If it is at all, ICS took some months before stable ROMS started showing up, so it would not be something you can expect right away

It isn't! Just think when we were on 2.3 and we got that upgrade to 2.3.4 and then 2.3.5 and 2.3.7
ICS and Jelly Bean aren't that far apart.......there's only about a dozen new features that make Jelly Bean different
I took a look at the framework-res.apk and a few other core apks and it looks like Google just added on to ICS instead of building Jelly Bean from the ground up BUT I'm sure someone will read an article over at Engadget and come in here and try to act smarter then me..hahaha

That explains why the GUI isn't as drastically different
So jelly bean is coming out soon but ics camera is not ironed out yet.
Why most ics roms still have still camera issues (FFC) or smooth video playback or even recording? hasn't the necessary files been acquired since google is planning on releasing JB?
I just dont understand. When can we have ICS camera that works like GB cameras?
Miui got the camera to work on their ics roms
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
If miui got the ffc working on ics then it's probably not an hwa ics rom
The most common misconception among noobs is that developers are not working on fixing bugs just because they don't have a WIP thread or they're not updating you every 5-10 minutes. Most developers like to keep things private until they get ready to release it :good:
Another one is that, things are real easy like just swapping the camera.apk from a rom that has it working to another one in order to get things working...hahahahhaa
There's also priorities! Fixing Temple Run or instagram is usually at the bottom of the list when it comes to bugs for a developer....don't expect a developer to drop everything he or she is doing so that you can share pictures of your cat on instagram
The reason the FFC isn't working yet is because is not as easy as some of you guys think it is! This becomes even harder for a device that's EOL....instead of asking WHY is not working, you could be asking....what can I do to help the developers make it work!
Having ICS (4.0.4) with a working camera and HWA on a device that's 2 years old and was made for froyo/gb is an achievement on it's own! Instead of asking why things aren't working and possibly turning this thread into YET ANOTHER dev bashing thread, let's be thankful that we have the developers we do Things could go downhill if we start acting like iPhone users and start complaining because things are not fixed fast enough or when we want it......let's just chill out! Things like the FFC will come in time.......remember how long it took for us to even get HWA!
Also Jellybean will come sooner or later, someone will port it! I'm almost sure that it will come......whether that's Team D.I.R.T or Diablo or JMZ or some random dude that we've never heard of...IT WILL COME!! Now, let's stop with the GIVE ME NOW attitudes!
I'm not trying to sound all high and mighty here BUT it bothers me to hear people say "why hasn't this been fixed yet" or "the EVO 3D has this working, why can't we get it done" but nobody wants to step up and help out? Everyone wants to ask for ETAs and ask what's taking so long or demand every feature they can name on a rom BUT I don't see too many people offering to help.......just saying!
FYI guys, things like this can't be fixed by just swapping apps around or downloading an app from the Play Store.....I heard some guy (to remain nameless) say "why don't we just get the camera from the sensation so that way we can get FFC going" and almost died laughing...hahahahahahaha
I would **** my pants if someone got jb running smooth on the evo with almost everything working

So I gave my GS2 to my wife because I was bored with the tired TW Roms that seem to be duplicated over and over again with this device on XDA. I have been out of touch for a few months, so my question is has someone finally perfected a real AOSP rom where everything works? The closest one was the CM7, but it was busted pretty bad. Has there been any developement or is this phone still just waiting for ICS to make it come alive?

The guys over here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778190) are doing a bang up job of getting Jelly Bean on the ol' Dinc.
I've upgraded to a Dinc2 and then a GNex, but keep all three... two with data plans, one only gets used as a bathroom VoIP phone, games, and access to my Google data.
Never know when you'll want to play Jewels or make a call when on the can. OK, OK... TMI.
In any case, you should get over to their thread and show some love. What they have now is almost a daily driver. If you can live with some minor glitches, it is a daily driver.

I built it using a combination of Evervolv/CM repos. Voice search and camera are the only two things that I know that aren't working.

