I just loaded FC19 (tried CM9, but my phone would randomly not ring when plp called)
Does anyone have the Easysmart.apk file or know how to get it without re flashing FC09 first?
Also, if i just drop it in system/app reboot will it be good to go?
finally is there any reason I should not install it?
Thanks
It just turns on wifi periodically to check if you are in a known network if I understand it correctly. Also sends ciq-like data .

Do you know if the apk has been posted anywhere?
It will automatically switch you to the best connection whether it be 4G, 3G or wifi and it will map those spots with GPS so it will connect faster next time you are in the same area. It scans for wifi less often so to conserve battery versus normal wifi scanning.

You can pull it out of any FC09 ROM. It is called easysmart.apk and it won't work with other firmware versions without other supporting files. If on FC09 and don't want to use it simply turn it off. Settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>automatic connections. It is NOT CIQ.

Thanks Kenny,
So i noticed that you said that you must be on FC09, does that meant that easysmart.apk will not work on FC19 without additional work?
I am confused FC19 is a modem not a ROM. Why wouldn't the network app work if you are on a different modem?
I found this in another thread: (cherry picked the relevant parts)
2. Its in system/app in fc09... easysmart.apk
3. Yes push to system/app then reboot and enjoy...
Oops, I flashed FC 19 modem, pushed the FC09 easysmart app, rebooted, and see that the app is not visible in the settings area where it ought to be... bet it has something to do with that lib thing you were talking about...what do you think?
Should I just remove the file? I kind of liked the app, worked good for me....??
iceman19631
You could also try pushing serviceModeApp.apk from FC09 to system/app of FC19. That may help.
Tried it too...the option to "run" the optimizer is no where to be found...sigh...
Yep I'm sure there are some files somewhere that it requires that are missing on fc19..
why not just stick with FC09 modem that is the last offical release there were some problems reported with FC19 that is why it was never released.
done
In order to make it work on FC19 ROM you would need the phone.apk from FC09 ROM at a minimum with thanks to samep for figuring that out.
@Taz FC19 was a leaked ROM. Tar is in development.

OPS my bag thought it was just a modem that was leaked didn't realize there was ROM leak too. I should stay up on the dev section but ever since CM7 and 9 I don't bother. They seemed to of cured me of my flashaholic symptoms LOL

but most of the time you pick up wifi networks that are secure and you do not have password to.... so does it try to connect to those and waste battery?

No.
It sees them, but won't try to automatically connect to anything that doesn't have a saved password.
I use it and like it, other than not being able to customize it. I'm on Boost and it will switch to 4g (which I don't have) and I lose my data. Would be nice to have the option to "lock out" certain radios completely.
If you stay on top of manually switching between wifi and network data then it may not gain you much battery life (if any). But if you are like me, having it switch automatically so it's one less thing to remember will save you a fair bit of battery life.
can i have the APK?

Ever since eclair, I've been using the Roam Control app alot on my Epic. There are certain areas that I am in daily that just get spotty/no signal at all. I flash ROMs quite often, and one of the ROMs I flashed in the past killed the Roam Control app. I'm not sure if flashing Froyo was the reason, but I do know that it worked perfectly in the past with this phone.
When I press roam only, it doesn't do anything. It asks for SU permission but the signal bars stay the same. I don't lose signal all together or roam-- this app has no effect on me anymore.
What is the problem here? I am using the latest version of the app (1.5.4) and if it means anything, I'm on ACS' wonderful ROM- 1.1.1.
Does this happen to anyone else, and is there any way to fix it or any other way to force roam?
Thanks!
I had mine break before as it kept telling me to purchase it even though I had already. After numerous attempts of clicking roam, switching devices in settings and trying to connect, uninstalling and reinstalling, and reboots it randomly started working again. Sorry that's not much help but maybe one of those techniques will work for you I wish I knew what exactly fixed but I was doing everything that I don't remember what it finally was, sorry.
I now just use a verizon prl instead so I can get 3g and not just the 1x roam control only allows. Good luck. If I think of anything about exactly what I did I'll let u know.

