Is any one willing to look into and possibly fix the roaming problem with cm9.1 & the Nexus modems?
Hears the problem go into
System setting / Wireless & networks / More / Mobile networks / System select
Options are
Home only
Auto: Domestic Roaming
Auto International Roam
Auto: Domestic & Int'l
Auto: No Roaming
You cant pick any Option & NONE will stick. It always goes right back to "Home only"
Now i know that roaming works with Nexus Modems KL2 & LF2 on the Epic 4G with cm9.1 because i use Roam Control app v2.3.0 but this is really not a fix for auto roaming failing to switch over. Its just a work around.
I read some where that in cm10 the problem was in the settings.apk. Is this also the case for cm9.1? I witch i could fix it myself but i have no idea where to start or what to look for or even if the settings.apk is the right place to start?
I'm assuming its nothing to do with the kernel? If it does & some one makes a fix could you pleas make the kernel have voodoo sound & color. i am running the modded Shadow Kernel from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842037 thread.
wow no one. i guess every ones on cm10
I also would like roaming to work on CM10 with the nexus modem.

I'm on CM9 as well, with the NS4G modem. Roaming would be nice for me too.

With all the talk about just etering the roaming menu messing it all up. I booted to cwm flash FC09 modem then booted FC09 KEXCE Rom & setting the roaming to auto & voice & data. Then booted up cwm flashed LF2 Nexus modem.
I'm going to do some things running around. But I can't think of a 100% roam place near by. I mean my phone will roam in some places but I guess I'll leave it like this over the weekend untill I see in auto roam.
Any one try what xboxj said? About trying the Nexus S 4G. Settings.apk & phone.apk

Sprint had a tower down in my area a few weeks ago. It was ALL roaming hear. Funny now I want it to go down lol
Rocking cm9.1
Ok, here is what I did:
1) Reboot to download mode
2) Odin FC09 modem
3) Boot to CWM, flash FC09 multiboot, reboot to stock FC09 (sdcard)
4) Set domestic roaming to automatic for voice & data (was already set)
5) Powered off.
6) Messed up and booted into CM9. Obviously I did not get cell coverage, but for grins, I looked at the setting. I could change it and it would stick. Set it to automatic domestic roaming.
7) Rebooted to CWM.
8) Flashed NS4G KL2 modem.
9) Rebooted to CM9, still on home only, setting doesn't stick anymore.
So, I am pretty sure I am back where I started.
On another note, where did you get a CWM flashable FC09 modem?
Edit: nevermind, I found the modem. Sorry for being a tard. I am going to try making the setting on CM9 stable, without the patch, then patch/install NS4G modem and see how it goes.
Thanks,
Bill

So far on the cm9.1 Nexus S 4G apks to Epic cm9.1 roaming setting are sticking, WiFI Tether AP works, sms seems to work, phone voice call works. idk have not teated much.
Hey Zman, can you offer a "noob" translation for these instructions please
Thank you for sharing these steps Z man. I have spent HOURS working on getting CM 9.1 to work on my Epic (SPH-D700), but roaming was/is not working. I attempted to follow your instructions, but lost my way at the "adding apk." portion. A few Google searches later, I got as far as trying to add the "Settings" and "Phone" apks. with ESFile Explorer, but it failed to replace the already existing files. Additionally, the "MD= [some numbers]", yeah, I have no idea what that means or what to do with that. Finally, the "http://d-h.st/XMo]NS4Gmodempatch-CM9.1_settings_phone.zip - 4.34 MB" appears to be a dead link. My phone is currently able to perform data tasks in 4G, but voice service is gone. I went from being unable to roam to being unable to talk to anyone.
Thank you in advance.
Desperate in DC,
I hope you can help soon.

Do you have a nandroid of the ROM you can restore to see if that will bring back 3g? If not then it's something else.

It's probably something outside of the ROM settings. I don't think a lot of us are familiar with metro but maybe see if someone in the land of googles has had that issue and a fix.
I'd almost say re-flash to metro but I don't recommend it as I'm not sure what the flashing to metro involves.
thats what someone else told me , but i wanted to check around here first . thanks
Some Stock Plus roms have a bad habit of changing the active profile on your phone, and each time you change it and are forced to restart for the changes to take effect, it reverts to the wrong profile after it restarts.
1. to fix it, wipe and flash a Sense rom that worked for you before.
2. go to profile settings using one of those ## shortcuts, I think it is ##data# or ##Debug#, don't remember exactly.
3. Go to Profiles and change the active profile from 0 to 1 or the other way around. (don't remember which is the right profile)
4.Restart and make sure 3G works.
5. Flash your favorite rom that doesn't mess the profiles up.

