So I received my unlocked Lumia 900 today, loaded up my SIM Card, and everything works barring a couple of hiccups with logging into Windows Live, which it finally did!
So calls, data, internet are all good - albeit like the 800 I am only getting EDGE
Beautiful phone though.. outclasses the 800..
One Other Comment for T-Mobile USA Who May Follow..
One thing that drove me crazy was the phone would not log into Windows Live, which of course is my lifeblood..
Was driving me crazy because all the posts and sites I could find indicated that it had to do with a data problem and APN not being correct. However, I could SMS and even MMS as well as browse the internet, so figured it couldn't be data.
Went back and rather than trying to sign in to Windows Live, I selected Create Account and created a bogus account. Noticed on that account instead of "(name)@hotmail.com" like before, now it was "(name)@live.com"
I think MS must be pushing ahead to debrand hotmail and zune; I went online with my PC, changed my live id to my same name but "@live.com. Went back to phone, signed out of the bogus account and signed in with my revised @live.com name, and got right in.
So good news is I'm now up and running with all of my apps downloaded and working, but I have to tell you that the new phone just was not going to allow a "hotmail" sign in no matter what; even though now it's downloading my hotmail emails just fine..
Was glad to see MMS was working well; I've read that some are having problems with this.
Also, my Lumia 800 had a fluke with Bluetooth connecting and disconnecting every 30 seconds while idle - drove me bonkers - and read that some 900's had this defect. Happily, this unit is ROCK SOLID with bluetooth.
For those curious, I bought the unlocked unit off eBay. Cyan - and branded originally "SmarTone" which I think is out of Singapore. As mentioned earlier, it came with Tango already installed. Zune did a large Nokia update, so now running 8779.
God this is beautiful.. Windows really pops with the larger screen!!!
Camera Pink Spot Gone!!!
Hey I noticed one other thing.
In low level, incandescent light with no flash, I'd always get a pink burn in the center of photos taken with my Lumia 800.
On my new Lumia 900, the pink burn still appears on the screen in viewfinder mode, but noticed once the shot is taken, the pink spot does not appear in the actual photo - good work Nokia!!
I am getting happier by the minute for making this change!
Used it on my Samsung Focus
I had unlocked my ATT Samsung Focus and used it on Tmobile's network and sure enough I was only getting 2G aka edge. I put up with the slow speeds for about 10days before I bought a Lumia 710 so I could get full speeds.
I might get a Lumia 900 this week and I'm dreading going back to using the slow edge speeds. But I really want to use the phone since its such a gorgeous device.

Yeah 3G I miss, but you know with Nokia Drive it doesn't matter with preloaded maps and direct to satellite GPS.
I'm around WiFi so often though not having it is not a disaster. But I am counting the days for T-Mobile to finish refarming their spectrums so this will start picking up 3G..

It should pick up more than 3G once T-Mobile's rolled out the new bands.
If you plan on keeping it for a while then I can see it being a worthwhile investment. But if you're planning on getting a WP 8 device, then just wait. Save your money and buy the best phone in October.

