Have a pixel 2 xl unlocked from the Google store, pulled my VZW prepaid sim card from a 3 year old htc one m9 and popped it in. The pixel's connectivity is very sporadic with data connection speed, going all the way to 15-50kb download and upload speed sometimes this is on the VZW network, not WiFi. Sitting in the same spot with a 3 year old htc, the network runs about 30mb down and fluctuates around 10mb up.
Is anyone else having this problem? It makes no sense to me. Wasn't sure if maybe a new sim card is in order, but it does sometimes get up to 30mb max, but seems to run slow most of the time.

Same here, it's one issue after another. This device is riddled with issues but I am not going to RMA, I am going to wait for the first update and see what comes of it. Here's to hoping Google gets their ish together.
Ironically my wifes smaller pixel 2 is much faster internet and gets much better reception. She can watch full HD video while I have absolutely no service in the mountains. We are both on Tmobile. Makes no sense.

Maybe it's a bug in the modem baseband? Is it present on those running 8.1 dp1? I see this randomly on mine as well using 8.0.
Add the IMEI to the VZW BYOD site. Might be a registration issue.
I have project fi just switch from Sprint even tho they use Sprint network and t mobile. I installed fi switch to change to t mobile to test speeds. Sprint had more signal but I was only getting about 3Mbs. T mobile with less signal 12Mbs. Both were on LTE.

My network speed is good. I use to have trouble getting reception with a s8+. My pixel xl2 has no problems and I never have a loss or slow speeds.
Wanted to throw an update out here - I got back in town today and popped in at the VZW store. They gave me a new SIM card and reset everything on the account. No changes. Then the guy told me where I work gets a hefty discount on phone plans, and the 5gb plan on contract was actually cheaper than the 3gb prepaid plan I have had for the past 3ish years. I switched to a regular subscription account and magically my bandwidth peaks doubled, and it seems to be running steady.
I'm going back out of state in 48 hours and will see if the sporadic coverage issues have been resolved too. I really hope so, because that was going to kill the deal and I wanted to like this phone so much... If the connection is still dying out, I'm just going to go back to the 3 year old phone and wait for the U11+, begrudgingly.
I'm having some serious issues with D/L speeds on Sprint. I can have very good signal, sitting still, and so long as it is on LTE band 25 or 26, I might get 1 mbps down. Should I find myself in a spot where I'm connected to band 41, I get at least 10 mbps down. Tried a new sim card, factory reset, etc. Currently have a ticket "escalated" with Sprint support, but we'll see where that goes.
Part of this issue might be a result of leaving sprint and going to project fi, only to go back to sprint when they offered a $150 credit. Prior to those changes, I had consistent speeds over 10 mpbs regardless of the lte band. This is looking less like a phone issue, and more of a sprint issue, but regardless, it's getting kind of annoying.

Yeah, it's like the carriers themselves may be involved in this one.
Either way, I'm sending this piece of garbage back for a refund in a few days. This isn't even good quality for a $500 phone, much less a near $1,000 phone.
Verizon is even giving 50% off now for some phone trade ins, up from $300. Think this design will have to be completely redone again next year. They should've just went with the HTC.

I'd be very wary of signing a contract with T-Mobile right now. They are looking to get out of the US market as quickly as possible. If the rumors about selling contracts to Leap Wireless, or the DirecTV deal are true, I'm not sure I'd want to be under contract knowing that I might be stuck in limbo once the company decides their long term plans.
I just got off of them after being a customer since 2002 after the Voicestream buyout. It feels good!

Wrong, that was the Telus version that passed the FCC just like how the Bell Mobile passed the FCC a few weeks before that. There has yet to be a GNexus for GSM USA carriers that has even been hinted at with filings.

Well initially the GT-i9250T was hinted to come to ATT, so if this one is headed for Canada instead of ATT now then there ya have it. It's gonna be a while if ever.
as of right now there is no reason to expect a TMO USA launch anytime soon.

If your a tmo customer, your best bet is to just import the phone like most of us here did. it's a lot more money, but it's worth it.

