Thinking about buying the Droid Incredible, help w/advice & questions

I am currently a Motorola Razr user (yes, I am way behind the times!), and it finally is time to get a smartphone. I don't want to get the iPhone because I can't stand Apple, and I think I've narrowed my search down to the Droid Incredible (I think the Droid X is a bit large).
However, I have a few questions I hope can get answered, and I need some advice:
1) Battery life- I have heard mixed things about the Inc's battery life. Most say it is not good, and some say it is just fine. If I am planning on rooting and loading a custom ROM, how would you rate the battery life? Compared to the Droid X and the iPhone 4? How long does a single charge last?
2) LED light - I know the video mode does not turn on the LED light for constant light, but I read somewhere that the Inc will get an update that will get LED constant video light - is this true? I know 720p was recently added.
3) I just checked out the phone at my local Verizon store, and when scrolling through menus/etc it tends to lag sometimes. Can this be fixed if I root and load a custom ROM?
4) I am also thinking about waiting for the Samsung Fascinate to come out, but that could be a while, and I need a phone pretty soon (in the next week or two). If the Droid Inc. is very close to the Fascinate in features (which I think it is except for the Super AMOLED 4-inch screen), would it be wise to wait for the Samsung, or should I bite the bullet and get the Droid Inc. now?
Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. Battery sucks. Only 4hours of moderate use.
2. I never use the led light, so I can't help there
3. Roms and kernels fix all lag. Try cm6 or skyraider with Hydra v.08 icicles or ocov (whichever is stable). That will fix lag.
4. Super amoled vs amoled- you can see super amoled in the sun, and it is difficult with regular.

Wow u sure know a lot without having the phone. I've had the Droid incredible now for around 3 months, I used to have the iPhone then a LG dare then the Droid Eris. I can honestly say the Incredible is the best of all the phones ever.
1) battery life- battery life for Me lasted 22 hours but this depends entirely upon how you use your phone. I had maybe a half hour of music a day, 20-40 texts and maybe a half hour of all the other stuff. Now I am rooted and running a rom(cyanogenmod test 7) on my incredible and I can get possibly a few extra hours of batt.
2) Led Light - in order to use the LED light while video recording, I believe their should be an ota update comming out as earley as friday that will fix this problem and add many more features.
3) Performance - when it comes to the speed and performance of the device, that depends on what is taking up the CPU, the more apps you have running, if you download task manager to kill the apps to stop them from running, the CPU will have more ram to coordinate itself. As it stands, the phone you saw in the store probably had its ram( CPU) taken up by all the running apps. An overclocked kernel for use with a rom can also solve this problem.
4) give or take- I highly reccomend the Incredible to anyone on Verizon's network. I too found the Droid x was very large and wouldent fit my lifestyle. As for the Samsung Facinate. The incredible and facinate are very close performance wise. If I was in your position I might consider the facinate just because its newer, but I highly reccomend the incredible because its just amazing.

I recently got an Incredible, coming from Windows Mobile. I've been using WinMo for about 3 years now and got tired of it, mostly due to AT&Ts crappy network. Was waiting for them to get their network improved and possibly get better phones but iPhone wasn't my choice either.
Here are some of my objective (hopefully) experience so far -- keep in mind I only have it for 5 days now.
1) Size: the device is the right size for me. I tried the EVO and while it's has a really nice screen, it's too big for my needs. The Incredible I get the same hardware with a smaller size factor.
2) Battery: this was a major concern of mine when getting this phone. However, so far I haven't noticed bad battery life on it. I used it for about 2-3 hours non stop (playing games, checking emails). For the rest of the day I had only Mobile Data enable and everything else disabled (GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth). I also installed "Advanced Task Killer" which is configured to kill tasks every 30 mins. This a great program and works well so far. I have purchased the upgraded battery (1750 mAh) which does not require a back cover change. Still waiting to get it. For the usage I did today, I had about 40% battery left.
3) Customization: The same day I got the phone, I was able to root the device and load custom ROMs. While I'm familiar with the ROM process on WinMo, I think the Android is much easier to work with. There are some good guides on the forums and UnRevoked makes it very easy to root the phone. After flashing a few ROMs, I ended up flashing back the Verizon ROM and using ADB to remove a few package. Works fine for me. Don't get any lags or notice any performance issue with HTC Sense. You can always replace HTC Sense with LauncherPro or some other launcher. LauncherPro has a lot of customization.
4) Screen: AMOLED ver Super AMOLED, I don't think there's much difference, at least from what I've read and seen in videos. Haven't seen the Super AMOLED in person to compare. What I can tell you about the Incredible, is that I have no issue with the screen so far. I have it set to auto adjust the brightness which seems to work well.
Using it for only 4 days, I think it's a great phone and customization seems to be endless, or at least can keep you VERY busy.
Verizon should have a 30 day return policy so order it, try it out and see how it works for you. If you don't like it, return it and wait for the Samsung or some other ones coming up... you will not be short of options. lol.

