I want everyones opinion on there "favourite rom" for the DHD, in one thread! Make it easy to choose between and to get an idea on why each rom best suits there needs in one place! I seem to be able to find this but over 30 different threads! why not make it easy I say!! Hopefully the man in the black cape can see the dilemma

I HAVE TRIED LEEDROID, I DIDN'T MIND THE ROM AT ALL WAS SMOOTH, I ENDED UP WITH ANDROID.PROCESS PORBLEMS IN THE END WITH CONTACTS, HTC SYNC AND THE DAILER
I am using Runny Xtreme Surprise - v3.0.0, had it for a while, and it is smooth, and battery is good too
But I am looking at changing, created a few to many bugs messing with settings from rom market apps, Have to reinstall rom, decided on a change! Something just as smooth but with more options with the settings

Before Virtuous Team released their 3.0 kernel, there was no much choice for me but to go for gingerbread.
Image quality is an important factor for me when flashing a ROM and AOSP/AOKP versions never succeed
to satisfy me. Perhaps it's the camera-chip but when using, for example, LC's IceColdSandwich my images
have a lot of noise, blurriness and shakiness (same for other ICS ROMs). Touch-to-focus is something I
cannot live without as well and best support for that is found from Sense 3.5 Camera application.
Now that I have an option of going for full Sense 4.0 with a working camera, that's what is most likely
to become my new "number one". If you like your UI to be 'fluid' and fast-responding, you might not want
to install the Virtuous Infinity just yet but wait it to proceed to beta-stage. ICS is just awesome when you get
the full Sense experience with it! Among Sense 3.0-3.5 ROMs mike's ARHD with RC3D-tweaks is my
absolute favorite. It is the smoothest Sense ROM around and has awesome performance.
What comes to nonsense (he he) ROMs: I've tried quite a few of them, but the features (such as camera)
arejust not as rich as with Sense. Surely you get a better performance but for what? If you don't run on MIUI,
you phone will very likely end up looking pretty ugly with all the old version of apps and launchers from
wherever. MIUI looks nice but I don't like the apple concept, which means no appdrawer and eyecandy over
usability. If you don't mind great looking themes and like the idea of downloading an appdrawer from the
store, MIUI might be the thing.
To make it short:
Virtuous Infinity Alpha1 if you want the full Sense 4.0 with a working camera but don't mind little lagginess.
Android Revolution HD if you're not so much into ICS and like to have a good performance and response.
MIUI if you like your device to look good, not to drain too much battery, and to feel like an apple product.
IceColdSandwich if you want a fast, reliable and finished ICS ROM with stock look and a plain camera.
Hope this is any help to you. Happy flashing!

I tried Revolution HD on my DHD since lunch time today, and I have to agree that its simple and is powerful, battery good too! I'm intrigued, not sold! Does anyone else have the same thought, that the settings in notifications would be much better with a lot more settings and with the shortcut when you press and hold down a setting in notifications, it takes you through to contols of that function in the main settings!
Something so simple yet saves so much time! I find that odd, I am hoping 7.0.4 isn't the most recent version, haha, besides that, so far impressed by Revolution HD, seems great

Ok OP the reason no one can give a straight answer is because there really isnt one. Each device will work differently even when running the same rom. This is due to personal apps and set ups. Not to mention the different hardware in each device. Not all devices are made equally. The best advice you will get is to find a few that you think look good (lmao) and try each one out for a few days. Then before you try a new one make a nandroid backup so you can easily go back. Then make up your own mind on what is the best rom for you.
Just remember to to read the thread a bit for any issues you may come across.