You went to the Google I/O?! I wanted to go so bad man. Ugh. xD Btw, why don't you have Qik, you can set it up from the phone itself. Its very very easy. If you need any help let me know.
Where do you buy I/O tickets? I want to go next year.
Im FROM Puerto Rico, not living there though.
I'm from PR, living there atm, just switched over to Sprint... Any of you guys been w/them for long?
To be honest, I haven't even opened Quik yet! I got my phone on Monday (ordered online to take advantage of a StudentRate discount) and I really haven't had much time to play with it. Will post back when I've messed around w/Quik, might try rooting it as well tonight or tomorrow... New to Android, been trying to read up on stuff here and there and catch up.
EVO in bayamon. The phone is very good but the Sprint network not so much. With a 3G usb modem from AT&T I get close to 2Mbps in most places but with Sprint it stays around 200-300Kbps. Only in some places I have hit what seems to be a cap of 1Mbps. During the 4th weekend I saw the phone roaming a couple times while in the south-west area and DATA was almost unusable.
Hows the network behaving for the rest of you?
Evo from Bayamon! Too!
my Qik is NeoDark
It's behaved fine for me, I haven't had any signal issues around the metro area 'cept at home and AT&T had weak reception here as well. I live close to Bayamon, behind Buchanan, in Tintillo... At the front end of the house reception's fine, at the back end (in my room) it's borderline (data's unusable, but I can just use WiFi so it don't bother me).
I've seen it roam (I'm guessing on Claro's network?) ocasionally, when at home or at Plaza Las Americas (where everyone gets spotty reception) but it's been solid otherwise.
I haven't really bothered testing my 3G speeds... I wouldn't be surprised at all if AT&T had better peak speeds tho, that's usually the case in the US, and I'm guessing that just like over there, they have a better built-out network here as well... I've heard over in the US they can be more inconsistent tho, or have more blacked out areas compared to VZW/Sprint (and then there's all the issues they've had in dense places like NYC and SF).
I'm happy with the service overall, and I haven't even accepted the OTA patch w/the new radio updates... I wanted to root and get it via an updated ROM but I haven't had the time to do it. Looking forward to vising a friend in Aguadilla to see how the EVO and Sprint behaves elsewhere around the island.
Oh and btw, if you're comparing the AT&T modem speeds to tests done on the EVO itself, that's kind of a skewed comparison... The modem's always gonna win out. Try tethering the EVO and see what you get, you don't need to root it to do so, you can use PDANet.
I think Sprint might do some mayor upgrades in the next year in PR. Maybe even roll out wimax/4g. As far as I understand they dont have that good coverage right now and depend on other CDMA providers for roaming. They can use claro or centennial for roaming but that can change in the near future.
Claro is already running on GSM and I dont see much benefit on keeping the old CDMA network up. Running both CDMA and GSM must have costs and Sprint must consider that claro might decide to shutdown their CDMA network in the future.
Centenial runs on CDMA but now that they were sold to AT&T its not clear whats going to happen with their network. One of the conditions imposed by the FCC/JuntaReglamentadora is that AT&T must keep the CDMA network for at least 26 months before merging or shutting it down.
With all this happening I would expect Sprint to play it safe and upgrade their network all around.
anyone knows more about this?
I have no clue, but it's possible Sprint could end up buying some of Claro/Centennial's CDMA towers and equipment if they're gonna transition to GSM 100%... Would only make sense. Doesn't matter much to me, it's not like I've got many other national carrier options besides AT&T and Sprint, 'least not until T-Mobile finally decides to deploy 3G down here (it's taking them waayyy too long). So I'm alright w/Sprint as long as the service doesn't start outright sucking... I switched to Sprint from AT&T mostly for the EVO, got tired of waiting for AT&T to release a decent Android phone, and after they capped their data plans at 2GB there's no way I'd go back to them and start paying more for less minutes and less flexibility.
I used up 1GB of data on my first month with Sprint and I wasn't even doing anything particularly fancy, no video chat, no big downloads, no music streaming at all, no tethering, nada; just web browsing and viewing maybe half a dozen YouTube clips a week. I've also been using WiFi religiously while I'm at home (to preserve battery life). I could easily see myself blasting right past 2GB of usage once I start doing any (or all) of those things
exact same situation here. got tired of AT&T and their half-assed attempts at offering good phones and their customer service leaves you feeling they do the minimum required to get by. I switched for Sprint for the EVO and many references from people saying Sprint's customer service is good. So far I have no complaints besides the "$10 premium data charge" scam:
explainthefee.com
I was just told by a sprint rep today that we will not be getting 4G for sprint it will be a while before we receive 4G so people start complaining
Hi everyone,
I have a generic unlocked desire 2.2, unrooted, as standard as they come and connected to Orange.
When I run on GSM only mode in network settings my phone is fine...
BUT..
Enable WCDMA or WCDMA auto mode.... and it will connect to 3G for about 10/20 secs then drop the whole lot, "emergency calls only" is all I can get.
I live in town with full 3G,and have tried at my girlfriends 100 miles away too. This has been going on for about 3 weeks, and so far I have.......
Hard reset a couple of times....
Had a new SIM from Orange...
Tried a different SIM (O2) in my phone - which works perfectly, sat browsing on H for about half an hour or more with no problem.
Tried my SIM in a different phone (Touch Pro) - works perfectly as well! 3G and browsing internet all fine.
So - Orange say its the handset.... and I'm not sure their 2nd level tech really exist, cos I've never got to speak to them or had the promised callback!
and HTC reckon its a network issue.
I can see both sides, but that doesnt help when your stuck in the middle with sloooooow internet.