I checked the auto reboot and when it eventually rebooted, it actually messed up my phone and I got a bunch of FC's
How do you use the Verizon PRL?
Roam control actually works much better for me now the I'm on the ee03 modem
Hmm...theres something wrong on my end then? I tried installing the Roam Control before anything else and it still doesn't work.
Are there any other apps that force roam?
i intsalled roam control and it did nothing. i set everything up and when i manually set it to roam it does nothing. i set it to auto and move to an area i know i get terrible signal and nothing. odd seeing as it has worked for so many.
In my house I get 1 bar on sprint towers, and when I turn on roam control I get 5 on verizons, Ive been using it since February and I believe twice it would kinda wig out and say no signal for about 10 mins or so no matter what I did, I believe it was some kind of auto update or perhaps just resetting itself? Anyways it always came back, the first time was like 10 mins the second was about 5 mins. I know that doesnt explain anything but Its what I have experianced using it. All in all a great app that I use all the time.
I am on the SFR 1.1.1 with EE03 modem and use Roam Control while at work all the time with no problems. I have had the license issue before, but a phone reboot and data connection fixed that.
I would recheck Superuser to see if Roam Control still had permission, also check mobile network settings set to Automatic, and then maybe fix permissions with CWM.
Disclaimer: I am not very developer savvy, so I do not know if these are a waster of time or not.

I wiped all my data and started from fresh, installing Roam Control, making sure that it had SU permission, and made sure that roaming was allowed in the mobile network settings. I went into CWM and fixed my permissions, but it's still the same
Edit: I also updated my PRL but no dough.

I am on my own version of SRF 1.1.0 called RandomRom linked in my signature. I baked in a lot of the mods that are now added into SRF 1.1.0. It uses Genocide to avoid freezing issues, and comes pre-journaled.
Using my Rom and EC05, roam control works great for me every day in my house. I know for a fact that RC can be a fickle app, so maybe give it a try?

In the development section they'd a section on how to manually update your prl. Its pretty good instructions. Just find the prl u want to use. I'm u do ng a 0001. I can't remember where I found it if its not in that thread. I'll look later.
Every few weeks I get rolled back to sprint prl but I just take the 2 to change back. If u need any thing else let me know.

Just be warned, 3G roaming on Verizon may venture into excessive roaming of your Sprint contract and get your account cancelled. No one has a completely clear answer on what excessive is.

I used roam control pretty much non stop for a couple months and have been on this prl for about another two months and no warnings or anything here. I'm in ms and we don't even have 3g where I'm at. The 0001 prl claims to trick your phone into showing sprint also . So that could be why.

If you are using a backup version of Roam Control then it will not work for some reason.. everytime I change to a diffrent ROM and try reinstalling my apps that I backed up.. Roam Control does the samething.. it wont change your signal.. it just does nothing..
this happens no matter how I restore it.. using Titanium Backup, APP Monster or MyBackup Pro.
Roam Control is the only app I have to reinstall from the Market for it to work properly.
Hope this helped!!
Just to be sure, everyone having problems with Roam Control is going into settings and choosing Samsung as their phone model...yeah?
I've had a few problems with roaming on the GB leak, but it's mostly just more of the same weirdness where I randomly have to reset the modem to get a data connection, and Android refuses to 'Never Ask Again', no matter what settings I check.
Otherwise, I've been roaming with Roam Control daily at work. Mind you, I'm not on any custom kernels.
/sometimes if I start Roam Control when I have absolutely no signal, it'll try to confirm my license, fail, and then get really really pissy until I close out of it, get data back, and run it again, at which point it behaves like I just installed it
//Roam Control is fantastic for when Gingerbread's data breaks, even when on Sprint, since you can just go in, tap Automatic, and it'll reset the modem for you without requiring a reboot

