First I like to point out that this is my first android phone, coming from Apple. So I'm fairly new to this phone moding thing.
Well as the tittle suggest, my phone feels kinda hot after
installing Faux's kernel. I when to sleep with the phone at about 90%~ And 45 mins on battery. Woke up 5 hrs later with battery at 24% and 4h 30 mins until empty. I know that I need to give it time for the system to rebuilt a cache for me to see true battery savings like many of you are posting.
Is this a common thing when switching from a stock kernel? Or will the phone always feels hot?
It shouldn't be running hot nor be draining that much idle, i'm assuming you have a rogue app. Look at your battery stats, your phone should only be awake while the screen is on, unless listening to music or something. If the awake bar is solid across that's no good. Means the phone is not entering sleep mode. Ironically mine just did this today lol, it happens from time to time. Try a simple reboot and then let the phone sit idle and see if it sleeps via the battery menu in settings. If it is, then good your set. If not, get better battery stats from the play store and it will tell you exactly what is running and keeping your phone awake.
Edit: here's a pic of my battery stats today where something went rogue and kept the phone awake, notice the solid awake bar until I rebooted and then it functioned properly where only awake with screen n, and a bit with the screen of as I was streaming pandora. This is what you do NOT want your battery stats to look like. Like I said, if it does, try a simple reboot

Edit 2: the bottom of the phone will feel a bit warm when being used, especially with high brightness, gps, downloading, games etc. This is normal as the cpu is located there. If it's hot or warm while idle, that's not the norm.

Thanks. But I'm suspecting that is the ROM I was using. I'm going to do a full restore and reflash everything.
Its not the rom..thats impossible! Its has to be the kernel go get ktoonz 9-23 and u will be fine and u can oc to 2.1

Well I was on the Faux's kernel, with the High on Android ROM. I reset everything back to stock ROM / stock kernal, facotry reset and the phone no longer feels hot. But my Play store is not connecting(guess when I flash the gapps it'll come back).
The ktoonz kernel was the first one i tried but it felt kinda laggy and was the reason why I switch to Faux's. Now I'm looking for another ICS ROM that is not all crazy(I liked how simple the High on Android was), and I guess I'll give Ktoonz a try.
What app is good to use with the Ktoonz kernel? Battery manage wise I like the GSM battery mod. I downloaded Better battery status but it never showed me anything on the screen(even after 15mins) like GSM did.
I used to run fauxs and my phone would run hot.. After a month there were no new updates and figure he stopped development.
Went to kt and couldn't be happier. Can oc more, under volt more my phone couldn't be faster and never overhears unless I'm playing a game for a whole.
Kt also is actively developing with a new release every 5-10 days and he is very active in troubleshooting

Not only was my phone overheating, but the battery was also draining like crazy. In about 30 mins of the phone just being idle I lost about 6-8% of the battery life.
So I switched to The Ariel ROM and the Ktoonz kernel. So far no problems. Going to see how battery life is on the default kernel settings before messing around with voltage. All I have changed so far is the I/O, the governor, and the screen off max mhz to 486

Using the 9-23 build, LTE disabled on Bell JB leak LI3 (only options are GSM only or WCDMA only... I've tried both, both get me 2Mbps speed when LTE gets me 30Mbps in Kingston)..... my phone drains faster than it charges on a USB port, or in a car, and takes ALL night to get to get 100%.
I unplug, eat breakfast, and I'm down to 86% this morning with a piping hot phone. I can feel it through my work uniform.
Lame.
Very lame. Bell won't help. Samsung won't help.
Bell: Disable LTE, its a known issue.
Samsung: It has to do with Bells LTE towers. It's your provider, contact them.
I'm getting extremely frustrated.

I get these types of problems constantly with my S2 (Bell, completely stock). Recently I installed CPU Spy from the play store and low and behold the phone is not going to deep sleep. Sometimes the processor will lock at 1.2Ghz and pretty much burn a hole in my pocket. A reboot fixes it, temporarily.
I advise you to install CPU spy (free) and check out what the processor is doing over time. Could be a app causing the phone to do this as well

I put the leaked 2.2 update onto my phone and it has been great. I have only had one issue with it thus far. Starting yesterday my battery life plummeted drastically out of the blue. It seems like it came out of thin air. There is no water damage or anything. I am avoiding doing a data reset. Does any one have any other suggestions?
Is your phone staying constantly awake? Is there an App causing it stay running? Are all of your apps up to date?
I've been on a 2.2 ROM for over a month and I have great battery life, even with my overclocked kernel.

