Helllo everyone
Just posting here to see what everyone thinks. I'm currently a CyanogenMod 7 user, and am looking to try a new ROM or two
I want good battery life, I get 2 steady days with decent usage at the minute from CM7 on my stock radio and also am a customisation freak. I love making my Desire HD look like no one else's does
Can anyone suggest a good ROM for me and why?
Also what is everyone's favourite and why?

Try MIUI, its much nicer to look at than standard CM7.

If it is not important for you to lose HTC sense, MIUI is nice in spite of the fact that it looks like too much the IOS IPHONE
CM 7.0.0 HAS a bad battery drain but its fixed in the cyanogenmod 7.0.2... now the battery works for a long time.. 24 30 hrs moderate use..
and finally if you are interested for a better battery drain try SETCPU.apk (free for XDA MEMBERS) AND configure your proccessor for a conservative work or setdown de cpu (900 mhz for example)
under my experience with the custom roms leedroid (lastest froyo 2.2.1 with leedroid kernel 2.2.9 at 960 mhz max) was provided the best battery drain AND YOU CAN TAKE the kalaga´s theme and enjoy of a great rom.
if you want a really a beautiful and fast rom you can try coredroid v3.3 with a leedroid kernel or buzz kernel (i always recommend froyo at the moment, no ported roms, but there´sa lot of people that likes gb roms!)
really you are the only one that can select the rom that better adjust to yourself! Every person looks for something different in the roms

I have two Desires, one running Sense and the other running CyanogenMod.
My "primary" device is my Sense phone, but due to an SD card problem last week I had to switch to using my CyanogenMod phone as my daily device as I didn't have time to sort out the other phone until the weekend just gone.
The long and short of it is that I am back to using my Sense phone because I think that the experience is better. Whilst CyanogenMod and similar ROMs may well be faster, IMHO this is only really apparent in benchmarks and not in general use.
That's not to say that CyanogenMod doesn't bring a lot of nice stuff to the table (much of which should be rolled back into AOSP IMO) - just that I personally find that Sense is just a more pleasant user experience, and because of this I can't see that it is "bloatware".
Regards,
Dave
Sense = owns all (IMO)
I've got the same opinion like Foxmeister...Cyanogen might be faster but you can't really notice the difference between Sense and non-Sense Roms in everyday-usage. Cyanogen (and other AOSP Roms) are only better in Benchmark Test like Quadrant...And I think Sense is a great User Experience and makes using the phone much easier...
It's down to personal taste, no one can tell you which one is better, you'll have to find out yourself through experiencing both types of ROMs
Thx guys~ i'll just stick to my leedroid 2.2e, love it...
Can any1 guide me into a thread or website explaining radio & kernel in android term? and how to install/flash it? is it by using rom manager? thx in advance...

how is your battery life fellas?
I used to loose 50% everyday with minimal usage
Tried Modaco not bad, but wanna try more, so i tried leedroid 2.2a, was very good, fast and stable, with launcher pro, then wanna try out non sense rom, because many said that it's faster, so i tried open desire, auto brightness seem to be a little too dark, get back to leedroid 2.2b, then don wanna give up on non sense rom, tried defrost again, turtle photoframe work slow when i change to other photo, some photos don even show up... get back to leedroid 2.2e... some how i found out that leedroid is faster than those non sense rom, y? i never use linux, sux at hacking, and love gaming (angry bird rocks!) and web surfing, i guess sense rom is better for me... wanna try cynogen but give up on non sense rom... leedroid is the best rom for normal user like me...
This is too general a question. there are many different builds of sense ROMS and many builds of ASOP ROMS.. they are all different. you can't really compare them as "sense vs non sense".
To put it simply you cannot compare them as a whole category.

Currently using a MoDaCo R9 ROM.
23h 21m since unplugged and 60% battery left, though the phone was in airplane mode from around 11pm to 7am.
I didn't use the phone heavily yesterday, but did make/take a few phone calls, send/read a good number of emails, surfed the web, and listened to a bit of Spotify, so I'd definitely say my usage was more than minimal.

Dave
P.S. <PEDANT ALERT> Argghh!! My pet peeve! Use of the word "loose" when what is really meant is "lose"! </PEDANT ALERT>
I'm on the HD port from robocik and it just rocks...FB/Twitter/weather sync every hour, bit of WiFi/Angry Birds every day, Gmail as and when I get an email, few calls, few txts. Off charge at 7:30am and put back on at around 11pm with about 40% left
Sense vs. Non-Sense is a preference. As mentioned rightly, many of the ROMs in both categories will work just as good for a specific user. But there are some distinct differences between them without a question. After months of testing with no real favoritism or devotion to some dev, I prefer some Sense based by a big margin on many fronts (Stock by nickiberli and teppic, LeeDroid, RCMix). And quite honestly, I haven't till now used any ROM with my full setup that was clearly and noticeably as fast and smooth as the RCMix v0.11 (except for the dirt slow restart/start).
RCMix v0.11 battery life is indeed good (I don't see it any worse than HTC 2.2) and the Battery Info section now reports the usages far more correctly. But it is still a beta work on many fronts. No cam or vid playback is too great a major issue for a smartphone. I mean, even apps like Nvu, Smart Compass, Cam Card, Document Scanner, Shop Savvy, Surveyor, Barcode Scanner, etc, won't work as they should due to this. It should be a cracking ROM once they can get these issues fixed.