Is any one willing to look into and possibly fix the roaming problem with cm9.1 & the Nexus modems?
Hears the problem go into
System setting / Wireless & networks / More / Mobile networks / System select
Options are
Home only
Auto: Domestic Roaming
Auto International Roam
Auto: Domestic & Int'l
Auto: No Roaming
You cant pick any Option & NONE will stick. It always goes right back to "Home only"
Now i know that roaming works with Nexus Modems KL2 & LF2 on the Epic 4G with cm9.1 because i use Roam Control app v2.3.0 but this is really not a fix for auto roaming failing to switch over. Its just a work around.
I read some where that in cm10 the problem was in the settings.apk. Is this also the case for cm9.1? I witch i could fix it myself but i have no idea where to start or what to look for or even if the settings.apk is the right place to start?
I'm assuming its nothing to do with the kernel? If it does & some one makes a fix could you pleas make the kernel have voodoo sound & color. i am running the modded Shadow Kernel from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037 thread.

With all the talk about just etering the roaming menu messing it all up. I booted to cwm flash FC09 modem then booted FC09 KEXCE Rom & setting the roaming to auto & voice & data. Then booted up cwm flashed LF2 Nexus modem.
I'm going to do some things running around. But I can't think of a 100% roam place near by. I mean my phone will roam in some places but I guess I'll leave it like this over the weekend untill I see in auto roam.
Any one try what xboxj said? About trying the Nexus S 4G. Settings.apk & phone.apk

Ok, here is what I did:
1) Reboot to download mode
2) Odin FC09 modem
3) Boot to CWM, flash FC09 multiboot, reboot to stock FC09 (sdcard)
4) Set domestic roaming to automatic for voice & data (was already set)
5) Powered off.
6) Messed up and booted into CM9. Obviously I did not get cell coverage, but for grins, I looked at the setting. I could change it and it would stick. Set it to automatic domestic roaming.
7) Rebooted to CWM.
8) Flashed NS4G KL2 modem.
9) Rebooted to CM9, still on home only, setting doesn't stick anymore.
So, I am pretty sure I am back where I started.
On another note, where did you get a CWM flashable FC09 modem?
Edit: nevermind, I found the modem. Sorry for being a tard. I am going to try making the setting on CM9 stable, without the patch, then patch/install NS4G modem and see how it goes.
Thanks,
Bill

So far on the cm9.1 Nexus S 4G apks to Epic cm9.1 roaming setting are sticking, WiFI Tether AP works, sms seems to work, phone voice call works. idk have not teated much.
Hey Zman, can you offer a "noob" translation for these instructions please
Thank you for sharing these steps Z man. I have spent HOURS working on getting CM 9.1 to work on my Epic (SPH-D700), but roaming was/is not working. I attempted to follow your instructions, but lost my way at the "adding apk." portion. A few Google searches later, I got as far as trying to add the "Settings" and "Phone" apks. with ESFile Explorer, but it failed to replace the already existing files. Additionally, the "MD= [some numbers]", yeah, I have no idea what that means or what to do with that. Finally, the "http://d-h.st/XMo]NS4Gmodempatch-CM9.1_settings_phone.zip - 4.34 MB" appears to be a dead link. My phone is currently able to perform data tasks in 4G, but voice service is gone. I went from being unable to roam to being unable to talk to anyone.
Thank you in advance.
Desperate in DC,
I hope you can help soon.

It's a known bug to some. I had a thread about this issue I believe. It had left for a few builds and then reappeared to some on the FI25 build. At one point we narrowed it down to a certain routers but no real evidence. It doesn't matter what your settings are in, even if you keep your settings on "keep awake always". The WiFi just stays as if connected but really isn't. It'll show greyed out bars or not active. I gave up and ignore it.

