Is der any option in ICS to disable 4G/3G networks to only use GSM/EDGE?

No, it wasn't on AT&T ROM. As the leaked one is another AT&T ROM, they keep this option disabled/hidden.
I wonder why does Rogers show this and not AT&T.

Yet switching 3G off would be fine.
Is there a way to do this in AT&T-based roms, despite the block?

I've been looking around the forums. There's some talk AT&T has this baked into the modem. (But for some reason cyanogenmod ignores the restriction). Flashing the old Rogers modem may solve this. Porting the modem/radio from a phone with the same chipset could also solve it. Incidentally, does anyone know what modem chipset is in the phone?
On another AT&T android I have (Motorola Flipside) you could switch to 2G only by dialing *#*#4636#*#*, but that doesn't pull up the menu on my Glide. This app should pull up the same page, but I'm not able to test right now, try it and let me know.

That app appears to work but it automatically resets to auto a second later.
I need a guinea pig I tried to flash to Gingerbread modem to ICS and discovered something quite odd... The ICS modem partition is too small to fit ;p I need someone on Rogers stock 2.3.5 (with root) to execute the following commands from adb in clockworkmod after mounting system and sdcard
fdisk -l /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
fdisk -l /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblock0p1 of=/sdcard/mmcblock0p1.bin
Tell me what it says your partition sizes are for mmcblk0p1 and 2, and upload the bin file somewhere
Flashed the old rogers modem.bin to /dev/block/mmcblk0p7 and my overall system seems snappier and my 4G and wifi speeds seem to have doubled. Still no network settings option though, and the network app still changes back after making a change to GSM only

I wonder why is it so convenient to AT&T to block the switch. I can easily understand why they block tethering, but switching from 2G to 3G/4G and back.. i can't see why.
I did notice I had better wifi with my old Rogers 2.3.5....wonder why.

With the new roms coming out I wanted to see if people have been able to test the gsm/world band functions. I'll be leaving the country in august and want to know if i will have to flash back to stock or if roms are working with gsm/world bands reliably now.
RMK's ROM seems to be working fine for me here in Afghanistan. I successfully called myself from my Nexus S with my AWCC card in, but for some reason calling VM failed. I think that may have been the roaming network though. I will try again today.

It seems that any of the carrier based MOD's work, but the question is does CM7 work? I loved CM7 but went back to the rooted GB RUU to ensure GSM functionality. I am not confident with CM7 nor do I know how to input APN's to get GSM functionality.

APNs are only for GSM Data - calls and text should work without it.
In the sense rom APNS can be accessed by first going to settings-call and making sure you have gsm/umts enabled.
Then settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - GSM/UMTS options
I assume it's similar in CM7 but I heard only the nightlies have GSM support and haven't heard anything about how well it works.
I should probably just nandroid and try one today - can't decide between Sense and AOSP anyway

I am running the same one, but I love CM7. I am awaiting a full understanding of GSM functionality and how to use it in CM7.
i tried CM7 nightly 31 and 32 and both doesn't have GSM working out of the box, but the rom itself was pretty impressive.
i opted for the "Incredible 2 Gingerbread Sense/less INCREDIBLY Debloated 8/6/11" by truelefty and chose the Senseless rom. GSM works out of the box, you just need to change out of global mode and instead into GSM ONLY (and UMTS if you have it in your area).
here's the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169991
also, i am using mobifone in Vietnam
i also read that miui can support gsm as well, so i'll try that later this evening. if someone has beat me to the punch, pls lmk
OMFGB and MIUI support GSM.
I think you might have to enter some apns and stuff manually buy that's just cause world mode is a recent feature. I tried MIUI last week and couldn't get it to work. I don't have a sim so I can't try this week.
OMFGB is sick... it is my favorite rom. Of course, if I could change the color of my battery line in MIUI... that would be my number 1.

I just loaded FC19 (tried CM9, but my phone would randomly not ring when plp called)
Does anyone have the Easysmart.apk file or know how to get it without re flashing FC09 first?
Also, if i just drop it in system/app reboot will it be good to go?
finally is there any reason I should not install it?
Thanks
It just turns on wifi periodically to check if you are in a known network if I understand it correctly. Also sends ciq-like data .

Do you know if the apk has been posted anywhere?
It will automatically switch you to the best connection whether it be 4G, 3G or wifi and it will map those spots with GPS so it will connect faster next time you are in the same area. It scans for wifi less often so to conserve battery versus normal wifi scanning.

You can pull it out of any FC09 ROM. It is called easysmart.apk and it won't work with other firmware versions without other supporting files. If on FC09 and don't want to use it simply turn it off. Settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>automatic connections. It is NOT CIQ.

