[Q] Best Dinc ROM for (stable and battery life)

Hey guys, just wondering what the most stable (fewest bugs) ROM available right now is. I am also wanting to extentd my battery life. I have a rooted stock 2.2 SLCD Dinc. I know that some things work differently on the SLCD versions than on the AMOLED versions.
I have recently come from an eris and had a great support group on the eris xda section. Since the eris has been around a lot longer than the Dinc it was easy to tell what ROM's were widley used due the activity on that thread. It is not as easy in the Dinc threads because they are so even in numbers.

i love the true vanilla roms like ruby and CM but im not sure if you would consider them 100% stable and i know theres been problems with the SLCD screens

as far as stability.. the Virtuous rom is basically the stock rom with a few user friendly options to tweak things.

I have had the best experience with skyraider's roms, I like the CM6.1 RC's but always get better battery life with skyraider.

Myn's Warm RLS 3 is the best I've ever used. It is pristine. 2 days of battery life, no FC's, awesome speed.

what kernel are you using? im on ziggys but theres no way i could ever get 2 days out of my battery with low to moderate use

2.32.17 stock kernel. Seems to be really nice.
Special note though, the use of games will drain that sucker like a vampire victim.

Yeah I agree with you on that. I'm using Virtuous 3.1 which comes with the new htc kernel and it's blown my mind on battery life and charging times.

The cool thing about roms is the ability to backup and install brand new ones with no risk of really messing anything up. Try them all and find out which you like best. I try a new rom everyday practically... I'm on Myn's right now but I'm probably about to go back to rEVOlution... or Incdoes' Desire Z.... The choices...

Don't sweat over which one to go with, try them all and then decide for yourself. Once you try one or two you will become hooked and you'll be changing rom's on a daily basis and your girlfriend will be yelling at you because you're always messing with your phone....

HAHA, yes! I thought I was really the only one. I was like, baby, you're being stupid, no one else cares.... guess I was wrong. It used to be changing phones all the time, but once I got an incredible, I haven't had the desire to change hardware, just software...
Glad I'm not the only one, kinda makes me feel more like a man now.

gfs and rom flashing
man, same here....i think at 11pm no one is going to call me and i can finally flash the rom i've been waiting all day to flash, but boom! gf calls and im like damn. lol. then i spend another hour trying to make it look like how it was before i flashed, ex: download the apps (i still have learned how to use titanium backup to restore the apps), put icons in their places, login all the apps, setup emails, etc....and by the end of the week, new version of a different rom is out and i wanna flash that now.

My wife WANTS an incredible, but she HATES my phone. Shes always saying "Why cant you just PICK ONE and GO WITH IT. Im SO TIRED of your LOVE AFFAIR with your PHONE!"
Shes grown to tolerate it over the year. Kinda.
But back on topic, the ones i tried and liked so far have been
Sense: Uncommon Sense, Myn's Warm, and anything with hey its lou
AOSP: Cyanogen is great on battery, Ruby is nice and smooth, and I've liked the stuff from IncDoes.

To be honest, I don't think that the ROM affects your battery life that greatly. The kernel and what applications your running has a much greater effect. For example, I found that I got the best battery life with either an AOSP ROM, or a Sense ROM with Rosie removed (keeping all the other parts of Sense intact, just replacing Rosie with ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro). Also, LiveWallpapers destroyed my battery.
That said, stability is definitely affected by your ROM. SkyRaider seemed okay, but I had my phone wipe itself one morning, which someone else confirmed as being an issue. My personal best experience has been with Redemptive rEVOlution. Great theme, not much bloat, and nearly bugfree.

New User, advice on ROM?

Just got an EVO tonight, I would have liked to wait for 3D but I needed faster internet/phone asap since I started my new job.
I've been reading the forums, how to root, etc. the past couple of days, and am in the process of rooting. But there are just so many ROMs all which have there own pros/cons, so I was wondering if anyone had advice based on what I mainly want to use my phone for...
CM7 seems like the most popular, and I care mainly about stability, removing bloatware, and performance, care less about visual stuff. Plus it sounds like you can customize it with themes anyways.
But I've read threads where GPS/4G breaks which is what I care about the most.
I live in OC which has 4G, and that is the primary reason I upgraded from my old phone. 95% of the time this phone will be used for internet/games.
I was debating just going for a stock ROM, but not sure if benefits of a custom one outweighs stock ones.
Does anyone have advice on a stable ROM that improves performance and has little risk of breaking things like 4G? Or at least a few I can narrow down to?