I just loaded FC19 (tried CM9, but my phone would randomly not ring when plp called)
Does anyone have the Easysmart.apk file or know how to get it without re flashing FC09 first?
Also, if i just drop it in system/app reboot will it be good to go?
finally is there any reason I should not install it?
Thanks
It just turns on wifi periodically to check if you are in a known network if I understand it correctly. Also sends ciq-like data .

Do you know if the apk has been posted anywhere?
It will automatically switch you to the best connection whether it be 4G, 3G or wifi and it will map those spots with GPS so it will connect faster next time you are in the same area. It scans for wifi less often so to conserve battery versus normal wifi scanning.

You can pull it out of any FC09 ROM. It is called easysmart.apk and it won't work with other firmware versions without other supporting files. If on FC09 and don't want to use it simply turn it off. Settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>automatic connections. It is NOT CIQ.

Thanks Kenny,
So i noticed that you said that you must be on FC09, does that meant that easysmart.apk will not work on FC19 without additional work?
I am confused FC19 is a modem not a ROM. Why wouldn't the network app work if you are on a different modem?
I found this in another thread: (cherry picked the relevant parts)
2. Its in system/app in fc09... easysmart.apk
3. Yes push to system/app then reboot and enjoy...
Oops, I flashed FC 19 modem, pushed the FC09 easysmart app, rebooted, and see that the app is not visible in the settings area where it ought to be... bet it has something to do with that lib thing you were talking about...what do you think?
Should I just remove the file? I kind of liked the app, worked good for me....??
iceman19631
You could also try pushing serviceModeApp.apk from FC09 to system/app of FC19. That may help.
Tried it too...the option to "run" the optimizer is no where to be found...sigh...
Yep I'm sure there are some files somewhere that it requires that are missing on fc19..
why not just stick with FC09 modem that is the last offical release there were some problems reported with FC19 that is why it was never released.
done
In order to make it work on FC19 ROM you would need the phone.apk from FC09 ROM at a minimum with thanks to samep for figuring that out.

No.
It sees them, but won't try to automatically connect to anything that doesn't have a saved password.
I use it and like it, other than not being able to customize it. I'm on Boost and it will switch to 4g (which I don't have) and I lose my data. Would be nice to have the option to "lock out" certain radios completely.
If you stay on top of manually switching between wifi and network data then it may not gain you much battery life (if any). But if you are like me, having it switch automatically so it's one less thing to remember will save you a fair bit of battery life.
can i have the APK?

I have encryption turned on right now. WPA2. Works perfectly. Also, the first time I simply froze Sprint Connection Manager. The 2nd time I just disabled it from within the app settings itself.
Works great for me when I follow the directions, thanks OP! Encryption is working for me also.
I was too busy to try this today but posted a link to your thread on Universe JB Rom thread. First user over there that tried it said it worked great. I froze Connection Optimizer with TB and now I'm glad I didn't uninstall it. Thanks again
Worked Great!!
I'm up and tethering again!!!!!
Thanks!!!!
I had this working for a bit, then had to reflash, and can't get it working again. Those of you that have it working, are you using superuser or supersu? One-click or the original tar leak?
ive tried three times to get this working i think the problem ive got is with the connection manager, can some one please explain how to disable it,i know this makes me sound stupid but an actual video would be cool too, any help would be appreciated, thank you8 i finallygot it working thank god jelly bean rocks and thanks for all the help, to disable connection manager i used tb 4,75 hopefully after i load apps it will work
I'm not on the leak anymore... But if I remember right...
Menu, settings, more (near the top under Wifi settings and such), connection manager, disable (uncheck box).
Again I only used fk23 for less than 24 hours so I don't remember the exact options.. Anyway, that would definitely be the reason why it's not working for you.

So I finally managed to get it working... I had to disable 4G or else my wifi devices would not see the SSID being broadcast by my phone. Once on 3G, my devices can now see the SSID broadcast and join the network. Interestingly enough, once the devices are successfully connected to the network, I can then enable 4G to use the additional bandwith.

That is a very odd scenario. Worked perfect for me..
Now that the devices can see your network and are connected to 4G can you turn the network off and on again and will they auto connect? Or do you need to revert to 3g every time? That would be a huge PITA

Yes, it seems I only have to connect while on 3G once, then I can freely start and stop the network on 4g.
LIFESAVER! I played with FK23 for about a day but couldn't deal with the lack of 4G hotspot. So I had gone back to FI27 with the hotspot mod 'til I could find something like this. Works like a charm! Actually, my up and down speeds have increased from the FI27 hack, oddly. Stable Jellybean with working 4g tethering? I'll take it!
FYI: I just selected the device model along with the rest of the settings provided in the OP and it worked fine.

