Any recommendations for a ROM ? there are so many out there dunno where to start I need good batterylife and CM7 based ROMs are a big NO NO...
Thanks in advanced
arhd 6.1.5
hi m8, using arhd 6.1.5 with no probs, battery life is a big ask as depends on what you are running during the day ie bluetooth, gps, wifi etc, as battery life is different for each user.

Thanks guys I will have a look at screen shots of both ROM's although battery life is a big issue for me so is stability and customization.
Try Galnet MIUI stable. They have an awesome performance and a great battery life (currently running at 1-4 mA in idle.)
If you don't like the iphone-ish UI, try another launcher like Launcher Pro.
I do what i want, because I can.
MIUI is based on CM7, iv'e played with a friends DHD who has CM7 installed its just too bland and stock... Sense is way superior IMO and the Sense camera is 100x better than the CM7 offering + iv'e seen screens of MIUI (looks like iOS lol) Definatly dont want that. BUT Thanks anyway dude.
Virtuous affinity is a fantastic Rom mate I was using the unity series but the guys that worked on this have excelled themselves ! So smooth lots of features its great! I love my phone all over again

I know that this isn't a ROM recommendation but iff you want good battery life checkout the accessories section of the forum and look at the evo 3d/sensation battery MOD
ATM I try the new SmartDroid Rom and I'm absolute happy with it. Battery life is great and it's very smooth.

Another useless post.....i remember answering Q's like this many times before as well. Why pppl do not use search?? (i hope a mod steps in here anyway )
There is no such thing called a perfect ROM. What suits my necessities best does not mean that it lives up to your expectation. The battery n stuffs like this are related to how one uses his/her phone, not on the ROM itself (well a little, maybe).
That being said, try one by one yrself n find out one that suits you based.
Too many threads like this. Its down to personal preference and these threads can start into flaming wars/ trolling. Thread closed.

I got me a Desire from Telus a few days ago and i'm looking into rooting and installing ROMs, but i'm not really sure where to start (there seem to be a LOT of choices). I'm not a fan of Sense at all so anything that doesn't include HTC's fluff will probably get my attention.
Thanks!
im currently running opendesire...
pretty much stock 2.2 with a few tweaks, really quick, and no crap.
either that or defrost which is more tweaked and modded.
these are the only 2 active aosp roms that i have seen lately..
the crappy sense ones have kind of taken over

I'd strongly recommend OpenDesire . It's basically vanilla froyo, with a few minor modifications/optimisations. It's compiled from source (it isn't a mod of a nexus one or HTC rom), and so is fast and clean. It's also being updated regularly in response to bug reports.
How's OpenDesire with battery life? Would I see an improvement or would it be pretty much the same thing?
I'm having the same "problem" really. I now run some near to HTC's stock Froyo rom. I'm sure I found it on XDA somewhere but it wasn't from a well-known dev.
I only installed a rom with Sense because of the black bar, since I purchased LauncherPro. But now that the black bar is ripped perfectly I don't see a reason not to run OpenDesire.
All I want is speed and good battery life.
I think that if i didnt care for the sense UI id first try Cyanogens rom...
I'm running CyanogenMod's nightly build on Desire and I really love it.

With OpenDesire 3.1.0 and lates radio X.X.20 I got 2-3 days of battery life depending on the use of the phone. Normally I have 3G enabled almost 80-90% of the time.
Which is better : OpenDesire or DeFrost ???
Yes too bad so few NON SENSE ROM....

Hmmmm, good one, not sure to be honest, the 1st ROM I tried was DeFroST, and loved it, a few days ago I tried Opendesire 3.10, and now I bounce between the 2, as I can't decide.
No help I know, but had to give my thoughts.

Was using OD from version 2.xxx up to 3.1.0 but switched to Defrost 2.6a for two reasons:
1. Auto brightness is working (like in Sense ROMs) i.e. not too dimmed and that's out of the box.
2. My photos/videos taken with the camera app are recognised by my PCs and so can be transferred. In OD unfortunately cannot be seen.
Both ROMs are great vanilla stock like froyo an in my opinion the best ones. Try them both and stick to the one you like more.

Yep I have the same experience with OD3.1.0 and radio .20, I did download a weather widget from the market and it sucked the life from the battery, so got rid of the widget, all good now. Had no probs with the OJ dying yet, so cant comment on the power usage once the OJ dies.
Running OD 3.1 too
Love it and really see no use for the Sense UI on Android due to the availability of widgets.
Just question: why isn't MODACO present on XDA?
there's also one more ROM...
[FROYO-OTA] Psychosis 3.0 No Sense Deodexed A2SD+ AdBlock VERY FAST 720p
Are there any ROMs that offer undervolting or a specific focus on battery life?