Normally I would suggest MIUI, but since you need 4G either go with CM 7 or if you want to stick with a Sense based ROM I would suggest MikFroyo. Hope that helps and good luck with the new job.

If you want to keep your stock rom you can also just search root uninstaller on the market and get rid of any bloatware on the stock rom.

CM7 is the way to go friend...

Thanks for the replies. I thought I'd get the CM7 suggestions. I'm assuming RC4 is the version I want?
The only issue I had was that I saw in the known issues that some people were experiencing problems with 4G/GPS, so I wasn't sure if that was a widespread issue or not.

cm7 is an awesome ROM, dont get me wrong... if its your first rom troubleshooting may be a hassle because until it becomes an official release there will be bugs to deal with.
my suggestion would be look in the development thread and try a simple sense based rom first and read its threads (or even cm7 for that matter) to see what people are reporting about it.

I switch between my own stock backup and CM7. CM7 is the way to go if you are looking for a different rom. It is basically stable. I have found nothing wrong with it.

MIKFROYO is great, but have been running Koni's Elite 111 with Honeycomb Dream theme for over a month...AWESOME...STABLE...FAST using netarchy 4.3.2 cfs sbc havs less

I was wondering this myself last week and what I found out is that once you see how easy it is to switch roms you'll be testing out a bunch of them and keep finding yourself returning to a particular one for one reason or another... and that's the one I stuck with. I ended up using Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo but I'm sure I'll be trying out a couple more today

Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS5. It's fast, stable and everything works and it's very customizable like any other Android device.

lol I know right. Basically my old company was cool with everything as long as I got my work done so I never really needed to use internet on my phone as much. Have a good gaming rig at home and was always at my desk at work.
My new job is with at a larger corp. (like 3,000 people) and has way more rules and regulations. My boss doesn't care and always goes on his phone or reads the paper in his freetime, but it's a company rule. So I wanted something that I could go online with
Anyways, I rooted and installed CM7 last night, it was quite easy. I haven't had any problems but I did like certain things with the stock Sense UI better. Maybe I'll try some other ROMs suggested here since it was so easy.

I gotta agree that, I've use MIUI, CM6 (not 7), fresh, and researched but not used MikFroyo, and my favorite right now is Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS5 w/o a doubt. It has everything you would want in a SENSE based ROM. Then, I'd also download the launcher pro that's right on that same thread, it adds a ton of additional customization that is great.

If you want a stock look but a bit faster and possibly better battery life check out Calkulins evio series 2 its on version 1.8,by far my favorite sense rom.
If you want aosp gb rom very stable really fast,gps works for me but with all gb aosp its different from user to user.Try salvage mod on version 1.1 though 1.2 is coming soon.

I'm running the new CM7 Final, and I love it. I was using the nightlies and the RC's, and they were all great for a daily driver. Now CM7 Final is out? To me, this can't be beat.

[Q] Help with ROM choice, bear with me please

I need a Gingerbread/Sense ROM with and emphasis on stability. Close to stock would be best though it isn't paramount. I realize that ROMs are like beers, you get a different opinion on which is best depending on who you ask. The circumstances just don't allow me to try out a whole slew of ROMs.
A good friend's wife has an EVO 4G (I have a Sensation, G2x & HD2) and is having trouble with stability. I suggested we root it and slap a custom ROM on it. While they were over I rooted it and got everything ready to back up and slap a ROM on it. Problem is I am unsure as to what ROM to put on it. Yes, I could try out several ROMs to find one that works but this isn't going to go well at all. The reasons should be obvious for anyone who is married. This is magnified by the fact that I would only have access to the phone maybe once every other week. I need a silver bullet for this one.

I'm currently running synergy w/o sense lockscreen. Loving it. I've had no problems with stability.

Try EVO classic Rom. It's based off the latest stock Rom. It's fast and so far no trouble for me.

Thats the one. I used to use Synergy to but I found it to be a bit slower than MikG and Mik sees more updates.
If you go Synergy RLS1 is the newest version. RC2 is older and was an unofficial release I believe. I never had a problem with the lock screen on Synergy.

I've found Mik Roms to be the most stable as well as be current with the latest updates. Myn's Roms are excellent as well.

1. If she is having a problem with stability on a stock unrooted Evo then she needs to backup her information and just do a factory reset.
2. Trying out several ROMs is required because phones react to various ROMs differently. I can tell you that a certain ROM plays well with my phone but it may not play quite as well with yours. Then comes the issue of kernels. Kernels have a large impact on the phone's stability as well.
3. Tell your friend to do his own homework on how to get her phone up and running or have an affair with her so that you can see her more often and get more opportunities to test ROMs/kernels on her phone.