Nope. I've already stripped out a lot of things I don't use from the build that I ran today and plan to keep it that way. Drk-hd is working on CM10 looking at his github and I'm sure he'll do a better job than I can do.

Correct. Basically everything that doesn't work in any other rom doesn't work here either. The only thing broken that does work in the others (to my knowledge) is voice search (it never stops listening to you).

I've got a stupid noob for you about your CM10 build. If I wanted to build my own from the CM source and I followed Drk-hd's instructions in his github, I'm not clear how to incorporate the Evervolv inc code. I see a line where he grabs his github directory for the inc. I think the line he refers to as finishing setting up the repo. Should I replace his with the respective evervolv repo?
sorry, might be a dumb question but I'm new to the whole Android source code thing. Just looking to make my own builds so I don't have to wait for everyone else's.
Thanks for any help you might share.

Albinoman's Jelly Bean ROM boots and runs already. It doesn't have HWA, so the animations are a little slow, but overall, performance is pretty quick. All of the main features work just fine, including Google Now. The only big issue afaik is the non-working camera.
BTW, the Dinc is only 2+ years old (released end of April, 2010), but still very impressive that our old phone can still run the latest Android OS.

EV said they had HWA working on the nexus one and the only changes for that lately have been kernel related and the kernel base is the same for the Inc. Considering how much faster and smoother this build has been since using the new kernel changes, I'm assuming that they are related. If there's more to come to gerrit, then hot dog. For now, I'm quite happy with JB on the inc and any additional speed/smoothness that comes will just be the icing on the cake.

At the IO google said that they would release JB developer tools for JB. So will we have the full potential of 4.1 JB?
I ask this because JB probably won't be released (offically) for our phone.
PS: do you think the performance boosts of JB will have an significant effect on our phone? It seemed to on the nexus.
Probably not. We don't have kernel source for ICS as it is, even though our phone is slated to get it, but I wouldn't count on it so getting JB to work on our phone is highly unlikely.

I'm 76% sure we will get ICS. They have it for the S and they said they would release it at the end of August.
You must consider that JB is just an updated ICS. So we don't need an offical JB to have it running 100%. And Google will have a dev tool out that may help us. Lastly they have a dump floating around. Chances are that we can use that to help us build a 100% working ASOP JB build. But this all depends on when or if we get ICS.
Can a dev jump in and let me know of my logic is correct

And you believe everything HTC and Verizon tells you...? that Dev tool is worthless if it doesn't include specific Dinc 2 files that goes once again back to kernel source. That dump isn't as useful to us as you think otherwise we would have fully working ICS on our phones from ICS dumps. Trust me, if it were as simple as you believe it is, our devs would have done it already. The situation with JB is pretty much the same as ICS if not worse since there is also the issue of resizing XHDPI JB to WVGA because there are no JB phones with WVGA resolution. Don't quote me on that last part, but I'm sure a dev can correct me or explain it better.

Nexus S will receive the update and it is a single core WVGA phone. So, I'll be looking closely on feedback from Nexus S users. That should give us an idea of the performance gains that we can theoretically expect, if any, over ICS. And there is no need to be overly cynical about HTC and their promise of giving us ICS. They said they will by August end and so just wait for it. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, you will just burden your mind with needless thoughts...

Its been clarified by reps at both HTC and VZW that what they meant was that the date is to be decided but that we will have it by the end of August. Take that for what you will, as I don't believe there has been anything official that clarifies this. I am pretty confident that we will get it and can only hope that we will get kernel source soon after.
Back to the OP's question, I highly doubt that we will have a 100% working JB rom anytime soon considering we still have issues on ALL of our ICS roms. Once we have official ICS our awesome dev's will probably be able to get JB working well pretty quickly.

HTC has to release kernel source regardless because of the Chinese OTA they released. It might be as late as October, but they have to release it regardless or else they'd be in violation of some law that has an acronym I can't remember.

