Hey guys! Not sure if this is in the right section but just wanted to let you know about an app that maybe useful for a lot of ppl with rooted s3's
Cpu Sleeper - Basically turns off 1 core while the screen is off helping improve battery life
Using this with Set CPU My batter life with my screen off drains about 1% about every 1 hour...(I'm connected to wifi @ home not sure what it is on a mobile connection)
Here's the Link in the play store if anyone's interested!

Yup! I have adjusted mine slightly with System Tuner, i forced both cores to be online always, and over clocked it to 1.62ghz and minimum at 384mhz. Ill see how my battery is, and if it uses too much battery ill go back to the default where only one core is on unless its heavy load then the second one comes in.
Did anybody experience any battery saving with this app? I have it installed and I haven't had any problems with my phone dying quickly.

Finally someone with some sense! This is 100% correct. And even when the screen is off, by default the CPU1 goes offline. No offence to eugene and his work, but i think he should stop worrying about this script/app that doesnt really do anything and go back to making those sweet ass kernels he made for the S2. I loved his kernels!!!

I don't have a screenshot right now to post but I get 5+ hours of display time. This is what I can tell you about my setup.
TNZ Blendz ROM ICS Version 2.5.3 EL26
Stock Repack EL26 kernel and radio
Using Tegrak to under volt -75 on internal -100 on core voltage -50 on GPU
I do mostly reading and tweaking on my phone. I play games here and there but when I do its games like Asphault and Dead Space. Depending on if I'm playing games alot I can get anywhere from 4-7 hours of display time.
Also as a side note I removed all of the screen state and voltage scripts from system/etc/init.d since I use Tegrak to do that for me and so there isnt any conflict.
Also forgot to include I normally stay at around 10% brightness unless I'm outside or in direct sunlight. I try to keep my screen turned down as much as possible.

Ive done a 3G radio test with screen off that died at 6.5 hours just to put against that question lol. Decent 3G usage will kill a phone long before a screen will unless I did it wrong. Epic amounts of playtime listening to music on phone maybe pretty good over wifi?
Ive yet to get this much screen time without killing the phone in the same amount of time. I cant say running Calkulin's has made any tremendous difference in my battery life given I keep the screen at 25% which is probably brighter than the auto brightness would after he modified it. Im just an abuser on everything else and normally I like my screen much brighter but can get away with less since I am mostly indoors.
This is my typical daily usage.
Probably about half and half is done on 3G and Wifi
Browse Tapatalk quite often
Read several articles on Google Currents "sync at least once a day"
Checking Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ often
Reading Reddit several times a day.
Emails
Texting, this is do alot of
Google Talk, again this is do alot of
Phone calls, not so much, maybe five calls a day.
Check market daily for updates, sometimes more depending on if apps are updated.
Sync all accounts in PageOnce at least once a day, sometimes more.
I'm sure I missed a few things but that's about the average daily use for me. I spend about 60% of my day on my phone. This thing is a lifeline for me and acts as a hub for my communications if that gives ya an idea of how I use it.
Edit. I will post a screenshot once the day is out. I've been flashing back and forth between CM7 and TNZ and now that I'm back on TNZ with a fresh setup I'm calibrating my battery. Once I get that done I will post some screenshots that may help you see my usages.

But seriously, the power the display uses is based on brightness and, I am pretty sure, on what color is being displayed. those are the only ways to "under volt" the display.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
It can be undervolted at the kernel level as Glitch used to do that with his kernel for the mesmerize/fascinate. It helped a little but not tremendously. And you see absolutely correct as it requires more power to display say white vs black. That's why black wallpapers and inverted apps on amoled displays will help battery. This is the opposite for LCD. I find though that inverted apps like on Reddit and tapatalk make me turn up the brightness at times to be able to see easily which of course counters the savings on power. So I don't use them like that. It all depends on how one uses the phone. What I consider light usage may be heavy to you and so on. Everyone will have different results. But one thing that will always stay common is the display will use more juice than anything else on the phone normally.

well, that's a proof if sgy is a good 'phone' . maybe not too good 'video player' or 'game console' but definitely a good 'phone'. using mostly for text message and voice call with data off and little bit wifi connections. i take that ss while battery on 14-15%, just before connect to charger. so if i let it on battery maybe it could get near 8 days.
using stock dxle, my own kernel, bacem undervoltage -100mv, performance governor, no xxx2sd.

