Roms with GSM/World Functionality working - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

With the new roms coming out I wanted to see if people have been able to test the gsm/world band functions. I'll be leaving the country in august and want to know if i will have to flash back to stock or if roms are working with gsm/world bands reliably now.

RMK's ROM seems to be working fine for me here in Afghanistan. I successfully called myself from my Nexus S with my AWCC card in, but for some reason calling VM failed. I think that may have been the roaming network though. I will try again today.

Moved to proper forum.

I'm using the China ota and I have data and everything on softbank

It seems that any of the carrier based MOD's work, but the question is does CM7 work? I loved CM7 but went back to the rooted GB RUU to ensure GSM functionality. I am not confident with CM7 nor do I know how to input APN's to get GSM functionality.

APNs are only for GSM Data - calls and text should work without it.
In the sense rom APNS can be accessed by first going to settings-call and making sure you have gsm/umts enabled.
Then settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - GSM/UMTS options
I assume it's similar in CM7 but I heard only the nightlies have GSM support and haven't heard anything about how well it works.
I should probably just nandroid and try one today - can't decide between Sense and AOSP anyway

Thanks for the instructions. Where do you get the APN at? I need GSM data as well as calls, etc.

i use that RMK ginger ROM & my phone is unlocked. I have a Telefonica SIM card and found that it works just fine down in Mexico when making calls. There's no data associated with the SIM though so haven't tried that out.

I am running the same one, but I love CM7. I am awaiting a full understanding of GSM functionality and how to use it in CM7.

i tried CM7 nightly 31 and 32 and both doesn't have GSM working out of the box, but the rom itself was pretty impressive.
i opted for the "Incredible 2 Gingerbread Sense/less INCREDIBLY Debloated 8/6/11" by truelefty and chose the Senseless rom. GSM works out of the box, you just need to change out of global mode and instead into GSM ONLY (and UMTS if you have it in your area).
here's the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169991
also, i am using mobifone in Vietnam

i also read that miui can support gsm as well, so i'll try that later this evening. if someone has beat me to the punch, pls lmk

OMFGB and MIUI support GSM.
I think you might have to enter some apns and stuff manually buy that's just cause world mode is a recent feature. I tried MIUI last week and couldn't get it to work. I don't have a sim so I can't try this week.
OMFGB is sick... it is my favorite rom. Of course, if I could change the color of my battery line in MIUI... that would be my number 1.

thanks for the input. i didn't have any free time to try it out last night, but i did download the nightlies for miui and OMFGB and will be trying them out soon

Most of the roms listed as having gsm work with phone/sms but not data. I have tried most of them at one point or the other and I can only get data reliably with the china ota. I really was hoping to use the virtousy rom but it is cdma only

After messing with some of the apn settings I found I have been skipping an important step. I was selecting none instead of chap or pap. Once I selected that I got data. I am currently running lefty's senseless Rom with data. I am going back to the China ota to make a better titanium backup before completly switching to a new Rom, but fixing my problem opens new possibilities

I can and do use mms all the time. I am on softbank and I had to manually enter in the correct apn settings for the carrier and sim card being used.
I have been busy so I have not been able to test any new roms knowing the correct apn security settings. Maybe later today I can play with the released roms to compile a list of what works.

HTC Incredible 2 - CyanogenMod 7 ''No GSM Conectivity''!!!

First of all, I apologyze for my english, just want you to sit and read carefully..
I'm from Panama, and I just bought a HTC Incredible 2 from Verizon Wireless on eBay, it came unlocked for any gsm network.
I used it for a couple month on Movistar with a GSM chip, it wasn't able to conect on 3G network, only 2g but it's enough for me, beacuse I use WiFi conection everyday.
Today I decided to install a custom rom, I had some trouble installing the roms because I don't know much about that, It is already rooted by revolution tools
I tried miui once and cyanogenmod 7 Nightly, Kernel v2.6.35.14 its the current rom I'm using, but the phone it's unable to conecto or even find a GSM network!!!
It's on Global Mode (that's the option I always used before) and Data capability On, now I can't do anything without network!
I have typed *#*#4636#*#* and did the steps I found on another thread and nothing worked!
I really need your help! I read something about the 'RADIO', I'm not sure about that.
You need to find the apn settings for your provider and enter it in at your mobile settings. Not sure who your provider is so i dont know your apn settings, try google.
jics91, some ROM's don't support both gsm and cdma which is what Verizon wireless uses. One ROM that supports gsm and cdma is SkyRaider Zeus 1.3. You may want to give that a shot. Google it. It's a popular ROM that is very stable and it includes GSM.
You should be setting GSM / UMTS Mode in your settings. If you are able to make calls and just can't get data then you need to set your APN. Are you using Movistar? If so, Movistar uses the following information.
APN: internet.movistar.pa
Username: movistarpa
Password:moveistarpa
APN Type: default
The rest of the options leave default.

