When the S3 eventually gets the Jelly Bean update, do you guys think it'll come with Google Now or will Samsung still keep their proprietary S Voice in there instead?
Not sure but it would be cool if Samsung kept both.

I'm curious to know this myeslf. This is actually a decision maker on whether or not I should upgrade from my S1 (epic) to this or wait to see what else Sprint will come out with.
I would almost bet google now becomes downloadable within the play store when jellybean is officially released for this phone.

At the very least it will be downloadable here. I wouldn't be too concerned about wither or not you'll be able to use Google now since you already can.
I think once more devices get JB, Google will release it in the Play Store.
or I am sure someone will post an .apk and a workaround to get it to work
The latest version on FreeGS3 has it as an option to install. Works good
I uninstalled it for now, has some issues which will get better with time. If you install, do a nandroid, I couldn't find googlesearchbox.apk after uninstalling it.

I'd be stunned if Samsung removed Google Now from the JellyBean release later this year. No way Google will allow companies to strip out its main competitor to Siri. Plus, as mentioned in previous posts, there's already a workaround in place on ICS. I can confirm it's working very well on FreeGS3 0.8.1 as well.

I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean. I now have a GSIII running the same ROM as you (great ROM) and yes Google Now works on FreeGS3 0.8.1 but compaired to how it works on a Jelly Bean ROM I would not say it works very well. It does work, but no where near the same way it does on Jelly Bean.

It is so much smoother on Jelly Bean (on my Galaxy Nexus). I have not flashed one of the Jelly Bean ROMs for the SGIII but I might try one just to see how it runs on them.
Again it has nothing to do with FreeGS3, I think it has more to do with it being made for Jelly Bean and ported to work on ICS.
Edit: In fact I'm going to flash AOKP for the GSIII just to test Google Now on it. I'll post back in a few.
Edit 2: I forgot I ran my battery down to 6% testing how long I could go on one charge. As soon as it charges to 50% I'll flash AOKP.
OK, so I just got done flashing AOKP and Google Now works just like I remember from my Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean, silky smooth.
If you guys have some free time play with Google Now on an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM then flash AOKP Jelly Bean and you will see the difference I'm talking about.

Any idea who'd be fastest or what the turnaround time would be with adopting the Sammy ICS drivers? I know a stock rooted Rom usually drops fast but I haven't kept up with CM so I don't know where they're headed with the T989. I tried out one ICS ROM that worked well but the two snags (lag and vmail problems) I had were pretty major and had to go back to stock rooted.

That wouldn't be too bad I guess since I'd get wifi calling and still could remove bloat. CIQ would still be there though. Wouldn't that need Apex or another 3rd party launcher instead of the stock ICS version?
What I really want is a pure Nexus style vanilla ICS ROM. That may not be available until the source comes out. I was thinking devs could get at Samsung's ICS drivers and processes that make it more stable but that may take awhile.

It isn't! Just think when we were on 2.3 and we got that upgrade to 2.3.4 and then 2.3.5 and 2.3.7

That explains why the GUI isn't as drastically different
So jelly bean is coming out soon but ics camera is not ironed out yet.
Why most ics roms still have still camera issues (FFC) or smooth video playback or even recording? hasn't the necessary files been acquired since google is planning on releasing JB?
I just dont understand. When can we have ICS camera that works like GB cameras?
Miui got the camera to work on their ics roms
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
If miui got the ffc working on ics then it's probably not an hwa ics rom
The most common misconception among noobs is that developers are not working on fixing bugs just because they don't have a WIP thread or they're not updating you every 5-10 minutes. Most developers like to keep things private until they get ready to release it :good:
Another one is that, things are real easy like just swapping the camera.apk from a rom that has it working to another one in order to get things working...hahahahhaa
There's also priorities! Fixing Temple Run or instagram is usually at the bottom of the list when it comes to bugs for a developer....don't expect a developer to drop everything he or she is doing so that you can share pictures of your cat on instagram
The reason the FFC isn't working yet is because is not as easy as some of you guys think it is! This becomes even harder for a device that's EOL....instead of asking WHY is not working, you could be asking....what can I do to help the developers make it work!
Having ICS (4.0.4) with a working camera and HWA on a device that's 2 years old and was made for froyo/gb is an achievement on it's own! Instead of asking why things aren't working and possibly turning this thread into YET ANOTHER dev bashing thread, let's be thankful that we have the developers we do Things could go downhill if we start acting like iPhone users and start complaining because things are not fixed fast enough or when we want it......let's just chill out! Things like the FFC will come in time.......remember how long it took for us to even get HWA!
Also Jellybean will come sooner or later, someone will port it! I'm almost sure that it will come......whether that's Team D.I.R.T or Diablo or JMZ or some random dude that we've never heard of...IT WILL COME!! Now, let's stop with the GIVE ME NOW attitudes!
I'm not trying to sound all high and mighty here BUT it bothers me to hear people say "why hasn't this been fixed yet" or "the EVO 3D has this working, why can't we get it done" but nobody wants to step up and help out? Everyone wants to ask for ETAs and ask what's taking so long or demand every feature they can name on a rom BUT I don't see too many people offering to help.......just saying!
FYI guys, things like this can't be fixed by just swapping apps around or downloading an app from the Play Store.....I heard some guy (to remain nameless) say "why don't we just get the camera from the sensation so that way we can get FFC going" and almost died laughing...hahahahahahaha
I would **** my pants if someone got jb running smooth on the evo with almost everything working
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Am I the only person in the world that chose ICS over JB?
When I got my Nexus GSM, I instantly upgraded it to JB. Don't misunderstand me, JB was really awesome. However, simple and featureless... I supposed that's why people make ROMs, to build on what Google gave us.
Well, I like features, lots of features, so I installed AOKP M6. And I absolutely love that ROM, but I am wondering if there is anything comparable to it that's JB based. Guess in my mind I am waiting for AOKP JB ROM to move into couple milestone revisions...
AOKP's current builds can be found here:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30659-all-devices-in-source-aokp-jellybean-nightlies-update-nightly/
(Sorry for cross-forum posting...TeamKang is Rootzwiki exclusive now. I don't want to step on any toes by posting this thread on XDA)
They're lacking in comparison to the ICS builds...but if you check the change-log in the OP...it's got quite a bit.
But no, you're not alone.
I stayed on ICS a lot longer than most did. I only switched over due to my love of AOKP...and the fact that %90 of my "required" mods are already included. Except for the Remove NavBar option...but I've been making a flashable .zip for that since they were first released for personal use and for anyone else who wants it.
Nope. Recently downgraded again, see my signature. xD