Wrong which
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I personally don't see why people have made a ROM to look similar to an iPhone, so it's CM7 for me with it's gingerbreaddy goodness
CM series is more stable IMO
I would prefer MIUI. Looks simply, fast, good design, stable(but not more as CM), but in some cases it isnt translated to eng
..just my opinion
CM is better, for me, because of the battery and there are many bugs every week on Miui.
Miui is good (it's change of sense and aosp ROMs) but not stable enough yet. That's my opinion.
I moved from sense roms to CM7 and find it great. Haven't tried MIUI yet though do hear good things about it... may have to try it soon.
def cm7. miui looks too much like an iphone clone. i had a iphone 33g for 2 years and a iphone 4 for afew months. bored setup, apple def needs to stepup its game. cant believe they released ipad 2 with the same os as ipad1. boooo
Without CM there is no MIUI, If you like iPhone kind of UI and additional functionalities built-in then MIUI is best option. But as other's said, its not stable yet.
Personal opinion:
I hate MIUI. It is too iPhone-ish!
Flashed it once and reflashed it with something else after about 1 hr. I just hate it!
Go for CM!
Neutral opinion:
Just try them both and see which one you like man!
I like the miui look and feel BUT... I prefer the ability to use scrollable widgets e.g friend stream or friends in launcher pro. You dont tend to miss something till its gone so this was the deal breaker for me.
If the vertical scroll is ever available, i will use miui again
regards
more opinions please
Although I have flashed MIUI several times, I'll choose CM any other day due to its stability and good UI
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
There is no massive difference in the stability of either ROM as both are CM7 (and a CM7 kernel) underneath. Also in the way you can change the launcher in any other ROM, you are not stuck with the 'IPhone-ish' look and feel either. I personally do not use the MIUI launcher on MIUI (I use SPD Shell 3D - mad lookin').
IMO, I feel that the look and feel of the menus in MIUI are nicer as I like the clean look. It also integrates well with the stock MIUI apps like the dialer, messaging app and camera etc (vs. the AOSP stock apps in CM7).
I love the unified feel of MIUI and find CM a little disjointed, but as others have already said, try both and see.
Cm7 is clean and fast. Miui is nicer looking but takes up doughty more battery.

Is there even a point rooting my phone when its already Gingerbread? can someone tell me the general features I can get, and what are the best roms out there if i do root? thanks
The point of rooting is to open up a whole new world of customization. Once you root your phone, you can do a lot LOT more with your phone than you can now.
Just look at the choices of roms you'll have.
Believe me, rooting your DHD will be the best thing you'll do to your phone.
And as far as custom roms are concerned, there is no such thing as 'the best rom'.. it all depends on personal choice.
If you like the idea of trying different roms then you'll need to root.
You can get an idea from the screenshots in the ROM threads of how different your phone experience can be with custom roms.
(I started out rooting just for an easier way to take screenshots.)
Here is a page of screenshots from the CyanogenMod 7 rom I had on my phone a while back (plus some other wallpapers). As you can see, it is quite different. It's worth trying different roms if you like to tinker and improve the experience, be it visual, performance or whatever.
It can become an addiction or distraction though, so be warned. Good Luck.
It most certainly can become an addiction and distraction. I've got exams to worry about and my mind keeps going back onto this lol

Popular roms are Android Revolution HD, CyanogenMod, Leedroid, Rcmix, MIUI, Coredroid etc...

With a rooted phone, you can get total control of your phone,
With stock ROMs they have limited some functions, but once you rooted you can get rid of those limitation. For simple example, you cant take screenshots of your phone without rooting.
And secondly you can install custom ROMs on your phone and even overclock your processor.
Hope this helped,
Thanks!
As pointed out, you can overclock your phone. The DHD can run up to 1.9Ghz !
I normaly have mine running anything up to 1.6
Plus overcocking means that the phone can be underclocked for when the screen is off, saving battery.
As for ROM's. I have traditionally always run CyanogenMod as it's a nice, slick, fast experience.
If you try CM, then don't forget how much you can customise your screens using different 'Launcher' apps. I use ADW Ex but Launcher Pro is another popular one and there's plenty more. Most have downloadable themes(skins) too.
Oh, and if you really want some fun, try one of the new full Sense 3.0 rom's to see how fansy sense can get. I'm running Virtious Unity at the moment and it's the first Sense ROM I've run since I first rooted the phone ! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115312