Undervolting made my desire go wobbly, but not everyones. Defrost was and is doing lots of uv, uvoc, and oc ing.
Hope it helps

Not that i know of.
Having tried leedroid, defrost, shadowfrost, opendesire, nextsense and neophyte id have to say opendesire has very good battery life compared to the others. Defrost is the most snappy, but it drains the battery like a mofo.

I found the opposite, DeFroST seems to last longer than OD on my phone.
I was wondering which rom out of the many available - is best in terms of battery life?? I didn't really want to start a whole new thread .. but i am looking for those here who have flashed most of the custom desire roms on XDA, I need a rom that manages battery better then most.

I'm pretty sure that you are going to have lots of answers. Unfortunately, each one, talking about one rom or the other will tell you that its rom is better that others.
I'm running a ROM developped by a single developper (Itanium 1.8 today) and the battery life is pretty good. Undervolt mod is included, several optimizations have been made for battery usage, but again, I'm pretty sure Cyanogen and OpenDesire (these are examples, not the only ROMs working fine I guess) are good at saving baterry life...
So I would say it's hard to tell, and the best advice would be for you to test several of these and find the one which best suits your needs... You might end with a ROM which might give you less battery life, but which would looks better for you and for your usage (Sense based, without Sense...).
Hope this makes sense.

thanks for the info bro I hope others will also post a comment. Although, as you said - opinions will dither, it will still be good to get an overall opinion from many XDA desire users.
Helllo everyone
Just posting here to see what everyone thinks. I'm currently a CyanogenMod 7 user, and am looking to try a new ROM or two
I want good battery life, I get 2 steady days with decent usage at the minute from CM7 on my stock radio and also am a customisation freak. I love making my Desire HD look like no one else's does
Can anyone suggest a good ROM for me and why?
Also what is everyone's favourite and why?
Chhhheers
Try MIUI, its much nicer to look at than standard CM7.

If it is not important for you to lose HTC sense, MIUI is nice in spite of the fact that it looks like too much the IOS IPHONE
CM 7.0.0 HAS a bad battery drain but its fixed in the cyanogenmod 7.0.2... now the battery works for a long time.. 24 30 hrs moderate use..
and finally if you are interested for a better battery drain try SETCPU.apk (free for XDA MEMBERS) AND configure your proccessor for a conservative work or setdown de cpu (900 mhz for example)
under my experience with the custom roms leedroid (lastest froyo 2.2.1 with leedroid kernel 2.2.9 at 960 mhz max) was provided the best battery drain AND YOU CAN TAKE the kalaga´s theme and enjoy of a great rom.
if you want a really a beautiful and fast rom you can try coredroid v3.3 with a leedroid kernel or buzz kernel (i always recommend froyo at the moment, no ported roms, but there´sa lot of people that likes gb roms!)
really you are the only one that can select the rom that better adjust to yourself! Every person looks for something different in the roms
I've tried 4 roms with no luck..the one i'm on has a drain problem (1% goes down every 5-10 minutes even when the phone is on sleep) so please suggest me a really good one because i'm fed up of downloading 300mb big roms lol, i'm used to CM7 with 80mb or so but CM7 here on desire HD isn't that good. Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot

and which kernel would be better to flash with it?
best rom
After trying out different roms ,radio and kernel combinations for months i would say MIUI FRESHLY SQUEEZED EDITION, lordmod 7.5 cfs kernel with his uv script and the latest radio ie ....26.13.04.19m would be the least taxing combination on the battery and what to say its fast and smooth....try this combination you wont be disappointed.good luck.
Agree. MIUI is very light (80-90MB), is super smooth and has a lot of eye candy. If you don't like the iPhone-ish launcher, you can install whatever launcher you want. You can't go wrong.
I ended up with following combo: rcmix3D runny v2.2 rom, rcmix v7 kernel and killersloth's rcmix script
Just buy a better battery and use any rom you like most.

place where i live, i can't just go out and buy battery
People here tend to buy a new phone rather than just getting a new battery xD
There is no best rom for battery. IT all depends on how you use it. I could tell you that I get 3 days with xyz rom and abc kernel but when you try it, it drains really fast for you due to how different we run our phones. A search would have showed you this as it has been asked alot sense android was released and no matter what phone, rom, kernel....ect, it will all come down to how you use it. This is one of the prices we pay for running custom roms. Flashing till we find one that works for us and the way we use it.

I've tried a number of roms but couldn't try them all!
My dhd is basically a toy for the kids now but was wondering if there's a rom out there that offers better battery life than all other. Not bothered if it's old or new or even obsolete and unsupported now. The kids just use it to play simple games so I'm wanting the best possible battery life out of it. Anybody got any experiences to share?
well i tried a number of roms ad i guess sabsa prime was the best in battery life
