IOS is compiles for specific hardware, unless you get an idevice running wp7 natively there's no hope it will be ported to the current wp7 handsets.

well here is one of the 1000's of "is WP7 possible on the Evo" threads in the Evo general section. Doing a search for windows would have yielded a bunch of these
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803726&highlight=windows&page=3
Actually guys, when it comes to WinMo I would also say why waste your time. Windows Phone 7 however is a different story. It's a really nice UI. That said, I believe it's just a nice UI. I haven't used the phone so I can't say it's a good OS or anything like that and since it's Windows vs Linux (Windows Phone vs Android which is based on Linux) I would say Android is better based on that alone. So I wouldn't discount it and say it's not possible or worth it. Those interested would just need to get enough developers interested because it would be a long hard road to do so. A very long, very hard road.
Why waste the time on the port. Its a nice ui but you can also recreate it on android. The market sucks on winmo. Im sorry I mean to say windows phone 7. This is almost as stupid as hearing the webos port people are doing. webos has hardly any apps. It doesn't even have shazaam. Why don't people just implument the only thing they loved from palm. And its the card multi task. Oh wait itchig thumb.

Gotta say a Windows Phone 7 launcher or WebOS launcher replacement would be truly awesome applications.
There really is no reason to bash the guy (and any of the previous requestors) about wanting to see a different OS on the Evo. Don't get stuck with "Fanboy Syndrome". If he, or one of the devs want to hash out a port, then it only benefits the community. It's one more check box we can put on the look what my phone can do and your iPhone can't list.
Personally, I wouldn't use it, but there are things I miss about WinMo and I can see why some people would want it. Some businesses only allow WinMo for work. So what's wrong with wanting an image one can flash during the day at work, then flip on a Nandroid of the user's favorite Android OS?
I REALLY miss having OneNote integration; however, that's not enough for me to make the switch. Yes, WP7 looks nice, but it can't even multi-task!!! Seriously? Just keep me with WinMo 6.5 and have a nice day, Microsoft.
I would also like to see this happen
Lets think about this: We have seen Android on WinMo, Linux on Android, Android on PC, OS X on PC, PC on Linux AND OS X, and our fellow XDAers are working on WebOS for Android(which I personally am excited about)
The answer to the !!WHY!!GRRR!! fanboy questions is simply BECAUSE WE CAN! You can't honestly say that if it was released you would not at least read the thread and look at the cool screen shots OR try it once, the whole point of XDA is pretty much "because we can".
Oh, and brush up on your WP7 info, engadget wrote an article on how Microsoft is now allowing apps to run in the background like they should have from the start, so I'm fairly sure that in the competitive mobile OS environment, multi-tasking is coming to WP7 soon.
You guys bashing on this guy are ignorant. Why did people port Android to hd2 or the iPhone. Answer is someone wanted it and they could. If he he wants wp7 so be it.

why is it not possible to port windows phone 7 on the desire hd, when it's possible to port it on the hd2?
It would be possible, it wouldn't be legal though. The Desire HD does not have a license to use WP7. That is the biggest hurdle. I don't think any dev here would want Microsoft Legal chasing them, plus it would be against XDA rules.

HD2 is a MS phone, so has MS drivers, DHD is not an MS phone (thank christ for that) so you'd have to start from scratch and why anyone would put the effort in is beyond me, especially when if it worked it'd attract the might of the MS legal department. Is it possible that the HD2 port relies on some MS development leaks even?

After using a Palm Pre for 2 years, and now my Epic for almost a year, there are still some things about webOS that I think are superior to Android. But it's just my opinion. I think there's room for others. =)
Since webOS is going open source, I dream of a day when all I love about webOS will be integrated into Android, and somehow Android will get some protection from all of the old Palm i.p. so that Apple will stop suing everyone. But it's just a dream.

You're probably right. As much as it would be interesting to port an open source webOS to other phones, the amount of work it would take, and the lack of commercial viability would make it a most unlikely proposition. Then again, there are some formidable developers in the webOS world that may do it anyway, just for the challenge if nothing else.
I think the more likely thing is that Android will absorb some of the good things about webOS, or, at least, some of those features will become options somewhere, either in the OS or in apps. In the past, I once thought that it may be reasonable to try make webOS into an Android skin or launcher. But, without the underlying structure of Luna and the API, it wouldn't really give you any of the real benefits of webOS.
Oh well. I love my epic, and CM9 is fun to play with. I have all the apps I missed on webOS. I'm happy.

Do you have a vendetta against someone? Did you get hurt recently? Now I'm beginning to wonder if you are the general troll on this forum. Maybe someone can shed more light, is this guy a troll? That's how I feel myself. Its very smooth and fluid. Similar how the ios runs. I think it would be pretty nice to have a port of it. But most devs have their hands full and most likely won't touch this. I'm aware of the open source nature of it, that's why I am wondering if its easier to port it.

I honestly dont think so. IF this is true then the reason this can be done is because Android is "open source". Apple's iOS is NOT open source so there would be all kinds of licensing issues and knowing Apple... they would sue EVERYONE for even THINKING about doing it... LOL...

Also, just because 2 phones use the same SoC doesn't mean they can run the same software without issue.
