Hi. My phone (on Stock unrooted 4.1.2, didn't upgrade to 4.2.2 for no reason) has recently become very, very slow. I guess the reason for that is that I recently copied an MKV movie to it. Ever since I did that, it has been dead slow. Even though I have deleted it now, the sluggishness still persists. There's nothing else that I did (ever since this problem started), and please note, my phone was blazing fast before this, so I don't expect suggestions to flash a new ROM or kernel (because I'm a noob when it comes to flashing ROMs and stuff, and I will have so many more problems doing so). I think my phone can go back to the state on stock ROM and kernel.
Another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988233) mentions the same problem, I've found out that I have the exact same problem. My phone wasn't sluggish before I copied the movie. But now that I have removed it, the phone is stil slow and sluggish*
* what does it mean when i say "slow and sluggish":
- pressing the lock button doesn't turn the screen on, i have to do it a couple of times
- apps take longer to load
- widgets don't load (most of them)
- everything that you can imagine (swiping, sliding, etc) is slow.
Help, please. Thanks in advance.
Clear the cache of the video player application that you tried to play the video with. That may help. Go into settings>apps>downloaded>your video app>clear cache.
If it's the Gallery, go into all applications instead of downloaded.

It may be caused by installing too many RAM-hogging apps, if you're rooted you can try using Greenify from the play store and see if that helps.

I didn't copy the movie for playing, I copied it to transfer it somewhere else. And I've cleared cache of the video player MX Player just to be sure, and uninstalled it. Still no use.
One more thing. Apps are not responding, even stock apps. Once I open an app, it takes forever to load, and the message pops up: "<app> is not responding, would you like to stop it?" with the options "wait, stop, report".
All this has started ever since I copied that movie to my phone. Before that, it was blazing fast, no RAM hogging apps or anything.
How about you try to save all your pics/files you have on your phone, and do a factory reset? I know that's the highest you will go, but still worth a shot!

This a known issue. The solution is to root the phone (NRT) and run LagFix (fstream). Android 4.3 has fstream already built in.

I've gotten a couple PM's that people love the ROM, and I plan on making a EC07-Nuckin-2 package.
My thoughts thus far:
New Kernel (imnuts)
Scribble boot animation
Zeam Launcher to replace TouchWiz (Zeam is super memory efficient)
Dolphin Mini to replace Browser
Better instructions, including a TAR to use with Odin
Link to alternate framework-res.apk (trailblazer's) to restore the buttons
What do you think would make this ROM cooler/faster/awesome...er?

I flashed this rom a few days ago, and so far it is great. I love how clean and fast it is.
The only problems I have had are some issues it apps FCing. I use these apps daily and was wondering if anybody has had any luck fixing FC problems? I would hate to do it, but if I can't get these apps working right I might have to reflash DL17 again.
Here are some of the apps I have come across so far that FC every time:
-Wells Fargo Mobile
-Stock Android Browser
-Movies
I am sure there are other, but these are the only ones that I have found so far that I use on a regular basis. If anybody has any insight on this it would be great.

I had the same problem with Browser, I just switched to Dolphin Mini HD but I understand you can't really do that with the other 2 apps you listed. Is it just my ROM you've had this issue with or all EC03 and EC07 ROMs?
I've had the same issue. It's been with all versions of ec07 though. some ec03 as well (if memory serves me correctly) I swapped to dolphin browser and haven't had any trouble.

Can I assume you wiped dalvik on install? If so, I'd start by clearing data on each of the affected apps in settings/applications/manage applications. And if that fails, try deleting the apps themselves, along with any data stored on SD card and reinstall fresh. Generally fc issues are due to the way the app interacts with the system.

Yeah, the browser is not that big of a deal, I switched to Opera and like it alot better than stock anyway. I ran the clean EC07 first before I switched to your rom, but I only had it on for a couple of hours so I don't know if that one had the FC issues as well. I don't think there is enough difference between the two to cause these issues. Yours is just more debloated.