Also, which upgraded battery did you get, that doesn't add any bulk/size?
I just wish someone knew when the Samsung Fascinate is coming out... if it were 2-4 weeks away, I'd probably just wait until that comes out.

The battery I purchased is from www.seidioonline.net. I've used their products in the past for a previous WinMo phone and it works well. The battery is a slim battery while adding additional capacity so it does not add any bulk to the phone.
Yes, Verizon's return policy has a $35.00 restocking fee. I look at it as a small price to pay for using the phone for 30 days and then returning it.
Try both and see what best fits your needs. In the end it's what works best for you that matters.

Yeah, unfortunately, still no word on the Fascinate/Galaxy S for VZW. But if you need a phone now, you'll be happy with the Incredible.

1) battery life. Coming from a non smart phone (I had a ENV Touch) the battery life simply does not compare. That battery would last for days with moderate use, and over a week with light use. But that's one of the trade-offs with any smart phone. I charge nightly now, but haven't had any issues with the stock battery draining during a day of moderate use. Compared to my BB curve (which I still have, stupid work exchange server policies) battery life is similar when it comes to periods when the phone is heavily used, but it does seem to drain faster on standby. Overall, battery is bearable in my opinion.
2) dunno.
3) I don't notice any lag on mine. It's always been very responsive in my experience with the stock setup. Anyplace in particular?
4) The Galaxy S is the only one of the 4" screen models I've seen yet which I'd consider over the Incredible. It's still a bigger phone, and I really like the size of the incredible. The screen should be better in sunlight, and looks to have a little better color in the videos I've seen, and it also should be much better in terms of 3D processing. If it was out today, I'd definitely consider trading in my incredible for one. But it's not, and who knows when it will be released.
Overall I've been really happy with my incredible, and don't think you can go wrong with the phone. If you can hold off, the Fascinate looks like a great phone as well, but two months later, yet another phone which is better yet will be released. The incredible is proven to be a very solid phone, samsung has had some hits and misses in the past.

Cool - I am really thinking about getting the Inc., instead of waiting for the Fascinate to come out. A few more questions in the meantime:
1) Out of curiosity, is it possible to purchase a European Galaxy S and have it work on AT&T here in the US?
2) If I buy the Inc., root it and load a custom ROM, will I still receive OTA updates for FroYo and the other patch that adds the Video light?

I've had the phone since launch... not sure how long its been now....
1) Battery life is pretty decent for a smartphone. I have the Seidio 1750mAh battery and I get 19-20 hours everyday with 30-40% left. I leave home at 5AM and I don't plug in until I go to sleep, usually around 12. I however wouldn't recommend the seidio battery as its more expensive than the TP2 battery and you get the same capacity. Take a look at Batteryboss.org. I own 3 of these Seidio batteries and if you take the plastic cover off, you can see they are all 1500-1590mAh cells. I use Gtalk all day, not much SMS, around 20 Gmails and 10-15 exchange emails a day with realtime syncing, and about an hour of talk per day. I use automatic task killer as well.
2) The 2.2 Froyo ROMs have the light on for the camcorder. Check here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738634
3) The lags through the menus are most likely because of everyone playing with the phone, opening all the apps, webpages, etc and never killing any tasks or rebooting. This is a "smartphone/computer" and closing programs is necessary. I have had lag in the menus usually when the phone is syncing or installing an app etc, very few though. Also the froyo with 2.6.32 gives you more available RAM and its faster, haven't had any menu lag yet!
4) The hummingbird SoC is definitely an improvement of Snapdragon, same cpu (very close) just better gpu and other small changes. The superAmoled display is mainly brighter in the fascinate, makes reading the display in sunlight easier.
Incredible Vs Fascinate? Its really a look and feel preference I'd say... You really need to touch the device and use it in person to make an informed decision. For me, the incredible is very thin and light and fits in my pocket with no case, just a zagg shield and I barely notice its there, thats why I chose it. If you need a phone very soon get the incredible from BestBuy and pricematch wirefly or amazon. They have a 30 day return policy (no restocking fee) and you can exchange it if you decide on the Fascinate.
PS. I think the incredible is still back ordered. Everyone I've seen has a 5-10 days delay... Might be worth just waiting a couple weeks to decide