I just bought the SGS2, and my girlfriend is getting my old HTC Desire.
She tried it for a week, with Oxygen ROM and while generally happy with it, she was underwhelmed and annoyed with a few of the more obvious warts of stock android 2.3. The crappy dialer and the crappy keyboard, to name a few.
I then installed a lot of GO apps on it, GO Launcher EX, GO Dialer, GO Widget etc.
While these are in some respects better, they have other issues.
I am now considering if a ROM with Sense would be a good compromise for her. I will not give her the latest stock 2.2 ROM from HTC, I want her to have 2.3. So it would have to be a 2.3 ROM with Sense on it. And I don't even know which version of Sense. I have only really worked with the one in the stock 2.2 ROM from HTC. I think it is Sense 1.9?
So, can you guys recommend a 2.3 ROM with Sense or a 2.3 ROM and some good core apps (dialer, keyboard, sms/texting etc.) that is girlfriend-friendly?
Thanks in advance
I'd recommend one with the Sense 3.0.

I would recommend a ROM with Sense 2.1/3.0 (Hybrid) because the Sense 3.5/3.0 ROMs are a bit too much sometimes for the Desire as I read and heard (in case of lags and so).
But Runnymede is recommended very often.
So I would go with Revolution or InsertCoin which I self am using since a few months and i'm quite happy with it.

And I really dont get the point why you always have to bash the other Roms except Supernova's. Supernovas Rom sure is great but there also other good ROMs (even with Sense 3.0/3.5). They are maybe that not stable and so on but the Users also have different preferences. For some eye-candy is the most important feature, for other it is stability and speed.

Not that I don't bash just supernova, I don't bash either of the Sense 1.9 roms, aosp roms, or even roms which are broken and are advertised as such.
And I have no beef with roms or their developers, but with idiots that turn every rom recommendation thread into this. OK, you're free to do whatever you want, but you can't come and write "Sense 3.5/ICS , this, this, this and this doesn't work, but it's perfect".
As far as I'm concerned, the scale goes like this: unusable - bad - average - good - perfect. I hope meaning of perfect is self explanatory?
If the op states that he is giving away his phone, Sense 3.5 roms don't have nothing to look for here. Giving away phone with some of it's features severely limited is insanity.
It is you Sense 3.5 users who mixed up priorities here, not I. If the thread was titled "most eyecandy" rom I'd be silent.

And this I can do with pure conscience because the ROM I'm using right now (InsertCoin) is way faster than the Stock-ROM that was originally on the Desire and i havent experienced anything thats not working yet (no reboots, no failures, ... everything is working fine).
Yeah, maybe the Sense-ROMs you are not bashing are a bit faster than the ISC and Revolution Hybrids but there you have an uglier ui, so you have to balance.
Maybe you should testing a Hybrid for yourself because now you are just assuming things.

I want her to have 2.3, and there is no good official 2.3 ROM from HTC. So I guess I might as well try a girlfriend-friendly 2.3 ROM, preferably one that "just works" and that I don't have to help her with a million times. If you can recommend such a ROM, it would be great.
I agree with you that eye candy is not the most important thing here. Usability and stability is. Unfortunately, stock android have usability issues with simple things such as the dialer and the keyboard. And Android 2.3 is a must.
I will never buy her an iPhone, so that's not an option.

It was enough for one which spends as much time as me reading these threads to read a couple of the first ones and catch the drift of where is it going. After that I just scroll real fast through the thread. No Stock rom recommendations? Check. Commence bashing.

Hey Guys whats better my cousin keeps on bugging me and he dosen't like my oppinion so I'll aks you guys instead so that he'll finally stop so
What do you guys think
AOKP or HTC Sense?
Better in what way?
To me its all a matter of preference. I've never been able to stand a Sense ROM more than a week.