What exactly should I be looking for in my router settings? Btw, wifi still disconnects on Parandroid JB...wtf. Everything worked fine on GB.
I still have the issue where wifi just sucks down my battery worse than 3G when it idles, but the phone gets plenty of deep sleep. It's happened across roms, fresh wipes and only on ICS and never on any gingerbread setups I've used. I've tried 3 different routers, on different frequencies. I've spent countless hours combing through battery and cpu monitors. My final verdict is that ICS was for the most part a total **** show for this phone, and it's only usable because of the selfless devs who devote their free time to tweaks and builds that get the best they can out of it.
Sorry op, but in my anecdotal example, there is no answer for particular wifi problems on ICS with this phone.

What channel and encryption type are you using (for your main connection)? Also what brands of routers have you tried it on. I don't think it is you, but I am just curious.
I use to use Linksys routers, but the last 2 I had were turds different models, and sent them in for RMA to verify the unit wasn't just a bad unit, now I won't use ANY Cisco product unless I have to (after the routers overheating in the middle of winter in my basement with proper ventilation and sending them back a few times, and their new 'secure' firmware that only allows you to connect via their website back into my local router).
lol don't listen to these people telling you to check the router settings...
It is a bug in ICS (most roms i have tried), i suggest downloading an app called Wi-fi keep alive.

i'll try that as my phone got this bug also.
I didn't happen in FH13 Stock rom, but when i upgrade to FI27 this bug is starting out!
weird thing is this bug only occured on my office wi-fi (Linksys WAP54G). No problem occured when I use wi-fi at my home.
I heard if you stand on your head while doing the macarena your wifi won't disconnect.

Ya the app seems to work, most of the time...Just make sure you launch it after a reboot? - Good enough for me though, also i have all the work arounds checked in advance settings, didn't have the patience to experiment.
***Be sure to install SuperSu from the play store before following these steps so that this app will have proper root access***
1) Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34037922
2) READ THREAD INFORMATION
3) Download:
WifiTether-TrevE_Mod_11_22_2012_driverReload2 (defaults to Wifi Driver Reload 2) - http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390208427046731813
4) Disable Sprint Connections manager through settings menu
*System settings /more settings /mobile networks*
5) If any previous versions of WiFi tether are installed, UNINSTALL
6) Install new modded .apk
7) Use the following settings:
- Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) for Device Profile
- Netd-Ndc (master) for Setup Method
- Check box for "Send Netd Max Client Cmd"
- Make Sure "WiFi-driver reload 2" is checked
- Check Keep Alive Connection
- Check "Routing fix"
8) Reboot!
That should do it for you.
Encryption settings work as well.
Let me know if this works for you

I haven't been able to get native 4g tethering to work since our ics days.. Something changed in jb and the wimax_service.jar file used from the og epic no longer works on our device (at least back in the day when I tried it). This I the best I've been able to do.

Also... Someone's please try not disabling the sprint connection manager.. See if this still works. May have effed myself.. Will revise op if someone tries and succeeds without following that step

Disregard. Must be disabled. I used titanium backup to freeze it. I am having a separate 3g issue with FK23. At least my 4g tethering works though... Lol

Thanks for this. I downloaded the modded app but couldn't get it working. I'll try your settings

You may have to restart after the initial setup for things to work. I had to do this the first time, but not when I re flashed and tried again.

It works, but definitely needs a reboot and encryption does not work. I uninstalled sprint connection optimizer with TB and that totally f'd me. Had to reflash...

