Sorry for being a noob, but this is my first GSM phone.
Do i have to activate the service first before my phone picks up that i have a sim card in? (Simple Mobile)
Because as of now, my phone keeps saying "no sim card" in the notification bar.
I used this guide to unlock my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34661189&postcount=1
Thanks.
The service has to be activated before you put the sim in. Else it will my never be able to latch on to a network

How long have you had your phone? I just got mine 3 days ago and a quick read through the manual said Verizon will unlock the SIM after 60 days of use. They at least want something out of having a customer purchase a world phone from them.
I traded a note for a t999 last night, but I was unable to immediately check phone connectivity due to not having a micro sim handy. So today I get a micro sim and call my provider, (simple mobile), and they change my sim number for me.
My card will not register with the network. i get bars that show signal, but phone information shows no service. I have no data even with the corrrect APN. Simple Mobile Tech support says they have registered the SIM but it does not show as connecting.
I went to tmobile and they used one of their sims on the phone, but again, no registration.
The phone is rooted, I can boot it into CWM.
Im thinking that the prior owner messed something up, possibly by changing a radio/modem or something. Im not sure I can even warranty repair it via Samsung because he rooted it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? PLEASE?
Odin back to stock?

Sounds like you have a broken pin in your sim slot. I'd bet money on it. I think there's suppose to be 6 and if 1 breaks this is what happens.

i tried flashing back to stock using Odin, but it makes no difference. flash count shows 2. Does this mean the phone is not covered under samsung warranty?
You can reset the flash counter. I believe the thread is in android development on how to do this.

The phone's IMEI could be blocked if it is not able to connect to network
I got an unlock code from AT&T, but I was never prompted to enter it after putting an H2O Wireless SIM card in my GS3. I'm able to place/receive calls and get data after entering APN settings.
My phone is rooted, but I didn't think it was already unlocked. Maybe I missed something. Any ideas? Thanks..

Did you buy the phone from someone else or an official retailer brand new in the box? If the former, someone may have already unlocked it. Otherwise did you perform the JB unlock method via the services menu?

I purchased the phone new from AT&T and rooted it a few days later. I never did the JB unlock.

Prepaid or postpaid... They all work as long as they are same phone service provider. Try a different network n see if that works.
Its a network lock, not a service/plan lock.

I guess that explains it, since H2O uses AT&T's network.
I just brought a galaxy s3 from cragalist and it's in like new condition but when i put my micro SIM card I see bars but when i try to call it says not registered on network. I'm using simple mobile.

May be its not unlocked.
Is it on the right APN?

NO signal, as the title says, would mean you dont see any bars. Since you are seeing bars, then your having a registration issue.
does the sim work in another device? do you have the right APN? Have you tried power cycling the device. Usually if you have it on, put in a sim, the APN is then loaded but not set. Power cycling it again will then enable the APN. At least thats what has happened to me a few times with my TMO card and unlocked devices.
The best place to get a solution, contact the carrier. We can bit around the bush for you, but it's not going to help much.

...turn off the phone. Or pull the battery. Both are power cycling. I'd pull the battery in your case

I have bought a service to get an Unlock Code for my Samsung Galaxy S3 T999N which is SIM Locked by Metro PCS. They provided me with some 4 codes: NETWORK, PROVIDER, SUBPROVIDER, DEFREEZE.
When I turn on my phone with a non-metropcs sim, the phone prompts: "PIN to unlock SIM service provider" so I put the PROVIDER code that I got from FATSGSM after hitting "Unlock" I get the following message: "unable to unlock sim service provider"
What is wrong? Could the PIN provided by this service be wrong?
Just an FYI, I am outside the US right now.
Have you tried using the metro sim?

I don't have the metro sim.
Ok. Im not certain about it, but it might be required for the initial unlock. Hopefully someone else can say for sure.

Thanks for reply to my post.
This might not be true because if you have the Metro PCS sim card inside, you will not get the unlock box. You only get the box to put the unlock code in when you put a non-MetroPCS sim card.
Can anyone corroborate this information?

He means it may need to be activated with the carrier first in order to be unlocked.. Some phones do require this.. You can try the region unlock app but I'm not sure if it works with s3

I used it when I got my replacement S3 a while back and it said the unlock was successful. I have no way to test if it really was or if it also SIM unlocked though. I wouldnt expect it to do so, but in my experience, it is safe to try.
