I've had my Gnex now for about a week, and the first thing I did out the box was unlock, root and flash cwm and kept everything else stock 4.0.4. Now from what I read, since I have a custom recovery, when Verizon decides to push the ota of jelly bean, my device won't get the ota. So my question is, having looked in the Verizon Gnex dev section, there's a plethora of ROMS, as far as my finger can scroll, what's the best stock 4.1 ROM out there, that'll perform as Google intended? I have no qualms with what the devs are putting out there, I just wanna run stock for a while before jumping into the ROM abyss of awesomeness. Thanks in advance for the help.

Loaded it up last night, and so far so good. Gonna give it a test drive for a few before getting it tweaked out, but when I do, I'll let you know. The one thing I have a question about though is, after installing the ROM, I tried restoring my nandroid data backup and got stuck at the X bootanimation, was the lockup due to it trying to restore ICS data over JB?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
That'll happen. Sometimes u'll be stuck at the Google screen for a while too. All JB Roms do this.
Just be patient for the boots. They can take 5 min sometimes maybe more.
And I'd appreciate it if u hit that thanks button for everything I've posted on this thread.

The first boot up was actually about 5 mins, and then after I restored the nandroid that's when I was stuck. In any case, I had a Tbu backup just in case, and I restored things that way. Does the GPS usually take a long time to lock on? It took a few seconds extra to lock and give me navigation. I had to improv in a little bit while driving to my destination. It was a little interesting.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yes. It does take a Lil bit longer. There are fixes out there that COULD help it. But I've never tried them.
And for some reason, when trying to restore From JB back to ICS, u get issues. ICS Should eventually boot though. The boatloader is the reason I think.

Bump: I'm digging JB so far. Now just wondering as far as Google wallet's concerned: I activated it since it came with the vicious ROM, but it says unsupported device, will it not work with my device as is, and is there a fix for it? Is Verizon blocking it and wasn't there supposed to be a credit upon activating it? Thx!

I started using CM9 with euroskank very nice rom - the picasa uploads issue. I used vicious after, but was most pleased with CM10 nightlies. And to be very brutal it is very worth it to get the paid CM app after unlock and root no more installing without knowing it will not work.

I don't think it would work since u need the framework (I think???) And other stuff.
And no, no one is gonna port it. It's not needed and Ur probably the only person on the Nexus Forum that wants this.
I can give u the camera.apk if u wanna try it.

Well if anyone still cares I tried this and ran into a couple problems. First I couldn't find the camera.apk in bigxie's jellybean zip and secondly I tried replacing ics gallery with jelly bean gallery but it would force close when I tried to look at a single picture. Also I think jelly bean camera is built into gallery app because I still had a camera icon in my app drawer after removing the ics camera.apk however it would force close after trying to open it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
im also interested for this. if there's anyone can port it out will be awesome. one of the thing interest me for jellybean is their new concept for camera and gallery. if framework needed. can we just copied it over ? not sure which framework tough.
I think this might just take too much work to be a worthwhile project for someone with the know how to do it. Also we can't complain when we can easily flash jelly bean on our nexus. I think I will just suck it up and live without some of the customizations for a while on jelly bean AOKP. I'm sure it'll catch up to ics within a month or so. The nighties feature list is filling up quite quickly.
Well it sure can be done, the question is, if someone is willing to put the time into it. But all you need to do, is actually to pull the code for the app from aosp, and put it in eclipse, and then start fixing errors and rewrite whatever shows up.
I think it might take a larger amount of work than usual for this type of thing, due to the fact that camera and gallery are in one apk now. Then again, it seems like a nice challenge. I wish I had the time and a little bit more coding knowledge to try it.

Well I guess someone did work on it, I never thought about the fact that there would be a demand for this from users of other devices that will likely never get official jellybean.
I can confirm that the CAMERA JB+ works for ICS.
So you can use the JB gallery and JB camera on ICS.
No bugs or lag and the quality is the same.

maybe its a kernel issue like a jellybean kernel wont work on a ics rom like miui idk thats what heppened to me when i tried to dual boot
Kernel???? How??? I did an experiment to see a certain result. I tried to duel boot from JB to JB (Vicious Into CM10) and it didn't work.
So it can't be the kernel.
This app is sooo neat though that I refuse to give up and get it to work. I've been reading the App's website about how to use it.

And I just did ICS to ICS. it works......
I sent an email to the app devs about this. Hopefully they'll give me some clues. And I hope it's not an abandoned project. This app gotta be THE GREATEST idea ever.
Here is the support forum:

---------HERE IS THE EMAIL----------
Hello!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I have downloaded your jaw dropping app "Boot Manager". I have the Galaxy Nexus running v4.1.1. I have read the Manual Website and learned a lot about your app. Just when I thought my phone was ready for it's first ever dual boot, my phone gets stuck at the Google Screen and then directs me back to Recovery. I was able to fix it by following instructions on your websites.
Attempted Dual Boot:
JB(Vicious JellyBean) into ICS(Paranoid Android)
So then I tried an experiment. I figured maybe I can't dual boot JB into ICS. So I tried to dual boot JB into JB. It failed as well.
Attempted Dual Boot:
JB(Vicious JellyBean) Into JB(CM10)
I have never tried ICS to ICS yet. But I don't want to use ICS as a primary rom. So are you guys working to fix this with an update??? Or do u have an answer to fix this now???
I really want to buy the Pro but I don't think that will solve the issues. =\
Thanks for reading!!! ^__^

I wasn't sure if it would work with all the ROMs or maybe just some?
If it would work for some ROMs then maybe we could compile a list and post this tweak for all to use.