I have downloaded and done a clean install of the latest ROM from Team-Venom "Wicked Sensations v2.0" First of all the ROM is so in depth, and runs smoother than any other ROM I have used in the last year. There is only one issue. The only way I can use mobile data is if I switch the mobile network to CDMA, 4G LTE does allow me to send and receive phone calls but no text messages, or any data whatsoever. . I have read all of Team Venom's thread, well most of it anyways, and I cannot find anyone else having this issue. I am aware of the rules of the forums, so I am posting this under the Q/A as not to bog down or step on anyone's toes, in the developers thread.
Is there a fix for the 4G data issue, or is it just my phone? I have tried everything I can think of such as..
Flash stock Kernal
Flashed the latest radios
flashed the latest PRL's (not sure what that would do but I did it anyways)
tried toggling airplane mode on and off.
Since nobody else is having this issue, I am not sure what else to try. also, when I am using LTE, I DO NOT have the 4G icon next to my signal bars, like I do when I am on 3G.
Before you ask, yes, I do in fact live in an area that does have 4G, I am in Kansas City Kansas.
Anyone with an idea or know how I would be grateful.

Thanks for the replies all. I have done the suggested troubleshooting as follows
1: did a fresh install of the ROM (after wiping EVERYTHING first)
2. went through setup of the device (just to verify 4G was still not working, which it was not)
3. went to dialer and input ##486#
4. chose the reset option
5. entered my MSL # and then the phone did a factory reset.
When the phone came back up I had to go through the setup again, and had to turn on wifi to get through it because the data was still not working.
Also if anyone comes accross this and wants to know how to get the MSL # download a terminal emulator from the market and input "getprop ril.MSL"
Or check out this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28182339
Also while investigating the MSL further I found this possible solution-
"The phone needs to be re-provisioned as follows ##72786# or ##SCRTN# the phone may restart twice, after the restarts, launch a browser and type in your phone number on the prompt."
After following this, when I opened the browser I was not prompted to input anything I was only greeted with a connection error. :crying:
I am still searching for more answers. I am exploring ##DATA# but there is more in here than I am familiar with so I will hold of on this until I know what I am doing.
In the mean time 3G works so I am still able to use my phone just wish I could tether my 4G to my laptop.
Any other ideas are more than welcome.

Well, I just flashed v1.3 and it is working flawlessly, everything is working great. I just think my hardware version is conflicting with the latest v2.0 for some reason. I am out of ideas. I'll stay on v1.3 for now I guess.

I have had the same exact issue and have not found a fix yet. It only happens with certain roms.

BEST ROM I HAVE EVER USED!!!!!!! :good:

Tha'ts weird, I just checked mine and it says global network. I switched it toe CDMA LTE and it works. Even sent a test text message to the wife phone and have no issues.. O here might be the issue. If you go to ##3282# under view then advance, see if LTE is enabled or disabled.. If it is enabled then I bet that is why you do not get 4G service.. I believe LTE does not have 4G service just 3G.. I have done this and my 4G went to 3G after enableing it.. If you have it disabled you will get 4G service..
That is a good idea but even then you have to wait five min. inbetween lol why couldn't I remember my old login that would be way easier

Well I have finally been able to get 4G data working on v2.0!!!
1. Wipe EVERYTHING
2. Flashed sensations v1.3
3. Reboot phone into recovery
4. Flashed v2.0
5. BEFORE REBOOTING OUT OF RECOVERY, Flash latest sprint radios
6. Reboot phone one last time
This has made 4G data work for me.
Im in the car right now, will try to remember to post a link to the latest radios. And PRL Updates. Those are nice to have too.

What are you talking about?

This is what I did and it seemed to work. I switched to cdma only then update profile and prl. Then when I switched back to cdma/lte everything seemed to work fine.
Titles says it all. I live in the baltimore MD area, and where i used to get 3-4 bars of 4g it wont connect to it anymore. I boot it up and it defaults to 3G. Ive tried playing with the mobile data settings and nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any ideas...because i use my phones data connection as home internet right now...
How long has it been happening? It possible the tower is being worked on.

