Some Doubts about the OneX - HTC One X

Hey there, I have a some questions 4 r I hope I get an answer for:
1-I'm a galaxy S1 user with no lock Bootloader, does it hard to lock and root than flash Rom's as Simmy phones?
2-what's the known problems of this device? Have the new update solve it out?
3-in my S1 ,in a normal day use , I got 23h of battery life (with sync,Bluetooth,...off) what's the result in the OneX ?
4-users said the battery life is massively increased ,by how mush you guess?
5-does the update solve the 23fps issue in video recorded?
6-do u think this device will keep getting updates as mush it can handle it ,or will be abounded due to the company passing through a financial problem, especially when it abound the desire HD ,while it can handle the ICS ,my S1 can
7-I would like to see what have the new update add +pic's.
Thx, sorry for writing in such a miss ,by the way ,how's my English ,I'm really interested in what u think

You can find answers to all your questions by searching this forum. Most of the topics (i.e: how to root, battery life etc.. have their own dedicated threads). But I will give you few simple answers to start you off.
It involves several steps, but they are very easy to follow. Keep in mind : Unlocking the boot loader would most probably void your warranty, and there is NO way to revert it back to the original state without any traces ! (You might be able to root without unlocking the boot loader in the future, but its not possible yet. For more info read up on S-OFF)
There is a known wifi antenna issue with older models, a screen flickering problem (to which there is already a software fix), and multi-tasking issues in HTC’s ROM. Some have also reported overheating under heavy 3D gaming
I too had a S1 previously; in my experience battery life is about the same (perhaps slightly less in One X, but not much). I can comfortably get through the day (16+hrs) which is enough for me.
Massively increased compared to what?
Didn’t check, don’t record videos much
S1 never got an official ICS update from Samsung, if you consider custom ROMs (i.e CM ROMs) then One X has plenty of support in that department. So even if HTC fails to keep up with the updates the community will (however you may not get all the benefits of the phone with 3rd party ROMs, for example camera features or quality)
It didn’t add much visual changes, except the ability to remove a special menu bar that appeared with some older apps, and a quick settings option in the notification area. Again search for more info.

I think the ota and better benchmark of hox put Sammy nervous. I read the full Forum and never see such a movement and problemas, and questions. Htc is doing well so.
My friend, the Forum is full of thread about general info, roms, kernels, mods.
So dont be lazy and read. I spend 3 hours a day reading and learning so you can do the same.
Cheers

Wait for official Froyo? Or use Custom Rom?

Hello everybody!
My question is simple.
Should i wait for the official Froyo for my HTC Desire, or should I usw a custom Rom from this Board?
I am very disappointed with the battery-time of my normal stock 2.1 rom...
My Desire just lasts for about one day with normal usage.
Is the battery-life going to be better with the official froyo (an with roms out of the section of rom-cooking in this board) ?
Would you recommend me to wait for the official Rom, or not?
Are there some reasons against an unofficial froyo-rom?
Wich rom you would recommend at the moment?
(dont need htc-sense...)
Thanks for you help, and sorry for bad english
If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend checking out "Juice Defender" in the Marketplace. You can fine tune your APN/WIFI settings and such to get much more out of your battery. Best of all it's free. If that doesn't satisfy your battery hungry needs then I suggest you stop listening to my advice as I know squat about custom Roms. What I do know though is that battery life is reported to be greatly improved in Froyo.
Even if you wait for official froyo, the devs here will make it better and add more features make it faster etc and you'll be back here in no time you can always unroot your phone of you change your mind.
the proper answer world be depends on how you use your phone, I too would suggest using "Juice Defender" if your battery needs are not met, however note that even if you w8 for the official froyo rom you will probably not notice a major power saving effect over the existing rom. In fact I doubt that you will notice any improvement in battery life whatsoever considering you seem to be a proper power user.
Some custom roms run less services/process so you will be able to save up some battery life, its the only proper way too cut down on power consumption I would imagine the closer to the vanilla system the better.
With HTC straight out lying about the release date for the update (as usual), yesterday I took the plunge and have moved over to DeFroST after rooting.
Based on my initial impressions, battery life has improved. Rooting opens up the possibility of using the brilliant application that is setCPU to very finely tune many battery consuming aspects of the device and should make 48hrs achievable without switching off push and sync. There's a thread in the dev section about this.
I would do it. DeFroST is a brilliant ROM, but there are plenty of gems in the Dev section