Cool. I am glad you got it to work. I am replying to you using movistar. Just landed in David, Chiriqui yesterday. Radios and kernels are for better battery life and signal. You probably don't need a better radio. But you should try a different kernel than the stock one. You will get better battery life and can have more control over it. But be careful, some kernels don't work well with certain roms. So do some research before loading it.

I'm trying to change over to att but can't find where to enter the unlock code in this rom. Did automatically unlock when I s-off'ed or will I have to go about it a different way? Thanks in advance.

so i reverted to stock rom, bought an unlock code from htcimeiunlock and put it in then flashed cm9 again. i put in my sim card from my att go phone but still can't use it. i changed the mobile network to gsm only but when i do that my signal drops completely so i have no way to test if it will work or not. is there something i'm missing or what? this is the first phone i've rooted and attempted to unlock so my knowledge is very little. did flashing back to cm9 affect the unlock or should i just try reverting again to enter the number a second time? sorry if i'm being noobing but i'd rather ask questions instead of just messing something up. thanks.

Did you confirm working AT&T Sim while in stock rom, after it was unlocked? Once unlocked for GSM, it's good for life, there's no need to re-enter the 8 digits code again when you flash or change to a different/custom ROM.
If you use (and, I personally used them both & highly recommended it) either Skyraider's Zeus v1.3 or Nit's Stock Sense 2.1/3.0 v5 rom (see my signature below) - both of them support GSM, and you will have working voice & SMS coverage, to use mobile/broadband data on GSM - you need a data plan/package/bundle from the provider - plus it needs to be provisioned & activated on the account/mobile # - and the proper APN settings (if not preloaded or auto-updated OTA)
To use AT&T sim on Aero's unofficial CM9 rom, you need to confirm/change/setup APN settings for AT&T and save it, power off the device & reboot - (it might disppeared but it should be loading/working) - then you will gain data functionality, along with voice & data. Speed will be Edge only at 2/2.5G and not 3G, AFAIW (ditto, same or similar for T-Mobile sim)

when you input the code while on stock did you get a confirmation that the phone was actually unlocked? when you lose signal completely do you have the back cover on? does the phone say there is no SIM detected? flashing different ROMs shouldn't affect your unlock status. i'm running AOKP on GSM with no problems...

Pandora shouldn't have any problems with Edge/2G speed on DI2, I use Tunein Radio just fine with Edge/GPRS when I last travel - it's backward compatible to Android 1.x when bandwidth was rather limited and slow then.
It always help to close and/or not run widgets in the background so that apps in the foreground can gain as much bandwidth as possible - turn off those news/weather, FB, Twitter and Live wallpaper, etc. - and you should be good.
If you will be using DI2 mostly in GSM mode with a Sim card, whether it's mostly over WiFi or not - Skyraider's Zeus v1.3 (GB rom with Sense 2.1/3.0 tweaks) would be my rom of choice - updated with .312 radio & #79 kernel, allowing for overclocking if desired (I leave mine stock, but done it at 1.2 Ghz) for unbelievable battery life on standby mode. Enjoy & have fun!

This has been discussed many times... I do appreciate the fact that you found a similar thread rather than just starting a new one. However, in the future, please search before posting.
To answer your question, no (that is, unless you feel confident that you can guess the code in no more than 3 tries...) You can get them pretty cheap online. Just do some searching around and make sure that the place you are buying from has good feedback before giving them your payment info.

