The albums in the gallery are suddenly gone today and no matter what I did, they won't show up. Only the newly taken/downloaded ones will be displayed but everything shows up perfectly fine using QuickPic/any file explorer/my PC.
I've tried..
Rebooting
Deleting cache/clear data of the Gallery app
Rescan Media app
Check for .nomedia file
None of them has worked so far. Any help will be appreciated.

Sometimes pictures organized in third party file explorer won't show up either. But may show up after a few days, or never. It's pretty random. Do they require that every file operation should be done inside stock gallery app?
Gallery issue
I have the similar problem with Gallery, tried full wipe an flash a new, still no go.
Bump - any help/suggestion is really appreciated here.
This just happened to me today as well. If I search it out I can find then in the correct file path. It is just Gallery app is not displaying them. The only thing I have done is wiped and flashed black bean ROM the wiped and restored to pure AOSP. It may have been going on before the flash but I didn't notice it.

After trying nearly everything, I've found out the reason that my photos (and music later too) have disappeared because either my phone or an app is creating the .nomedia file in either the Android>data directory or root of internal storage.
It's really weird because I don't have any app installed that allows me to hide media file. Yet the phone somehow managed to create the .nomedia file randomly by itself. :-\ I've deleted .nomedia file for 3 times already, seems like it will come back every time when I reboot my phone.

On BB thread, users have tried these gapps and all was fine -

Maybe it's something with current gapps and some phones? I'm on a Maguro.
So if I want to delete this no media file. Do you mind giving me the files path?

its more than just the gallery i believe. its the phone not being able to access anything from the sdcard. this also happened to me randomly in the middle fo the day today.
i also tried to delete the .nomedia file but like MilkPudding said, the file is automatically recreated when the phone is rebooted so theres no way to tell if that actual file is causing the problem. everything was working fine until the middle of the day today.
what makes the situation stranger is that i took a photo this morning with my phone around 10am, and then 2 more around 1:30pm, and in between that time, it mustve happened that it just stopped reading the sdcard. So when i opened the gallery when i first noticed the problem, the 2 photos i took at 1:30pm were the only 2 showing up, but then timestamps were off. the photos were literally taken one after the other and the timestamps showed them as being taken at 2:58pm and 3:56pm. once i transferred the pictures to my computer through mtp, those 2 photos stopped being shown in the gallery. SO. WEIRD.
this is more than a little weird that this problem seemed to start popping up for many people today, with seemingly no reason for it, and yet, there are many many more who are completely unaffected.
Same issue with euroshank CM10 nightly.......I cannot solve the problem!
Use quickpic (free in play store) it is much better for managing pictures and allows you to add/remove folders

yeah, it seems that some third party apps can still read the sdcard, cuz MXplayer still sees all the camera videos and other videos i loaded. GoSMS on the other hand didnt recognize the notification sounds on it though.
This is happening to many people, all today, all across different ROMs, different versions of Android, and different devices.
Am I the only one that has considered some type of software infection or mass produced bug from a common third party app we are all using?

GO SMS can't read the SD card. It won't let me set any custom ringers for my friends. Does anyone know of a seperate notification setter app that I could use instead until this problem is fixed?

Yesterday afternoon my phone started launching the clock desktop when I press home.
I don't know how it happened or how to fix it.
Running Gingersnap 1.21.

I froze the clock app, home button goes home again.
I'm just irritated because that's not fixed, it's not running right and I don't know how to fix it. If anybody has got a clue what's going on lmk please.

Which Rom, kernel and launcher are you using?
Gingersnap 1.21...whatever the kernal that comes with it...the launcher is the one from gingersnap too, not tw.
I posted in the Gingersnap thread of the dev section too, nobody could offer any assistance.
Sorry I don't have more info for you, I'm just an end user. Thanks for trying.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Find your launcher in the app manager and clear defaults if its checked. This will reset the default action or launcher and hopefully ask which launcher you want to use. But I would look into getting a different launcher, like adw if thats not the one you use. The Cyanogen guys live for that one before ICS.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I agree with Steve. Try a different launcher as a temp fix. I used to use FTL and it was definitely fast. I enjoyed it for the time.
It isn't a fix, but it is a workaround. Let us know if it works.
My apologies for this semi-dickish response, but why don't you try and reflash the rom before asking for solutions? Reflashing solves 99% of issues and quite frankly, its not that difficult to do so. If and once you're done gone through the "standard procedure" for solving things, and the problem still persists, thats really when you have to post a new thread.
I am unable to find any launcher in the system apps, and I can tell you I recently cleared the "system" entry's defaults (to get tone picker working) and it had no effect.
I learned that gingersnap uses the default touch wiz launcher. I'm not opposed to using a different launcher, obviously I'm willing to flash new software to improve my phones functionality.
I don't know what launcher will improve my phones general performance. I would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks for the help.