seriously though, this post is exactly what i've been going through the last two weeks...
i couldn't decide whether to wait for the elusive Fascinate or go for the Inc or the X. throw in the rumors that tiered data is coming soon too... i've been so anxious lately.
i couldn't take it anymore so i ordered the Inc. the X is way too big for my hands to use one handed comfortably.
Sense is way better than Ninjablur. Samsung's UI stinks. The Inc has higher pixel density and a better processor imo.
i'm only worried about the crappy audio codec and slow framerates during HD recording. Man, the sound is horrible.
i sure wish i could get a solid release date on the fascinate. graphics chip is sick. BUT, i don't wanna wait too long and lose the opportunity to get unlimited data.

I'd say don't buy one. It's a great phone.. Best one I ever had in my opinion. If your a newb, looking for help ,without getting insulted, this isn't the phone for you!
Love the phone, hate the support. Don't get this phone if you don't know more than anyone else around here. Prepare for total Internet tough guy vengeance as they flex there "i know more unix than you!" muscles at every turn. Want a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer if a certain csv is supported by 2.2?
Prepare for a, total IRC rock em sock em, you don't know what i know, brawl as they flirt with file extensions and unix innuendos that you don't understand. Make new names in irc to mock you, and just piss all over yer newbness. Just bask in the awesomeness of there skills and eat it. YOU DONT KNOW MORE THAN ME LA LA LAA LAA LAAA LAAA!

should i buy a Nitro?!

I want to pick up a nitro, I'm wondering if there is a stable ics 4.0 rom for it yet. i see the akop rom but it says it has issues with video and the video camera. are there any other roms that run pretty close if not perfectly. thanks for the input

Some say battery life is bad. in stock rom, heck yeah, but then it gets better. i just went with an extended 3800 mAh battery and its doing me great on stock rom. just ran 14 hours on it (under heavy usage)

International version is p936 for which there is a .kdz rom usable on the p930 (all variants) but that will unfortunately prevent the possibility to root
Battery life isn't that bad for me, but I've rooted the phone and disabled, with no bloat free, all the at&t packages + few others.
I usually (with normal use and letting the phone on 24/7) get 3 days with 2 charges.. so a day and half per charge or so.
When I use it more intensely I detach it from charger in the morning and reattach it before going to sleep which is acceptable for me because it doesn't die on me during the day.

got it!! the latest cm9 nightly installed, so far so good,the screen is a little narrower than id like, but it does make it nice to hold. so heres the first day with battery, lets see how it goes. thanks for the help guys i think this may be something to hold me over till the htc one x gets a little cheaper.

8mile lol true. Battery life is not that bad on the nitro. And if it was then an extended battery would work even bettrt

How is the build quality of this phone? Anyone encounter any hardware problems?
I currently have a Galaxy s2(Sprint). I've never owned an LG device and the galaxy forums rarely have anything good to say about LG. I'm not here to start a fight or bash phone manufacturers.
With the announcement of the Optimus Lte2 and Eclipse Lte specs, I am rather intrigued. Thanks in advance.

build quality is excellent. My favorite out of all the LTE devices at&t has. Nice grippy back Vivid is too heavy, skyrocket feels too plasticky to me. Nice medium on the nitro.

I second that. I think LG has some very good build quality. The reason people are so hostile toward LG on this site is not clear to me, but it's certainly true that LG does not have particularly good dev support.
On the plus side, none of their devices are NAND locked as far as I know, which is nice after coming from an HTC phone.

I generally like to try a lot of phones. And finally sold my 4s for 550 and bought a new nitro in box for 250. Best decision ever.
Spent 2 usd unlocking it and 20 bucks for the extended battery. Rooting it was a pain but finally succeeded. Now happily enjoying cm9. Love this phone as much as I loved my galaxy nexus. This phone is totally underrated for reasons unknown to me. Its quick, great screen and nice build quality. No issues with any of the radios (my infuse used to struggle to get a GPS lock). I finally feel like I am not going to switch phones for a while as this has everything m looking for.

I am currently switching back and forth from ATT one X to my nitro (I'm a phone geek). The one x screen rapes the nitro screen. You'd have to use one to understand. That said, the one x screen is too big for my taste.