I use Advanced Task Killer and my phone goes to sleep after 1 min. 2.2 Worked perfect with great bettery life for about 2 weeks. But last night everything went downhill. It maybe an App i downloaded? but i looked in my apps and things seemed to look normal.
Do you have the task killer automatically set to kill after a certain amount of time? If you do you may be killing processes only to have them be restarted right away by android system, then killed again, restarts...and so on. That will kill your battery like crazy! To be honest, try going 24 hours without your task killer and see what happens, I noticed an improvement. The way android manages it's processes there is no need for a 3rd party task killer. Also try the KingzKernel's they are fantastic with battery life.
Why Task Killers are not needed.http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/

I'm having the exact same issue. I just flashed SkyRaider 2.5.2 the other night and Radio 2.15.
The problem I'm having is that my charge is taking almost 4-5 hours to charge when it use to only take a couple hours. Also, my battery is draining QUICK.
I just clocked it and I went from 100% battery after a 12-hour charge to 93% in about five minutes.
PLEASE, someone help with this issue.
I never had any issues with the original 7/28 leak (or whatever the date was), and once having the bugs worked out, never bothered with the 8/1 leak. I did the 8/26 leak as soon as it came out and was plagued with charge times exceeding my 7-hour per day sleep schedule, and battery life that would drop drastically with the screen off. I literally went from 40% to 5% in a matter of two hours with my phone sitting on my desk, screen off. I used nandroid restore to go back to the 7/28 leak i had backed up. I'm not sure where the bug is, but I hope Verizon/HTC release this update soon, so the OTHER 95% of Incredible owners can start *****ing too. Then maybe something will get done.
I tried bump charging this morning and it made no difference whatsoever. Withing 2 hours I'm at 35%. No Facebook syncing or really anything syncing for that matter... Just a crappy battery issue. Tried different Kernels and no difference which leads me to believe it may be Froyo or the Rom I'm using which is the virtuous Rom but that doesn't make sense....
I'm surprised this has not been addressed on a much larger scale within the XDA community. There is no way anyone could enjoy their Dinc with that much battery drain.
I am using the 3500 mAh battery and with stock phone and no root I was able to charge my phone in about an hour and could get nearly 2 days with heavy usage. Now I'm not sure I can even get 12 hours, but I haven't fully tested that theory yet.
My plan today is to do a full charge (Which will be done in a matter of minutes) and then I am going to do some clocking to see exactly how long it takes to discharge.
Regardless, why is this not a major concern in the community? I only see a few posts relating to it.
Ok, so I think this has been brought up before.
When my phone is at a complete IDLE (89%), my CPU is rocking out at 900+MHz.... I think this is what is causing my severe battery drain. Can any developers respond to this or can someone else advise? My sister who uses her stock phone with no root, etc is idling between 245MHz and 320MHz.
My battery is dropping way to quick and this has to be the answer. Please help. Thanks!

Thing is...
If you're on this forum, you're probably a constant tweeker. The so called "battery issue" is all over the place depending on who you talk to. I wrote "Making Your Droid's Battery Incredible" over at my website, but essentially you need to figure this out yourself. Battery usage depends on so many things like the programs you run, the kernel you're using, and the battery you have (and the condition of said battery). If there were a uniform problem, it would be much easier to identify.
Oh, and if you're humming along at 900mhz while idle, try SetCPU.
Are you guys with GREAT battery using any Widgets, CPU Overclocking Apps, etc.? I'm trying to figure out how my EF02 battery life is so horrible (in 3 hours, I went from 70% to >10%). I love the stability of EF02 and Netflix, but I cannot stay on EF02 if my battery needs charge three times a day.

I just did CPU spy and it says I'm in 1000 Mhz 34% of the time. Why on earth is my phone running so quick?! It's draining my battery so fast lol. If you're using setCPU or CPU Master, let me know which governor you're using.
Mine runs fine on Deodexed EF02 w/ EF02 modem.
Have at least one widget on every page (out of 5 pages)
Killed all my services, using ADW launcher
That's pretty much it. No Juice Defender or no CPU changes or anything.
If you're in absolute dead zone, that will kill your battery. Does it to mine on EF02 still. But not that bad. Maybe like 4% loss in 30 minutes in a dead zone (this includes a couple of calls and texts)
If nothing works, try calibrating your battery.

Im just running the leak straight up getting the best battery savings I've ever had. Have all the stock stuff running too. I have noticed that sometimes battery life after a flash or odin is terrible. It usually takes a day to sort out. At first I had around the same cpu usage as you with ef02. sometimes a restart every morning helps a bunch.