I would expect no less from an Aggie.
If your car had a single missing cylinder would you put a new engine in it? No of course not, that isn't fixing anything, it's the sole option for alleviating a problem available to somebody with no technical ability and a demonstration of ignorance of underlying systems.
Reflashing the ROM is not a repair, just another work around and a damn poor one because I would have to re set up my phone.
Since, like me, you're an end user with little too no technical ability with these devices please keep your useless comments to yourself. I'm sure there is some off topic forum you can use to get your post count up. kthanx

Well if its a ROM issue re flashing would be a fix if your previous flash encountered issues during the process and thus gave you problems. A re flash with property installation could alleviate the problem your having.

Unfortunately I did try that and I can tell you that neither clock, digital clock, nor the desk clock have any default settings that can be cleared. Clearing the cache and deleting the app data for those programs had no effect.

Its a phone we're speaking of, not a car. We're not trying to replace the entire motherboard just because a simple application messed up the mapping of your soft keys.
Re-flashing the ROM is more times than not a repair not a work around as you say. Failure to clear the caches correctly or reset the phone to factory settings will often carry over things from other ROM's. As far as re-setting your phone to the way you had it before, thats precisely why nandroid backups exist, not to mention google backup.
I'm quite certain that I have a substantial amount of experience with mobile devices, definitely not to an extraordinary level but yes more than the average end user like yourself. Anything I have learned from these devices has been from trial and error and the compilation of the information already found here on XDA. Not once have I created a single thread inquiring for help regarding issues.
If you wont bother to re-flash your ROM then ultimately that is your decision.

TWLauncher has no defaults you can clear. Clearing the app data did nothing.
Get this. I used ROM manager to fix permissions, it fixed the home button but after a few hours the phone started running terrible. When I rebooted it the home button launched the clock again. lol.
So it's still not fixed.
And on a side note, my wife really loves go-launcher's themes.

That is the dock home. Its supposed to come up when your phone is docked like in the car. I had the same problem on my first sgs2. For some reason my phone thought it was docked and it would always take me to that screen. And if urs is like mine, ur speaker will always be on when u answer a call or make a call. Someone had suggested that cleaning the usb port on the phone fixed it for them, for me it fixed it for like a day but then started messing up again. Lucky for me the screen stopped responding so a few days later and i had a warranty exchange.
Edit: Also if you freeze or unistall the stock clock it will get rid of that home screen, but not the speaker problem, and mine would also just randomly make that little noise it makes like if it was being connected to the charger so the screen would turn on. It would do that all day and would kill my battery.

from experience working with satnavs (on winmo) that use sd card for map storage, i found that some didn't always work with internal storage on the pdas, luckily most of these you were able to put in an sd card anyways - i suspect some apps may need a bit of development work to support this internal storage (different path names etc)
EDIT: not sure if this will be possible on android - but a fix (sometimes) was to rename the internal storage directory to Storage Card (or whatever the name of the SD card would be) and sometimes this would fool the app into thinking there was actually an sd card there, and would then start working correctly.

I found this link through google. Can any kind soul locate the data I would need for this game, for the Galaxy Note? I get the same error 'Nan 0MB of 0MB' and EA are utterly useless as we all know. I have tried the data from the OP and the game actually starts up but all the menu screens are distorted and when the game starts although I can hear the engine roar, I can't see anything 0_o
If anyone can link me to the data I need for the Galaxy Note, that would be brilliant!
Hi guys,
I want to share how I tested Ears (Music Search widget) and Wallet on the Nexus phone I recently purchased directly from Google.
I live in Montreal Canada and use Bell Canada as service provider. Today I went to Bestbuy in Plattsburgh and purchased a T-Mobile SIM card with a one month 30$ prepaid unlimited data plan. I'm going next week to United States for a week vacation and I wanted to have unlimited data available on the road.
My phone is stock, not rooted or CWM installed. The idea was to see if Wallet and any other hidden apps will stay functional when I revert back to Bell SIM card. I use a VPN at home so I have access to all US services (Play Music, etc.) Google offers. After initial JB update done on Bell with VPN enabled for Wi-Fi, the Wallet was hidden and even if Music Search was listed into installed apps, it did not showed into widgets list.
Once the guy at Bestbuy activated my SIM card, I rebooted the phone and voila, Wallet and Ears popped as available. I also noticed another hidden app, Play Magazines. There is nothing fancy about it, it links to magazine subscriptions offered in Google Play.
With T-Mobile SIM card on, I configured Wallet and link it to my Google Apps account, everything worked properly:

