So I'm on JellyBro right now and so far so good.
Just recently (meaning today), when I access the Camera folder in Gallery, it suddenly closes the app. So I decided to use QuickPic, which, for the most part works fine. Except that lately it stutters quite bad when swiping images. Does anybody else have a lag? Or are you smooth?
I wanted to look into the issue of the Gallery closing since I'm not happy with QuickPic's performance. Did a nandroid backup, wipe, then flashed the latest Jellybro again. This time I ran into the common JB issue - none of my SD media contents appear in gallery or music player. QuickPic, still lagging. AND, connecting it via USB to my laptop did not show any content either. Very strange.
I contacted the QuickPic's developer and quite frankly he's a bit of a prick. On the app description, here's what it says: ...if you find any issue, before you post useless comments or rating, please try to send email to me, I will help you to fix it
Here's the transcript of our little powwow, a glimpse of his 'helping hand' -
Me: "I'm currently on a Galaxy Nexus, and still find that swiping pictures still has a lag, the removal of the fade effect did not help at all. Enabling Hardware GPU rendering does not help either.
In fact I found that V2.4.0 and 2.4.3 performed slightly better for some reason...
Is there anything you could do?"
Him (or her): The only one thing I can do now is take a long rest...
Me: .... What? This does not answer the question. Are you even going to look into it?
Him (or her): Yes, I will, but not now, I even don't have a Galaxy Nexus, so how can I "look into it"? Every one have a rest time, right?
Needless to say it was clear that contacting him directly didn't help. Very unprofessional.
I restored my nandroid backup again, and all my contents are back, but with same old issues as before.
So to summarise I encountered 4 main issues here:
1. Gallery - Camera folder closes app. (not FC as there's no message saying "unfortunately the app has stopped responding...)
2. QuickPic swiping lag (more than my previous Incredible S)
3. SD card content not being recognised in stock apps on clean flash install. (also had this issue with JB rom on Incredible S. Seems to be a JB issue across the board.)
4. SD content will not show up on computer when connected via USB (on clean flash of latest nightly). The device is recognised, but no content is shown.
If anyone can help address these issues, it would be appreciated. Cheers!
Update: I replied to the developer saying that he wasn't being helpful, and that I was doing him a favour but contacting him directly instead of giving negative feedback. He replied by saying:
"If you think "negative comments" will help me get a Galaxy Nexus, just do it!" (as in, just leave the negative feedback)
Clearly this guy seriously just doesn't give a ****. And his constant use of "quotation marks" rubs me the wrong way.

I tried out, Rassbean, didn't like it as much as as the others.
I relocked my phone, unlocked and rooted it again, now the gallery issue seems to be fixed. But QuickPic is still stuttering.

Hi
After rooting, I observed that 3 apps - Call Logs Backup & Restore (com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore), Zipcar (com.zc.android), and S2 Calendar Widget (com.byte256.calendarwidget), have their screens squeezed to the lower left quardrant. (see attachments. The 4th one is S2 Calendar Widget launched from the drawer.)
I vaguely remember that Call Log Backup behaved just fine before I rooted/fastboot oem unlock the Galaxy Nexus with Modaco's Superboot r3. But I don't want to go through the trouble of unroot/fastboot lock after setting up all my apps.
I suspect if I change the pixel density maybe they'll show themselves. But LCDDensity for Root has no effect.
I know this is an obscure problem so if you can try these 3 apps out and see if the problem is isolated on my phone only, that'd be great too!
go to the developers options in the settings and turn off forced gpu rendering.

Hello all,
I'm been a very happy Nexus user since I bought my phone in January. I've never experience any problems with the hardware or software until now. I noticed today that when I am in the stock camera app and slide over to view my pictures the app crashes/FC. I'm not sure when it started happening, again noticed today, but it did used to work fine before. I don't use my camera all that often so it's not a huge deal but since I am 100% stock + root I expect the stock apps to work fine.
Has anyone else's phone doing this? I tried restarting to no avail. YouTube video coming up! I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere. If so can someone kindly redirect me to the thread?

Never happened to me. Did you try clearing the Gallery's cache/data?