I have the stock EF02 running with the EF10 Modem. I got over 1 day on the stock battery with almost 2 and a half hours of screen on time. I have autostarts killing most everything at startup (frankly it is amazing how many things want to be running) I have gmail set to push, Words with Friends is set to 5 minutes. I have the screen set to the lowest setting and it was on wifi for most of the day. I charged it at 7% battery left because of a phone call...would have lasted longer. Also, it could have lasted longer but I left Words with Friends running. You would not think it would use much while idle, but my phone was pretty warm when I picked it up. As far as widgets... I have Beautiful Widgets Superclock and Battery, Google Search, and Google Docs. I am using Zeam Launcher and Live Wallpaper. I am not using any CPU program

As a rule, I avoid all but two widgets: my task killer (manual kill only), and power control. I don't really need Netflix with my HBO GO app... but then again I don't really even use that haha. Watching movies on a 4 inch screen doesn't do it, that's what tablets are for, kinda. Until they allow TV-out and super-boost the battery, I'm sticking with my customized Froyo rom. Depending on usage, I can rock up to 4 days.
Have you tried Voltage Control?
Edit: Apparently SetCPU has been updated, so if you're not on the latest version, you can check out the new one.
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering whether anybody else has experienced this side effect of the ITL41F update? My battery life has been really really good, much better than that of my HD7. I was really chuffed with it. Along comes the ITL41F update, and since then the battery will drain itself on standby. Nothing has changed on my phone. I have not installed any new apps or made any settings changes (such as sync frequency, etc). So the only difference is the ITL41F update.
To give you an idea, If I charge the phone in the late afternoon, and then pretty much leave it alone, by the morning it will have gone down to 15% battery or less. This morning I plugged it in again, and now it's down to 50%. And I only sent a single txt message and didn't do anything else on the phone. This is properly rubbish.
Anybody know where I can report this bug to Google/Samsung?

I would say your mobile signal is using up a lot battery. when it is yellow that means its weak, and grey means no signal. Since this is the main 2 colours on your chart I would say this would be the main reason for your battery drain

Are you seriously asking that question?
You improve your mobile signal but getting your network provider to install another mast, or switch to a different network with better coverage in your area.
If you could improve signal with APN settings or flashing a different radio it would be done like that from the factory!
WEll, I have a LG Optimus One and use franco kernel with it, and am soon buying a GN because he develops for it too, SO:
FLASH FRANCO KERNEL!
DOnate him a beer before and ten after the WOW-experience you'll get when you realise 4 days later that your battery is only 10% becuase of the popup.
And now read my words again.
It's the best option!
Your phone was awake for more than 50% of the time. If you really didn't use it, there's most likely a rogue app which is preventing phone from going into deep sleep.
Use an app like System panel to locate the culprit.
nevermind - delete me
Thanks for the fast replies guys, it's much appreciated! =)
What I find puzzling is that absolutely NOTHING has changed on the phone, apart from the update. So if there was a rogue app that was consuming the battery, it should have exhibited that behaviour before the update, right?
I will check with system monitor though, to see if I can spot something. The strange thing I noticed is that the OS is consuming *more* battery than most other functions. Even on standby.... weird!
After finally getting the patch I can't say the battery has been worse. In fact it seems to be better. Although I think that is down to the fact I've been through a few charge cycles now.
click on android OS, and check out the awake and CPU times. The cpu time should be a fractions of the time awake.
example, my phone has been on this charge for 22 hours (still 36% battery left.. didn't use it too much this charge). the leading battery drain is screen at 51% (2.5 hours awake time), and the 2nd leading item is Android OS which has the following:
CPU Total - 18m 53s
Keep Awake - 4h 46m 9s
I'm just curious on why your CPU total was in relation to the awake time by Android OS.
Mines great.

its funny how many similar theads appear everytime a phone gets updated. And most of them all go down to user error.
Just saying. my Gnex is fine after 11F update, OP should probably do a wipe
Guys, I'm not ruling out 'user error', but at this moment in time I cannot see what I could have possibly done to cause it. I have purchased System Panel on the Market and I'm running it in monitoring mode to see if it can shed some light on the issue. Strangely, 'Cut the Rope' and 'Exchange' are running constantly and as a service. Not necessarily consuming CPU while the phone is asleep though. Just though it would be strange for a game to be running as a service? Must be a reason for it....
Ask the developper of "Cut the Rope" why does it need to run that way. Exchange is run as a service because you probably need it.
Anyways, you can try a clean flash with stock ITL41F. But i'd say apps are to blame

as for the batt. % i get that all the time even when i reboot..tho i get a bigger drop in % when the batter is lower.. like if i was at 50% batt power.. reboot then i would be like at 20% batt. power.. but it would stay at 20% for a really long time till it caught up with it. and sometimes the batter % would rise up a bit. but eventually start to go down again.
But maybe I have a bad battery also.. so im not sure...lol

I had the exact same problem my phone would constantly reboot and shut itself off then I would lose half my battery % I thought it was the battery too so I returned it to stock and took it to sprint they looked at the phone for 2 hours and said there was absolutely nothing wrong with it or the battery. So I took it home and re rooted using Qbking77's latest method the one that does not give you the yellow triangle and I have not had one reboot or sleep of death since and the phone just runs soo much better now so I think it was a bad root for me. I would try re rooting with the latest method and see what that does for you. Also ya out of curiosity what rom are you using because I have heard similar stories from people running the ICS leaks.