}
I also tested the Music Search widget, everything worked properly.
Next, I shut down the phone and switched the SIM card to Bell. When I tried to open Wallet, I was greeted by this message:
However, the Music Search widget continued to work properly while on Bell network:
At least I got Ears working properly, without the rebooting issue others mentioned (the app will lock itself). BTW, no idea why people are referring to "unfreeze/freeze app", there is no such thing in Package Manager commands:
Code:
pm enable PACKAGE_OR_COMPONENT
pm disable PACKAGE_OR_COMPONENT
In conclusion, it sucks to be a Canuck and own a Nexus. Wallet is so awesome and we are prohibited to use it. I was reading on another Canadian mobile site that the usual "mobile" suspects (Bell, Rogers, Telus, etc.) plan create the "Mobile Wallet" app... a poor attempt to emulate Google Wallet in Canada. It will probably have a crazy ugly interface, remember the Visa one that looked like it was coded by a 5 years old kid. Anything they can do to stop users take advantage to a cool product like Google Wallet and get rich by pocketing the fees Google would otherwise.
Man I wish Google wallet was working in Canada would make things so much easier.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Wallet fails to add money using my Canadian credit card that has a US billing address. Another "V" for canucks. :victory:
I'll buy a sandwich at McDonald's with the $10 I have not, just for kicks. Not sure I can afford a combo, heh.
Wish they would enable wallet over here in the UK, but I bet the carriers was to implement some solution of their own as always.

How do you do it natively?

Just wanted to share my experience with Google Ears.
I flashed yakju 4.0.2 a way back (it came with yakjuxw). 4.0.4 came via OTA and I manually flashed JB (the 4.1.1 version). The phone is only unlocked and rooted. I'm in Croatia and I've never had an issue with Google Ears. I put the widget on my screen the first day I found it and the app never froze after a reboot. Curious, huh?

Not sure what "natively" is referring to but let me see if I can expand on this comment.
Many apps come installed as part of the phone. These are called system apps. What you install are called user apps. When you go to uninstall apps, you can only remove user apps.
If you root you phone, you can take advantage of an app like Titanium Backup. One of many great function is that you can freeze or even uninstall system apps with it. It is recommended that you freeze the app first before permanently removing it. Freezing an app make is invisible to the phone, even though the files are still there. Unfreezing the app just makes it visible again.
So, you can freeze Wallet and it won't bug you, and then you can unfreeze it next time you go on vacation to USA.
There is not a lot of use for Wallet in the US at the moment, at least not with NFC. As to your $30 unlimited data plan, you realize your 4G is capped, right?

How does "freezing" or "defrosting" work? How does Titanium do it? What property does it change in the app so that it is frozen or defrosted? I would like to be able to do this without Titanium.

You can use adb to issue the commands OP wrote in the first post: "pm enable /system/app/GoogleEars.apk"
I think that's the syntax.
Maybe some script at boot with a kernel that supports init.d folder I assume.
Cheers!

Strange. I tried that with Wallet and it didn't work. I'll give it another shot. Thanks.

Is there any way to get Google Ears to work in Finland? :/ somehow titanium ROM Toolbox cannot find the google music widget app so I can't unfreeze it and also Google Music Player doesn't show music information sometimes.. :/
even by using DroidVPN I can't install or update Google Ears via Google Play..

Ya, they have a 5Gb limit, if that is what you are referring to. I should "survive" with it for a week.
I don't care about download speed, I just want to be able to read my emails and use Google Now.

Yes, that is what I used to do on my Galaxy S2. I always used a terminal as is much easier to control and see what is going on, on your phone.

You could also install a recent .apk, it will make the Wallet show. Then, revert the update to previous version and Wallet will remain visible. It will not work though, you will see the error popup message I posted into OP.

No I don't have, maybe the Google Ears app was unusable because I couldn't be able to install it again, so I searched the app from google and I found it then I installed it and it works now..
I used DroidVPN to update Google Music and I deforst the google apps then I installed them again from /system/app/ but I think some of those files will be gone again when I reboot my Galaxy Nexus because once them was on my phone 2 or 3 days but then suddenly them was gone I rebooted my Nexus many times then and I installed the google apps from system/apps so I din't defrost them with any app..

Just to let you know, Music Search works properly for me even if I reboot the phone on Bell network.
There is something weird though. When I find the song, if I click on the widget it will try to open the Play Store app then move to Chrome browser instead. Does anyone else has the same issue?

OK.. have you selected sometimes "every time" when it's asking that with what app you want to open the link? I don't have that issue so I don't really know how to fix it..
Delete Chrome and then install it again maybe then it's fixed..

So you are telling me that when you click on the found song image, it will open Play Store for you?
I did not selected to have Chrome open anything by default, I always use the choice once.
Play Store shows only Apps on my phone, yours shows other stuff also?