What version of Sense would you prefer?

I ran AOSP and CM ROMs on my G2X. Eaglesblood with Faux's kernel. CM and AOSP ROMs are actually my preference for Android in general. I am not a huge fan of Sense, it has some nice apps but its too confining. This isn't my phone though.

The EVO 4G has 2.5 by default I believe. I run the leaked 3.5 on my Sensation and it has some improvements over 2.5 and a couple over 3.0. If there is a very stable and fully functional ROM with 3.x that would be better. Stability and functionality still trump everything else though.
They mentioned that Netflix has to work as they use it often. Skype working properly with video would be good as well.

i agree AOSP Roms are a lot better, smoother, and allow for more customization, that's why the thread i made in my sig is only about them and not about sense based roms. plus whenever an ICS rom comes out it'll be AOSP

[Q] Custom ROM vs Stock ROM - is it really that much faster?

I bought my GSII used, already rooted, with a custom ROM already loaded on it.
I have to ask - since I never used one with a 100% pure stock ROM - is it really THAT MUCH faster with a custom?
I am currently running Juggs 5.0 - but if I went back to 100% stock would I feel that much difference?

It's not really about speed. But with a custom ROM you definitely have more customizations possible. You can change the look of the interface, the notification toggles, colors etc. I have the i9100, which is another variant of the SGS2 and I've had ICS for a couple of months now, but it's not getting officially released until this month some time. So, it's not really about speed but rather about the freedom to do other things with it. Some people might cite benchmark tests, and scream that I'm wrong, but the hardware is what makes your phone fast...the software's not at all going to choke that out (whether stock or custom). As far as speed goes, you're probably not going to notice the difference.
Also, though you've got root access which enables you to install apps and do things you just can't do otherwise.
All that said, there are certain advantages to stock. It's often times more stable than something custom. There are ups and downs. If you feel the need to experiment, you can always flash back. Just read a lot before you get your feet wet (it is very possible to brick your device if you muck it up) and you'll be fine.

I don't think so. I'm going to get flamed plenty I'm sure but I don't see much improvement over how my phone performed out of the box. I think the battery life may even have been better before I started flashing stuff.

I should have stated in my original post - I am definitely not a n00b to Android or to flashing/rooting. I can understand the customization aspect, but honestly other than flashing, I have never had a real use for Root access.
I can flash something with a new custom interface or colors and always end up coming back to something that has the stock look about it... In this case, I've tried almost every available custom ROM and keep coming back to Juggs .
I ask about speed though because all the ROM cooks seem to try to use that as a selling point... "FAST!" "Butter smooth!" blah blah blah ...

After I posted, I looked at your tag, and assumed as much with 700+ posts, you've been around the XDA block.
Really? No need for root?! I'm a flashing junkie (well, okay, that's exaggerated. it comes and goes in spurts) TitaniumBackup is my friend. Also CWM is a gift.
Agreed, stock ICS is love. But I do also like certain tweaks, i.e. the %-battery indicator (and while we're on the subject, I've got a little Android logo with a % indicator for my battery...I wonder why Android devs don't include little things like that).
Yeah, your best bet is to try some out. But IMHO devs talk too much in that regard. I'll probably get flamed if any read this, but devs are kinda like used car salesmen in that regard. They've got a product that they want you to use, so they try to sell it. Can't say I blame 'em, really. But again IMO, most of it's hype.

I didn't think you were new to Android since your account is almost 4 years old so I'd assumed you were familiar with all the "benefits" of rooting. The phone is so nice out of the box I don't think any of the roms are any smoother or better on battery. I think Warfare is probably the best on battery and for me CM7 was easliy the worst. I didn't notice a change in data speed, 2d smoothness, 3d smoothness, battery cover smoothness... Nothing. The device is so nice out of the box and I don't use it for anything other than a phone, text messaging, web browsing, e-mail, Skype, the occasional slicing of fruit or a word or two with friends so I can't comment on all the added functionality all the "super-duper heavy users" of this device probably use on custom roms. The only reason mine is rooted is for an ad host file and the occasional tether.

When I had a Fascinate... I was a huge fan of overclocking and undervolting. The same when I had a Thunderbolt. It made everything smoother and the Thunderbolt especially needed help in the battery area. This device just works. No need for anything other than what it came with for me. Obviously that didn't stop me from flashing the development section... But hey, I have a problem.

