Hey guys, I need your help. Will the phone reset to defaults if I flashed an ftf to my phone? I was just making sure because I don't want to lose all the save files on my games. I can't root it yet (because it is in 4.0.1.a.0.62, that's why I need to flash it with .42) so I can't use titanium backup. Please help.
If it will delete all the data on the phone or there aren't any available methods to avoid it, well aren't there any apps for backing up my games that will include the data with the app? Thanks

Yes flashing a FTF file will wipe your phone to factory settings, the only data that will remain is whatever you have on your SD card.
As for rooting I'd try superoneclick, just in case, it might work. If not I think your best bet would be downloading Androzip from the store, navigating to the backup tag and back up your apps NOTE: I DON"T THINK THIS WILL BACK UP YOUR APP DATA SO BE WARNED.
Oh? Aren't there any apps that can backup my apps including its save data? I can't root it on superoneclick, even doomlord's zergrush. I'm gonna think about it first. Or do some research for new ways to backup these.
Thanks anyway

I think the title is misleading? It is just the same way how I root my phone but still it is stuck on step 7. I guess there's no other way except from downgrading it to .42 or .58. I was trying to flash the .42 ftf on fastboot a while ago, and there are checkboxes that says clear cache, clear data and clear user data, but ticking those boxes didn't help at all. I have no choice but to wipe all my progress. Thanks anyway.

Hi there!
I hope i'm not opening a repeated thread. I've search ( not correctly i think ) but i couldn't find any significant answer.
I've recently installed MIUI on my defy...
Now i want to install cyanogenmod and i'd like to know whether i can flash over miui without losing any data nor app.
Or should i have to downgrade to Froyo, lose ( surely i'll do a backup ) all my data, root my phone, install SndInit Defy and flash cm7?
Thus, what i have to do?
Thanks,
regards.

Well.. it won't brick your phone if you try to install the rom just by applying and wiping cache/dalvik only. I wouldn't recommend it, but you could give it a try. Do a backup first.
But despite that, I don't see that making a backup of the important apps and data via Titanium and applying that afterwards is so much work.

You see, the problem is that once i try to restore all apps from Titanium, it always ask the permission ( i.e. if i want to install the app or not )! It doesn't do a silent-install.
It's such a boring thing tapping "Install" for over 60 times :\.
Am i wrong or is there a way to do a silent restore of all backups?
Wipe data and cache from Custom Recovery and then flash CM7 without rebooting after wiping.

Yes, from there!
I choose to restore all lost apps + data, he always ask me if i want to install any single app...

I've read that only Titanium Backup Pro has this feature... I'm disappointed :\.
i wanted to know this too.
i am on cm7 and updating it is a cake.... i wanted to know if i can do the same interchangeably with cMIUI.
since both the roms are still developing. trying each and restoring backup is a pain.
any advice?

I have used both and I am currently coming back to CM7.
MIUI is somewhat frustrating for me, constant forceclose on the most basic apps and every update requires some kind of retinkering to get it back to work correctly (like reinstalling gapps and Ti).
Also, i dont like the stock MIUI apps such as dialer, messenger and contacts. I know that I can replace them but its a custom ROM and it think it should be optimal out of the box. I can deal with replacing one but at least three are too many for me.
I know this wasnt supposed to be a review but i wouldn't bother replacing CM7 with MIUI.
So... im not a noob but i never tried this before...maybe because i never found this answers...
I really want to root my Play R800i (4.0.2.A.0.42) running 2.3.4
with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859#
(yeah, just the root permissions, staing in the stock, without unlocking the bl...)
BUT, ive some questions
supposing that i do exatly the same as the tutorial, no errors... will bechance to brick it? (thats the more important one for me...)
will it delet my data and apps?
Can i stil upgrading by SonyEricsson?
yeah, thats it... thanks... and sorry about my english but i think that is understandable...
And another thing, there's any chances to get some problem with the buttons?(the game ones)

No there's no chance of bricking or messing up button etc,you can update, all your files will be the same and its pretty simple - you just have to run a script and it does it all for you ; it will close itself as well. NOTE- You can't update if you uninstall some apps I believe ; I've not tried it myself.
Ok thanks, I'll try today

I'm not sure you can backup rom completely without unlocking your bootloader and using clockworkmod recovery, but what i did was backup messages contacts etc with mybackup on the market, and apps+data with titanium then reflashed rom with flashtool erasing everything and running the programs i've mentioned when everything was finished.
so the best thing you can do is backup important things regularly and if your phone ever messes up you can always erase/restore everything
Hi there,
I want to factory reset my Xplay.
Is factory reset will lose the root? What about CWM recovery, busybox, titanium backup, etc that i already installed (root required apps). Will it cause errors after i factory reset my Xplay?
Really need an answer..thanks ya!
I think a factory reset just resets anything in /data but anything in /system should be fine. So root, busybox, CWM should be fine (not entirely sure though, since I don't normally use the built-in factory reset)

It will delete your apps. If you have made a backup using Titanium Backup you can easily restore them, you'll just need to reinstall Titanium from the market.

You'd still need to download CWM from the market anyway, so it's easier to just install TB from there
uh no. you dont need to download CWM as it wouldnt have been removed.
Hey guys, I was thinking about flashing a new ROM via CWM and I've been looking at alot of videos and tutorials online, and they all say, that when you install the new ROM you must "factory data reset" your phone from CWM. So my question is, what will that erase? Will it erase anything on my SD Card? And what programs should I use to backup my stuff, in case it does get deleted?

when you do a factory reset it will wipe internal storage not external(sd card). if you want to backup your apps etc. use either titanium backup or rom toolbox to do so.

once you back up your stuff. install titanium back or rom toolbox (whichever you used) from play store and select the restore option.

one last advice before you flash read ALL the instruction 2-3 times and ONLY flash when you understand them completely. follow that advice and hopefully you will never brick or harm your phone. good luck

Titanium backup only does your apps and app data......I recommend Easy Backup cuz that will get your SMS, MMS, Contacts, Calender, call log and even your apps

For photos, i recommend using G-Photos Sync feature. for apps, titanium backup, for contacts (the best you can do is export them to a vcf file transfer it to your pc then import from vcf file)
(For music i contain all the sound files on the ext-sd since factory reset doesn't touch ext-sd).
But if you have lost any of your important files, your best chance of getting them back is using hiren's boot on your pc with the undeleter tools.
Im using stock galaxy tab 3 lte sm-t215 (rooted) and i did a grievious mistake, wiped data/factory reset in stock recovery with not a single backup.
Ive tweak my device so much the way i wanted it already. PLEASE HELP if there is any way i can revert/restore everything back WITHOUT the use of any pc. Only terminal emulator.. :crying:

No.
@crazyVato, sorry, i meant to expand on that answer but got distracted.
for what you want to do and actually save as a backup you need to be rooted WITH custom recovery.
So long as your system is intact you can repeat the process of customizing but what's
wiped is gone. =(

I have a lot of empathy for your situation. Not many things give you that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach, but this is definitely one of them.
I am no expert but everything that I know tells me that there is no way to restore your device back the way way you had it.
I'm not certain which files remain intact following a factory reset but some do remain. Is it possible that once you rooted you made a backup that you don't remember making? It wouldn't hurt to reroot and poke around for a clockwork folder. SD Maid will also help find big files, in case a backup was stored in mnt/shell.
Best of luck to you.
