I am going to be receiving my One X in the mail sometime later today. I was definitely going to put custom roms on it, and I was intending on using this universal bootloader unlock, instead of the HTC Dev method. Just hoping I could save my warranty. Here's a link to the thread.

Anyway if I ever needed warranty for anything I was wondering if it is possible to get the bootloader to "locked" instead of "relocked". Also i bought the international edition off of ebay, i was wondering if I got warranty on it here in the U.S?

No and No.
We don't have S-Off yet.
The problem with the latter has to do with import restrictions due to Apple being <expletive>. Well, somebody else said they couldn't get a mainboard, that might change, but don't hold your breath. HTC do provide a warranty it in theory though, but unlocking it won't help.
OK thanks for the info. Probably still going to unlock it, but at least I know what I'm getting into.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that method works with the One X. On pg18 of that thread "Seaskyways" says that only "MTD" devices work.

hi every one, i bought one x (tegra) today and it's fantastic smartphone! But i've got a question: if i unlock bootloader with htcdev.com tool, i'll lose warranty, and if i reblock it, problem is the same. is it possible to do anything or not?
p.s. i didn't unlock it yet, it's only for info

Do you mean RETURN, or warranty repair. Two separate things. Returns are usually limited to a 30 day window, in which case my advice to you would be to wait 30 days to make sure you want to keep the phone before you unlock it. That's the safest way to go.
As for warranty replacements/repairs, that's more of a grey area and I'm not honestly sure.

so if i unlock device and it casually breaks, it will be repaired without any problem?
and if it'll brick (software)?

If you brick it due to custom roms or overclock then no you are not covered. If it is say due to screen pops out and not your fault then you are covered mate. So in general hardware related and not caused by you you are covered. Hardware issues but cause of third party software then you are not . There is a thread in general which goes more.in depth

Wondering about HTC's extremely vague message at htcdev.com. "unlocking bootloader may void part or all of your warranty" whereas under the q&a, etc, it sounds more like if you brick your device they won't be responsible. How void is the warranty after bootloader unlock?
i'm assuming there's no way to relock it later.. been out of the ROM flashing scene for a while, so can someone advise me on this?
From what I heard it fully voids it. Even if you lock it again it says re-locked.

There are mixed comments on this matter. Some have managed to get their hardware issues fixed on unlocked phones. BUT its safe to assume unlocking boot loader completely voids warranty unless you get an official confirmation from your regional HTC office stating otherwise.
Alright thanks

Bricked One X
Hi All,
I bricked my One X being a noob I then relocked the bootloader (it said relocked) sent the phone off to O2 under warranty they tried to charge me £178.99 for the repair apparently it was "physical damage" i complained as the phone was immaculate and o2 replaced it free of charge!
..well hello new One X.. I've not stumped up the courage to root this one yet just encase!
http://dl4.htc.com/Web_materials/Manual/Warranty/Android/0525_B_WarrantyEULA_76x126_N-EU.pdf
Certainly reading their "Northern Europe" Limited Warranty Statement it would appear that the warranty still applies for hardware issues (section 4), and no where in section 7 does it say it will be voided by unlocking the bootloader.
ZM
Indeed. Havnt had problems with my one x but the nexus1 was also by HTC and after unlocking warranty was fine as long as
The problem was hardware
I had relocked the boot loader and was running stock software
Meaning if you relock then flash an ruu. You should be OK unless you caused the damage

In theory and probably UK consumer law it won't void it but HTC appear to be being [email protected] about it in the UK...

I dropped my hox to t-mobile store here in the UK to get send for repair, the GPS was all over the place. The phone was unlocked but still on stock rom. I got a txt 6 days later saying that the phone was ready for collection. It came back unlocked, wiped, and still with cw recovery. They didn't charge me a penny and GPS looks like its been fixed.

Hi! A develepor is trying to buy my phone. It's an HTC One X S-Off and it has a CID of 11111111. I don't know much about these things though I know that my phone is kinda 'rare'. Anyway, his offer is $700. Is this a good price?
As far as I know the one series doesn't have s off
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Your phone is rare, just name your price or keep it for your self for easy flashing without using fastboot
sent from my One X using xda venom premium
dont think there is really a set price for s-off it is rare but i wouldn't pay a premium over any other one x not as if its 24 carrot gold or one of a kind
It's rare for now... Pretty sure one day they'll be a way.. *evil laugh* *rubs hands together in a evil way* SOON!

As you may already know, once you unlock the bootloader of a S-ON phone you can do everything you can do with a S-Off phone (with the minor inconvenience of using a computer to flash the boot.img). For me the only advantage of having a S-OFF phone is the ability to flash without unlocking the boot loader and potentially voiding the warranty, therefore unless you are going to sell with all the receipts for the buyer to be able to claim warranty, having S-Off doesn't really add any value.

Flashing unsigned roms
Hey all,
I want to call HTC and get them to fix my phone (hopefully free). It's under warranty and after the JB update it is simply unresponsive. I've tried all kinds of roms, stock RUU, etc, no fix. So maybe it's a hardware thing. Either way, I want to know how to get them to think I haven't broken my warranty (the global warranty).
So, i install stock RUU and lock the bootloader, but don't they know that I unlocked it in the first place?
Anyone who's worked with them, please let me know how to deal with them and make it seem like I haven't flashed the crap out of my phone.

what is the problem that makes you send it for repair? If it's a hardware problem then it's them who are going to fool you.
currently the only way to fool them is S-Off the phone, which is not possible.

Well I stated the problem in the original thread. It's unresponsive, screen flickers, etc. I'm looking for someone that's sent a phone to them that has had a bootloader unclocked and relocked and still got the warranty.
I sent my HTC Sensation away when the touchscreen became inop, but my telco was the one that approved the repair and HTC's local agent did the repair, and that was s-off, unlocked and rooted; got it back repaired and with the exact same data as when it left.
Mind you I'm in the backwater the world calls Oz.
I sent my HOX twice with "Relocked" bootloader for wifi and "screen flex" problem, and they have done no problem!
The 80-90% of the relocked devices with HW issues will be repaired with no problems.
Obviously if your problem is an SW software they will NEVER repair your phone
Hey all,
I don't know what to do... I have a HTC One M8 and unfortunately it came with a firmware incapable of being s-off'd with Firewater... After a few days of usage I noticed that my IR Blaster had stopped working completely and I have TWO days left on my 14-day return period. (today and tomorrow) I don't get paid till Monday and it will be too late for me to pay for the SunShine S-Off to return my device to the T-Mobile store... What can I do? I have no problem paying it is just that I cannot do so right this moment... Is there a dev for SunShine that I could contact to maybe arrange something? I am so scared I'll be stuck with this broken device. :'(
I assume you've rooted it? As you've not mentioned that you have so far there's nothing to stop you sending it back...

Yes I have and it shows tampered/unlocked.
Ah, OK...in which case without Sunshine you're stuck. You'd be able to go back to stock by flashing your backup and stock recovery but without S-OFF they'll always know

I'm pretty sure you can use a T-Mobile RUU by relocking the bootloader to return to stock.
RUU here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456
Dire need? Just wow.

Also, you could just try and return it as is (assuming you still have a Sense ROM loaded onto the device). I've returned phones both completely back to stock and rooted with custom ROMS/Recoveries and they don't care or even check (in my experience). Heck, I had one guy not even open the box to make sure the phone was actually in the box. As long as it's powered on you should be fine.