It just started today. Im on CM10 and i would occasionally lose a 4g connection and would have to swtich the mode from lte/whatever/whatever to the other mode...and then back to reconnect..but thats not working anymore....
Edit: This is killing me because I use it for home internet. Im paranoid simply because this is the first month ive used 4G ever...meaning i never even turned lte mode on in the mobile data settings..i didnt even know it was in my area until the beginning of this month.. Im just wondering if me toggling it on and off to get it to connect through CM10 caused this... Thats why im coming here..to smarter people then myself begging and pleaing for assistance and guidance.
Could it perhaps be that sprint was just testing my area for 4g?? OR how long does tower maintenance usually take.. Or that they cut me off from using 4g after using 30gb so far? I mean i have an unlimited plan so it shouldnt be an issue
No they didnt cut you off, they would send a letter before doing that
Second, it usually takes about 2-3 weeks for maintenance to complete on a tower. If you're really concerned, call Sprint and ask if they're in the process of upgrading towers in your area. Who knows, they might even give you some sort of "we're sorry for the inconvenience" credit

Im eyeballing this thread like a hawk for opinions and posts like this. Thanks for your input.
When I first used 4G It was actually by accident on the CM10.1 Nightly. I pressed the Mobile data toggle square in the settings and i saw 4g, I was thrilled that it was in my area. Switched back to stable CM10 and checked if it was up and running. and much to my surprise it wasnt some weird graphical error just showing the 4g icon. It was legit working.
Still isnt working on any rom ive flashed here. Now though since the issue began.
What are the chances in the short time ive used it, that i could have possibly damaged my phones abaility to connect to 4G? Sorry if that question is dumb.
Very little. I doubt that its a hardware issue, because if it were, you would see other things like core apps FCing, the other radios taking longer to connect, maybe even hot reboots when trying to turn on 4G
Like I said, when you have time call Sprint. Most likely the towers are being worked on and they turned it off meanwhile
You might wanna also wanna get Sensorly (from the Play Store) just to doublecheck for LTE in your area

When 4G lte came on in my area it was on for a couple of weeks then they shut it down for 4 or 5 days then it came on and it's been on for almost 3 months. Just fyi this might be what's going on.

Wow thanks guys, you have put my mind at ease about all this. I was just so paranoid that I had specifically done something to the radio. So ill make a call to sprint to see whats up.
Thanks given to all !

I'm experiencing the similar issues, though I flashed over a ASOP Rom that has parts from cm10.1 though the Rom was ported from Verizon, but 4g worked perfectly fine, then when I flashed back to cm10 it stopped working. I'm debating on flashing back to that rom and see if it also does not have access to 4g at this time.
Edit/Update: I flashed back to my stock rom with root then flashed an updated MA6 Rom, updated the PRL, Profile and such, still no 4G. Decided that I'd mess with a few 4g settings, still problems. Then I flashed back to CM10 and my 4G works again.

Do that and post the results here, i will do the same. Sprint was less then helpful with this situation not giving me heads or tails over the phone.

Right before you posted your reply I had updated my post.
Update: I flashed back to my stock rom with root then flashed an updated MA6 Rom, updated the PRL, Profile and such, still no 4G. Decided that I'd mess with a few 4g settings, still problems. Then I flashed back to CM10 and my 4G works again.
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947
odex MA6, MA6 firmware and Stock MA6 kernel
and I accessed the LTE Mode Menu from the following
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815580
I don't think the LTE Mode menu needs to be utlized but I did see some interesting settings in there.

Thats a bit of work, so this could possibly be some janky setting on my phone still huh?
EDIT: I dont have my stock rom backed up. Dont know what happened to it. Could you explain what exactly I need to do to achieve the results you have posted man?
Sorry for the late reply. It could possibly be a setting on your phone. I say make a backup of your rom, flash a stock based rom, kernel & firmware, if it's not ma6 find an update or one based on it. Update the prl and profile. See if you can get 4g working on tw, if not then either restore back to cm10 or try messing with the lte settings, their are some that allow you to enable or disable and such. I also do recall a setting for ehpd 4g or lte 4G. After messing with them try restoring back to cm10. If you take a picture of the lte menu I can look and tell you what settings I clicked.
Edit: Just looked at the link try the lte force cause I know I pushed that button as well as a few others.

I'm looking through the forums and so far the only stock with root only is what I linked above but those are mianly updates. One Possibility if its not a problem I'd sugged Unrooting with odin and flashing a stock rom, reroot then flash the update linked above, then just make a Backup Called Stock with root MA6 or something. I'll keep looking though.

I just had this issue after flashing that Rootbox ROM which was ported from Verizon. I performed the above steps and everything's working fine.
THANKS!
