[Q] which rom is best? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi everbody
Please recommend mi any rom for DHD.
thanks

Ice Cold Sandwich by LC.
Dude roms are different for everyone. What may be great to me may be crap to you. Many love Jellybean I utterly hate it.
You need to take few out for a test drive and see what you like. The only advice I can give you is
Gingerbread roms are solid and stable
ICS and Jellybean still have kinks being worked on tho some are considered solid now.
Read the last few pages of a rom to get an idea as to where they stand.
Hmm hearing the faint sounds of Zels keys, gotta go.

If you are jealous every time a new version of Android comes out and you want to upgrade to it, you'll probably want a shiny new jelly bean rom like JellyTime. It gets updated very very regularly which I find exciting, there's something fun about updating at least once a week...
But if you absolutely need your phone to run all the time or just don't like the idea of having to update all the time, Reinaldo's suggestion above is very stable and you won't have to update very often (or ever?)

ICS: "blackout", "sabsa prime", "trick droid"
JB: "jelly time"

To plain and lame for me. Once I got used to LCs customizable rom I was ruined. lol

I would say Virtuous Infinity v1.35.0
ics + full sense
And use beastmod kernel for better battery life
Dont forgt to hit thanks button.

I use IceColdSandwich...because it's the most stable...but that's just me... you should try as many as you can... flash away!!

There is no best, only better

IMHO: For my DHD nothing can beat OFFICIAL codefireX Jellybean 1012. "synergye" is a genious! I really cant believe the speed and smoothness of this ROM. BTW, I've tried every other ROM.

thats interesting gonna try the codefireX JB

Except the crappy sound, jellytime is a good rom. I'll probably stick with it for a while.

Tried many Sense and Non-Sense roms and I find Ice Cold Sandwich works the best for me.

sabsa prime v7.0

I tested Virtuos Infinity and I like it but now I'm with Sabsa Prime but I don't like the sound level of notifications and the camera...

Seriously? This has to be the 99999th thread like this. Experiment with different ROMs and see which one you like best.
But for me:
Sense: Either Android Revolution HD or Virtuous Infinity.
Non Sense: LC IceCold or JellyTime.
Gonna try CodefireX and PACeman at some point (flashing PACeman tomorrow at school )
DESTROY THEM WITH LAZ0RZ

I have used NIK "Project X" and Blackout and have had good experiences. Currently using "Project X" and it is great ROM. Haven't had any issues till now.

Trickdroid v3 works well for me as a daily driver.... very fast response, sense4a

I find myself flipping between Blackout ICS and Jellytime. Currently sticking Jellytime because as the bugs get hammered out it gets better and better.

For me trickdroid it is the best rom at the moment. I'm using it already 3 months.

[Q] What ROM to use?

This is for a friend who has a Desire HD.
He had cyanogenmod for a while but an earlier buggier version.
He's now sick of it, and ready to move to an iphone.
I'm looking for a perfectly stable ROM with ICS if possible.
Recommendations?

u can definitely recommend miui(gb) or the primo-s by proxuser(ics)
Ice Cold Sandwich is a great rom. Been using it for a few months and all the instability and other issues have been pretty much ironed out by now. I believe it's one of the more popular ICS roms for the desire
Rom stability has alot to do with the device and the user. So it will be alot of trial and error. ICS will have bugs until we get the source and an update from HTC. A search would have told you this.

I totally agree that Froyo was the worst, it's so slow and ugly :silly: Gingerbread was a huge improvement and Ice Cream Sandwich is an even bigger improvement, but at the moment not all the power of it can be harnessed by our DEFY, so I'd say that Gingerbread is the best. But Motorola is to blame for that, cause with those proper custom kernels, ICS would be flying So, if no way for custom kernels to run arises, I'm guessing that troubles with missing libraries will be even bigger with Jelly Bean, so we might just not even see a CM based on JB for DEFY
Found the Jellybean wallpapers and the new bootanimation over at Android authority!
>>>>>Android Jelly Bean Goodies<<<<<
Has anyone tried the new Jelly Bean VoiceSearch/GoogleQuickSearchBox on our ICS builds yet? I've been searching all over, no-one has yet to post it. You guys had any luck?
I've just tried Jelly Bean on Galaxy Nexus, it's way more faster than ICS because it has this Project Butter (newer hwa) which makes UI constant on 60FPS, so no more UI lags!
Jelly Bean is based on ICS so there won't be so much trouble about porting it because we already have ICS
I think the main question would be whether Project Butter will run with our Froyo/GB Kernel we have to stick with?!