Hi,
I'd appreciate some advice (having searched as best I can first, and without hijacking another thread) - I'm a Nexus One user (running CM6.1, and very happy with it), but my wife's Desire (currently unrooted stock latest OTA update) has a sucky habit of running the battery down to zero every so often when she's not using it and I've been thinking a custom ROM is the way to go. However, there's a lot of roms for the desire, and I can't work out which meets the requirements best:
1) Must appear to be a stock Sense rom to the user (she's just got used to the UI, and I don't want her to get flustered) - I'd like something that seems as much like the stock rom as possible please.
2) Best possible battery life (happy to try uv if it's unobtrusive)
Any replies very much welcome, ta.
Jim
I prefer not to say which ROM is better compared to other ROMs as I think it would be unfair on the developers who have put in so much hard work to bring us such a great variety of ROMs, but in terms of battery life, I would personally say that I had the best battery performance out of OpenDesire. The only problem though is that OpenDesire does not have Sense UI. With it, I was averaging about 2-3 days (depending on usage) use out of it before I need to put it on the charger. At that time, I was also running a different Radio (5.10.05.23).
If you really need Sense UI, then I would suggest LeeDroid's ROM as it provides pretty good battery life as well.
Have you considered the MIUI ROMs? they are pretty new and highly customisable, with an iOS like interface with widgets, also provide impressive battery life and are very stable.
I'm sure many would disagree with my findings but this is just based on my own experience of using these ROMs.
MasDroid,
Many thanks for the advice - I've gone with LeeDroid and it's worked like a charm. A well supported and stable ROM, which I'll recommend to anyone in the same position.
Thanks again!
J
I second MasDroid's opinion about LeeDroid ROM.
I am glad you're enjoying such a good ROM. Hope your wife is happy, i know how important that is
First of all hello to the people of XDA Desire HD thread.
I'm in unfamiliar territory.
I used to own a Milestone and thanks to its "awesome" bootloader there were very few roms to chose from. After dropping and breaking it I had to buy a Huawei u8500 (due largely to monitory issues) and there were even fewer roms for that.
Well now I have gotten hold of a hand-me-down Desire HD
I managed to downgrade and root it breaking a lot of sweat as I'm very unfamiliar with HTC rooting and modding. The gingerbread it came with had WiFi issues. Very poor range.
Anyway, I lost my jaw on the floor seeing the huge number of Desire HD roms on XDA and I don't know which one to use. I do not want hop from rom to rom. I just want to flash one and use it day in day out. I know you guys hear this all the time but I wanted to hear from you on a personal note which one I should use.
My priorities are:
1. Has to be very very light on battery consumption. Huge screen, a processor from Ferrari, and just 1230mah is worrying me. I need to go through each day (that's 24 hours) without having to think about charging it. The rom has to be very light on standby.
2. I don't like the HTC phone apk...after a few days of use I feel like calling someone with the Desire HD is the most difficult thing to do with this phone. All the other stuff can be done seamlessly, just not calling someone . May be I'm not used to it yet.
3. I like the new Sense UI. A rom that comes with it and other HTC complementaries would be nice.
4. Performance would be nice but it is 4th on the wishlist as my history tells you i have never had a top-end phone. I consider the speed I see in the stock rom as blistering
So what do you think I should flash?
Ive used several roms and it's all down to personal preference - BUT I can highly recommend (in this order)
1) Leedroid HD (highly tweaked fast rom, excellent, visually diff than a stock rom, less battery drain then android hd below)
2) Android Revolution HD (highly tweaked fast rom, excellent, visually doesnt appear much diff than a stock rom)
3) MIUI 1.8 ( this very light in size and battery drain and seems to be becoming more and more popular, with alot of dev/skins/mods appearing by the day - This is what im playing with at the minute)
please remember - battery drain is mostly down to the apps/wifi ect usage