Thanks for the reply. I actually did a search and found that info. I just wanted to make sure that I hadn't missed some info on a way to fully unlock without having to purchase the code by rooting.
Btw, I've read that an unlock code from VZW will allow international SIM cards only. What about a purchased unlock code from htcimeiunlock or a similar site? Will it allow T-Mobile or ATT SIMs?
Yep if you buy one from there you should be all set. From what I hear they are a good site to get one from too.

mobile network problem with (leak) 3.6 ICS

key issue: overseas mobile network carrier VS verizon...
I have tried at least 4 or 5 versions of ICS, still don't know how to get mobile data working, the newest version I tried was "(Rom)(Leak) 7.01.605.01 Verizon Vivow Ics Sense 3.6 *8.21.12" , just like AOKP and MIUI, everything else works fine (wifi, camera, video etc) except mobile data. And unlike CM 7.1 7.2 which has android 2.3.*, I can't even see the "APN" or "Preferred networks" option under Networks category.
So I googled a lot of different ways but nothing really worked. I have edited the "build.prop" file, "spns.xml" to edit the operator code from verizon to my own carrier, also tried using 3rd party software to autoset apn, normally these steps would succeed in CM7.* , but no luck in ICS....
Does anybody know how to solve the problem or experience the same here?
I think I read that, starting with ICS, 3rd party apps cannot modify APNs so that is probably part of why you are having trouble. Try downloading APN Settings Shortcut from the the Play Store. Its a widget that is just a shortcut to the APN settings on your phone. That might allow you to make the changes you need. Sorry I can't be of any more help. I have no experience using phones on other networks, I only know as much as I do because of having to fix APNs to get MMS working on certain roms.
did you flash the firmware (radio) update with that leak ROM? I have had no issues with 3g or WIFI on any other roms before the leak, and the issue with that one is easily overcome with a couple toggle flips. Just the noob's first thought.
Also...seems stupid to repeat, but....make sure the back cover is on, all the way.
yeah u right, unless 3 party apn tool has been added to part of the system, i finally got it to work after re-editing the 2 files above and a couple of reboots...

Hi FatBoy_Seconds,
I have a similar problem with my HOV, I am struggling to fix it with my current install, but previously I changed my APN settings. Settings>> Mobile Networks>>APN remember to save the settings before you go back, and to select them. You can get these off your carrier, however if you are running a newer version of Android than they distribute some of the settings may be different.
Here is a link to ones for JB with O2, its a HOX forum but the settings did work for my HOV

The link takes you to the OP but the ROM is in a comment on the second page. Also the dev states that this is an alpha, should we be linking to it here?
Also he says it's for geehrc. That's not gee. Gee is geehrc and geespr. Geehrc is strictly international. It might work on the ls970 but probably not. I'm going to try and mess with it anyway. But just realize what you are getting into before messing around. Might erase efs. If you're smart you have a backup everywhere.
I just want people to be aware of development going on in the international forums. See also discussion at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2807660, people are running this on LS970 though I myself have not yet flashed it
I don't want to link to that specific post because that is only release 2, he is already up to release 9. Obviously proceed with caution.
It's actually working. I'm using it right now on sprint to reply. It took a long time to boot. And once it does when you get past all the attempted update force closes you have to change mobile networks to 3g or it will APPEAR as though your efs is gone. Once you change to 3g (or possibly LTE, I don't know because I have no access) it will connect to sprint. I made a call but haven't tried data or texts yet. I just wanted to post results. It runs smooth and looks great.
EDIT:
Seems no matter what I tried, data would not connect. It also would not "stay" on 3G, it kept reverting to global. It did however keep my settings.
Keep in mind that was release 2. I did not realize when I downloaded it that there was more releases but I decided to give it a shot anyway instead of jumping to the newest right away (since I already downloaded 400+MB).
this is exciting, we already nearly have android L...just another testament to how awesome our community is