Overall Performance and the Camera Quality
Again, its a matter of preference. Some people like Cameras apps from other ROMs, or off the market. Performance is a mixed bag too. I never had much luck with Sense 3.0 or 3.5 ROMs with performance, but other people say it works flawless.
Just give him the advice that probably 90% of the people here would: try them out and find out what works for you.
But if your looking for an opinion... the best cameras I've used have been in sense roms, but other than for the camera I can't stand sense, never cared much for eye candy.
I prefer speed and stability so I would say the best is aosp, aokp, cm, even miui. But never sense... again just adding my 0.02$

Thankyou alot guys now I could review for my tests on Monday
If you're talking bout something at the level of ICS 4.0.4, then I would say 'performance' wise AOKP is going to be better in general, not as much 'eye-candy' and such you'd get from Sense. (As far as I know, no Sense ICS rom has a working camera yet).
But if you're talking Gingerbread and earlier, it's really going to depend on the custom Rom. For example AOKP is most likely going to out perform a stock sense install, but a custom Sense Rom could be on par.
Guess it depends on where your priorities are, do you need more eye candy, or are you aiming more for raw performance/functionality?

There are some ICS Roms that have camera and camcoreder working on the DZ, like Ice Cream Jibwich and AOKP bulids for vision (those were the only ROMS I got to try, so those are the only ones I know. )

But are either of them SENSE 4.0? I was specifically referring to Sense Roms. I know some work, as I'm using an ICS rom where it works.

ahh... well none yet but once the DHD gets that ICS update Dev's we'll get that Sense 4.0 camera up and running!
and hey why is that Kernel 3.0 from the DHD so important? the people from the Desire S forums have it already.
If ur cousin want a best camera yet performance out of it,get the xperia sense by taz instead..it doest use sense as launcher, but use xperia launcher which was really light..like running 17mb for me.. it's a fast yet with function of sense

Ice Cold Sandwich by LC.
Dude roms are different for everyone. What may be great to me may be crap to you. Many love Jellybean I utterly hate it.
You need to take few out for a test drive and see what you like. The only advice I can give you is
Gingerbread roms are solid and stable
ICS and Jellybean still have kinks being worked on tho some are considered solid now.
Read the last few pages of a rom to get an idea as to where they stand.
Hmm hearing the faint sounds of Zels keys, gotta go.

If you are jealous every time a new version of Android comes out and you want to upgrade to it, you'll probably want a shiny new jelly bean rom like JellyTime. It gets updated very very regularly which I find exciting, there's something fun about updating at least once a week...
But if you absolutely need your phone to run all the time or just don't like the idea of having to update all the time, Reinaldo's suggestion above is very stable and you won't have to update very often (or ever?)

There is no best, only better
IMHO: For my DHD nothing can beat OFFICIAL codefireX Jellybean 1012. "synergye" is a genious! I really cant believe the speed and smoothness of this ROM. BTW, I've tried every other ROM.
thats interesting gonna try the codefireX JB
Except the crappy sound, jellytime is a good rom. I'll probably stick with it for a while.

Tried many Sense and Non-Sense roms and I find Ice Cold Sandwich works the best for me.

sabsa prime v7.0
I tested Virtuos Infinity and I like it but now I'm with Sabsa Prime but I don't like the sound level of notifications and the camera...
Seriously? This has to be the 99999th thread like this. Experiment with different ROMs and see which one you like best.
But for me:
Sense: Either Android Revolution HD or Virtuous Infinity.
Non Sense: LC IceCold or JellyTime.
Gonna try CodefireX and PACeman at some point (flashing PACeman tomorrow at school )
DESTROY THEM WITH LAZ0RZ
I have used NIK "Project X" and Blackout and have had good experiences. Currently using "Project X" and it is great ROM. Haven't had any issues till now.
Trickdroid v3 works well for me as a daily driver.... very fast response, sense4a
I find myself flipping between Blackout ICS and Jellytime. Currently sticking Jellytime because as the bugs get hammered out it gets better and better.
For me trickdroid it is the best rom at the moment. I'm using it already 3 months.