The enable/disable button in Android since ICS is what I meant by native, which is using the pm commands on the back end as mentioned in this thread

Okay.., I select "choose once" always too and I have installed Google Chrome what I don't even use but for me it opens Google Play Store..
So I'm on JellyBro right now and so far so good.
Just recently (meaning today), when I access the Camera folder in Gallery, it suddenly closes the app. So I decided to use QuickPic, which, for the most part works fine. Except that lately it stutters quite bad when swiping images. Does anybody else have a lag? Or are you smooth?
I wanted to look into the issue of the Gallery closing since I'm not happy with QuickPic's performance. Did a nandroid backup, wipe, then flashed the latest Jellybro again. This time I ran into the common JB issue - none of my SD media contents appear in gallery or music player. QuickPic, still lagging. AND, connecting it via USB to my laptop did not show any content either. Very strange.
I contacted the QuickPic's developer and quite frankly he's a bit of a prick. On the app description, here's what it says: ...if you find any issue, before you post useless comments or rating, please try to send email to me, I will help you to fix it
Here's the transcript of our little powwow, a glimpse of his 'helping hand' -
Me: "I'm currently on a Galaxy Nexus, and still find that swiping pictures still has a lag, the removal of the fade effect did not help at all. Enabling Hardware GPU rendering does not help either.
In fact I found that V2.4.0 and 2.4.3 performed slightly better for some reason...
Is there anything you could do?"
Him (or her): The only one thing I can do now is take a long rest...
Me: .... What? This does not answer the question. Are you even going to look into it?
Him (or her): Yes, I will, but not now, I even don't have a Galaxy Nexus, so how can I "look into it"? Every one have a rest time, right?
Needless to say it was clear that contacting him directly didn't help. Very unprofessional.
I restored my nandroid backup again, and all my contents are back, but with same old issues as before.
So to summarise I encountered 4 main issues here:
1. Gallery - Camera folder closes app. (not FC as there's no message saying "unfortunately the app has stopped responding...)
2. QuickPic swiping lag (more than my previous Incredible S)
3. SD card content not being recognised in stock apps on clean flash install. (also had this issue with JB rom on Incredible S. Seems to be a JB issue across the board.)
4. SD content will not show up on computer when connected via USB (on clean flash of latest nightly). The device is recognised, but no content is shown.
If anyone can help address these issues, it would be appreciated. Cheers!
Update: I replied to the developer saying that he wasn't being helpful, and that I was doing him a favour but contacting him directly instead of giving negative feedback. He replied by saying:
"If you think "negative comments" will help me get a Galaxy Nexus, just do it!" (as in, just leave the negative feedback)
Clearly this guy seriously just doesn't give a ****. And his constant use of "quotation marks" rubs me the wrong way.

Its a cool rom, and that's weird I haven't had any problems with quick pic ever and I've been using it a long time

I tried out, Rassbean, didn't like it as much as as the others.
I relocked my phone, unlocked and rooted it again, now the gallery issue seems to be fixed. But QuickPic is still stuttering.
Is anyone else having issues with the gallery and looking thru pics? Mine is REALLY slow and unresponsive. Often FC's bc of unresponsiveness. If I clear cache it works fine the next launch, but after that its the same thing. Other than that everything is super smooth and fast.
Anyone else with this issue??
Thanks
No issue with my gallery. Everything is working fine.

I had this issue after I rooted the phone and deleted some bloatwares. Gallery was working fine until I deleted something. Don't remember what bloatwares I deleted though. So I installed custom rom and gallery working perfect again. Must be some kind of bloatwares I deleted that messed up the gallery.
I had the same issue even from stock everything when i first put in my sdcard. There was a few corrupted pictures which was making the gallery not load anything right.
Gallery issue
I discovered the issue: in Gallery menu, choose View by, and choose Content in device. The gallery works normally after that.
The problem is that when you close the gallery and reopens you have to do the same. The Gallery doesn't keep the setting...
Does anybody know how to do keep the setting permanently?
Sorry for bad english.

Yea. I am aware of that. I couldn't find a resolution, so downloaded "Quickpic" from play store. It's an alternate gallery and is free. Works like a charm.
I can't believe Samsung/Tmobile doesn't check these things.

The only issues I have is that it won't sync my Google+ photo albums, even though it's setup to do so.
I had issues like this before on the GS2 and a few times when I first got my GN2. The GN2 was right out of the box and it loaded up gallery really slow and lagging, until the point where the gallery give my a GALLERY NOT RESPONDING message. I found out that the photos that lag, take forever to load or doesnt load at all are the ones on my external SD card. I tried to add more photos to the External SD to see what happen and most of the time not all the photos copy over and errors with the card. I did a SD card format using the phone and put all the photos back on, it works just fine now. No more lag, no more errors and photos are loading fast. If youre also using external SD to store your photos like me, then maybe this is the same problem you're having, but if you're on an internal memory storage then I dont know. =) Just a memory card issue and require quick format for me.