Wow...I was expecting CM7 stable would be mentioned...is the CM7 not very battery friendly?
I used CM7 [Nightly] for months - changing it almost every day with each release. I've tried many of them here at XDA as have many people here.
Check out my sig for a few screenshots and ideas.
Like dayze0 I'm currently using MIUI. MIUI 1.8.26 v.2: Freshly Squeezed Edition™ 27/08/11
Some screenshots I took of it are here.
I am intrigued by MDJ's ultimate...partly because it has a regular phone apk i think. How did it fair in the consumption department?
I tried it and it was good but it's now discontinued.
One of m-deejay's latest roms is Virtuous Doubleshot v1.0.1.
You should try all or any of them and learn that way.
Any recommendations for a ROM ? there are so many out there dunno where to start I need good batterylife and CM7 based ROMs are a big NO NO...
Thanks in advanced
arhd 6.1.5
hi m8, using arhd 6.1.5 with no probs, battery life is a big ask as depends on what you are running during the day ie bluetooth, gps, wifi etc, as battery life is different for each user.

Thanks guys I will have a look at screen shots of both ROM's although battery life is a big issue for me so is stability and customization.
Try Galnet MIUI stable. They have an awesome performance and a great battery life (currently running at 1-4 mA in idle.)
If you don't like the iphone-ish UI, try another launcher like Launcher Pro.
I do what i want, because I can.
MIUI is based on CM7, iv'e played with a friends DHD who has CM7 installed its just too bland and stock... Sense is way superior IMO and the Sense camera is 100x better than the CM7 offering + iv'e seen screens of MIUI (looks like iOS lol) Definatly dont want that. BUT Thanks anyway dude.
Virtuous affinity is a fantastic Rom mate I was using the unity series but the guys that worked on this have excelled themselves ! So smooth lots of features its great! I love my phone all over again

I know that this isn't a ROM recommendation but iff you want good battery life checkout the accessories section of the forum and look at the evo 3d/sensation battery MOD
ATM I try the new SmartDroid Rom and I'm absolute happy with it. Battery life is great and it's very smooth.

Another useless post.....i remember answering Q's like this many times before as well. Why pppl do not use search?? (i hope a mod steps in here anyway )
There is no such thing called a perfect ROM. What suits my necessities best does not mean that it lives up to your expectation. The battery n stuffs like this are related to how one uses his/her phone, not on the ROM itself (well a little, maybe).
That being said, try one by one yrself n find out one that suits you based.
Too many threads like this. Its down to personal preference and these threads can start into flaming wars/ trolling. Thread closed.
Hi Guys
Looking for best battery life and bug free rom...
As I am just pissed off by battery life by stock rom, i do not mind going on Aosp rom either on gingerbread 2.3, 2.2 or 4.0
hope some experienced people over here at XDA will help me to find out a good battery life and smooth rom for daily use.
Thanks
From my experience, the best rom (fast, bugfree, no lags) that i have came through is splash mod. Now for the battery, you can download easy battery saved. You can then configure it to stop some things when the phone is locked so that battery consumption is reduced. I personally use it and have my phone up for more than 20 hours
The best thing I've found for battery is to buy a spare battery and a wall charger that holds the spare battery, that way by the time my battery is flat my spare one is fully charged. As for the roms its personal preference in my eyes, splashmod may be fast out of the box but I could have a sense based rom running just as fast within half an hour so my advice is try them all and find one that suits you.

Best rom
IMO,I would say the joker rom, spalsh v1.8,and sunaabh. Ive had about 30-60 percent battery life on averga more than stock rom with the 3 I mentioned
I am curious what makes splash rom faster than cm7 since it is based on nightly 256. I think it might be just because of JIT enabled in CM7 (not sure if it is by default) while it is not enabled in splash rom. JIT might (is) causing some delay when executing applications. What do you think?

No there's nothing special about it, its because he's stripped out all the apps to make it a barebones Rom, thats all.
Not for me though I need apps like the clock and don't want to waste my time downloading such apps from the market, I'd rather have a full version and delete what I don't want myself.

For me best rom is RemPuzzleRom fast, stable and good battery life.
I have had the best battery using CM7. I remove unwanted apps using Barebones tutorial.
~20 hours battery life on CM7.
~17 hours on Rempuzzle
Splash mod 2.0 is the best, becouse there is no bugs and it is very friendly to battery
Sent from my Wildfire using XDA
rempuzzlerom and splashmod .... worked really well for me (about 20 hours of battery backup)
I still use stock 2.2 and trust me battery last for 1 to 1.5 days with constant use of twitter, sms, gtalk, call and browsing.
SplashMOD is very smooth, having no issues with it yet, been in use for 2 months. No FCs, all apps working fine.
CM7 was with me for 4-5 months. Towards the end it got very laggy, like seriously jumpy (probably due to neglect), but battery life on splashmod is no where near as good as CM7.
Maybe i just use it more. I think sleep as android and copilot rinse it, which i didnt have on CM7
Am switching to Rempuzzle soon so see what all the crack is about