Afaik, nobody here has reported yea or nay on the Nitro working on Tmobile's data. You'd definitely get phone service and at least GSM 2G/Edge, but you may not get your full HSPA+. I did hear that Tmobile was enabling the 1900 band, though, in some markets, so it's possible you might be able to use it just fine.

Cool, as long as she's able to make phone calls. She's been using my old iphone 3gs for the past several years and now her screen has become unresponsive. She mainly uses the phone to check weather and take pictures of her grand children. Since the device has a good display, I am sure she will enjoy the Nitro. I'm just glad she's not one of those high maintainance facebooking grandmothers. Thanks for the input

Should I get the int Hox? Coming from AT&T Hox

Hey all.
I've been an AT&T Hox owner since day one and I've really enjoyed this device. Battery life is insanely good, consistently getting over 24 hours usage and 5 hours on screen time. I am uprooted and on the stock rom.
I've been thinking about getting the int Hox because it seems to be getting a lot of updates and has a lot of developer support. HTC and AT&T aren't saying anything about the customs issue which is undoubtedly affecting sales. Rumors even have it that AT&T may stop selling the phone altogether. If that's true then I pretty much have a dead phone, especially since this variant is NOT the One XL int model.
I am not willing to give up the amazing battery life at the cost of benchmark scores. My phone is a tool and I need it to last a long time. What are typical battery stats of the int Hox out of the box? I also don't want to root and flash all kinds of roms until I get good battery life. Thanks for the help.

There are plenty of threads regarding battery life. I'll be getting my International ONE X by Friday, I'll give you stats then. I'll be using it on Red Pocket (AT&T MVNO)

I'm not willing to give up the good battery life though. On the int Hox it seems to vary greatly from device to device. But even on HSPA+ its not as good as the LTE model.

The international One X would not have LTE if used on AT&T, right?
And it would have significantly worse battery life b/c it uses Tegra 3?
Would the custom ROMs available on the international One X make the battery life equivalent to the at&t model which uses the S4?

Battery life is important, but I am not away from chargers long enough to worry about it.
I like the 32 GB of storage vs 16 and the unlocked bootloader and the development that is in place here.

I'm the other way around, I had the Tegra3 HOX 2 weeks ago because I didn't want to wait anymore, but I was waiting for the S4 version to come

I have what you're going to get. battery life is awesome, and everything is good. I just dont like the 2GB data cap on redpocket, but will be switching to straight talk unlimited everything for $45. dont go with redpocket, go with straight talk

I've had my HOX international for a couple weeks but didn't stay stock long enough to tell you how your battery life would be. On ARHD 6.0.0 with faux123 002b3 kernel, I am typically seeing 15-18 hours with around 2.5hrs screen time, 2-3hrs playing MP3, 15 min fetch email on 3 accounts, 100 text, 20 min talk, and a little browsing. Meets my needs just fine and the 26gb available vs 9gb on the HOXL really makes the HOX the more prudent device to own. It's just going to get better as software updates and development continues.

The only negatives for the International version are the battery life and no LTE. For me, I don't care about the LTE, and hopefully the rom dev's can do some improvements to the battery life (especially when using the camera).
The advantages of the International version are the 32gb, the speed and it's not limited by US carriers.
However, honestly I don't think either is that much better to switch from one to the other. There are positives and negatives of both and the negatives can circumvented other ways (power packs, cloud storage, portable wifi storage (whatever that thing is called), etc.).
I do have a great idea for the power problem... make a holster that has a usb input outside with the pushpin connectors (whatever they're called) inside. You plug a power pack into the holster and put it in your pocket... then every time you holster it, it'll charge the phone. Another option would be a slightly bigger holster that has its own power pack. You'd have to do some slightly tricky curve around the bottom for the pushpins because you wouldn't want the phone screen facing out, but it looks doable.

Wow im in the same boat as you guys pretty much lol, i just ordered the international version because i was tired of the almost no dev support on the phone (one xl), plus the 16gb storage with only like 8gb usable was getting to me ...
im a bit nervous for battery life thats it, because the one xl did have amazing battery life. best ive ever seen on a phone and the reports on this tegra 3 seem conflicting.

You can always carry a 10000mah external power pack for $50.
You can't add 16gb or turn a dual-core into a quad-core.