Hmm... while waiting for the video to upload to YouTube I did more testing and I think I have it figured out. I took a picture last week and rotated it counter-clock wise using QuickPic. When opening this particular picture in QuickPic everything works as expected but when I open the same picture using the stock gallery app the app crashes. So I guess the way QuickPic saved the picture (corrupted?) is making the stock gallery app bug out. Anyone else care to try to see if you can recreate the crash?

Can't see your image (broken link?)
This is a longshot, but you could try deleting the folder /sdcard/android/data/com.google.android.gallery3d
This will remove the Gallery's cache file so it will recreate it from scratch. I'm not sure if the clear cache command actually wipes the file or simply empties it.

I've had this probelm. I encountered it when I was trying to change the picture size. For some reason it wasn't too happy when I was making my pics smaller. What I did to fix it was ckear the data in the gallery app.

-Clear data
Then I rebooted and I didn't have any problems. Hope this helps you out.

Did anyone have the slow gallery problem on Galaxy Note II? Specially when changing wallpapers using the settings. Is there any solution to it?
My gallery has suddenly gotten extremely slow too. Started yesterday. Tried clearing the gallery cache but that didn't help. I did some searching and haven't found a solution yet. If I do I'll let you know.

Mines been like it for ages, slow to the point of unusable, searched and searched but no solution at all, its really annoying now, tried differant Kernels and rom's but no luck.
Through Settings/Application Manager/All/Gallery I cleared the cache. I then used a file manager (Total Commander) to manually delete the .thumbmails directory. I also turned Facebook Gallery syncing through Settings/Accounts/Facebook.
My phone automatically rebuilt the thumbnails and after maybe half a day Gallery sped up to it' usual speed.
haven't noticed any problems on my end, seems to be as fast as day 1
John
Mine is slow as ****e as well. I assumed it was something to do with the Facebook galleries.
I use Quickpic though instead.
ETA: lbloo's solution worked for me although I had to clear data rather than just cache on mine.

After factory reset gallery speed improved. But still selecting a wallpaper from gallery by long pressing the homescreen is toooo slow.
I was also having a horrendous experience with the Gallery, the page would always jump up to the top and be extremely slow to load.
Solution: I used Titanium Backup to freeze the "AllShare Service", now it's all smooth!

This did the trick, AllShare is apparently trying to look at the photos to do something with with the "Change player" option, disable Allshare (which is useless anyway IMO as it's far too slow) and it sorts it out, gallery is MUCH faster and the multi-second hangs are totally gone.
AllshareCast keeps working which I actually _do_ use.
Hopefully Samsung will fix this in the future to make it useful, but for now, disabling AllShare with TB does the job.
I don't have this issue with my phone but I don't either keep more than 300 pics or video in my gallery. But I use to clear gallery data through sdmaid app

All times work good for me... I am always on Perseus Kernel...
Hi there.
I thought my only issue with the Note 2 was the driver issues some are experiencing. Now that I avoid it by plugging into my Win7 machine, rather than my Vista machine, that problem is no more.
But recently another issue I thought was minor is really starting to aggravate me now. For some reason, ever since Jelly Bean came around (even on my G-Nexus) I have had issues with default apps saving.
For example, when browsing either using Chrome or the stock Internet browser, I select an IMdB link and a pop up window appears asking what default app I would like to address these link types. I select the IMdB app, and ALWAYS.....then a window pops up showing how to clear defaults which I have to hit: OK. So all in all, I have to hit 3 or 4 more buttons after selecting a link.
The next time I select an IMdB link, I have to do the process all over again......meaning Android is not saving my selected default apps. I thought it might be app specific, but this issue is happening with nearly any default I select. It also doesn't have to be a reboot that wipes my choices......it just never remembers. Same with YouTube, and other apps I choose for defaults.....they don't stick.
The only defaults that work are some non-Google/system based app to app default choices. By this I mean, in ES File Explorer, if I select a default video player, image viewer, text viewer, or audio player they stick. Meaning, if I pick an image while in ES, QuickPic automatically opens. A video, MXPlayer opens etc.
The issue only seems to happen with system or google apps, but is consistent. This problem is getting very annoying, and my google searches over the last couple days have yielded me nothing helpful.
My question is this, has anyone seen this before, and if so do they have a possible workaround or solution they could suggest? Thank you much, in advance.
I have the same issue and started a thread for it... I didn't get any answers