Yes, I wiped cache, dalvik cache, and did factory reset/wipe data before I installed the rom, then wiped the caches again after just to be sure. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling all the apps I was having problems with. I will try clearing the app data and removing data from SD card tonight and let yall know if anything changes.
---------- Post added at 09:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:12 PM ----------
Ok, tried clearing data, uninstalling, wiping SD card, and reinstalling apps. Didn't work, they are all three still FCing. I think it has something to do with them accessing network/data. Browser doesn't FC until I try to load a page, Wells Fargo doesn't FC until I try to log in, and Flixter movies FCs as soon as I open it. All thee times they are trying to use network. Doesn't matter if I am on 3G for Wifi.
Just a thought, I don't know if that actually has anything to do with it.
One more thought, is it possible to have your phone hooked up to ADB in usb debugging while running an app to see why it is getting a force close?

Yes. As circa said, logcat
Commands are as follows
Adb shell
(it will start daemon. Once that is done, you will get a hashtag)
Logcat
(wait for it to scroll, then after it settles down, start the affected app)

Just to let people know, I'm a relative noob to Android in general and particularly to this site, so have some patience.
My wife's Samsung Galaxy S 4g's screen broke, so she got the T989 as a replacement. After doing some research, it seems that Titanium Backup was the recommended way to move data over. So, I needed to educate myself on how to do that. The original phone was easy and I did the backup. The S II was less easy and after spending way too much time on the i9100 forum, I found out I was in the wrong place.
So, anyways, got her phone jailbroken and ran TB on it to restore. Unfortunately, it seems to be the beginning of my problems. Phone app didn't work. Cleared data there, which she lost her contacts. TWLauncher throws errors. Clear data there as well. Messaging hasn't worked either, and it seems to be the solution is to wipe the whole thing. I also can't seem to browse the file system via USB.
What am I doing wrong here? All I wanted to do was to move everything over from the old phone to the new one, but it seems I bought trouble.
You are reporting a back up from a completely different phone. Restoring data will often cause things to go funny. It's usually recommended to simply restore the app and nothing more. I would recommend just resetting the phone back to stock, full wipe and don't restore anything. See how it functions initially, then once you think things are going well, just start to restore apps.
 cheers

It's going to depend on the app really. Some apps don't play well with some roms. I've backed up games and restored to current roms and been fine, while others didn't restore correctly. Trial and error my friend, trial and error.

Hello.
I have posted this in the forums at Android Central and only got one response. I've had my phone since Feb of this year. Since 11/2 there is major lag. No issues on 11/1. Taps on the home screen are continuously being read as long presses. My lock screen is really laggy, as are home screens and most apps. Bad piggies for whatever reason is working just fine. Most other apps including the keyboard are very laggy. It just seems to be very slow to respond to touch all of a sudden. My phone is rooted stock GB. At AC, I was told an app was hogging RAM. I downloaded Memory Useage from the google play store but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm still getting that lady after killing and uninstalling apps. The lag is still there with the native launcher so I really don't think it has anything to do with GO Launcher. I used TiB to revert GOL back to the previous version. I also uninstalled GOLocker as well. I've done a soft reset but it didn't help.
Is there a way to see my Play update history so I can see which apps installed that night? I've always had the occasional lag but it wasn't ever really a big deal. This is greatly interfering with my use of the phone. I am lucky to type a word before the keyboard disappears. Low resources makes sense but I just can't figure out what app is hogging them.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of resting back to unrooted GB to upgrade to stock ICS.
The first app in the my apps list is the most recent one. So start uninstalling from the top.. Now if you had installed an app say 2 months ago, uninstalled it a month ago and then reinstalled it today then it won't show at the top of the list. It will be still at that same spot where it was 2 months ago. So keep in mind if you reinstalled some app.
Also you should uninstall apps from applications in settings so you can clear cache and data for that app. Or you restart after each uninstall.

This is so frustrating. In the Play Store App, my "Installed" list is alphabetical and the "All" list is listed by install order with the most recent at the top regardless of timestamp of update. I cannot see any option for changing the order. Should I just go by the TiB list? It is showing the apps in order of update and lets me clear cache and uninstall the apps.