The only way to do this is 1-doing a factory reset 2- make the phone 2g only 3- make your screen brightenes 10% 4- clear the ram every 5 minutes:thumbup:

clearing ram every 5 mins is not a good idea,
it just causes more strain in the CPU
linux memory management is different than windows memory management,
in linux the less ram available the better,
in windows the more ram available the better,
I would like to try and beat that 7 days battery life, but i dont think i can yet,i do too much on my phone, i cant even stop playing games on it and i use hsdpa for internet when im away from home and no wifi near by
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
haha...most new custom kernel here might could do better if you know how to properly set your device. you should note that irfan got that record with performance governor. in our lil test with modified conservative govs, we can only use 1% for 7-8 hours. feels it too exagerating? let's make it half, 1% for 4hours. that's our average test. let say we want to use it till 20%. assuming the number of days is x, the formula will be
(100-20)=24/4*x
80=6x
x=13,3
it means you can have your lil Y survive without a charger plug for almost two weeks!?
copy that picture then show it to your friend who use android. enjoy the moment when his/her face turned red, filled with envy of our lil Y. or even better, vote this thread so that it will be featured in XDA portal so that world can see our lil Y power and how the devs here have worked hard to make this lil Y perform better. another good things? it will be a hard slap on samsung and broadcomm face if they see it. they could kept their source code remain closed and got no improvement on their product, or...they could release that lil source code to public and see how the devs here will "revo" their lil product into "something".
If the processor was 45nm we would get 16days battery life

First I like to point out that this is my first android phone, coming from Apple. So I'm fairly new to this phone moding thing.
Well as the tittle suggest, my phone feels kinda hot after
installing Faux's kernel. I when to sleep with the phone at about 90%~ And 45 mins on battery. Woke up 5 hrs later with battery at 24% and 4h 30 mins until empty. I know that I need to give it time for the system to rebuilt a cache for me to see true battery savings like many of you are posting.
Is this a common thing when switching from a stock kernel? Or will the phone always feels hot?
It shouldn't be running hot nor be draining that much idle, i'm assuming you have a rogue app. Look at your battery stats, your phone should only be awake while the screen is on, unless listening to music or something. If the awake bar is solid across that's no good. Means the phone is not entering sleep mode. Ironically mine just did this today lol, it happens from time to time. Try a simple reboot and then let the phone sit idle and see if it sleeps via the battery menu in settings. If it is, then good your set. If not, get better battery stats from the play store and it will tell you exactly what is running and keeping your phone awake.
Edit: here's a pic of my battery stats today where something went rogue and kept the phone awake, notice the solid awake bar until I rebooted and then it functioned properly where only awake with screen n, and a bit with the screen of as I was streaming pandora. This is what you do NOT want your battery stats to look like. Like I said, if it does, try a simple reboot

Edit 2: the bottom of the phone will feel a bit warm when being used, especially with high brightness, gps, downloading, games etc. This is normal as the cpu is located there. If it's hot or warm while idle, that's not the norm.

Well I was on the Faux's kernel, with the High on Android ROM. I reset everything back to stock ROM / stock kernal, facotry reset and the phone no longer feels hot. But my Play store is not connecting(guess when I flash the gapps it'll come back).
The ktoonz kernel was the first one i tried but it felt kinda laggy and was the reason why I switch to Faux's. Now I'm looking for another ICS ROM that is not all crazy(I liked how simple the High on Android was), and I guess I'll give Ktoonz a try.
What app is good to use with the Ktoonz kernel? Battery manage wise I like the GSM battery mod. I downloaded Better battery status but it never showed me anything on the screen(even after 15mins) like GSM did.
I used to run fauxs and my phone would run hot.. After a month there were no new updates and figure he stopped development.
Went to kt and couldn't be happier. Can oc more, under volt more my phone couldn't be faster and never overhears unless I'm playing a game for a whole.
Kt also is actively developing with a new release every 5-10 days and he is very active in troubleshooting

Not only was my phone overheating, but the battery was also draining like crazy. In about 30 mins of the phone just being idle I lost about 6-8% of the battery life.
So I switched to The Ariel ROM and the Ktoonz kernel. So far no problems. Going to see how battery life is on the default kernel settings before messing around with voltage. All I have changed so far is the I/O, the governor, and the screen off max mhz to 486

Using the 9-23 build, LTE disabled on Bell JB leak LI3 (only options are GSM only or WCDMA only... I've tried both, both get me 2Mbps speed when LTE gets me 30Mbps in Kingston)..... my phone drains faster than it charges on a USB port, or in a car, and takes ALL night to get to get 100%.
I unplug, eat breakfast, and I'm down to 86% this morning with a piping hot phone. I can feel it through my work uniform.
Lame.
Very lame. Bell won't help. Samsung won't help.
Bell: Disable LTE, its a known issue.
Samsung: It has to do with Bells LTE towers. It's your provider, contact them.