I'm guessing you needed an unlock code to upgrade your radio since your on orange?
i flashed yesterday and , oh boy, what can i say - its great.
you root your phone with unrevoked, then flash a custom rom, then the new radio ( for froyo ). easy, peasy, painless. froyo kicks ass, i chose leedroid and its so speedy, an battery life has improved, altough not too much i think
@ bedeabc
When did HTC lie about the release date:???: the only official announcement I heard was 3rd quarter... there is still weeks/months to go yet. Any reply you see posted via some ones uncle who told my mother that apparently honest to god customer service said two weeks...is not 'official' lol.

So, you guys think, that its not be worth, to wait for the official froyo?
There will not be some "new" things, i will miss in the froyo, I can get in den Dev-Area?
Cause i dont like it, to change the rom every 2 month ;-)
ATM I have a rooted desire with ocuv kernel.
Untouched radio.
Is the upgread "heavy"? (dangerour, time-expensive?)
Thanks for all of your Help
I just upgraded to Froyo, Android 2.2, yesterday.
Well i think i love it. Extra functions and the speed is incredible.
When rooting & new rom - do you lose HTC Sense?

Well me personal I'm waiting, if I had a branded phone I probably wouldn't wait as it'll be X amount of weeks after HTC release until you carrier release its version with bloatware.
I am obviously one of those easily satisfied people, I think its a great phone as is with just a few tweaks here and there (voice search, keyboard etc..) which didn't even require root

depends on the new rom. If it has Sense you don't lose it Rooting doesn't concern Sense or anything else on interface
what's important for everyone who's considering to move on new froyo sense roms (2.06) - they're stable and fast, I'm using them for a week and haven't noticed one error or reboot.
You can try them out and then decide for yourself whether to return to eclair, or use them until htc releases official version. I'm certain you will choose second option

I have faith with this phone

got it yesterday and there are a couple of issues like the battery drain and the slow rendering on browser but i'm sure this is going to get the sort of support the htc desire did, early days yet peeps
I have faith in it, I love it already.
I had the HTC desire the last 2 years since it came out, and this has better battery life than the desire ever did out the box.
I think we should get good suport this year from HTC with some updates, or plenty of custom roms

too true, think htc have got something in the pipeline already for some of the bugs in the first post
I feel the same its such a beautiful phone..
I was a bit concerned after reading all the bugs etc but believe the OTA update will fix many of those..
Testing the English repack of the Chinese OTA at the moment... so will see how that goes ^_^
I have faith, too... Gonna get it next week. But I think that we should write more letters to HTC and report them all bugs and problems. In my opinion, it is the only way to get them fixed. So hurry up and go to htc.com and write them a letter or a bad review.
Time...
Dear All,
I played with the HOX a couple days ago at work as my colleague just purchased one earlier this week. The screen is great and held in hand experience is really good. The phone definitely doesn't feel this big. There are bugs that will be ironed out in the next few months. I'm waiting till May to see if HTC will update the firmware. The waiting is hard but I still have my stable Desire to keep me company.
Does this phone have bugs? Mine runs like a dream, Coming from LG optimus 2x this phone us a work of art, 1billion times better than the optimus 2x, would never buy another lg, as much as I'd hate to say it is rather have an iphone than another lg
100% faith in HTC

