Hey guys N gals... Have had my. Sprint Gnex for about three weeks now and getting the hang of this bootloader and other stuff. Currently running some codename, so here's the Q. What kernel you running and why? What options do I have? Any feedback is appreciated.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
Trinity. I like the color and its given me great performance with great battery so I haven't seen the need to try anything else.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Franco Kernel. I started using it because I had that is was amazing... I have to reckon that I'm not completely happy with it...
Next one I want to try is trinity, although I have already try it, but I didn't like the color so much, so it just last 5 minutes, but I want to give it another try.

Thanks for the replys people. Much appreciated, are there any battery saver specific kernels that you know of?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
All kernels are pretty much the same. Just pick one and calibrate it. Change the governor. Undervolt it. Turn sync off if you don't need it underclock if necessary. My personal favorite is the samurai kernel as it is"specifically" made for the Sprint nexus. Although you can use them across all variants. There's is no one size fits all kernel no matter what they tell you.

Just tried flashing the samurai kernel and I was in a boot loop. Wiped cache and dalvik cache as well. What did i do wrong? Maybe bad download....?

Which one? What Rom. If you flashed the one in the very first post you flashed the wrong one. You need the one I posted at the last page or the second to last page. Sorry Earthbound had been MIA for a while.

This one works... no the other one was for stock android. But this one is for modded roms like cm 10. I will PM you the control app. But when the new one comes out it will be a paid app and you will have to purchase it.

Compile the stock tuna kernel from AOSP for maguro, toro, and toroplus, then diff them. I did this, and they were all exactly the same. Given this info, I don't see how one kernel can be built specifically for one of the three tuna devices. Granted, it may only be used and tested on one, but if all three kernels are the same, then built specifically for one means it should work on all of them.
any way you can pm me the control app, want to try out the kernel

I'm no kernel developer by any means. But this is what I was told by Earthbound who happens to be such. He tends to be right almost all of the time so I'm just reiterating. Was also why other kernels were on Linux 3.08 instead of the latest 3.31 (I think it was).

Latest stock kernel is 3.0.31

I don't believe that ICS kernel source has been released, so there is nothing to go by. GB kernels probably fell out of favor since most of us are probably on an ICS leak.

because development for this phone sucks relative to other phones. Even the 3d had more people when I had it. Not saying that our devs suck, just that we don't have a lot of them.

We have AOKP, Codenam, Gummy, CM9, Sprint Leaks, MIUI, Slim, RubiX ROM, Calkulins ROM, Blazer Rom, Venums ROM, Rujelus22 Rom, MIJJz's ROM, Agat's ROM, Venum's ROM, etc......These have all been without source, which is freaking spectacular if you ask me. Please tell me how the development for this phones sucks. Wtf does the 3d have that we dont? I came here from that peice of crap phone. One of those 4 may help when we get source but that's all I say because its not for sure and I don't want different teams bombing his inbox with PMs to give it to them first for personal glory. I asked for help for all of us. Hopefully it will happen.
As far as development for this phone...very touchy subject. We do have some great devs. I don't exactly know how many could build a ROM from the ground up. I think its the limitations of the code that's available. You can click on a Google page to get all of the source code for their phones. GNex got CM9, Euroskank, Miui, etc in a week. It doesn't mean their devs are necessarily better but the pieces are there for them to use

Not sure if many people were aware or not but Codename put out a ROM for our Sprint version. It's up on GOO and also if you just google Codename Android, his site will come up. Not sure why he didn't open a thread on here.
I ran his Roms on the Nexus and it was awesome, lots of customizations. It's more like AOKP as far as options as opposed to CM.
Edit: DO NOT FLASH YET, ISSUES BEING WORKED OUT.

AOSP is the original "android open source project" http://source.android.com/
this is the original project developed by Google. Its lightweight and pure android. Then vendors take this and make it to suit their needs.
all android is based off of this source then have features, tweaks, etc added to the rom.
CM and AOKP are the larger dev groups.
But when its all broken down, its all the same thing just wrapped up in a different package. some of the bigger changes come with a different launcher while features can be similar even though implemented differently...
I saw you had made something with a kitchen. that is a really small start to development and good luck with your work!
Thanks for the clarification

Is anyone else having an issue with the B-Team kernel and the proximity sensor? When I flash Evervolv nightlies and make a call, the display goes blank and touch events are ignored as they should be. If I then flash the B-Team kernel and make another call, the screen goes dark, but I can feel the vibration feedback as things happen on the phone when my cheek has contact with the display. Many times the call will hang up or airplane mode will activate or settings will be changed. I've gotten in the habit of holding the phone away from my face while running this kernel. I really like the performance over the occasional lag experienced with the stock Evervolv kernel.
I've been following various threads in here for over a year, but just recently got an account so I could subscribe to threads. This is my first post. Can't post in the B-Team kernel thread yet.
Well I now know I'm not alone on that one. I'm running PAC and yeah I've gone into settings and changed settings while on the phone.. I'm looking into the proximity sensor fixes... The sensor probably needs reconfigured or a lib is missing a permission
I wasent aware of this issue as i don't use my inc2 as a "phone" anymore so its hard for me to run down bugs pertaining to calls but if you can reproduce the problem and grab a log cat of it ill take a look for you guys