Thanks Kenny,
So i noticed that you said that you must be on FC09, does that meant that easysmart.apk will not work on FC19 without additional work?
I am confused FC19 is a modem not a ROM. Why wouldn't the network app work if you are on a different modem?
I found this in another thread: (cherry picked the relevant parts)
2. Its in system/app in fc09... easysmart.apk
3. Yes push to system/app then reboot and enjoy...
Oops, I flashed FC 19 modem, pushed the FC09 easysmart app, rebooted, and see that the app is not visible in the settings area where it ought to be... bet it has something to do with that lib thing you were talking about...what do you think?
Should I just remove the file? I kind of liked the app, worked good for me....??
iceman19631
You could also try pushing serviceModeApp.apk from FC09 to system/app of FC19. That may help.
Tried it too...the option to "run" the optimizer is no where to be found...sigh...
Yep I'm sure there are some files somewhere that it requires that are missing on fc19..
why not just stick with FC09 modem that is the last offical release there were some problems reported with FC19 that is why it was never released.
done
In order to make it work on FC19 ROM you would need the phone.apk from FC09 ROM at a minimum with thanks to samep for figuring that out.

No.
It sees them, but won't try to automatically connect to anything that doesn't have a saved password.
I use it and like it, other than not being able to customize it. I'm on Boost and it will switch to 4g (which I don't have) and I lose my data. Would be nice to have the option to "lock out" certain radios completely.
If you stay on top of manually switching between wifi and network data then it may not gain you much battery life (if any). But if you are like me, having it switch automatically so it's one less thing to remember will save you a fair bit of battery life.

Maybe there is another solution to activate 3G?

I have been trying to find out the solution for more than two week but cannot find the solution. I got this strange problem in my phone, When I put my phone idle I get the full lte signal but however when i try to call someone all my signal get disappear but the strange thing is i can still talk to that person without the signal. As soon as i hang up my phone i would get all my signal back, when i get my signal back i can do normal browsing, watch video etc. I mean its no major issue, I was just wondering whether if there is any solution to get any signal bar back.

More device details please friend. What baseband are you on? NB4? If not, then you need to be on NB4 modem. If so, then it's possibly a kernel related issue I suggest flashing the latest build of Ktoonez kernel for AOSP, be sure to flash the right one for your phone. Example, don't flash the TouchWiz version

Sounds like it's working as it should! LTE cannot process phone calls so the device switches to 4g or edge depending on your area's reception. after the call is terminated, there is a very short delay, and you're reconnected to LTE (if there is reception for lte where you're at)
The device (depending on your settings) will try LTE, then 4G, then last resort to Edge when it's not on a call and just idling. It will connect when your device wants to access the internet or whatever, and selects the proper frequency (or mode) and use that for the connection..
check Settings/More Networks/Moble networks------ then under Network mode, you will see the connection choice.
if you tap on the network mode, it will give you different connection choices.
If you want LTE, you have only one choice and it downgrades itself as required as explained above.
you can save battery power by going to a lower frequency (like GSM only - which is edge Edge)
hope this helps you understand!
Aloha!

If you properly unzipped it and placed it in the phone slot of your odin program, you should be fine. Most people fail with either unzipping or placing it into the correct slot which in this case is the phone slot and not the PDA that you would use for a lot of other functions.

The link takes you to the OP but the ROM is in a comment on the second page. Also the dev states that this is an alpha, should we be linking to it here?
Also he says it's for geehrc. That's not gee. Gee is geehrc and geespr. Geehrc is strictly international. It might work on the ls970 but probably not. I'm going to try and mess with it anyway. But just realize what you are getting into before messing around. Might erase efs. If you're smart you have a backup everywhere.
I just want people to be aware of development going on in the international forums. See also discussion at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2807660, people are running this on LS970 though I myself have not yet flashed it
I don't want to link to that specific post because that is only release 2, he is already up to release 9. Obviously proceed with caution.
It's actually working. I'm using it right now on sprint to reply. It took a long time to boot. And once it does when you get past all the attempted update force closes you have to change mobile networks to 3g or it will APPEAR as though your efs is gone. Once you change to 3g (or possibly LTE, I don't know because I have no access) it will connect to sprint. I made a call but haven't tried data or texts yet. I just wanted to post results. It runs smooth and looks great.
EDIT:
Seems no matter what I tried, data would not connect. It also would not "stay" on 3G, it kept reverting to global. It did however keep my settings.
Keep in mind that was release 2. I did not realize when I downloaded it that there was more releases but I decided to give it a shot anyway instead of jumping to the newest right away (since I already downloaded 400+MB).
this is exciting, we already nearly have android L...just another testament to how awesome our community is