This one is slightly different than any other stock ROM I have tried to make universal. They basically ported a stock rom to GEE. Everything is working, wifi, calls, texts. The only thing I can't figure out is 3G. If you have 4G it's worth testing. I have absolutely no way to check 4G. I know 3G won't connect and upon fresh boot you have to connect to some sort of network and there are an amazing amount of FC's for update service. I think it's because I can't connect to something. I am at work now and have no access to wifi to even get past the setup, so I cannot get to settings and change mobile networks to 3G. There is no skip option. You have to connect to something, if you choose skip for mobile network then you have to connect to wifi or it will not pass setup.
I strongly suggest everyone give it a shot since there is nothing special like the KK that you need to do. I was even able to flash it on MultiRom. It will flash from any recovery and does not wipe any partitions. The kernel it uses works (but might have something to do with the lack of network). I am not sure. It could be anything until it is narrowed down.
@engine95 There is even options to update profile and PRL, though they don't work right now (for me).
Have you tried messing with APNs to fix data? I am on stock rooted ZVC, and even so I had trouble with MMS over LTE/eHRPD until I manually added an APN. Plus it breaks again if I update profile.
@dopy25 that's interesting. There's an international 975 Rom I was messing with where mms works but nothing else. Lucky has everything but mms.
I picked up the G3 yesterday but I'm still looking at getting KK working for the gee.
I think the apns might work from the G3 or maybe even the KK G2. No root for the Sprint G3 yet so I can't pull them. The G3 has GSM built with it. Lets hope it'll work with KK and L.

Have you tried messing with APNs to fix data? I am on stock rooted ZVC, and even so I had trouble with MMS over LTE/eHRPD until I manually added an APN. Plus it breaks again if I update profile.

I have not, but my next step is to use an apn config file that I have and try it again. The one I have never fails me. (I am at work and on borrowed time )
I did compare them and the only difference is that the one that comes with the rom has more lines and the information that is extra is some cdma Sprint lines and some lines for Cricket. I figured those would be more updated but I can see how they would get in the way.
EDIT: the APN file I had caused the same issues. I am going to try to get setup using wifi somewhere and look at the mobile settings on the releas 10 and find out if anything has changed. I hope the dev that made this port doesn't get turned off he's doing some great work.

G3 is GSM and CDMA capable? Is that one of the new things Sprint has going on? Someone at my work told me their new S5 (I think) has a sim card. I didn't believe him but hey if that's more than one person now I guess there's more to it.
The problem I have is that I get no mobile data network, so i do not know if MMS works or not. Texts, calls, and wifi work. I should have tried sending MMS last night when I was home and on wifi. Would the APNs be different? As in an update in network settings or something? I can DL a G2 rom and pull the apn file from it, or ask for it in one of their threads if you think it would make it any different. The one I have is from an optimus G rom and has always worked for 3/4G.
I have not had a chance to mess with lucky or any of the fixes you posted.

OK so I tested the release 10 and couldn't get too fat because of the nav bar glitching out and also the android keyboard crashes.

Try an earlier release. I had everything but mobile data working on release 2. I would suggest either trying that one if you have access to 4G or trying another one.
How does this work on a Sprint Optimus G LS970 only used on wifi? Does it at least connect to wifi?

It sure does connect to WiFi. Like a champ.
I ran it for a bit but had to switch because I wanted data when I left home haha.
Trying this for data

This gets me 3G through the Airave, have to wait till tomorrow to test LTE.
Each time you switch from WiFi to mobile data, you get a flurry of update FC's. If it also does that when switching towers it will probably not be usable for me at work.
Right now my home button has stopped working, and the swipe to pull down settings is also stuck somehow. Anyone seen this or have ideas how to fix?

The APN zip gets data working including LTE. My issues with the buttons and settings pulldown were fixed on a full wipe and reflash. Wiping system cache and dalvik only and reflashing was not enough. Looking good.

Are you able to get data at boot, or do you have to get through setup using wifi? I can't seem to get data at all, but since I am at work I have no access to wifi to get to the settings to change anything. It won't let me past data setup of some sort. No skip.
I just now wiped EVERYTHING (except internal sd) 3 times then installed the ROM, then flashed the sprint.zip, then wiped data, cache, dalvik. And it booted ok, but I still have no data at all. I press skip and it forces me to choose a wifi network. I even tried connecting to one that I knew needed an extra login just to pass the stupid setup and I still cannot.
YUM!
Looks so nice clean I'll be looking forward to flashing it all day at school tomorrow
Gsm to cdma port
Alot of new phones will be gsm/cdma. Sprint and tmobile are in works of merging companies and what better then to have a phone that runs on both?
As far as porting goes i know a guru who might be able to help with porting from Gsm to Cdma i have seen him do many roms @cj360 just might need some test subjects.
Always store backups of you imgs and efs on your cloud.
Just need some Devs on Board to do some brain storming. Here are a few to ask @spleef @engine95 @Shelnutt2