Hmmmm. Thats not the news I wanted to hear lol. Ive managed to work around my problem a little by installing Default App Manager Pro and then installing Opera mobile and setting it as default browser app. I get far fewer pop ups and at least the imdb page on Opera is close to the app. As well, if I search something and it goes to a YouTube link it first goes to the browser page but as soon as I touch the video to play it, the YouTube app opens. Not perfect but far better than being asked to set defaults EVERY time I search the internet, then having my defaults ignored and asked again.....and again.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
Is using that app the only solution for this?
I got my wife a Note 2 yesterday, and each time we've rebooted it, it forgets what we chose for the default app, going back to the stock launcher, and no longer using SwiftKey by default.
Each and every time... re-selecting the things she wants... Quite aggravating.
I never had this issue on my S3
I'm wondering if you have installed custom roms or mods. If so, have you tried going to recovery manager and running :fix permissions:? My thinking is that maybe it's trying to write to a read only file and failing silently. Thus the next time it reads default apps, there are no defined preferences.
I don't know for sure that's even the case, but it would make sense logically on any system.

Right now, it's happening to be on a brand new vanilla Note 2
Is rooting my phone and nuking the default .apk's the only option to fix this problem?
Hate to bump an old thread, but I'm having the exact same issue. Every time I reboot all of my default apps disappear and I have to choose them again. They seem to last for the entire session. Stock rom but rooted.

Same here....6 week old Note 2, not rooted. It is saving virtually no default programs...not the launcher, the browser, not documents. Seems that if there are more than one app that COULD open a file, Note 2 will ask for the preferred app, regardless of whether a default had been previously saved / set or not.
Bummer. I did try using a "Default App Manager", went through the process of setting my selected defaults...made absolutely no difference at all!
Judi
If you are on a custom ROM I do not know what to tell you. If you are on stock each time you install or uninstall an app that will perform an action when you click on something the Note will ask if you want to do it once or always. So if you install a new browser and you click on a link it will ask which browser you want to use. If you then uninstall a browser the next time you click on a link you will be asked again. If you are being asked more than that then there is a problem somewhere. If a factory reset does not work and you are still under warranty I would call and find out if that is something that is covered. I wish I knew off hand which app keeps track of your defaults then you could just clear that app and see if that helps.
This is happening on my stock galaxy s4 for t-mobile.. app defaults are not saving. I think it's a broader problem than just the note 2.
Wondering if anyone has found a solution or made any progress????

Hi. My phone (on Stock unrooted 4.1.2, didn't upgrade to 4.2.2 for no reason) has recently become very, very slow. I guess the reason for that is that I recently copied an MKV movie to it. Ever since I did that, it has been dead slow. Even though I have deleted it now, the sluggishness still persists. There's nothing else that I did (ever since this problem started), and please note, my phone was blazing fast before this, so I don't expect suggestions to flash a new ROM or kernel (because I'm a noob when it comes to flashing ROMs and stuff, and I will have so many more problems doing so). I think my phone can go back to the state on stock ROM and kernel.
Another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988233) mentions the same problem, I've found out that I have the exact same problem. My phone wasn't sluggish before I copied the movie. But now that I have removed it, the phone is stil slow and sluggish*
* what does it mean when i say "slow and sluggish":
- pressing the lock button doesn't turn the screen on, i have to do it a couple of times
- apps take longer to load
- widgets don't load (most of them)
- everything that you can imagine (swiping, sliding, etc) is slow.
Help, please. Thanks in advance.
Clear the cache of the video player application that you tried to play the video with. That may help. Go into settings>apps>downloaded>your video app>clear cache.
If it's the Gallery, go into all applications instead of downloaded.

It may be caused by installing too many RAM-hogging apps, if you're rooted you can try using Greenify from the play store and see if that helps.

I didn't copy the movie for playing, I copied it to transfer it somewhere else. And I've cleared cache of the video player MX Player just to be sure, and uninstalled it. Still no use.
One more thing. Apps are not responding, even stock apps. Once I open an app, it takes forever to load, and the message pops up: "<app> is not responding, would you like to stop it?" with the options "wait, stop, report".
All this has started ever since I copied that movie to my phone. Before that, it was blazing fast, no RAM hogging apps or anything.
