Which would u recommend?
Okay I sold my phone, but the person wants nothing to do with Root or Custom Roms, so I have to return this phone to stock Sprint Settings. From what I gathered, I will be flashing Shipped Rom S: D710.0.5S.EG30 Gingerbread 2.3.4 because Official OTA S: D710.0.5S.EL29 Gingerbread 2.3.6 is Rooted from Here. I suppose I can use the Stock Shipped Rom and then let it update OTA. See if you can help me out too, I forgot the ## codes to Reset data and disactivate device and make it ready for new activation. Thanks

Cant help you with the codes but you shold be flashing the stock FF18 or EL29 for gingerbread. Used sfhubs one click package to flash either. Then use the auto-root package to return to stock.

Just download the Odin one click el29 stock and then apply the ics ota update. Completely stock.

Thanks! I got it, so install Official OTA S: D710.0.5S.EL29 Gingerbread 2.3.6 even though its rooted, then unroot with auto root package. Funny how you know these things, but when it matters, you completely forget about the procedures.

I'm a real noob at this but read up as much as I can.
I rooted my T-mo GS3 using this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735561
with CWM.
Now I want to have the update. I'm assuming I can unroot my phone and then do the OTA update, but what methods are available to root the phone after the OTA update? My wife also has one of these phones, and has already done the OTA, but hasn't rooted her phone yet, so I really need this info for both phones. Could I use this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687 to root both our phones? Do I need to unroot and reset the flash counter on my rooted phone before doing that? Does that update included the latest radio update for these phones?
Thanks!
I'm in the same situation as you. And, this is the first time I root my phone.
I read a lot on the forum but it's kind of confuse me.

he mentioned OTA, so it should be the recent Tmo update.
To OP: I know 1 thing that the radio fix is not included in the OTA update

True... Yea you can root with the no trip method. It's stock rom with root so it won't trip count. After that download Rom Manager and add cwm thru there or goo app for twrp recovery

But, if i already root my phone with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1735561 can i still get the OTA update? This is for future reference, let's say the official JB. (i already have the recent OTA t mobile update before i rooted my phone)
Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure. It might work or not maybe even thru Kies. Just depends cuz some were able to update last ota with no problems. I know that if you have custom recovery the OTA will fail unless you have stock recovery with root and use voodoo root keeper to try and keep root. The easiest way will be Odin back to stock and apply jb ota once released then root it back once someone confirms a method or wait till a dev releases a full rom.

Well, I only rooted the phone and did not do anything else on it yet. So, I guess I don't need to use ordin to go back stock? The, I should be able to do the OTA?

as long as you have the stock recovery on your phone and not cwm or twrp, you can get an ota. to be safe, if you ota root keeper in the market youll even keep root

Do you have a link for that method? Does that method work after the update?
Thanks!

Here is the link to the no trip method. It was confirmed in the thread that it worked with latest update installed . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687

I was rooted on the previous stock software. Installed the update via Kies on my windows machine, then re-rooted using this tool:

Everything worked perfectly.

You mentioned a radio 'fix'. But its not a fix that I am aware of. Just an update. As long as you update via odin or kies with the official ota or firmware you will get the FULL update. This means other partitions will receive patches as well. If you update only by flashing a rooted rom using cwm or twrp you will NOT get the updates to the other partitions, including the radio. (You can flash the radio separately of course but would still not get the updates to other partitions).
You can preserve root using the ota rootkeeper, or after updating, reroot using another method.
My recommendation is to update via kies or odin with official firmware and then reroot. (Using ota rootkeeper is up to you).
Hope this helps clear some things up a little for you guys.

Thanks for all the help. I'll try to give it a shot after the weekend and see what happens!
Do I need to root my phone to flash Stock roms via Odin? I want to flash the Stock rom and I wonder if it gonna lose the IMEI? thanks guys
Nope. But you do need root to install a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM. There may be another method but im not familiar with it at the moment.
Anyway you can easily dl one of the stock firmwares from samfirmware.com and install using odin. Provided you just want pure stock.
And you shouldn't have to worry about losing your imei flashing stock with odin. I dont recall that ever hapoening. Besides, imei issues have been solved. Just check the dev section for info.

btw, I'm on stock with latest Tmo update now. Let say I want to flash stock without that update (stock before the update). how does it change my stock recovery? is the recovery still the stock with latest Tmo update?
I dont really understand how the stock recovery works. after I apply the update, is the update applied to the stock recovery too?
As far as I am aware it will rewrite your stock recovery back to whatever version you are installing as well. So long as you use odin and a full firmware file from Samsung.

In short: I want to go from rooted ics to rooted jellybean stock, while in between factory reset or whatever for no overlapping errors.
So the new jellybean update just released and I want to update to it. I'm rooted w/ wicked v7 ROM ICS. The only time I used Odin was when I rooted my phone through the toolkit. So I have the jellybean Odin file, how do I root and install costume recovery after? thx.
Edit: okay I done some more research, I find that I can just use the root66 odin method that already has root which if I remember correctly was the same method used in the toolkit for root? But its not out yet for jellybean. I guess I'll have to wait? I have no idea. I don't know.
Edit2: or wait. I could Odin to root66 ICS, use voodoo root keeper, and ota to jellybean?

Rootkerper or mobile odin pro sre your best options. Check my firmware thread for instructions.
