Hi
Just bought a Note II, I was told it was a sim free model, and whilst its accepted my tesco sim card without issue when I log into google play on my pc its brought it up as an O2 Samsung GT-N7100 so the question is have I been sold a O2 handset thats been unlocked? I know it doesnt really matter that much but curious more than anything
Or is it possible tgey have flashed it with a o2 firmware my mistake?

You could try. Borrowing a friends sim and see if you can send a message. If yes, the you are likely sim unlocked.

The N7100 is the international version so it should be sim free.
To test your if your phone is unlocked, insert another sim card other than your "tesco". And if it shows enter sim unlock code, it is locked, otherwise it is unlocked.

Tesco runs on the O2 network. That is why, sometimes Tesco handsets will work with O2 Sim Cards only etc...
Yeah I know, hence why im looking to change o2 data coverage is shocking and I cant use sky go or tvcatchup using 3g as it comes up with some rubbish about saying im abroad...

SO you probably bought a SIM locked SIII.
Example: You bought a T-Mobile GS3 and are trying to use a AT&T sim card. You need the carrier unlock code from the originating carrier that issued the phone.
What company is your sim card from? And what company is on the back of the phone?

ebay search unlock code t999. itll cost you 9 dollars and youll have to let the dude remote access your pc to unlock it.

Thanks.
Also, does it have DC-HSPA+?
Yes to unlocked and yes to unbranded. I brought someones 3 upgrade and put my t-mobile sim card in.
Whats DC-HSPA+?

It's certainly unbranded, not a bit of bloatware to be seen. Can't comment on it being unlocked though as don't have another micro sim to try it. .. hopefully it is.
Is there another way of checking if the phone is unlocked?

Up to 42mbps, Three should have it soon I think. The Galaxy S3 has it, so I'm wandering if this has it too.
I ask because I would have got the 4G one from T-mobile, but T-mobile are completely useless and I can't bare being on their network any more.
Just tested my Note 2 from 3 with my cousin's O2 sim card, pleased to report it's unlocked and worked fine
Managed to try another sim tonight and I'm happy to report the phone is unlocked
I wonder if it's just the first batch from three though that come unbranded and unlocked?
The three customer service bloke advised me that there would be a charge to unlock the phone...

I got mine from 3 and can confirm it's unlocked, unbranded, and has hspa+. Speedtest app showing downloads of 9mb down and 2.5mb up. The network symbol changes from H to H+ depending on what's available

Excellent news, I've just recieved my upgrade from 3 today, it is awesome and to make it even better because I've been with them for 8 years and threatened to leave they give it me for £24 a month on the one plan!

I don't think it does. Just 21mb down on Samsungs site.
I asked in the shop from a rep who seemed to know just about everything about the SGNII - HSPA IS on all 3s SGNIIs and it is not likely they will be getting 4G any time soon as "the standard" - probably at least a year (not sure if that means the same as DC-HSPA+).
Mine's an unbranded (no other microsim to test unlocked) but it frequently shows the 'H+' symbol.

Hi
Does anyone know if three actually block tethering on the ultimate internet tarriff, or just hold you in breach of contract if they find you? Am currently on orange and although you're not allowed to tether it works. I rarely do but its handy on the rare occasions when my home tinternet is down, for example. Would rather not stump up the extra for the one plan since tethering will be very rare.

As far as I know there's no way for them to tell if you're tethering or not.
First thing I did after going into the 3 store to get my Note 2 a week ago was head to a carphone warehouse nearby and cheekily ask if I could borrow a microsim from another network to see if my phone was unlocked. The girl in the shop was kind enough to lend me the vodafone sim from her personal iphone 4s (and was definitely impressed by the Note 2), and voila it turned out it was completely unlocked and unbranded!
Result!
like the old apps that calculated the unlock code for you?
Yes but not the way u require

Why not tell your carrier that you are going overseas and want to use your phone and ask them to unlock it I did and T-Mobile sent me the code for my phone at no charge. My problem is coming up with a non-tmobile sim card.
thanks but i tried that a while back. no such options for me

i think o2 won't do it for a while
I got my unlock code directly from AT&T. I do not have another carrier sim card to place in the phone (that will fit, this is a smaller than standard size sim card). There are people in my office that have T-mobile, sprint, or Virgin but have full size sim cards.
Any suggestions or instructions??
Thanks!!
I've heard about a few people going into t mobile and asking to borrow one. They shouldnt mind they are probably thinking you'll use on tmob after unlocking

I'm wondering - would a SIM from an AT&T MVNO (such as RedPocket) be considered a "non AT&T SIM card" for purposes of unlocking?
I just bought an "H20 Wireless" micro sim card on Ebay for .99.
Hopefully it will do the trick...will post an update (if anyone cares) if it does or doesn't work when I receive it.
Why don't you just store the code and use it when you get any non att sim? I mean, why waste money, even a $, unless well you have a willing non att friend who can lend you his sim.

Got it. I didn't think of selling phone. I was thinking on my lines given that I am a frequent traveler, and get code from AT&T within 90 days or earlier of getting a new phone.
OK. so i put the H2O sim card in and reboted several times and all I get is "sim card not provisioned".
So I just borrowed a Verizon sim card from someone in the office that has a Verizon Galaxy S III and got the same thing.
I am not being prompted for an unlock code?
What Am I doing wrong???
Hi folks.
I'm switching networks from O2 to talktalk (vodafone) and I'm wondering if anyone can direct me to a free method of doing this. I've watched the videos on youtube that allow it to be done by dialing “*#197328640#” on the phone but when I enter the network lock section it says "MENU NOT EXIST"
I'm guessing this is an O2 thing so can anyone help me find a way to get my device unlocked?
ps. Hope I have this in the correct section. I've also tried searching on here but no joy.
Thanks

GalaxSim worth the couple of bucks.
I think you have to downgrade to a 4.1.1 rom first, unlock your phone then flash a 4.1.2 rom.

I've tried using galaxsim but I'm getting
"unable to read NV data"
You guys are saying it's worth the money but the app appears to be free. I can't see a paid version only a free version.
It will ask you to buy if you want to use it to unlock.

Thanks for the reply's folks.
I downgraded to 4.1.1 to try using the *#197328640# method but that hasn't worked.
I've tried using the old version kdogguk posted but i'm getting invalid IEMI number now but it's saying my phone is unlocked
my phone is locked tho as it won't take my new talktalk sim.
My phone was stuck on boot screen when I downgraded and I had to root though odin then reset it before it would work so I think I've downgraded to the wrong firmware as it is now branded O2 firmware where as before even tho it was locked to O2 the firmware was neutral (not O2 branded).
I've rooted as I said but it won't install custom roms so I have a problem now. Going to upgrade to 4.1.2 but need to make sure I have the right firmware this time.
I'm having some time of it right now lol
This galaxysim app is now saying my phone is unlocked but it won't take my talktalk (vodafone) sim
Still no luck? My note 2 was on o2 first thing I done was root it, tried that code but didnt work then used galaxsim its free but said it could be done paying £2 something. Then I installed a standard btu rom. Funny thing is not tried diffe sim yet. Just hate locked phones
Where abouts in UK are you?

on my phone it says my device is unlocked but when i try to call any number it says not registered on network, what's the problem?
turn off data. turn off mobile. turn them back on. reboot.
Galaxsim was saying my phone is unlocked but it wouldn't take my talktalk sim. I ended up paying £9 to get it unlocked on ebay. Working fine now.
Strange because my phone is O2 but I've been running it with a 3 sim from day one.
They should be unlocked by default.
