After flashing a new AOKP, my lady friend's phone will not connect to the computer. The computer says that the device is unrecognizable (she has installed the drivers multiple times and it worked a few minutes before). When I flashed it for her, it actually blue screened my computer..as soon as I plugged it in, but that could be unrelated because it's not doing that to hers.
I have gotten her to flash multiple roms, but nothing is bringing back USB support. Since there is no USB, she can't Odin. I am going to look at it later this week, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.
Thank you!

I have wrestled with this phone, and searching this forum and others looking for an answer and none have been found yet. Here's my situation.
I own two HTC DINC2's. My wife's wouldn't power on. Talked with Verizion Tech Support and they led me into HBOOT to try to clear cache, then to factory reset. After each attempt I get the HTC White Screen, then nothing. I must pull the battery out to reboot. We took it to a Verizon store, and they said there was nothing they could do. (grumble)
When I plug in my phone to my computer, I get no USB support. Windows 7 says the USB device has malfunctioned. So most directions to root or flash the firmware instructions are of no help. The phone will also not charge. When I plug it in, I get the amber light for about 30 seconds, then it shuts off.
HBOOT menu reads as follows...
**** LOCKED ****
VIVO_W XB SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.98.0000
RADIO -1.09.01.0312

I have formatted the SDCard and tried a new PG32IMG.zip file. It will load, but the result is the same. I have tried this with a completely different SD Card, with the same result.
Is there anything else I can try, or is Verizon right...I have a paperweight...??
I would probably replace the Charging port
Sent from my HTC Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I take it that the phones are not on warranty anymore?
Did these phones work in the past?
Of course, different outlets and USB chargers may help with the charging issue. Although I'm sure you've tried this.
For your phone, try a different battery maybe?
If all else fails, you could try to manually replace the charge port. :/
Try booting up a Linux Live CD and trying to USB connect with that.
Does ADB work?
For your wife's phone...the only thing that comes to mind is rooting and flashing another ROM.
If it makes you feel better, you aren't the only one with issues.
My screen digitizer is failing. (Thread in Q&A - "Phantom Touch Input")
No, no more warranty says both Verizon and HTC. My wife's phone worked perfectly til about a week and a half ago.
I have tried about 3 different USB charging cables...both those that came with the phone and other micro usb cables.
I have tried both of the batteries, both fully charged to no avail.
I don't have any experience with Linux, and don't think it would change the PC recognizing the phone.
The computer will not recognize anything with the USB, so getting to ADB is a problem.
How can I root/flash a rom without the computer?
I'm afraid that if I replace the charging port, I may still need to replace other things. The Charger doesn't really explain why the phone won't get past the white HTC Screen, right?

do you have these htc drivers installed
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
Yes...the drivers are installed. I have another identical phone and the USB is recognized as normal. The affected phone is not recognized at all.
When I plug it in, the amber light comes on for 20 seconds (I've timed it) then goes off. Phone will no longer do anything without having the battery taken out.

Lastly, have you tried another computer?
We'll go from there. I'm afraid Verizon is shafting you. I hope you can escalate.
Yes, I have tried on my Lenovo laptop, and on a Dell laptop. Both will recognize my (working phone) and not recognize my wife's (non-working phone)

Good to know. I will be honest- I'm not entirely sure what do, however I will continue to propose options as they come to mind. Hopefully someone with a little more expertise will see this and will be able to provide some valuable nuggets of knowledge.