I have encryption turned on right now. WPA2. Works perfectly. Also, the first time I simply froze Sprint Connection Manager. The 2nd time I just disabled it from within the app settings itself.
Works great for me when I follow the directions, thanks OP! Encryption is working for me also.
I was too busy to try this today but posted a link to your thread on Universe JB Rom thread. First user over there that tried it said it worked great. I froze Connection Optimizer with TB and now I'm glad I didn't uninstall it. Thanks again
Worked Great!!
I'm up and tethering again!!!!!
Thanks!!!!
I had this working for a bit, then had to reflash, and can't get it working again. Those of you that have it working, are you using superuser or supersu? One-click or the original tar leak?
ive tried three times to get this working i think the problem ive got is with the connection manager, can some one please explain how to disable it,i know this makes me sound stupid but an actual video would be cool too, any help would be appreciated, thank you8 i finallygot it working thank god jelly bean rocks and thanks for all the help, to disable connection manager i used tb 4,75 hopefully after i load apps it will work
I'm not on the leak anymore... But if I remember right...
Menu, settings, more (near the top under Wifi settings and such), connection manager, disable (uncheck box).
Again I only used fk23 for less than 24 hours so I don't remember the exact options.. Anyway, that would definitely be the reason why it's not working for you.

So I finally managed to get it working... I had to disable 4G or else my wifi devices would not see the SSID being broadcast by my phone. Once on 3G, my devices can now see the SSID broadcast and join the network. Interestingly enough, once the devices are successfully connected to the network, I can then enable 4G to use the additional bandwith.

That is a very odd scenario. Worked perfect for me..
Now that the devices can see your network and are connected to 4G can you turn the network off and on again and will they auto connect? Or do you need to revert to 3g every time? That would be a huge PITA

Yes, it seems I only have to connect while on 3G once, then I can freely start and stop the network on 4g.
LIFESAVER! I played with FK23 for about a day but couldn't deal with the lack of 4G hotspot. So I had gone back to FI27 with the hotspot mod 'til I could find something like this. Works like a charm! Actually, my up and down speeds have increased from the FI27 hack, oddly. Stable Jellybean with working 4g tethering? I'll take it!
FYI: I just selected the device model along with the rest of the settings provided in the OP and it worked fine.

Where is Sprint Connections Manager?
Hello Everyone,
I am running the Virgin Rom with Ktoonsez.
I have been trying to find out the solution for more than two week but cannot find the solution. I got this strange problem in my phone, When I put my phone idle I get the full lte signal but however when i try to call someone all my signal get disappear but the strange thing is i can still talk to that person without the signal. As soon as i hang up my phone i would get all my signal back, when i get my signal back i can do normal browsing, watch video etc. I mean its no major issue, I was just wondering whether if there is any solution to get any signal bar back.

More device details please friend. What baseband are you on? NB4? If not, then you need to be on NB4 modem. If so, then it's possibly a kernel related issue I suggest flashing the latest build of Ktoonez kernel for AOSP, be sure to flash the right one for your phone. Example, don't flash the TouchWiz version

For sure. I'm on C-Rom and I noticed the default apn settings were a little wacky. So after editing them, I'm running great with signal and of course free unlimited WiFi tether

Sounds like it's working as it should! LTE cannot process phone calls so the device switches to 4g or edge depending on your area's reception. after the call is terminated, there is a very short delay, and you're reconnected to LTE (if there is reception for lte where you're at)
The device (depending on your settings) will try LTE, then 4G, then last resort to Edge when it's not on a call and just idling. It will connect when your device wants to access the internet or whatever, and selects the proper frequency (or mode) and use that for the connection..
check Settings/More Networks/Moble networks------ then under Network mode, you will see the connection choice.
if you tap on the network mode, it will give you different connection choices.
If you want LTE, you have only one choice and it downgrades itself as required as explained above.
you can save battery power by going to a lower frequency (like GSM only - which is edge Edge)
hope this helps you understand!
Aloha!
I want to flash the NB4 modem since im having the conection and do know how to use odin, just curious how to flash the modem as a .rar, I thought it had to be a .tar. so I felt it would be better to ask first before I brick my phone. I used the download for "Insane kit kat" I even unzipped it to find it still in .rar format

How do I know what APN settings I should have?
Or if they are wacky?
Is there a guide?

If you properly unzipped it and placed it in the phone slot of your odin program, you should be fine. Most people fail with either unzipping or placing it into the correct slot which in this case is the phone slot and not the PDA that you would use for a lot of other functions.