OTA ICS will (should) help remove many of the small bugs we have with Camera etc... And once we get a hand on our kernel source, I believe devs will be knee deep in Jellybean goodness... The main reason why I am looking forward for the OTA is for the kernel source... Hell no I am going to go stock.. Once the kernel is up, I am gonna go with Nits' Sense 4 ROM!
The To be determined thing is crappy of them... They say on their FB page that the "Release Date" is the thing to be determined, NOT whether it gets ICS or not... which makes sense given it is in the table of release dates and given they previously confirmed to give it ICS... anyway, time will tell... No breaking my head on this...

Yeah, I should try that ROM too, sometime... I was wondering how functional it is... The Sense 4 ROM has some issues with GPS too (if you toggle it, it will not come back on). But I don't like how Sense 3.6 is.
Even if we don't get an OTA HTC still has to release source because of the Chinese and Inc S ICS OTA. That's why I don't understand why some of the other users are so anxious for an official OTA, even with these other OTAs flash timing appears to still have not been fixed, whatever that is I haven't had it happen personally (knock on wood). We all need to relax and just wait for source to be posted and let the devs do their thing.
On a different topic, anyone else thing the default sig on the XDA app is kind of redundant?

In my experience it was bugless (IC 3.6) although it was laggy. It was laggy in the wrong places (homescreen, and scrolling through certain apps) and smooth in the wrong places (app drawer, GP, settings).
You need to check it out

I agree, there were a few things that happened recently that have gotten us excited..... (The S getting ICS and JB)....... but we need to chill out. And in the mean time enjoy what we DO have, and not think about what we don't and might not get.
Funny thing is this thread only exists becuase of the recent changes.

Sorry if this is a retarded question, but since Samsung dropped the 4.0 source for our phone, and JB 4.1 source code was released, does this mean that people can start compiling fully functional Jelly Bean roms for the epic 4g touch?
If so, is anyone working on one?
You've got it wrong. The samsung source that was released is ICS kernel source. That doesn't really mean much for jelly bean.
There is work being done to try to port it nonetheless.

I thought that you can run roms on older kernels...for example, CM9 is currently running on a GB kernel. Since 4.0 and 4.1 don't have as big of a coding jump, couldn't you run 4.1 on a 4.0 kernel?

Um, CM9 is running on an ICS kernel. FF18 to be exact.

Oh...I thought the first few CM9's for our E4GT were running on a GB kernel, which is why people kept having soft brick issues. I guess i'm just uninformed. Sorry.

the first couple of ICS ALPHA builds i think was running a hacked together GB kernel, then when the first leaks of ICS drop for our phones thats when the devs started using the pre build kernels that came in the leak ROMs. ICS and JB still uses a 3.0 kernel so from the source that was release devs can make JB ROMs for our phone from it, thats what CM devs have been doing to get preview builds of JB/CM10 on some phones. anyone can correct me if am wrong because am still learning about these stuff lol....but i think thats it.
well team hacksung just released a preview of JB for the international gs2. So that means that they are making progress on it and it must'nt be all that much of a change from cm9 to cm10. as JB has been out for what, almost a month now. and some people are getting cm10 previews, alphas and betas. so it must not be that big of a change in kernels. Of course i could be completely wrong in all of this, just IMO. well probably have cm10 sooner than we all think. our devs are awesome.

Once our device becomes officially supported by CM we will be on the natural progression towards Jelly Bean.

After all this time....CM7 and CM9.....we still aren't "officially supported"???? What is stopping us?

Edit: I just looked up differences.... the only differences are .22 inches larger and 4 capacitive keys. I'm not understanding why it seems so difficult... please someone enlighten me.

Source built kernel, which is what they are working on stabilizing.

+1 Well there is a difference of radios but I also dont understand how minor differences can make it so difficult to port from. You would think with the exception of radios & different key mapping that the architecture of both phones are exact, but then again I'm not a dev so there's probably some factor in there I'm missing.

The screen size is a minor difference. But, cdma and GSM radio is the big issue when it comes to porting anything from the international to us. At least that's the impression I get from the many threads I read.