I had the AT&T HOX and was pretty unhappy with it. The SMS bug was annoying and there were a few other things.
Since picking up the International version, I have been much happier. I don't know what it is, but it just seems better. As to battery life: I have been pleasantly surprised. My experience is that the Int version does better when idling. So, all that time it's in your pocket, it's using no juice. That's kind of nice. It means when you pull it out of your pocket, there are no surprises. It pretty much has as much juice as it had when you put it away.
With a few hours of screen time, I'm still getting around 14 hours off the charger.

My battery life is awesome. I get a full day with good usage on my part.

It depends on what you're running. I ran it a day with really no apps on stock and the battery seemed great. After moving to a custom rom and installing all the apps, not so much. I run a number of apps that do polling or transferring of data, which I assume is why there are always a big discrepancy in battery reports. For instance, i run touchdown which is constantly polling my work email (and I get a lot of work email), dropbox which syncs my pictures, an IM client or two (depending on what i'm doing at the time work/etc), etc. Of course, I could not run those apps and get better battery life, but then, I could also go back to using a blackberry if I want to do nothing with my phone. From what I see on the forums, this phone does seem to do better with media and 'on demand' functionality, I think its just people who run a lot of background processes that experience the battery issue. Don't get me wrong, it's not an issue with this phone in particular, but rather battery technology. I've just changed my habits from carrying a couple extra batteries to a portable battery charger. Though, the batteries were a little easier to deal with, but whatever.

I honestly don't use the web that much. At work I'm on WiFi and also at home. Only place my data gets used is my gfs house, and even then I'm too busy to use the phone because of sexy Time purposes lol
I'd rather be throttled then cutoff like I would be with red pocket

Is the Galaxy Nexus battery really that bad?

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S3. So far I love it..... Except for the fact it has the locked bootloader. All my Androids have had full custom roms. I just like the user experience of AOSP much better.
I am an average or below average power user. Yesterday I took my SGS3 off the charger at 6am and with above average use all day (I was setting all my email and apps up and a few video google talk chats), and was able to make it till 11pm before the device shutdown.
With the SGS3 having a locked bootloader, and not knowing if there will be a workaround to get me a AOSP rom running, I was thinking about returning this device and getting a Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Is the battery life really as bad as I am reading?
I am north of Boston and not in a 4G market yet, and even if I was I would most likely shut 4G off for the most part.
Should I hold out in hopes of a bootloader unlock workaround for the SGS3?

I'm content with the battery. One charge gets me through the day with what I do and want to do. When I'm home, I always have a charger to use so I only need the battery to last 8 hours.

I have the GSM model and I can easily do two days with a charge. In areas with bad reception this is reduced. However, I still would get 32 hours without a problem.

As long as you don't 4G whore all day, a full day is easy.

I'm a heavy user. I average 4 to 5 hours screen on time with ease. Phone last from 6 am to 11 pm with juice left still if I cut back to 2 to 3 hours screen on time.

If battery life is important to you then check out the Power Saving mode on the GS3. You can activate in Settings or in the Notification Drop-down. Among other things it downclocks both the CPU and GPU. The phone feels noticably slower in some tasks but it can really stretch out the battery if that's what you care about.

Would I get rid of an SIII for a Nexus? I don't think I would. I love my Nexus and I love the fact that I'm already running JB, but the SIII is one nice phone.
As far as battery life, just the other day I had done 12 hours and it was down to 59% on my GSM Nexus. That was probably a little bit less activity than I normally do but still fairly normal. No video calls or anything like that though. But even with that, for me I've always found that I can get great batteries and chargers from Amazon for cheap and I always carry an extra battery with me just in case. I have one in my bag (gadget freak so I have my gadgets bag), one in my car, one at work. They hold a charge for a very long time too so it's not like I have to be charging them all the time.
What I haven't been able to easily find for the GSM Nexus is spare original batteries. I could easily find those in Amazon for the CDMA one but not the GSM. I like using my NFC and the spare batteries I have do not have NFC

you easily make one day. my average use is 1.5, sometimes above. i have never felt its consumption is weak or bad. if you can, get nexus. i wouldnt wait for anything software related down there in the food chain. hardware is not as important as people make it or manufacturers, who sell new devices every week, would wish it to be. google makes phones that withstand a solid 2 year run. try that with an s3. a fully unlocked and cyanogenmod supprted s3 is something else, but still, when key lime is out you'll be haunted again.