just use chrome FFS
the battery issue is a lot better with 1.28 OTA (which most people haven't got yet) or just root and go one of the popular custom ROMs with this fix already applied
This is truly the best device out at the moment.
It is was better than my Samsung Galaxy SG2 and I really loved that device.
Previously I had HTC HD2, which was a great device.
HTC is always excellent for the most part.
Any issue will be addressed in a very short while, believe me, this is the best forum for help and fixes.
As it is still very new, be patient, it will all have within the next few months. Or earlier !
I am running stock ROM and I am super happy with the speed and performance.
Regarding battery usage etc.... it takes a while to tweek it with one's own battery management. ie Use low screen brightness setting, not auto. Don't have everything on auto sync......choosing syncing every 3hrs, 6hrs or 12hrs, 24hrs, unless super important. Keep those wakelocks to a minimum operation. If you don't need an application that is constantly running, change the settings. These are all common sense things to do, but some people forget or don't realise they can change them.
But, rooting is where it is often the best solution, as other kernels will be developed which will always give one the best performance due to customisation of the kernel etc..
But if one is on a stock ROM, like me, battery maintenance is the way to go.

[Q] Some short q's about kernels, roms and rooting.

Before i'll begin: I don't speak english very well, so don't judge me, please Sorry for my mistakes
I've got some questions about custom things/root on HOX:
1) Are there any possibilities to reduce the temperature/heat of the phone by flashing some custom kernels/roms?
2) Should i root or not? The stock rom is just a pile of shoes. I'm using my X for about 1 month and i really like it, but all this small bugs are driving my **** all the time.
3) Can i fix screen flicker by flashing another rom?
4) What's the best custom rom in your opinion? I bought my oneX for it's performance, so i need a really fast and stable rom.
5) Is a clicking noise in the background a software problem or should i replace it? It not permanent but it appears the one(X) or the other day/hour.
Thank you for your answers!
I also think that those questions are very important for a person, which want's to root or just rooted her/his oneX.
Another question
Are there some users from germany, who had to return their rooted oneX and pay for it replacement/repair? What do you have to pay in that case?

1) there is an app called core control which lets you turn off cores and run the phone as a dual core/tricore massively lowering heat. you can find it here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652136
2) Most custom roms come with it pre-rooted, main thing it lets you back up you apps + data
3) From what i read screen fliter is either reduced or fixed in custom ROM, i don't have screen flicker on my HOX so i can't comment
4)I use leedroid ROM gives me best battery life, 13 hours with 3+ hours screen time, just try a few you'll find one you'll like.
5)Clicking from the external speaker? pretty sure thats software happened on stock doesn't on custom.

They would have to pay the cost of shipping + the cost of replacing the motherboard, don't live in Germany so i can't say how much it will cost.
Something to add

Thank you By 2) i mean if i should stay on stock because of the warranty but with all this bugs or should i root and enjoy my awesome phone?
And another one
If we will get an S-OFF possibility can i lock my bootloader again and s-off it sooo i can flash the stock one with s-on option to make it "just-like-it-looked-like-at-the-beginning"?
Is there already a >3.0 Kernel out?