Now I have removed all apps updated on 11/2 or overnight from the evening of 11/1. The only one I can't touch is Kies. I have frozen it with TiB but I'm still getting the super heavy lag. What can I do next? Do I need to just reset the whole device now and start from scratch?
This is really frustrating. I love my phone and haven't had it long enough to switch to something else. Are there any tests that I can perform to check on the screen itself?
I have also installed OS Monitor and the top apps using up the CPU are OS Monitor, SYstem, Google Play Movies & TV, Android System, gzip. THe % used varies from 0% up to 26% they may last only a second or two. Is there something wrong with my phone? I feel like I've exhausted finding a resource hog.
If you have a custom recovery installed then do a nandroid backup and flash a fresh install of something to test it. If its not broke in the test then you can restore tour backup and continue to troubleshoot. Honestly though its easy enough to just start fresh. I do it every few days/weeks on a new rom.
Heck at this point flash something ICS or even JB. I can't think of a reason to ever use a GB rom again.

Hi guys. Do I really need a root on n2 ? I would not be using most of it features anyway. I was searching for good room all the time on my desire z... this is the thing with roms, that no rom is ever perfect.
so. If I care for slow motion video, all of camera featrures and overall quality of camera and experience, do I need to root anyway ? I am liking it very much as it is out of the box.
Another question. I am using ftp app and filezilla to copy files between the n2 and pc. But with filezilla I can enter any file on the phone outside in that 16gb internal memory space. (I am talkinga bout 5gb of system files).
Now I am worried that i could delete or move some files by accident in filezilla. Would factory reset help and restore everything on stock ?
Basically.
Do I need root, If i am a heavy camera user ?
Does factory reset restores internal 16gb storage, or to be more accurate, system files. (dont have sd card) and how to perform real out of the box like factory reset.
I have this phone for 2 days and I am loving it. My dream came true cheers and thanks for any tips.
You probably don't need root. I rooted mine but to be quite honest I don't make a lot of use of root features. The device is pretty cool without root.
I'd suggest that you leave it until you find that "one thing" that really needs root.
l rooted my Note 10.1 as well- Same applies
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app
If your device doesn't have latest 4.1.2 rom then earliest update it rather than root, it is much needed.
Btw if you factory reset, you will lose all data on internal storage too.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
For me, I need root.. I don't like the stock ROM, many ROM out there are awesome to use..
First time I got my note 2, I was excited and I thought stock rom was like the best and I thought other ROM are just bad..
I tried like 2 - 3 then I liked them a lot so I started switching between ROMs and yea.. Now, I can't really use the stock..
For you, if you really only use it for camera, you don't need to root..
However, some ROMs like Omega ROM or ARHD and many others, has impressive battery life, I got 9 hours of display time and got many features..
If you want to know, try it your self
Install custom recovery (TWRP) and discover ROMs safely
Yea factory reset deletes everything in your internal memory..
So I recommend an external SD Card
Sent from my GT-N7100
Thanks for answers. So I think I will not root for now but I might fallow developement topic for interesting concepts.
for now I am very happy with stock 4.1.2 and battery life is fantastic. Btw. Charger makes weird sounds when in outlet by itself... like if something was loose inside but its not because sound stops soon after disconnecting charger from wall outlet.. And pitch noise when charging but that I consider normal.
I am still unclear about factory reset. I know I will lose al my data from that 10gb available to use. My question is, will factory reset restore anything on that rest 5gb system hidden partition in case I will get a virus or accidentally delete something with ftp filezilla? Thats because whole 16gb can be explored via wifi ftp way.
ANyway. The device is stunning and its just 3rd day of discovering it secrets
Factory reset bring your device to state when you got out of box, that's simplest answer.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
This is why it's called factory reset
I don't think you need any ROM.I also have an un-rooted stock 4.1.2 Note 2 ,Nova Launcher some widgets with UCCW and Swiftkey are enough for me.Battery life is very good on 4.1.2 just the same as 4.1.1 ,I had both versions.I get about 5:30 hours of screen ON maximum brightness ,screen ON ALL the time ,playing Modern Combat 4 and heavy browsing and YouTube.Impressive.
OK thanks for answerws.
Can I root and keep stock firmware and have factory reset working ?
If official update comes out I will not be able to use ota update when rooted right ?
Also. How to improve battery stats ? I am getting about 5-6 screen on time. (which is giid anyway)
one more. How to debloat? I have retail device so only samsung useless chaton, samsung apps etc are on. I removed all updates for those etc and just disabled notifications. Oh also - I cant seem to find general topic about optimizing everything on n2. is there anything like that ?
Hi guys, I'm writing in desperate need of help.
I've had this GNex for a little less than 2 years and it always worked great until January when I started to have a lot of problems and bringing it to the technical center at the end of March I found out it had major hardware problems, but luckly I still had the warranty back then.
Now, since more or less 3 weeks, it started out of the blue to have great slowing down problems: apps take a lot to open and are often unresponsive and when I tap the power button it takes up to 5 seconds to start the screen.
I don't have a lor of apps, but uninstalling some of them it seemed like it's a little faster.
BTW, if it matters, I've never flashed alternative ROMs, I've always been on stock, and now it's not even rooted.
Is there something that I can do without factory resetting?
I'd prefer to keep it as the last possible option, 'cause I've not much time in this period and it would be a mess having to install again all the apps and stuff.
Thanks
I've heard that our GNEX makes problems with less than 3 GB of free space . Look how much memory are still available on SD card.
Sorry for my English.
Having almost 8gb free I doubt this is the problem

