SIM Card problems - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got a HTC Inspire on AT&T. A while back, tried to swap sims so my wife could use it. Inserted sim and booted up and said "no sim in phone", but there was. Went to AT&T and they tried 3 different sims and only MY sim card worked. Oh well, Im the only one who can use it.
Skip ahead.
Tried out my wifes Lumia and she used my Atrix. Switched back today cause she wanted her Lumia back. Got a new sim card today, went to start up the Inspire and back to the "No Sim inserted". Essentially the only sim that worked on it is no longer in service.
Do I have a nifty paperweight now?
Does accidently hitting SIM Lock in HBOOT actually do anything? I can't remember if I hit it before.

It does sound strange. Have tried switching between 2g and 3g to see if it makes any difference?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
2g makes no diff, ill have to wait for a phone to use and call them, and then most likely get a new phone, then unroot mine yaya and so on lol.

If you are both T-Mob, then of course you are the same network. They don't build a new set of cell towers just for pre-paid. They just change the way they bill you.
ya need to get a new phone, went back to stock rom and still is messed up
called tmobile and it turned out to be my sim card was a older version and had switched networks too many times and couldnt connect anymore. took the one that came with the phone and got it setup and its all good again.

Well, if the memory on the SIM card is akin to flash memory, I guess it's possible.

Really? Totally believe you just dont see the logic behind it. Why would they make a sim card only be able to switch networks so many times? Makes no sense. The person you talked to probably just had no idea what they were talking about!
Pretty much every rewritabe non volatile memory technology out there has a limiter number of writes that can be performed on it before it fails. Maybe a SIM card will last for > 10 years. I don't know, I haven't been with a single provider long enough to find out. I can see where this was a logical hypothesis on the part of the rep, and since replacing the sim worked, where is the problem?

Simm card problem

Just got a note 2 Simm free, took the simm out of my one X put it in the note 2 but all the phone says no simm inserted...??? Any ideas as to what or why is going wrong...??
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Either 3 problems ; u inserted it in a wrong way, not supported by this mobile or EFS is missing
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Inserted correctly as it can only go in one way due to the cut off the simm.
Phone was bought simm free and unlocked to all networks (uk) and my simm works fine in my HTC One X.
What is the last one..???

Did you fully insert the sim card in the slot?
Do you have a microsim that you cut yourself?

How to tell if handset is sim free or not?

Hi
Just bought a Note II, I was told it was a sim free model, and whilst its accepted my tesco sim card without issue when I log into google play on my pc its brought it up as an O2 Samsung GT-N7100 so the question is have I been sold a O2 handset thats been unlocked? I know it doesnt really matter that much but curious more than anything
Or is it possible tgey have flashed it with a o2 firmware my mistake?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
You could try. Borrowing a friends sim and see if you can send a message. If yes, the you are likely sim unlocked.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
The N7100 is the international version so it should be sim free.
To test your if your phone is unlocked, insert another sim card other than your "tesco". And if it shows enter sim unlock code, it is locked, otherwise it is unlocked.

Tesco runs on the O2 network. That is why, sometimes Tesco handsets will work with O2 Sim Cards only etc...
Yeah I know, hence why im looking to change o2 data coverage is shocking and I cant use sky go or tvcatchup using 3g as it comes up with some rubbish about saying im abroad...

[Q] Check if locked on unlocked?

So I tried to activate a used Note 2 I just bought from someone on Canada's Telus network. According to the CSR the phone is not unlocked. Is there something I can do on the phone to check this?
I tried the "*#simlock#" or "*#simlock#*" or "*#simlock" and all of them just say "Not registered on network."
I did a IMEI lookup and it says my phone is not "blocked" (stolen?) but I can't find anything on how to check if it's locked or not.
Go in the boot loader and choose the sim lock option

How do I get into the bootloader? I can get into Odin Mode and the "Downloading..." screen...

Hold the power button + down volume when your phone is shut down!
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
If I press and hold those 2 keys it just continually reboots. If I press and hold them until something comes on the screen and then let go it just goes into Android.
If I add the Home button to the mix, I end up at the "Downloading..." screen at which point I need to pull the battery to reboot it.
I am a complete noob to Android, by the way, if that wasn't clear.
Haha alright... do you have an other carrier sim card?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
No. The only SIM card that will fit (microSIM) is the Telus one I just bought. I have a work phone on Bell but it's not a microSIM and I'm not going to cut it or I won't be able to put it back in my work phone.
I should clarify that the Note 2 was being used on Bell and I am trying to use it Telus but they said it wasn't unlocked and they couldn't put it on their network.
I also read that I should get a warning error if I put a different SIM in and it is not unlocked but I started it up with my Telus SIM and got no errors.
I'm starting to wonder if they just had a typo in the IMEI or something but if I can find something on the device to prove it's unlocked then I'll know for sure.

Well actually, if your phone was on BELL and you are using it on TELUS and receving sms,data,etc... your unlocked!

That's the problem. They refused to activate it saying it wasn't unlocked. So no, I am not receiving anything on it. If I hadn't had problems getting them to activate it, I probably wouldn't be posting this.
I have a totally different phone which is s-off and unlocked boot loader and all that. If I go to that option in my fastboot screen and I her a bunch of errors like emmc fail and such would that indicate my phone was sim locked? I'm on a droid incredible 4g LTE from Verizon. I'm just curious! Thanks

I just want to check since I have no idea how the CSR knew. They just told me it must not be unlocked but I think they just messed something up on their end.

Looks promising. I don't get a network lock dialog like they show, though. That's why I don't think it's locked. The reason I'm not getting anything from the network is probably because they didn't activate the new SIM because they were having some kind of issue with the IMEI. It'd be nice if they filled in the customer a little more about what the issue is.

Apparently I was right because I called them again today and they didn't even want the IMEI which is what they were having problems with yesterday and now that I've got the SIM activated I'm sending and receiving calls so I guess it's unlocked after all.
Yes it is haha your sim wasn't activated that was the problem !

About Sim Card's

Sorry for being a noob, but this is my first GSM phone.
Do i have to activate the service first before my phone picks up that i have a sim card in? (Simple Mobile)
Because as of now, my phone keeps saying "no sim card" in the notification bar.
I used this guide to unlock my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34661189&postcount=1
Thanks.
The service has to be activated before you put the sim in. Else it will my never be able to latch on to a network