Ive been wrong before. i was wrong 3 times before lunch. im just speculating. whenever we get it is good for me. its ready when its ready.
Lets not forget half of our AOSP Developers do not even have this phone or acquired/reacquired the phone after the fact and do not have service on the device. Darchstar is no longer with Sprint and bought another E4GT with donations. Chris41G does not have the phone at all apparently.
Does anyone know if the Samsung epic touch 4g is going to get the jellybean OTA?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
If it's like ICS I would say you will get a good stable build from Cyanogenmod before Samsung does anything.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
No, we will not get Jellybean OTA, we were lucky enough to get ICS OTA, and the OTA ICS we did get is full of bugs and issues. AOSP is you're best bet.
Samsung did announce sg2, 3 and notes will all get jellybean. How quick sprint does an ota is different.

Jelly Bean OTA
Also, just to add.....If the GS2 for some reason does not get the full JB update, Samsung said they will release an update with different features from JB.
For those that followed the fh13 may find more info on the jb update from an inside source.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I dont see why not. The E4GT is still a high end phone and should be able to handle JB. But Sprint will most likely take a long time to roll it out and by then, we'll have a stable cm10 build
im pretty sure after all the gnex do. hell even the nexus s has it already
With the disaster that ics turned into I can't see jb doing any better.
The Epic is a high end gingerbread device, and will always be a top contender in the gingerbread arena.

I'm sorry but I'm tired of seeing you post the same thing over and over and over again. We all get it, you don't like ICS, or it doesn't work well for you, maybe it kicked your dog... something... be that as it may this is only your OPINION. You refer constantly to the ICS debacle. I'm not sure what this means, as ICS seems to work very well for the large majority of users around here. I'm sure at this point you be tempted to bring up what you think are bugs. Keep in mind these issues do not apply to the vast majority of users. Keep in mind that most of the people posting about how bad ICS is don't even understand why not doing a full wipe and keeping the GB app framework would cause the majority of the issues they are having. Keep in mind most of the people posting these issues seem to be allergic to research and problem solving skills, instead choosing to post "dis broke,y u no fix it for me naow!"The only issue I EVER had with ICS was sub par battery life until I took the time to set things up properly, then I was back to 18-24 hours to a charge with ~4 hours of screen time. Insofar as JB I've been running sbrissens aosp, it is fantastic, definitely an improvement on ICS and I can't wait to see how awesome it ends up given its useability in these really early alphas- I've had no problems using it as a daily driver....lastly as to why you think this is a "GB device" I just simply do not understand. The hardware in this phone is still better than 3/4 or more of the devices currently on the market. Are you telling me you don't think a class leader, like the e4gt, is capable of receiving an os upgrade ~7 months after its launch. Hell, until June this was still the best phone out. Hell, ICS runs awesome on the og evo and the damn hd2! The argument that this phone is a "gingerbread device" is just downright stupid, sorry.
I did not mean to flame you nor am I trying to be an ass. But I've seen you post the same thing so many times I finally had to say something. Your opinion is not fact.
And on topic yes I think we'll see official jb, I could care less though, other than for kernel source , I'm never leaving aosp/cm10/eventually aokp jb for anything... too good...

Is it the new 4.1 update? Because when I flashed it, it was horrible. It was also the Alpha 2. I kept getting lost signal, my 4G kept dropping, my phone stayed in Airplane mode when I turned it on. I kept having to do a reboot.
I don't think I'll be using CM10 until an Alpha 5. I'm running CM9 Alpha 6 and it's running nice for me now.

All those issues have been mostly fixed in the alpha build. There's little to no reports on LOS now. I suggest you give it a try again, you're missing out
I guess Google Voice Dial is still broken and that's a Google issue that only they can fix. If so, that and the small and dark desk dock screen are enough to keep Jelly Bean from being a daily driver for me on any phone.

Eh... I'm afraid. LoL!! Little to no reports? I'm afraid Ima be that one. I don't feel like I'm missing that much. I have a Nexus 7, and I have Google Now installed. That's all I really wanted from Jelly Bean, Google Now. I can really care less about everything else. LoL!! I mean my phone's running smoothly now.
I'll give it a try though. Wouldn't hurt.