whats installed? have you updated/installed anything recently? do you have social media apps running all the time? have you cleared caches from apps/recovery? check your memory usage. use an app like Smart Booster to clean up the RAM.
there are also SO many advantages to at LEAST rooting the device.

As soon as I'll have some time, hopefully this afternoon, I'll check all those things, thanks.
For the rooting thing I didn't do it just because I still haven't had time, I plan to do it in the future.
Talking about advantages are you talking in general or also about this specific issue?

well aside from the obvious (flashing/backups/unlocking) there are loads of useful apps in the Play Store that require root to help optimize the Android system. My favorites are Root Uninstaller and Disable Service. now, i know what im doing with these apps so they suit my needs pretty well and i havent broken anything (yet) but they are quite self explanitory. they both do pretty much the same thing, but on a different scale.
Root Uninstaller does just that...it allows you to uninstall ANYTHING from your device, including system apps that you normally wouldnt be able to. it also allows you to freeze apps or convert user apps (apps YOU installed) to system apps (this is very situational). it also reads your sdcard (internal in the case of the GNex) and finds apk's and can install them as well.
Disable Service is pretty much an advanced version of Root Uninstaller. it allows you to freeze/uninstall apps with the added ability to freeze any PROCESS that an app might run. for example, you could completely disable Bluetooth functionality (meaning any time you try to turn it on it just wont) or you can disable just Bluetooth file transfer. its really handy for showing what processes are running in the background and how many of them are from one app/how many that app can run. so, say you dont use an app feature but you still the app. fine, disable just that feature. its not TOO terribly complicated to understand as long as you know what does what, but hopefully i described it well enough.
basically what im getting at is these apps can free up so much memory/RAM by disabling/uninstalling apps or processes that run in the background when you just dont want them to with the ability to unlock them when you do.
then there is Titanium Backup. if you dont know what this app is, or never heard of it, you must live under some damn large rocks lol
lastly, using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit you can root your phone in quite literally 30 seconds...just sayin >_<

Yeah, I well know that, before I had to bring it to the technical service it was rooted.
Thanks for the suggestions, while I know very well Titanium (it saved mt life more than once), I've never heard of the other apps you mentioned, so I'll try them.
I just runned Smart Booster and I'm totally amazed, the phone is way smoother, I hope it'll last.
I think that now I'll root time, I just have one last question: if I well remember to root I need to have the phone unlocked (the tech service locked it again), will it wipe it?

Glad it worked for ya ^_^
No it shouldn't wipe your phone, also unlocking the bootloader isn't required for root
Great, can you link me a guide to root it without unlocking? The nexus toolkit wants me to unlock before rooting, so I have to go for another way...

Ah, OK. There ISNT a method of rooting without unlocking the bootloader on 4.3/4.4 and sadly it will reset the phone, but it will not wipe the SD data
Lol, that's ok, I just need to wait when I'll have some time to backup some things and do the whole thing, thank you dragonhart you've been very helpful

Hey no problem!
I been fixing/flashing/porting this thing for about a year. I've got so many phones in my office (including S5/One M8/iphones) this still the one I pick up and play with as my DD. I can understand why you would want it to run at its top performance!

Unlocking the bootloader will wipe everything on the phone. Use helium to backup apps and then backup everything to your computer.

Yes unlocking bootloader to root has always been the only way for Nexus devices and it will definitely wipe everything!