This phone has amazing battery, only the galaxy note and the blu studio 5.3(this thing lasts longer than anything) are better in my case

I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now and the battery is not great, but it does seem to perform better after the initial couple weeks. I'm a heavy user, and I have a charger at work and home and it works for me. I love the phone and all the features so it's worth it to me; it's essentially my main computer now.

I get great battery life with this phone, even my girl too and she always has issues with battery. But we did switch from sprint to prepaid with straight tall and monthly 4g

Well, I guess I'll be a downer. I have never been able to get over 8 hours with 2 hours screen on time, tried a few different rom and kernel combos. In my opinion keep the S3.

So long as you're talking about the GSM Galaxy Nexus, OP, the battery is praiseworthy. I bought a GNex from the play store shortly after learning that Samsung would all but abandon the GS2 with regards to future OS updates now that the GS3 is out. Battery is pretty much comparable, I'd say. I managed about 1 day and 10 hours on a charge a few days ago, with 3 hours of screen-on time or so. Some of that time was spent using turn-by-turn navigation as well. I think I put it back on the charger with 8 or 9 percent of the battery left. Friends who have the Verizon Galaxy Nexus report very different results when it comes to battery.

From what I have gathered from the OP he mentions that his SGS3 has a locked bootloader which probably means he has the Verizon version. I would think he wants comparisons to the Verizon/LTE variant of the Galaxy Nexus in terms of battery life, not the GSM version.
The reason I bring this up is that, from what I have read in the forums, the GSM GNex is far better on battery life than the LTE version so it would be an inconsistent comparison.

I've gotten 4.5+ hours of screen time with ease. Bone stock and no attempts to improve battery life at all.
On both the SGS and SGS2 AOSP ROMs (I tried many) got half the battery life that CheeseWiz got.

I can get about 6-7 hours on a CDMA nexus, kinda sucks but I bought extra batteries

DNA or GneX

Ok so i have a DNA and i have a Gnex im having trouble deciding which i should keep for the long run. Obviously specs are on the DNA's side, but customizability is with the Gnex. My main question is battery and signal, i havent had my gnex long enough to see how these perform with the Dna so i was hoping you could help. My Gnex is rooted running Muzzy's latest 4.3 build im using Tinykernal also i am using the hyperion 3800 mah extended battery. Will this combination last as long as my dna throughout the day if not longer, and will the phone be able to hold on to somewhat of the same signal that my dna has? Thanks.

i'd hold on to the Dna cause it has better hardware than the gnex
and i'm sure the DNA has decent development no?

In terms of updates Gnexus wins all the way to KLP. Knowing HTC practice, you may not even get KLP

Thats if you live and breathe your phone. I hardly ( and this is the MAJORITY of the users) ever go past 1:30 display time. To anyone who goes over this "average" time has serious issues and should stop to think if most of the interaction is between a computer or actual people. If you view movies and things like that, thats another story but equally annoying. Its a small screen, I can't possibly see myself enjoying a movie in a 4.65 inch screen as a lot of the details are lost but thats just me.
On topic: The GN is a great phone but only due to the work the developers around here. You will receive biased opinions here and thats mainly because many if not most of us have not had a first hand experience with the DNA. So with that said, go with the GN lol

The DNA runs circles around our phones spec wise, the gnex is getting old, given the gnex will last a long time even after google drops support for it, but your DNA will probably be a device you'll want to use more, bigger screen, better specs, and the development is just fine there.

Serious issues for using your phone for more than 1:30 a day? Browsing social networks and texting casually throughout the day will easily go past 1:30 screen on time.

The DNA gets 2-3 more bars than the Galaxy Nexus, but that doesn't mean better download/upload speeds. The RAZR M usually has the same signal strength as the GalNex, yet 10 times outta 10 the RAZR M beats the GalNex in download speeds... Though ping and upload are about the same. So if you're concerned about that, run speedtests on both in a Verizon store.
I don't like the non-removable battery and storage (if you're going to limit the storage with no SD card option, at least make it 32 GB....), and I really don't like the plug over the micro USB port. Also, 9/10 or so used DNAs on eBay have scratched screens... Not sure if that matters to you, but yours will probably fall victim, it's apparently not Gorilla Glass.
Also, I'm done with HTC, ever since they ****ed over the Thunderbolt owners with updates and releasing the kernel source, I think a lot of us have been weary. How many phones can you say have 4.3 on stock or a ROM? There's the Google Play edition phones, the Nexus line (save the One and S).... Not much else I'm sure. Most devices don't have it anyway.