I'm running caulk's fc07 1.1 with the repacked kernal. It happened to me before on GB while also running caulk's rom but it only a few times. It seems to happen more now. Here is a screen of my battery
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA Premium App
I believe this would happen more in most recent ROMs because everyone is focusing how fast we can run it or how long we can use it. In either case, there are lots of tweaks and mechanism to make it fast and last long.
For the battery life, there is some background process monitoring unnecessary processes and kills those or tweaks to less frequently monitor the status. So, if the process which is related to battery life is killed, next time when it wake up, it may detect the different life time based on current Voltage or mA. I'm not an expert in this area but it's highly possible scenario. Tweaking the system brings lots of good things to us but in the other side, there could be some
side effect.
If you want to verify this theory, you can just compare the non tweaked rom versus tweaked Rom.
Be sure that you don't run any battery saver apps on non tweaked rom to measure it correctly.
Attached is my last screenshot yesterday after I removed the battery saver app. Currently I'm using Calk's Stock Rom FC07 (non tweaked version). Based on my test, the battery last longer than when battery save app installed and running.
Cool I didn't know that would be an issue. Well I'll try that thanks for help

Just curious if this is what I should expect
Sprint Running stock with jame bond

How long was your screen on? Have trained the battery? Mine will hang in to that last 5percent for quite awhile before it dies. I get more than 4 hours of screen on time with 2 hours of calls when on wifi.

tweaks?
screen on/awake times?
usage?
1 screenshot tells us nothing. But that looks pretty bad unless 3 hours of that was screen on time.

He's LTE. It says Sprint stock with James bond kernel in the OP.

Woops didn't see. Edited.
That's really bad then because he's just on EVDO (3G), not even on LTE assumedly.
We need to see his awake/screen on times. He's probably got some wakelock problems (at least).
Sounds about right. I usually get 6+ hours (heavy usage).
Stock 1750mah.

Yeah my battery drains super fast when only on 3g. Nothing else running. When i try to actually use it like my last phone the thing drains like crazy. Tried both cm and stock. And diff kernels. I let my battery die and charge it fully over 5 times already. Another thing I noticed. I went to bed with 93% I wake up 8 hrs later. And its drained half way. Mind u its not even being used. I'm confused. the GSM g nex I used to have before used to last over 24 hours for me all the time no problem. If its the same phone. Why are the results so different. Its a huge difference. I find myself having to turn my phone off for a couple hours just so it can last thru my work day without dying on me.
Can it be the 3g that's making it drain so fast? What makes me believe this is when I am on 3g the top part of the back of the phone gets extremely hot. But when I'm on wifi. Its cooler than the other side of the pillow.

Well there is your problem. You are using a 1750 battery when 1850 is stock for Verizon.

No. It is something else on your device, or you have it on CDMA/LTE and it is straining for a signal.

Hmm. That mustve been it. I just checked and it was in lte CDma but its funny because I changed it to cdma only before. But I guess it must be going to lte cdma by default every time I flash a new rom and I assumed it would stay in cdma by default. Thanks for reminding me about that. Completely forgot. New to Cdma been GSM for a long time. Hopefully I see a difference in battery life.

I was walking in some trails the last hour so I had really bad signal too

<1hr on screen time and that kind of drain, unless you're in an area with no bars of any kind and it's constantly searching I would take that battery to the store and have them test it to make sure it's good.

O
Probably will thanks for the info. I been having worse battery life so that's actually better then before. But anyways I will go to sprint

Not impressed
Edit: it dropped another 5% as I posted this
If a post drains 5%, you have issues or need to type faster, by about an hour.
Or how about some heavy Temple Run play while on LTE in a fringe area that drops it a lot? Standard battery overclocked to 1.35ghz at standard voltage. No undervolting at all.
would you mind sharing rom/kernel set up
BAMF Paradigm, kernel and rom.
The repos are on IMM76I, but current release is on IMM76D.
IMM76I is just a kernel change for GSM users anyway.
The kernel is nothing special and has no battery saving qualities over stock though.
I'm getting better battery life now somehow