OK I wanna know how much more complicated unlocking and rooting is compared to GNEX.
Because a GNex is very easy to modify. I also wanna know if this device has any common defects. Because I currently own a Galaxy Nexus and my friends is waiting for my recommended device.
I wanna recommend a GNex and use all my experience on it for a quick hackery job. But the Gnex is too outdated for my friend's taste.
I wanna recommend the S3 for it's superior hardware, BUT!!! how easy is it to root and slap a ROM on it and swap out kernels and unlocking it and what are possible defects. I wanna rate of difficultly for the rooting experience of GNex(its a 1 on difficulty)
--------------------------------------------------
If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
No experience with other devices, but it's pretty easy. Slap a readily available pre-rooted stock ROM onto it through ODIN one time, install CWM, and then you're flash-happy forever.
Videos to see how easy it is....

What's up ? First I just wanted to thanks EVERYONE who has even taken ten seconds to look at my thread. Now to the important stuff!
This is a new rom that I have been working on for the last two days. This rom is based on CyanogenMod's source code for it's unreleased 10.2 version , which is based on Android 4.3 I worked pretty hard to bring this out so that I can start a rom that I am going to build for ALL OF YOU. What I mean is that this rom will be more like Linux is. I am not developing it for myself , but for you , the XDA community. Everyone puts these roms out and says "IT'S MINE . ILL DO WHAT I WANT!" Well not this one it will be driven by the community's thoughts and requests.
Things to know before install :
Rom is a work in progress.
I will be updating as much as possible
There are a few VERY small things not working. (Most you wont even notice.)
Battery life is AMAZING with stock kernel.
( I do recommend using kt's kt/aosp/att/4.3 kernel make sure to download THE LATEST VERSION.
Rom is running Android 4.3 .
This rom is VERY FAST. Faster than any CM release before 10.2.
Downloads :Sorry I haven't uploaded to Mega yet , but you can download from my Google Drive:
Rom : https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4Ud9G8NpSoLQlV3anRxRXdnZzA/edit?usp=sharing Gapps : https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4Ud9G8NpSoLZkp4S1pPbWFfTEE/edit?usp=sharing
Installation :
Do a standard wipe . ( I always do it three times.)
Install rom.
Install Loki-doki.zip OR a Loki'd kernel.
Install Gapps.
After you flash the above (In the order posted.) Go to reboot and choose turn off.
Wait 10 minutes , restart, and voila! You have my rom running CM 10.2 and Android 4.3 !!!
THIS ROM IS ROOTED BUT HAS TO BE ENABLED IN DEVELOPER OPTIONS!!
How to enable root :
Go to settings.
Scroll down to developer options.
Click on ROOT ACCESS.
Change it first to ADB ONLY , Next change to DISABLE, last change it back to APPS ONLY.
Enjoy having root access on your phone from now on.
I'm going to try to work hard on this for you everyone who wants to use it. Pleas let me know any errors or just suggestions on how to make it better . Thanks @neriamarillo. This guy right here , along with a few other people pushed me to build this. Neria was my first tester . He helped me push this rom.

Volume as in ? I mean calls , music , exterior speaker ? Which volume are you experiencing low levels?

Overall volumes...ringtone, lock and unlock sounds, music etc...

That strange mine isn't doing that. OK first try to turn off your device and wait two or three minutes then turn it back on . I know that sounds funny but I was having a few errors too. So I turned off my device waited ten minutes, turned back on , went to settings , sounds , and I turned them all up and mine sound was loud .

What I've seen this is with CM in the 10.2 builds. They should fix it. I haven't had it happen but I've seen people complaining about it.
Going to flash this baby asap will return with results and overall thoughts. Thank you op for your time and effort.

Idk why but mine isn't really that quiet. I mean maybe a little lower but not really that noticeable. Either way that is the first thing I've written in my notebook of things to look at and fix . Thaank you for feedback.

One quick fix is to use DSP manager and change your speaker settings to treble booster and it makes them much louder. That's probably why I didn't know what you guys were talking about.

info
Flash went smoothly....waited 10 minutes...power on...right at start up i got a "unfortunately clock has stopped", but nothing after or since. -- went thru setup. Very smooth and quick. It is fast...great job. Had to adjust a wallpaper setting so the wall paper didnt bleed over (I always only have 3 homescreens instead of 5) not a big deal at all. Audio is fine. Data is fine. WiFi is fine. Focal opened up immediately, only problem is front facing cam in Focal. Orientation is wacky. Stock camera is fine. I'm very happy with the snappiness of the ROM. Smooth. Thanks....will be keeping an eye on this one daily.
Good work!!! Thank u.

GREAT feedback. Yeah everything's pretty good. But yeah focal is running great except for the front facing shots. It renders them upside down sometimes.

The focal issue is known with CM. They need to fix that. Focal is still an alpha build so it will get better.