Warfare is very good.but,no advantage so far.
For me,im back on stock.just works better for me (doesnt mean I wont have a flash attack).

the thing with our device is that it came sooo sick straight out of the box that you don't really need to improve it that much. However, custom ROMs/kernels generally make the ROMs smoother, but not many people notice the difference.
I actually notice that because of the kernels implemented with certain ROMs, our phone is able to RUN just as smooth at a lower clockspeed which saves us battery. Other than that, I don't think Custom ROMs are actually "SMOOTHER" or faster than the stock ROM because Samsung really did well on this phone.

I'm going to look for a ROM that is close to stock as possible but rooted... try it for a week and if I can.live with the speed I'm going back to stock via Odin.

The main difference is the bloatware which really does make an impact on speed, memory consumption and overall smoothness.

Some rom cook faster, you should choose the rom cook by team have many vote on forum.

I was just going to start a similar thread actually. I have watched videos of the different ROM's that we can install on the T989 variant to get an idea of what's available and what I like. Currently SlickMOD ROM looks the smoothest with the best battery life.
Having said that, in the video that I saw, when quadrant was run on SlickMOD, while it was overclocked, the score was approx 2690. When I ran Quadrant on my Stock ROM (rooted Stock ROM without being overclocked either) I got a score of 3199. Also, after 16 hours of use I still usually have more than 50% battery life.
Other than the options for different themes and customizations and ROM control, are custom ROMs going to provide better performance and battery life than what I am already receiving with my Stock? Generally speaking (I don't own this device) stock ROMs will normally get better battery life. Custom ROMs can approach stock, in this regard, but I'd be way beyond surprised if a cook made a ROM that had better battery life than Google's team of Android developers.

Problem with SlickMOD is that the dev's T989 broke and he isn't getting another one - so - development has HALTED.

Makes sense, just for fun I ran Quadrant again on my Stock Rooted ROM and got a 3358. Maybe I should reconsider switching to a different ROM for now. Stock is very stable with no real issues/concerns. thanks for the response.

It's the Stock ROM that came with my phone. I rooted the phone but haven't flashed any custom kernel's or custom ROMs on my phone. I also use Zeam Launcher as opposed to the TW Launcher by default. I have turned off animations, limited my homescreens to 3. I don't use too many widgets and I use an all black background. Also running Juice Defender to help with battery but I don't think that affects performance/speed.

I don't know if that helps or answers your question. Hope that helps.

I'm willing to bet that the performance gains that are being seen on the Stock ROMs is due to the fact that they are ODEXed. By DeODEXing the ROMs can be customized to the cook's heart's content, but there is a mild performance hit taken.

New HTC 10 - which ROM?

Just bought myself a new HTC 10 from DWI that arrives today from Hong Kong. I'm sure it's going to be full of bloatware I dont want so I'm looking at flashing something else that is close to stock, if not stock android. It looks like Viper10 or LeeDroid are the two best options (as far as I can tell).
- What are the main differences between the two?
- Which one would I be better off with?
- How long would it take to install them?

Viper gives more customization and Lee gives speed and stability imo. I can't tell you which is better off which since it depends on your behavior using the phone. The installation process won't take more than 30 minutes, the complicate part is rooting and flashing recovery etc..

Sounds like Lee would appeal more to me. Just started using the phone though and its amazing, no bloatware at all. Just updating to Nougat now and cant fault it - wondering if its even worth going through the hassle to root and flash it etc.

why shall our rom not be stable? We have much customizations yes, but when you install the rom, you have a pure stock look and behavior at the beginning...it's up to the user to customize.
We don't force any user use any of our customization if he does not want to....and those customization don't make the rom not running stable.
I would say all sense roms that come with a stock kernel are running stable.

I guess everyone sees and lives thru ROMs differently. People tend to think that a feature packed ROMs are usally less stable, since they have to have loads of processes and stuff running in background, which in turn results in a FC or crash every now and then. Thus, lighter ROMs are being considered more stable :silly: Just my opinion, I'm still full stock, can't decide what to flash

Nope.Viper is as stable as LeeDroid since they are stock based. The less stable ones are LOS based. You could categorize as less customizable more customizable.

We have no additional processes running, lol. Most users don't have the knowledge how things work...but then people shouldn't judge the work of people that spent thousands of ours of their freetime into.
A general rule is though: Asking for a good rom is always wrong since people have different preferences.
You should always try out the roms yourself and make your own picture of it.

Obviously I'm not a godly dev like you but that's just what I think, it may not apply to all of you but I was just simply answering op.

The best way to find out, just to repeat whats been said, is to flash different ROMs and find your own preference. There is nothing objective in ROM choice, it is always entirely opinion based and as such a wonderful starter for flame wars. I love those questions. Could jump right in