defy developers are really making effort.
I didn't see that on any other device forums
The efforts have been fruitful since the long study made by our developers . They made it easy . since once you get to know how things work . and how the ideas are and what kernel functions and codes u shd be actually knowing . It becomes lots easy for implementation

it will awesome for all of us , if it happened some how , our developers are best of all others ,
we were just given eclair , we had froyo(modded roms) , GB roms ( best and great performance ) , and we had ICS all good , except some issues due to locked bootloaders, otherwise we at this time could had best ICS rom Available ....... developers are trying their best working day & night for us ,
I am sure that we all will have jelly bean ,( not fully functional though ), but our great developers will make it happen for us all .......
once this Bootloader thing gets solved some how , can't say how ,
we gonna have rocking roms with overall best performance than all the device present in this xda forum ...... and i can bet on this ......
atlast thanks to all the developers of DEFY & DEFY PLUS .......

AOKP or HTC Sense?
Better in what way?
To me its all a matter of preference. I've never been able to stand a Sense ROM more than a week.

Overall Performance and the Camera Quality
Again, its a matter of preference. Some people like Cameras apps from other ROMs, or off the market. Performance is a mixed bag too. I never had much luck with Sense 3.0 or 3.5 ROMs with performance, but other people say it works flawless.
Just give him the advice that probably 90% of the people here would: try them out and find out what works for you.
But if your looking for an opinion... the best cameras I've used have been in sense roms, but other than for the camera I can't stand sense, never cared much for eye candy.
I prefer speed and stability so I would say the best is aosp, aokp, cm, even miui. But never sense... again just adding my 0.02$

Thankyou alot guys now I could review for my tests on Monday
If you're talking bout something at the level of ICS 4.0.4, then I would say 'performance' wise AOKP is going to be better in general, not as much 'eye-candy' and such you'd get from Sense. (As far as I know, no Sense ICS rom has a working camera yet).
But if you're talking Gingerbread and earlier, it's really going to depend on the custom Rom. For example AOKP is most likely going to out perform a stock sense install, but a custom Sense Rom could be on par.
Guess it depends on where your priorities are, do you need more eye candy, or are you aiming more for raw performance/functionality?

ahh... well none yet but once the DHD gets that ICS update Dev's we'll get that Sense 4.0 camera up and running!
and hey why is that Kernel 3.0 from the DHD so important? the people from the Desire S forums have it already.
If ur cousin want a best camera yet performance out of it,get the xperia sense by taz instead..it doest use sense as launcher, but use xperia launcher which was really light..like running 17mb for me.. it's a fast yet with function of sense

I am using Runny Xtreme Surprise - v3.0.0, had it for a while, and it is smooth, and battery is good too
But I am looking at changing, created a few to many bugs messing with settings from rom market apps, Have to reinstall rom, decided on a change! Something just as smooth but with more options with the settings