I stayed on M6 until two days ago.
I finally thought JB had evolved enough.
Happy so far.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Some people just like it simple, that's part of why they chose to go with a nexus.
Android is beautiful.
I went the opposite way, at least for a time. I typically "require" the features found in CM, but ran Bigxie's stock builds for a few weeks and was very happy that way, just had to install a few apps to fill in the gaps, notification toggles, an app for profiles and quiet hours, etc... The overall feel of JB trumped that of ICS for me. For me even a vanilla JB build is better than a great ICS build with customizations, etc...
That said, I've been on a CM10 kang for 2-3 weeks now.
This thread makes no sense. You don't like ICS better. Its just that aokp happened to not merge everything yet. Once there is a JB equivalent are you still saying you'd stay with ICS?

I've been considering downgrading to ICS for the sake of having better Lightflow reliability. Even after the July 17 update, it's still not working right for me. Tried a bunch of options, nothing made too much difference.
I tend to go back and forth because HBOgo and MAXgo aren't compatible with jb yet. But that's the only reason to go back for me.

I stayed with ICS til less than a week ago, but I'm now running JB liquid. It has all the features I've grown accustomed to minus hold power key to toggle torch (which only worked 30% of the time anyway).
My only problem is auto brightness doesn't work as smoothly as on ICS (solved with a configurable brightness toggle), and GPS take about 15 seconds longer to lock. Both seem to be universal to JB.

Huge known bugs I have encountered.
1. when receiving a call or making a call, there will be no sound at all. this won't happen if you dial back or make the call again.
2. Bluetooth always get cut off for no reason.
3. when the phone gets into sleep mode ( overnight on charge ) loses internet or 4G info until reboot.
4. pressing the home button does not wake up the screen.
5. Camera does not auto shut off .
The title is kind of unfair to Jelly Bean, as these bugs are on a "leak" for your phone, but on the Google's Jelly Bean 4.1.1.
There is a reason why the official isn't out yet.

Hmm that's an outdated version of cm10. You should update to the latest and see if that resolves those issues. The gapps are current though so stick with that

Which Android Version / Samsung Version Do You Run And Why?
I decided to try to make this to help prevent that "What ROM is best for me question" and try to save the mods some time so they can do more important things than close those threads.
So my question to you is, which android version do you run? 4.0.4? 4.1.2? 4.2.1? 4.2.2?
Stock Samsung, Stock AOSP? (AOKP, CM, Pacman, Paranoid Android) or MIUI (or any non stock android AOSP ROMs.)
If using Samsung stock or stock based ROMs, which do you prefer? The LJ7 update? MA6? MB1? Or the leaked MC3 update?
Be sure to post why you use this, and which ROM if you want. Be sure not to offend anyone. Maybe this can help people use a different version, try something new, or just to help people find out what they would like to run!
Let it begin!

To start off, I run stock 4.1.2 (because I love jellybean!) Rooted on MB1. I am still on MB1 because I prefer official updates over leaks. (no offense to sextape, his leaks are awesome!)
I love cm10 4.1.2 but I stay on stock because it is the most stable and I need my phone to work.
Sent From My Rooted, S-OFF'd Blackberry Curve using the iOS XDA Application for Android.
Stock rooted 4.1.1 (LJ7) but with the MC3 modem. I know 4.1.2 is out (MB1) but i like my setup the way it is and not really in the mood to have to redo all my lil hicks here and there for a minuscule upgrade to 4.1.2.
Stock is always best in my experience, best battery life in my opinion, great performance, i like TWiz features, plus whatever "bloatware" i don't like i can always disable or remove. Ran a few CM's and AOKP's in the past and came away so disappointed (though very grateful for the awesome development).
(Guess i could always nandroid, TiBackup as well just in case, flash back stock recovery, and accept the dang OTA nag-ware, but i'm that lazy, plus if it isn't broken, don't fix).

It's not as snappy as 4.2.2 aosp/aokp due to bloat, but those roms just can't figure out how make BT hands-free dialing to work. And while S-Voice had quirks, at least it always worked.

i only ever go back to TW to update prl and maybe play around with whichever TW rom i decided to use, but i have yet to find one that feels as good or looks as good as AOSP does to me

What controls (most) of the look is the launcher. If you just want an AOSP-type look but TW features you can install Nova or Holo launcher