Have you tried updating drivers?
So I got a bricked Nitro HD from a friend. It was showing the dreaded QHUSB_DLOAD device, meaning it would not go into download mode either. I thought about getting a medusa box and doing the jtag restore myself, but I didn't want to invest so much money. I was trolling ebay for phones with broken screens/cases so I could replace my motherboard, but then I saw that MobileTechVideos would unbrick my device for $50 (plus one way shipping to Bryan, TX).
This was cheaper than buying a for-parts one off ebay, so I decided to do it. But it came back to me in a sorry state:
First, I plugged it into my computer USB port via a cheap type-A-to-micro adapter that worked for my LG vortex. As it started charging I saw they put cyanogenmod 9 on it. But it was freezing every other second. Also the camera didn't work, the wifi was broken, and it would only intermittently detect anything on my computer (lots of that USB detection sound followed by the USB unplug sound). I didn't yet have a SIM card, so I couldn't test the mobile connectivity.
I figured out that it was freezing every other second only when plugged into my computer. It would go from charging to discharging every time it froze. When I plugged it into a normal AC/DC converter it charged with no freezing.
Then I saw that it was a very old nightly build of CM9, so the first thing I did was download a "stable" CM10.zip for the p930. I installed it with CWM from the sdcard. This got the wifi and camera working, but everything else was the same as before.
I took the phone apart and I could see where the soldering had to be done on the circuit board--right next to the USB port. I figured one of the delicate USB signal traces got too much heat.
I got a SIM, which didn't work at all for connecting to a mobile network. The IMEI showed 0, and the baseband was for a different model. I tried to update the baseband and firmware, but that didn't do anything.
Then to my surprise the USB worked when I put it in download mode. I decided to try starting over at the unbricking guide. I put the Korean V10F KDZ on there, which fixed the mobile network connection - I could make calls. But now the WIFI didn't work among other small annoying interface issues with the Korean ROM. Also the USB now did absolutely nothing except charge the battery. No matter the mode, there was no USB communication - not even the flaky intermittent detections I saw before.
So now I'm stuck with no root, no CWM, no custom ROMs. Unless I'm mistaken, every avenue to root the device from V10F involves ADB over USB. But the USB is definitely broken for everything but download mode. Perhaps because the USB traces are good enough for lower USB synchronization speeds, or maybe the USB host for download mode uses different undamaged wire traces?
I think the best I can do now is stock ROMs with no root. I have to say I expected more from the unbricking service.
It occurred to me that it was my friend who put the retarded version of CM9 on the phone, and MobileTechVideos simply restored the booting functionality.
Problem now is that the mobile connectivity WAS working until the carrier banned the phone for having a 0 IMEI. So now I have to find out if that can be repaired without JTAG or ADB.
Hey, I got another USB cable and it works! It was just the adapter that was a piece of crap.
I restored the IMEI with QPST: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802024
Now I can root and install custom roms!
I am on the same computer, and have had everything properly working in the past. anyway, i gave my girlfriend my evolte, and i picked up my epic again. im having data problems and probably gotta reprovision the phone via the bootable sd rom. I didnt have trouble mounting my sd card via usb cable in the past, but now it doesnt do anything but charge. i tried jumping in recovery and mounting it through cwm but no go. any suggestions? i do have the usb driver and had this whole fiasco with getting the thing to mount in the past but ironed it out, and now it seems its at it again.
ok. it was the cable. the same cable in the same port that i never removed stopped working. god is this phone picky. it doesnt even like what it used to like
That's Samsung for you. I am now on my second Samsung device and they are so different in the functions, it is ridiculous. Before the android devices, I actually come from Palm (webOS). So much better. Unable to brick. Easy to tweak. Easy to customize. They just couldn't stay up on the development side (new phones), plus they sold out to HP. Bummer...
Hello,
So last year I took the plunge and got myself one of these extremely overrated fancy touch screen phones. Ever since day one, I've been having issues with the phone not communicating with the USB, yet my A516 had no problems, aren't newer phones supposed to be better?
It's not driver related or computer related. My brother has the same phone and his communicates with the PC all the time with no issues, his is the T-999
Last year, I used his cable and it worked after a few tries with my phone, and was able to quickly root it, but after that it shat the bed again.
I tried again last week and it worked both on my laptop and my PC, but now it has the same problem, very frustrating.
I've tried a few USB cables and a few computers as well, all end up with the same problem. I used KIES, the Snapdragon Toolkit and the drivers off of Samsung's website. I even installed Linux on my PC hoping that it would solve it, but nope, nada.
Jiggling the USB cable on the phone does not do anything either
Anyone have an ideas what it could be?
As of now, I am running a Rooted S3 I747 with AOKP 4.2.2 Build 3.6.2013
Thanks.
EDIT:
When using the S3 Toolkit, there is a serial number, but it shows it as offline.
This was put off for a while because it happened before, so I at the time I had another s3 (busted digi), was another T-mobile variant. And I just switched mobos and speakers (oddly didn't work with "broken" mobos one). So after I finished that it booted and everything worked fine. Fast forward a few days and I installed 6.0.1 cm13 (unofficial I believe).
I had tried a ton of roms, but onto the point, there was another rom I wanted to try and guess what, it didn't work. It didn't kill the mobo (other didn't either), but it doesn't want to boot into the os, nor recovery nor even odin. BUT, it's still being read by my laptop, as in I can hear the connecting and disconnecting sounds, and it even charges for about 5 or 6 seconds before shutting off.
It still plugs in charges, but it won't boot. Can anyone help? or point me in a direction that would help?
I've heard of Jtags and all that, but atm I can't exactly do that, nor do I trust it very much. So any help would be amazing, I really love this s3.
If you found something let me as well because i did the same.
But sadly mine isn't even charging but i do hear it connect to my laptop and led turns on if i take out the battery and connect the wall charger.
This is not my device so please help me fix it asap.
message me if you could talk to me on hangouts.
Does anything appear on the screen? Does the phone show up as a new device named "QHUSB loader", or something like that, in Device Manager?
