What is the best overall rom - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App

There's no best "overall" ROM.
Some ROMs are excel in some areas, while others excel in other areas.
Your best bet is to..well..try them all.

2.3.x - CyanogenMod7
2.2.1 - WildPuzzleRom

absolutely right.you could only narrow down your search a bit by defining some true needs (like speed, size, theme chooser etc) and/or cons (e.g. max size, special requirements, ...) but in the end putting hands on some roms is the only way to go

lol - you forgot about the 23 others, guys
If it was that easy which product / brand / software was the best for everyone we all would drive one type of car of the same brand, use the same computers, mobiles, underpants, watch only one TV show, listen to just one band and have one dictator ruling over our dull, boring and useless lifes
If all ROMs besides CyanogenMod, WildPuzzle and Oxygen were just worse noone would use them on a daily basis

Actually I was going to ask the same question!!
Guys help us out here.

And which rom has best based on antutu score?
If U ask me that for wildfire s I could tell U but.... Help US...

For battery I would recommend lewa rom. But it all depends on the use. There is no best rom. Its all personal preference.

Like saadislam already said: not easy to say - depends on too many different factors to give a straight answer. I'm very satisfied with LeWa regarding performance & battery but the latest port (based on Cyanogenmod 7.2 stable) is really fresh - there might still be some bugs. If you want something really stable to flash straight away with no hassle CM7 would be a good choice, too. It can easily be trimmed to remain battery-friendly.
From the performance side I'd definitely recommend to think about custom mtd partitions as the available memory of our little old Buzz is a true show stopper for space and performance (link in my sig).

Also my phone is not rooted, so if you could give me link to rooting page and fully working latest cm7, i would be very thankful!

because its fastest and lightest rom, it wont lag, than rem 2.2.1 or cm7, not talking about cm9 or miui. gaming is fastest, everything better, im having wildfire more than one year, and tested so many roms so i think i have some experience about them

Oxygen, oxygen, oxygen......... Pmsl its stripped down so its bound to be fast, i bet i can get any full working rom on here just as fast as your oxygen.

I don't know what games you're playing but please take in mind that the Wildfire is really limited: no GPU, not the fastest processor, limited in RAM,... so a smooth ROM with decent gaming performance - that's a hard task.

You shouldn't ask which is the best ROM, because that could offend devs.
After all, they've all put loads of hard work into making great ROMs for you.
If you want to try ICS, CM9 is for you.
If you want the fastest ROM there is, check out an AOSP ROM, like Oxygen or CM7. Most AOSP ROMs are on 2.3.x.
If you like Sense UI ROMs, check out RemPuzzle. Leaf r3, whilst no longer in development, is pretty fast as well.
If you like Sense UI on 2.1, check out...the stock 2.1 ROM

Guess you're right with that, too, but apart from that the question is just nonsense - like "What is the best Operating System - OSX, Ubuntu or Windows 7" - each of it has its pros and cons depending on what you gonna do with it (and how you configure it).

[Q] Why Root phone when I'm on Gingerbread already?

Is there even a point rooting my phone when its already Gingerbread? can someone tell me the general features I can get, and what are the best roms out there if i do root? thanks
The point of rooting is to open up a whole new world of customization. Once you root your phone, you can do a lot LOT more with your phone than you can now.
Just look at the choices of roms you'll have.
Believe me, rooting your DHD will be the best thing you'll do to your phone.
And as far as custom roms are concerned, there is no such thing as 'the best rom'.. it all depends on personal choice.
If you like the idea of trying different roms then you'll need to root.
You can get an idea from the screenshots in the ROM threads of how different your phone experience can be with custom roms.
(I started out rooting just for an easier way to take screenshots.)
Here is a page of screenshots from the CyanogenMod 7 rom I had on my phone a while back (plus some other wallpapers). As you can see, it is quite different. It's worth trying different roms if you like to tinker and improve the experience, be it visual, performance or whatever.
It can become an addiction or distraction though, so be warned. Good Luck.
It most certainly can become an addiction and distraction. I've got exams to worry about and my mind keeps going back onto this lol

One word - Customisation.
That's why you should root and try out different ROMs find out the mix that suits you perfectly rather than sticking to what HTC TELLS you you want.

The is no best rom. Each has specific features, so you have to test what works best for you.
Popular roms are Android Revolution HD, CyanogenMod, Leedroid, Rcmix, MIUI, Coredroid etc...