I get these types of problems constantly with my S2 (Bell, completely stock). Recently I installed CPU Spy from the play store and low and behold the phone is not going to deep sleep. Sometimes the processor will lock at 1.2Ghz and pretty much burn a hole in my pocket. A reboot fixes it, temporarily.
I advise you to install CPU spy (free) and check out what the processor is doing over time. Could be a app causing the phone to do this as well

If your losing 2-3% an hour its your own fault, choose your apps better. Stock android gets at *least* 2 hours per percent while idle... you installed something you shouldnt have.

So it does exactly what the iPhone does in saving a lot of battery life but...(as so many Android fans claim) not being a true multitasker. I came from an iPhone 4 and I'd take this over losing 2-3% of battery life per hour. Too bad it requires root.

Besides no multitasking
The screen is tiny, No location services (Google Now, Maps, etc..)
No Overclocking... There is plenty more.
But if you're loosing 2-3% something is wrong with your phone. My phone last a good 14 hours with about 3-5 hours screen time alone. You're in a website where the majority of the things will need root. Lol

No way does stock android do that well. There are plenty of battery issue threads in this forum, highlighting the unfortunate massive drain. My battery life is, in comparison to most here, better than average. Nonetheless, there is definitely a drain per hour, perhaps closer to 2%. Here are some pics in which I am stock everything including battery.

Yes way it does... lol... its a fact dude. Flash back to stock and load nothing but your google account. Whatever you've gotta tell yourself though. I laugh at people with battery problems on android, its all your own doing.

Bro your Android System shouldn't be taking that much battery off. Mine never goes 2% on 15+hrs .. Haha
Looks like something is draining your battery. So it is on your end

I started on stock 4.0. Then stock 4.1. And now wild for the night 4.2. All of them have gotten horrible battery life. I can't make it through a day without having to charge. The only thing in battery Stats using more than 15% is android OS. Why does my battery life suck?

I've only had the phone for a month.
Look up betterbatterystats and find your wakelock.

You have bad battery life because you're on AOSP. That's just how it is. Touchwiz gets great life if you can keep the phone running for more than 10 minutes. Aosp runs great and is smooth but at the loss of 75% of run time.

Where did you come up with that information? I get well over 18 usually 20+hours on any of the aosp ROMs with around 2.5 to 3 hours screen on depending on how much I'm outside have to turn brightness up outside

You are ALWAYS lurking kg, and up early too! I was just about to let em have it too
And yes, I tend to agree with mk on this one. Your information on AOSP is flawed, to say the least. And TW Roms work flawlessly as well, so there shouldn't be an issue with them staying on, unless there perhaps was some user error in the initial flash. Your OS should not be running that hard and heavy. It could be something you have running in the background, apps conflicting, etc. As patrao suggested, download Better Battery Stats and see what's eating up your battery. Try DS Battery Saver perhaps. I've heard great things about that app as well from some of the guys on here. I'm running stock debloated and get about 12 hrs with 2-3hrs of full brightness onscreen time. That's pretty standard with TW and no tweaks, mods, etc.

It doesn't matter. There is no way you are wake-locking on every one of those ROMs you've tried. You need a new battery.

Thanks for the tip, got betterbatterystats installed and monitoring over the next few days to see what is happening.
Wakelocks
So I've been using BBS to monitor stuff over the past few days.
Items of interest:
* Awake time is always higher than Screen On by a signifigant amount. Today it is 3:1.
* wimax_driver is always on top of my kernal wakelock list. Does this mean that my phone is searching alot for 4g signals, or is it just the result of other waking processes using my data connection which happens to be 4g?
* PowerManagerService, alarm_rtc and deleted_wake_locks are also high on kernel wakelock list.
* AudioOut_2 is the highest partial wakelock with a count of about 20/hour.
* There are a handful of different partial wakelocks related to Google Maps with high counts. SignalCollector.Scanner does about 100/hour.
I have reduced or removed all syncing/notification apps on my phone without much change.
I have the Virgin Mobile edition of this phone if that makes a difference.

Well one of your battery life problems is Wimax. That will kill your battery real quick, turn it off when you're not using it.

What does that have to do with the Android OS taking up 68% of the phone? This isn't a battery issue, it's a software issue.
I've replaced my wife's battery twice, and still have the same issue this guy's having.
Get xposed framework app, greenify and enable the module in xposed. Then get better battery stats, DS Battery saver and flash comadose tweaks in Android development. Go into location settings and disable everything in there. Aosp roms have great battery life and tw roms are incredibly stable. Use your 4g when needed and turn data off completely when you don't need. With those tweaks I get 2 hours screen time with 6-7 total hours on the phone but I'm a heavy user. Ymmv