[Q] Questions from possible future Note2 owner

Hey folks!
Been a long user of Xperia Arc S (2011, official updates never got past crappy 4.0.4), now it is time to upgrade. I was looking at something in medium price range, Note 2 caught my eye. The Development section appears to have great activity as well, so guess this phone does sure have some after-market worthness. Still I thought to ask you, how happy are you with your devices.
First, if I am actually going to buy this phone, is there any difference between the colors? Do the materials differ? Is the grey one also more fingerprint and dirt prone than the white one?
How powerful are the CPU and GPU on the phone? Can these take some stress or are they under continuous pressure by the firmware? By that I mean, how well is the firmware optimized? How many user apps can the phone run in addition to system apps before I should start rooting and throwing out some unnecessary crap? Or should I directly move to a custom ROM (might want to explain regarding the counters and official firmware issues)?
Looking in the General section, I see the Android 4.3 update has brought many negative emotions to the forum due to missing features and worse user experience. As I checked from my operator, the phone is sold with 4.1.2 on it. Is it worth to upgrade to 4.3 (I wonder if the update has any major positive sides as well)?
I have played around a lot with ROMs and kernels and basebands and stuff on Xperia models, but I am completely new to the Samsung world of smartphones, thereby any kind of feedback (I won't mind critism either ) is certainly welcome.
That's it for now, I will shoot more questions once I get some!
Hi and welcome,
I love my Note II and had it since Feb 13. It is still fast and does everything. I even love the 4.3 update ,though I'm not on stock, bu on Criskelo ROM, it is much more fluid than 4.1.2 and I consider 4.3 a great update. If you look at the forums you will find a lot of poeple have problems with 4.3, but IMHO, much more don't have any problems. There is a topic on "report bugs" for 4.3 and voting and more people say it's stable than that they have problems. From my experience, since Criskelo is almost stock with Note 3 pack and couple of tweaks that you really should have on any rom (and can install manualy) - the battery is the same as on 4.1.2 and the ROM feels more fluid. I don't see why STOCK one wouldn't feel faster too.
There is some bloat, but that is easily removed, by freezing in Titanium backup, but most of the apps Samsung packs in TW ROMs are useful, IMHO. All sw for S-Pen, multiwindow, Find my phone service (really useful!!), etc. If you have Samsung TV - even more useful software So I froze just a couple of apps that I really don't need.
So I'd suggest you flash EITHER pre-rooted de-KNOXed stock, or some custom ROM. I read that DM and Phoenix are great too, but I am so much satisfied with Criskelo that I have doubts I'll be moving anywhere (well, maybe just for a test spin, but after a BACKUP)
So - 1) root, 2) flash custom recovery 3) backup whole ROM to SD card 4) erase+factory reset, 5) flash MJ5 bootloader (KNOX free), and then pick a ROM to flash. They mostly have AROMA installer so are flashed from recovery (custom ROMs, that is). I dunno about stock.
Just stay away from official 4.3 because it has KNOX which can void your warranty or prevent you from changing bootloader etc. Just use MJ5 bootloader, it is a bootloader for 4.3 which doesn't have KNOX.
Also, custom have 1 big adavtage for me - Note 3 software (It is stable!!).
Cheers,
D.
All right, thanks for the answer. Any more feedback?
Also, any recommendations regarding the color of the phone?
Awsome Note II
Note II seems to be one of the most interesting and customizable devices on the market now and thanks to the devs of custom roms you will be surprised how powerful and changeable this phablet is. Even after more than a year it can compete with many new devices.
Touchwiz and its S-Pen-features are unique :good:
Just take a short glimpse around on other devices here on XDA and you will see that there are only a handfull which have similar amount of custom roms and mods.

Custom ROM for improving battery life and phone expérience.

Hello all !
I recently buy an samsung galaxy s9, I love it because of his size, today all manufacturers are racing for the biggest screen diagonal, but forget about the people who like compact phones.
the only thing I don't like is that the battery doesn't really last. I use some social networks like instagram or whatsapp to chat and the battery is not consistent enough for me, I think. (I uninstalled the bloatware app and made a maximum of optimization).
So I'm thinking about the solution of installing a custom rom. I'm doing some research and I like the pixel experience or the lineageOS.
The reason of my post is to ask you, you who know much better than me, is it really going to increase the duration of use?
Do you have any advice on this ? I read that you have to calibrate the battery after installing a rom but maybe you have other advice, a rom in particular, settings to do ?
For rooting i find this thread in this forum > https://www.thecustomdroid.com/samsung-galaxy-s9-plus-root/
but i got a SM-G960U1 that is not supported..
Thanks you a lot for all ur answer and information good to know XDA members !

I recommend to install a battery stats app, such as better Battery Stats (BBS), record an idle dump and then post it in the BBS thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/app-2-2-05-oct-v2-4-betterbatterystats.1179809/).
There are experts analyzing your stats and giving advices how to optimize your battery life.
Unfortunately rooting and flashing custom recovery/roms is not possible on devices with locked bootloader ... Like yours. Do you must unlock the bootloader first ... If possible.