With a rooted phone, you can get total control of your phone,
With stock ROMs they have limited some functions, but once you rooted you can get rid of those limitation. For simple example, you cant take screenshots of your phone without rooting.
And secondly you can install custom ROMs on your phone and even overclock your processor.
Hope this helped,
Thanks!
As pointed out, you can overclock your phone. The DHD can run up to 1.9Ghz !
I normaly have mine running anything up to 1.6
Plus overcocking means that the phone can be underclocked for when the screen is off, saving battery.
As for ROM's. I have traditionally always run CyanogenMod as it's a nice, slick, fast experience.
If you try CM, then don't forget how much you can customise your screens using different 'Launcher' apps. I use ADW Ex but Launcher Pro is another popular one and there's plenty more. Most have downloadable themes(skins) too.
Oh, and if you really want some fun, try one of the new full Sense 3.0 rom's to see how fansy sense can get. I'm running Virtious Unity at the moment and it's the first Sense ROM I've run since I first rooted the phone ! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115312
But as stated elsewhere - beware, flashing becomes addictive

Thanks guys I will have a look at screen shots of both ROM's although battery life is a big issue for me so is stability and customization.
Try Galnet MIUI stable. They have an awesome performance and a great battery life (currently running at 1-4 mA in idle.)
If you don't like the iphone-ish UI, try another launcher like Launcher Pro.
I do what i want, because I can.
MIUI is based on CM7, iv'e played with a friends DHD who has CM7 installed its just too bland and stock... Sense is way superior IMO and the Sense camera is 100x better than the CM7 offering + iv'e seen screens of MIUI (looks like iOS lol) Definatly dont want that. BUT Thanks anyway dude.

There is no such thing called a perfect ROM. What suits my necessities best does not mean that it lives up to your expectation. The battery n stuffs like this are related to how one uses his/her phone, not on the ROM itself (well a little, maybe).
That being said, try one by one yrself n find out one that suits you based.

[Q] HTC Desire - Girlfriend ROM and apps?

I just bought the SGS2, and my girlfriend is getting my old HTC Desire.
She tried it for a week, with Oxygen ROM and while generally happy with it, she was underwhelmed and annoyed with a few of the more obvious warts of stock android 2.3. The crappy dialer and the crappy keyboard, to name a few.
I then installed a lot of GO apps on it, GO Launcher EX, GO Dialer, GO Widget etc.
While these are in some respects better, they have other issues.
I am now considering if a ROM with Sense would be a good compromise for her. I will not give her the latest stock 2.2 ROM from HTC, I want her to have 2.3. So it would have to be a 2.3 ROM with Sense on it. And I don't even know which version of Sense. I have only really worked with the one in the stock 2.2 ROM from HTC. I think it is Sense 1.9?
So, can you guys recommend a 2.3 ROM with Sense or a 2.3 ROM and some good core apps (dialer, keyboard, sms/texting etc.) that is girlfriend-friendly?
Thanks in advance
I'd recommend one with the Sense 3.0.

I would recommend a ROM with Sense 2.1/3.0 (Hybrid) because the Sense 3.5/3.0 ROMs are a bit too much sometimes for the Desire as I read and heard (in case of lags and so).
But Runnymede is recommended very often.
So I would go with Revolution or InsertCoin which I self am using since a few months and i'm quite happy with it.

And I really dont get the point why you always have to bash the other Roms except Supernova's. Supernovas Rom sure is great but there also other good ROMs (even with Sense 3.0/3.5). They are maybe that not stable and so on but the Users also have different preferences. For some eye-candy is the most important feature, for other it is stability and speed.

Not that I don't bash just supernova, I don't bash either of the Sense 1.9 roms, aosp roms, or even roms which are broken and are advertised as such.
And I have no beef with roms or their developers, but with idiots that turn every rom recommendation thread into this. OK, you're free to do whatever you want, but you can't come and write "Sense 3.5/ICS , this, this, this and this doesn't work, but it's perfect".
As far as I'm concerned, the scale goes like this: unusable - bad - average - good - perfect. I hope meaning of perfect is self explanatory?
If the op states that he is giving away his phone, Sense 3.5 roms don't have nothing to look for here. Giving away phone with some of it's features severely limited is insanity.
It is you Sense 3.5 users who mixed up priorities here, not I. If the thread was titled "most eyecandy" rom I'd be silent.

I wasn't giving the OP a recommendation for a Sense 3.0/3.5-ROM, I was recommending him a Hybrid (2.1/3.0). And this I can do with pure conscience because the ROM I'm using right now (InsertCoin) is way faster than the Stock-ROM that was originally on the Desire and i havent experienced anything thats not working yet (no reboots, no failures, ... everything is working fine).
Yeah, maybe the Sense-ROMs you are not bashing are a bit faster than the ISC and Revolution Hybrids but there you have an uglier ui, so you have to balance.
Maybe you should testing a Hybrid for yourself because now you are just assuming things.

I want her to have 2.3, and there is no good official 2.3 ROM from HTC. So I guess I might as well try a girlfriend-friendly 2.3 ROM, preferably one that "just works" and that I don't have to help her with a million times. If you can recommend such a ROM, it would be great.
I agree with you that eye candy is not the most important thing here. Usability and stability is. Unfortunately, stock android have usability issues with simple things such as the dialer and the keyboard. And Android 2.3 is a must.
I will never buy her an iPhone, so that's not an option.