The only other thing I can think is that Orange dont like the fact I'm on unlimited data and using it, I hit about 900mb a month normally and 2Gb in Nov when my home broadband died for about a week. perhaps they have blocked my handset from 3G? If so they havent told me though! I have one of the panther tariffs from mid last year which were "unlimited".
Any suggestions would be very appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Chris
Sounds strange indeed......
Theoreticly speaking, they could have placed some sort of a limit on your account to reduce the load on their network, but It'll be hard to prove. (Maybe you know someone who works there???)
You can look for your plan's contract (or ask them to fax it to you) - maybe it states the minimal speed of connection....
Threaten to disconnect if your speed does not improve..... Realy can't think of anything else.
EDIT:
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10865272&postcount=5
Thanks,
I have tried all the options in that menu with no success.
Eventually last night I got orange 2nd level tech who was equally confused and could only suggest a radio version conflict with my handset and network.
Anyway they gave me a fault code which CPW (I purchased from mobiles.co.uk) looked at and glazed over.
I have called HTC direct now and they are having it in for warranty repair. 10 days with my old touch pro... how bad can i be?
Wouldnt surprise me if they send it back NFF........
fingers crossed!
EDIT: THE TOUCH PRO IS AWFUL!
Chris
I enable cellular data, and there is like a 5% chance it will ever work. The rest 95% times I have to restart my phone for it to work. Sometimes its working fine and then all of a sudden it stop, and again I have to restart my phone.
P.S my data connection is perfectly fine. No problems there.
Not seeing this on my phone and the DVP is notorious for some of its issues. So, maybe it's not WP7, just your phone.
Happens to me quite a bit. It just refuses to load over 3G. H and G work although the later is far too slow
I don't have any connection issues either. It's most definitely your phone. Maybe you could try and install another radio?
What is your carrier?
I have the same problem on my Omnia 7. It works for a week, and then it doesn't for a couple of hours. So frustrating! It's not branded, and I've talked to my carrier, but they cannot find any problems at their end.
Sent from my Omnia 7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Reception is poor on the HD7 as well, compared to the Vibrant. Factorably poor to the point that anyone who is buying the phone primarily for a phone would pass up the HD7 for the Vibrant due to Reception/Call Quality/Speakerphone quality disparity between the two.
I think Microsoft needs to update the driver, to strengthen the radio (probably set rather weak to conserve battery).
Connection is awesome on my Mozart, both for voice and data. I get stable HSDPA with good speeds at home where the iPhone (bad benchmark, but still) only got Edge, and HD2 constantly switches from 3G to GSM. I talk easily in my office elevator where even most dumbphones fail.
Guess it depends on many factors including the combination of device and operator. Generally, coverage here is better than in most places in the US, judging by my personal (although limited) experience and what I'm reading in tech blogs.
Been having problems with my Omnia7 since beginning of the year and was hoping Mango with firmware would fix these issues.
This is how it turned out after update...
I can't upload anything to SkyDrive on 3G (I get "The Windows Live ID Service is unavailable at the moment"), if I turn on WiFi it works instantly so there is nothing wrong with my account.
I usually can't download apps from marketplace on 3G, i get "The Windows Live ID Service is unavailable at the moment", if I turn on WiFi it works instantly.
I usually can't post twitts to twitter, I get some connection error. Not sure if that works over WiFi.
I usually cant do statusupdates to the Windows Live feed, I get some connection error. Not sure if that works over WiFi.
Bing search usually doesnt work on 3G. "We cant connect to search at the moment" if I turn on WiFi it works instantly.
When I say usually, thats like 60-90% of the time maybe?
Some of these things actually worked better before the update.
I chat with more people from Sweden with Omnia 7 that are having exact same problems.
(We are also the same people thats been having serious call problems with dropped calls, robot voices and bad call quality. (We have a thread soon reaching 700 posts about that on Swedish Telia forum, started in february, thats how long we have been at it with this on our provider and Samsung, and still not fixed))
Samsung Omnia 7 is really unusable on some networks and by the looks of things Samsung doesnt know how to fix it.
Im just so damn sick of this ****.
It would be nice if Mods didnt move this thread so we can see if any other OEM have any similar problems, thank you.
I'm using an Omnia 7 in Singapore and have not faced the problems you mentioned. You may want to try Samsung's Network Profile tool and reselect your carrier to reset 3G settings.
Yes the Omnia 7 works just great on some networks, if we switch to Three the problems pretty much goes away. This would indicate that there is something wrong with Telia but they have also tested everything and there is no other phone having these problems.
Believe me we have tried everything, we have had our devices at Samsung Service Centers and they have installed "special" firmwares for us etc but nothing solves the issues.
No problems with my Omnia 7 in Australia. It does sound like a carrier issue, honestly. Does internet browsing using 3G work?
There is no point in saying you dont have the problems, we know there are lots of happy Omnia 7 users out there.
But the fact remains the phone doesnt work on some networks.
Here is the old list (taken from the Omnia7-forum) of carriers where users have reported the same issues.
A1 Telekom - Austria
Proximus - Belgium
Mobistar - Belgium
Base - Belgium
Singtel - Singapore
T-mobile - Netherlands
Virgin Mobile - France
Bouygues - France
T-mobile - Germany
T-Mobile - US
Vodafone - Italy
Telenor - Norway
ERA - Poland
Simobil - Slovenia
Keep in mind the list is 6 months old so things might have changed in some places...
It would be interesting to know if VoodooKing is on Singtel?
Change to different carrier? If Telia sucks so bad wouldn't it be logical to change to something else?