Before Virtuous Team released their 3.0 kernel, there was no much choice for me but to go for gingerbread.
Image quality is an important factor for me when flashing a ROM and AOSP/AOKP versions never succeed
to satisfy me. Perhaps it's the camera-chip but when using, for example, LC's IceColdSandwich my images
have a lot of noise, blurriness and shakiness (same for other ICS ROMs). Touch-to-focus is something I
cannot live without as well and best support for that is found from Sense 3.5 Camera application.
Now that I have an option of going for full Sense 4.0 with a working camera, that's what is most likely
to become my new "number one". If you like your UI to be 'fluid' and fast-responding, you might not want
to install the Virtuous Infinity just yet but wait it to proceed to beta-stage. ICS is just awesome when you get
the full Sense experience with it! Among Sense 3.0-3.5 ROMs mike's ARHD with RC3D-tweaks is my
absolute favorite. It is the smoothest Sense ROM around and has awesome performance.
What comes to nonsense (he he) ROMs: I've tried quite a few of them, but the features (such as camera)
arejust not as rich as with Sense. Surely you get a better performance but for what? If you don't run on MIUI,
you phone will very likely end up looking pretty ugly with all the old version of apps and launchers from
wherever. MIUI looks nice but I don't like the apple concept, which means no appdrawer and eyecandy over
usability. If you don't mind great looking themes and like the idea of downloading an appdrawer from the
store, MIUI might be the thing.
To make it short:
Virtuous Infinity Alpha1 if you want the full Sense 4.0 with a working camera but don't mind little lagginess.
Android Revolution HD if you're not so much into ICS and like to have a good performance and response.
MIUI if you like your device to look good, not to drain too much battery, and to feel like an apple product.
IceColdSandwich if you want a fast, reliable and finished ICS ROM with stock look and a plain camera.
Hope this is any help to you. Happy flashing!

I tried Revolution HD on my DHD since lunch time today, and I have to agree that its simple and is powerful, battery good too! I'm intrigued, not sold! Does anyone else have the same thought, that the settings in notifications would be much better with a lot more settings and with the shortcut when you press and hold down a setting in notifications, it takes you through to contols of that function in the main settings!
Something so simple yet saves so much time! I find that odd, I am hoping 7.0.4 isn't the most recent version, haha, besides that, so far impressed by Revolution HD, seems great

Well Seems I may have missed one during my cleaning.
Ok OP the reason no one can give a straight answer is because there really isnt one. Each device will work differently even when running the same rom. This is due to personal apps and set ups. Not to mention the different hardware in each device. Not all devices are made equally. The best advice you will get is to find a few that you think look good (lmao) and try each one out for a few days. Then before you try a new one make a nandroid backup so you can easily go back. Then make up your own mind on what is the best rom for you.
Just remember to to read the thread a bit for any issues you may come across.

GB, ICS or JB ROM?

I am probably going to root my friends DHD soon and wondering if I should stick with CM7.2 as I presume its pretty rock solid and reasonably fast or go with an ICS or JB rom that obviously has newer features but could be less stable. I know everyone's perfect roms aren't the same but are there any ICS/JB roms out there for the DHD that are stable, quick, having (almost) everything worling and preferably stock AOSP rather than sense?
I'm from the desire so don't know much about the DHD scene, any recommendations would be appreciated
Cheers
I should try Sabsa Prime V9 (can't judge V10 yet) because it's so smooth as you possibly won't see ever again in a Sense ROM.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda PREMIUM running Sabsa Prime V9.
aospX. It's in the Inspire 4G forums, but I4G ROMs are compatible with DHDs. Almost pure AOSP.
EDIT: Another advantage is that aospX is still actively supported by the developer existz; the other AOSP-like ROM (though AOKP) is IceColdSandwich in the DHD forums, but the developer LordclockaN has officially moved on (thought he still stops by every now and then). aospX updates less often, but each one is rock solid.
I would personally recommend AOKP over AOSPx- it's been updated a little more recently, and a lot more tweaks. Stable too. However, the camera is no where up to par with the HTC Sense ones- with a sense ROM I can take digital camera quality images, whereas with the stock AOSP camera I can at best take semi okay images. Maybe not an issue, but for me it was.
ViperDHD is the best 4.x and HTC Sense ROM for our phone in terms of tweaks, but I think it's slow as a hog, although others may have different experiences.
I wouldn't go with JB if your friend needs someone else to root their phone . While it's mostly stable, battery life isn't always up to par. The only ROM I've gotten daily user battery life from is MIUI by bliind (haven't tried the knew one though)
However, my final recommendation would be Blackout ICS. It's extremely stable, is fairly fast, and has a good amount of tweaks. Sense 3.6 android 4.0.4. If you want to go with GB, go with blackice and change the dpi back to stock (240).
Better yet, check out my sig
Ok thank you for the recommendations guys ill have a look.
Cheers!