This one is slightly different than any other stock ROM I have tried to make universal. They basically ported a stock rom to GEE. Everything is working, wifi, calls, texts. The only thing I can't figure out is 3G. If you have 4G it's worth testing. I have absolutely no way to check 4G. I know 3G won't connect and upon fresh boot you have to connect to some sort of network and there are an amazing amount of FC's for update service. I think it's because I can't connect to something. I am at work now and have no access to wifi to even get past the setup, so I cannot get to settings and change mobile networks to 3G. There is no skip option. You have to connect to something, if you choose skip for mobile network then you have to connect to wifi or it will not pass setup.
I strongly suggest everyone give it a shot since there is nothing special like the KK that you need to do. I was even able to flash it on MultiRom. It will flash from any recovery and does not wipe any partitions. The kernel it uses works (but might have something to do with the lack of network). I am not sure. It could be anything until it is narrowed down.
@engine95 There is even options to update profile and PRL, though they don't work right now (for me).
Have you tried messing with APNs to fix data? I am on stock rooted ZVC, and even so I had trouble with MMS over LTE/eHRPD until I manually added an APN. Plus it breaks again if I update profile.
@dopy25 that's interesting. There's an international 975 Rom I was messing with where mms works but nothing else. Lucky has everything but mms.
I picked up the G3 yesterday but I'm still looking at getting KK working for the gee.
I think the apns might work from the G3 or maybe even the KK G2. No root for the Sprint G3 yet so I can't pull them. The G3 has GSM built with it. Lets hope it'll work with KK and L.

I have not, but my next step is to use an apn config file that I have and try it again. The one I have never fails me. (I am at work and on borrowed time )
I did compare them and the only difference is that the one that comes with the rom has more lines and the information that is extra is some cdma Sprint lines and some lines for Cricket. I figured those would be more updated but I can see how they would get in the way.
EDIT: the APN file I had caused the same issues. I am going to try to get setup using wifi somewhere and look at the mobile settings on the releas 10 and find out if anything has changed. I hope the dev that made this port doesn't get turned off he's doing some great work.

G3 is GSM and CDMA capable? Is that one of the new things Sprint has going on? Someone at my work told me their new S5 (I think) has a sim card. I didn't believe him but hey if that's more than one person now I guess there's more to it.
The problem I have is that I get no mobile data network, so i do not know if MMS works or not. Texts, calls, and wifi work. I should have tried sending MMS last night when I was home and on wifi. Would the APNs be different? As in an update in network settings or something? I can DL a G2 rom and pull the apn file from it, or ask for it in one of their threads if you think it would make it any different. The one I have is from an optimus G rom and has always worked for 3/4G.
I have not had a chance to mess with lucky or any of the fixes you posted.

OK so I tested the release 10 and couldn't get too fat because of the nav bar glitching out and also the android keyboard crashes.

Try an earlier release. I had everything but mobile data working on release 2. I would suggest either trying that one if you have access to 4G or trying another one.
How does this work on a Sprint Optimus G LS970 only used on wifi? Does it at least connect to wifi?

It sure does connect to WiFi. Like a champ.
I ran it for a bit but had to switch because I wanted data when I left home haha.
Trying this for data

This gets me 3G through the Airave, have to wait till tomorrow to test LTE.
Each time you switch from WiFi to mobile data, you get a flurry of update FC's. If it also does that when switching towers it will probably not be usable for me at work.
Right now my home button has stopped working, and the swipe to pull down settings is also stuck somehow. Anyone seen this or have ideas how to fix?

The APN zip gets data working including LTE. My issues with the buttons and settings pulldown were fixed on a full wipe and reflash. Wiping system cache and dalvik only and reflashing was not enough. Looking good.

Are you able to get data at boot, or do you have to get through setup using wifi? I can't seem to get data at all, but since I am at work I have no access to wifi to get to the settings to change anything. It won't let me past data setup of some sort. No skip.
I just now wiped EVERYTHING (except internal sd) 3 times then installed the ROM, then flashed the sprint.zip, then wiped data, cache, dalvik. And it booted ok, but I still have no data at all. I press skip and it forces me to choose a wifi network. I even tried connecting to one that I knew needed an extra login just to pass the stupid setup and I still cannot.
YUM!
Looks so nice clean I'll be looking forward to flashing it all day at school tomorrow
Gsm to cdma port
Alot of new phones will be gsm/cdma. Sprint and tmobile are in works of merging companies and what better then to have a phone that runs on both?
As far as porting goes i know a guru who might be able to help with porting from Gsm to Cdma i have seen him do many roms @cj360 just might need some test subjects.
Always store backups of you imgs and efs on your cloud.
Just need some Devs on Board to do some brain storming. Here are a few to ask @spleef @engine95 @Shelnutt2