Its my employer that uses Telia, I cant change it.
And its not Telia that sucks, telia has the best coverage in Sweden bar none, so its Samsung that sucks and as soon as Nokia delivers and my employer gives me green light to get a new phone this piece of **** goes straight into the wall.
it sucks to hear that your omnia 7 is experiencing these terrible bugs
mine's working perfectly though. omnia 7, not branded, philippines
Mine has the problem of not getting a data connection when I turn it on/off.
I have to end up turning the entire phone off, then back on with data on. That's the only way it'll work 100% of the time.
It does however work at times, but very rarely.
There is a rumour going that Samsung will release a fix for these issues in October.
I'l believe it when I see it though, seeing that we have been complaining to them since february. But maybe the Mango release has given them new energy or whatever?
Crossing fingers here.
I'm having the exact same issues with my Omnia 7 since switching to Telia from Three a few weeks ago.
This might sound absurd and in wrong thread but...
I seem to face same issues with HTC Titan on Giffgaff (uses O2 in the UK).
Could it be the way OS is laid on phones?
I have an omnia7 and a hd7

I have the same devices but I don´t have any problems with T-Mobile Germany.
BTW I thought you have sent your HD7 to our all Heathcliff74 ?
Some weeks ago I offered him to send my HD7 via mail too but he didn´t accept my offer because of the risk that the device could get broken for some reasons.
Same issues here, TMobile NL.
Problems keeping/establishing WiFi connection and problems keeping 3G connection. Sometimes have to reset to make it work or airplane mode on/off otherwise full 3g+ bars but no Internet...
Here in holland the 3g coverage is nearly perfect (delft/den haag) and I barely have death spots. Mago improved it, but did not fix it. After a while the device just gets cut off the network. And wifi disables when locked, when unlocking it struggles to reestablish.
The only problem I'm facing is that sometimes sound disappears during phonecalls while the connection
is still in place. I'm on vodafone nl, but this problem is a well known problem with the omnia 7. I used to
have HTC trophy and never experienced this problem. For me this was the last Samsung phone, as with the
last Samsung phones/tabs I had, I experienced nothing but problems and s##t support.