Best ROM?... You decide which is best for you... err your friend... Go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318 to see them listed.
Enjoy!
Tell us a bit about what kind of experience does your friend need?
Speed? Customization? Stability?
he has the stock rom on his phone... i think he wants a full fixed rom with more smooth and speed than stock! thanks!
ps. what's the way to flash rom on this phone? =)
Well, everything is better than stock, believe me! It's a matter of choice, but more ppl prefer Cyanogen, because it's a who organisation of developers and many hours of hard work behind it, it sure is pretty complete. I'd suggest taht, but he shoudl check out all of the available roms, as danny said, it's a matter of choice.
First of all, you have to decide if you want Sence rom or something else.
The best sence rom is probably RemPuzzleRom, its faster, but it looks nearly the same as stock.
other good option is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458749 i've tried it and it is really fast and stable, looks like vanilla android 2.3.7, there is also stock android launcher.
Cyanogen is also really great rom. Fast, stable and customization is the best.
If you want something on the edge. I'm using CM9 right now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473344 I thing it is pretty usable, but there might be still some bugs.

Before Virtuous Team released their 3.0 kernel, there was no much choice for me but to go for gingerbread.
Image quality is an important factor for me when flashing a ROM and AOSP/AOKP versions never succeed
to satisfy me. Perhaps it's the camera-chip but when using, for example, LC's IceColdSandwich my images
have a lot of noise, blurriness and shakiness (same for other ICS ROMs). Touch-to-focus is something I
cannot live without as well and best support for that is found from Sense 3.5 Camera application.
Now that I have an option of going for full Sense 4.0 with a working camera, that's what is most likely
to become my new "number one". If you like your UI to be 'fluid' and fast-responding, you might not want
to install the Virtuous Infinity just yet but wait it to proceed to beta-stage. ICS is just awesome when you get
the full Sense experience with it! Among Sense 3.0-3.5 ROMs mike's ARHD with RC3D-tweaks is my
absolute favorite. It is the smoothest Sense ROM around and has awesome performance.
What comes to nonsense (he he) ROMs: I've tried quite a few of them, but the features (such as camera)
arejust not as rich as with Sense. Surely you get a better performance but for what? If you don't run on MIUI,
you phone will very likely end up looking pretty ugly with all the old version of apps and launchers from
wherever. MIUI looks nice but I don't like the apple concept, which means no appdrawer and eyecandy over
usability. If you don't mind great looking themes and like the idea of downloading an appdrawer from the
store, MIUI might be the thing.
To make it short:
Virtuous Infinity Alpha1 if you want the full Sense 4.0 with a working camera but don't mind little lagginess.
Android Revolution HD if you're not so much into ICS and like to have a good performance and response.
MIUI if you like your device to look good, not to drain too much battery, and to feel like an apple product.
IceColdSandwich if you want a fast, reliable and finished ICS ROM with stock look and a plain camera.
Hope this is any help to you. Happy flashing!

I have downloaded Coredroid to try (I think battery power might be an issue there)
also downloaded Energized
I agree I wouldn't install a rom without all features working, Well I reckon I'll give the ICS ago at least see how she blows!!! If its not my cup of tea, I like your idea on the Android Revolution HD,

Have tried Android Revolution HD as well, I found it to be a good choice as a daily rom, without bugs.
Will have to try Virtuous Infinity Alpha1

I will have to try Virtuous Infinity Alpha1 as a stable ROM, I have been using JellyBeen by randomblame (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778202). His ROM is working great so far but is still far from a finished build.
I have tried Andriod Revelution HD

I tried Revolution HD on my DHD since lunch time today, and I have to agree that its simple and is powerful, battery good too! I'm intrigued, not sold! Does anyone else have the same thought, that the settings in notifications would be much better with a lot more settings and with the shortcut when you press and hold down a setting in notifications, it takes you through to contols of that function in the main settings!
Something so simple yet saves so much time! I find that odd, I am hoping 7.0.4 isn't the most recent version, haha, besides that, so far impressed by Revolution HD, seems great

LOL teichopsia why you scaring the guy for
OP, just flash the ROMs you think would be the best for you. Generally people start with Cyanogenmod and go from there. Try the BlackICE ROM, it's pretty cool for a GB ROM. Ice Cold sandwich is the best is ROM at the moment. Or, if you're like me and want to have the breeding edge software, JellyTime is Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.1) which even the GS3 doesn't have yet (although the ROM does have one or two quirks to it

Lol.... It seems that I was in a bad mood that week. Besides that there was a bunch of new members posting the same questions one after the other.
In other words,
I was being sucked down an infernal abyss, until a few members posted comments, links on being helpful. Reminding me what is was to be new.
Go on over to the inspire section and test out absolution. Let me know what you think.

Well Seems I may have missed one during my cleaning.
Ok OP the reason no one can give a straight answer is because there really isnt one. Each device will work differently even when running the same rom. This is due to personal apps and set ups. Not to mention the different hardware in each device. Not all devices are made equally. The best advice you will get is to find a few that you think look good (lmao) and try each one out for a few days. Then before you try a new one make a nandroid backup so you can easily go back. Then make up your own mind on what is the best rom for you.
Just remember to to read the thread a bit for any issues you may come across.
