. (also i found it on the ground so it fell from my bed, but the screen is not cracked so idk if this has anything to do with the problem). I put the phone to charge and after like an hour nothing happened. 3, 4, 5 hours and same thing. i left it all night and still nothing no led no vibration! i bought a new battery thinking i might have messed up the old one letting it drain all the way (the extended battery for a r800i, dont know if that will affect it) and put it in, and nothing still. tried charging and still no led light.
i think that mayb the miniusb port is messed up and both my batteries are drained all the way! even the new one because this is an old device and they probably manufactured the battery a long time ago.
i have taken the phone apart and see nothing wrong, except for the flex cable looks a little damaged, i will upload a pic asap
So any suggestions on how to fix it myself?
thank you for any help!

You can find on youtube videos of how to dissamble the Xplay.
Anyway if it's the miniusb port broken, why doesn't the phone boot up ?

the battery was completely drained. n ithink the xperia play is one of those devices where it has to be ON to charge. now it charges through the port. i have let it die again, and it wont charge no more through the port. if i use the battery seat charger and as long as it has a lil bit of charge, it'll charge thru the port. but connecting the xperia with the pc, the xperia isnt recognized. so the usb port IS messed up, it'll charge but wont sync