you might want to consider using the diagnosis app to set your connection to a particular band
*#2263# under the diagnosis application will bring up the band selection menu
I used to have the problem of the phone always taking a longer time to get data connection mode. But that was fixed after just a simple move of limiting what the bands the phone would search for to have data connection.

Thanks for this, but Im not able to select 900/1800/2100 which is what I need since our 3g is on 2100 (Netherlands) so if I select 900/1800 ill lose 3g... which is not worth it of course
Have a pixel 2 xl unlocked from the Google store, pulled my VZW prepaid sim card from a 3 year old htc one m9 and popped it in. The pixel's connectivity is very sporadic with data connection speed, going all the way to 15-50kb download and upload speed sometimes this is on the VZW network, not WiFi. Sitting in the same spot with a 3 year old htc, the network runs about 30mb down and fluctuates around 10mb up.
Is anyone else having this problem? It makes no sense to me. Wasn't sure if maybe a new sim card is in order, but it does sometimes get up to 30mb max, but seems to run slow most of the time.

Same here. It's far worse than p1xl
Same here, it's one issue after another. This device is riddled with issues but I am not going to RMA, I am going to wait for the first update and see what comes of it. Here's to hoping Google gets their ish together.
Ironically my wifes smaller pixel 2 is much faster internet and gets much better reception. She can watch full HD video while I have absolutely no service in the mountains. We are both on Tmobile. Makes no sense.

Ill try that.
Maybe it's a bug in the modem baseband? Is it present on those running 8.1 dp1? I see this randomly on mine as well using 8.0.
Add the IMEI to the VZW BYOD site. Might be a registration issue.
I have project fi just switch from Sprint even tho they use Sprint network and t mobile. I installed fi switch to change to t mobile to test speeds. Sprint had more signal but I was only getting about 3Mbs. T mobile with less signal 12Mbs. Both were on LTE.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
My network speed is good. I use to have trouble getting reception with a s8+. My pixel xl2 has no problems and I never have a loss or slow speeds.
Wanted to throw an update out here - I got back in town today and popped in at the VZW store. They gave me a new SIM card and reset everything on the account. No changes. Then the guy told me where I work gets a hefty discount on phone plans, and the 5gb plan on contract was actually cheaper than the 3gb prepaid plan I have had for the past 3ish years. I switched to a regular subscription account and magically my bandwidth peaks doubled, and it seems to be running steady.
I'm going back out of state in 48 hours and will see if the sporadic coverage issues have been resolved too. I really hope so, because that was going to kill the deal and I wanted to like this phone so much... If the connection is still dying out, I'm just going to go back to the 3 year old phone and wait for the U11+, begrudgingly.
I'm having some serious issues with D/L speeds on Sprint. I can have very good signal, sitting still, and so long as it is on LTE band 25 or 26, I might get 1 mbps down. Should I find myself in a spot where I'm connected to band 41, I get at least 10 mbps down. Tried a new sim card, factory reset, etc. Currently have a ticket "escalated" with Sprint support, but we'll see where that goes.
Part of this issue might be a result of leaving sprint and going to project fi, only to go back to sprint when they offered a $150 credit. Prior to those changes, I had consistent speeds over 10 mpbs regardless of the lte band. This is looking less like a phone issue, and more of a sprint issue, but regardless, it's getting kind of annoying.

Yeah, it's like the carriers themselves may be involved in this one.
Either way, I'm sending this piece of garbage back for a refund in a few days. This isn't even good quality for a $500 phone, much less a near $1,000 phone.
Verizon is even giving 50% off now for some phone trade ins, up from $300. Think this design will have to be completely redone again next year. They should've just went with the HTC.