The International version features pentaband. If the AT&T version is pentaband then yes it will work.

Exactly! TMO is actually a great company for customer service and for phone/data service, as long as you live in an area that they cover. I have to be honest, people keep bragging about LTE and all that. Who needs 40Mbps on their phone?? Unless you're tethering, 2Mbps suffices.
Now that TMO inherited a nice $4 billion cash bonus and spectrum from AT&T, we might see them continue to roll out even more bandwidth. They're already enabling 3G over the 1800mhz band, so iPhones are able to latch on in certain markets. They're not going anywhere...yet.
The $700 price I paid for this phone was well worth it. Keep in mind (because I did not know this) that you will only have a warranty through the company who bought it for you (Expansys, Negri, etc). Samsung will not give you a warranty.
I hope that tmobile does expand but I'm just not sure if it's worth paying 640 on negro electronics.. I will try to sell my vibrant for 200 but that is still 440 that I need to spend on this phone... Is it really worth it for a phone?

well, i live in one of their 42Mbps locations, and honestly, i get pissed that i walk into a tmo store and see them getting 25-30Mbps down and i can't get over 5Mbps.
and then theres the lack of 3G in my home unless i walk outside, and signal cutting out in the hockey stadium, but considering my family is paying about $50 less per month than if we were with another company, we put up with it.
i'm 99% sure my signal issues are due to my plan or some other bull**** though. gonna go to a store with my Gnex and switch sim cards with someone in the store and see what happens, because i know the nexus is capable of 21mbps down. so if they're getting 30 i should be getting around 15, not 1-5.

Florida is more flat so I assume you should be getting better speeds than me, especially if the phones in the store are reaching that high. It's most likely your SIM, as you said.
Even still, getting 2Mbps and paying much less for the data plus having the capability to tether for free (with or without root) is a huge plus. Comes in real handy when tethering.

oh yeah the tethering alone is enough of a reason to stay. me and my girlfriend go up to orlando a lot, and even though the hotels give you free internet, a lot of times it sucks, like 1Mbps or less (probably damn people torrenting lol) so i usually get around 3-5 up there so i toss on the wifi tether and we both have internet. her on her netbook and me on my transformer.
comes in handy at my school too when their crappy wifi kicks out lol.
I actually have changed my sim cards, and even had tech support take a look at our account and they said they fixed it. I'm getting better DL speeds on the GN than my N1 though so thats at least nice.

Just because your phone is HSPA+ (21Mb) ready, doesn't mean that you're gonna get 21Mb!!!!!!!!
keep in mind that HSPA is an advanced 3G network, depending on where you are,
and the connection to the closest tower etc., the numbers are gonna vary. I'm in NYC and around, I average 4-9 Mb, which realistically unless you're tethering to multiple devices, what more do you need??
Oh and I would love to see that 25-30Mb download, really........ That's usually what I get at home when connected to my FiOS router , of course that's Mb, not MB.. So when I hit 25-30 with FiOS, I realistically top off at 4Megs/Sec Download, which is effin fast........
The Galaxy S2 is the fastest device currently in the store, with its HSPA++ (42Mb) Radio, that device averages 5-13Mb, even when the Thunderbolt came out on Verizon being one of the first LTE if not the first LTE device, I ran tests in was hitting 12-19Mb, now, after millions more hopped on the network, it hardly breaks 10-12....
One more thing, even if you can pull 100Mb/Sec, I'f the server you're pulling from only allows 10Mb/Sec Upload, your 100Mb doesn't mean squat ..

first off, be nicer in the future, you see I've been here for a long time and have contributed a lot around the forums, that generally means i know what i'm talking about so you don't have to repeat the obvious and add all the exclamation points, it just makes you seem like a bit of a douche.
NOW. if you don't believe me i'll go back and take a damn picture. I saw two guys at a local t-mobile store one with an HTC Amaze and the other with a Galaxy S 2. The HTC Amaze hit 23Mbps download 7Mbps upload. the GS2 hit 33Mbps download, 10Mbps upload. these weren't results, they did it right in front of me and i watched the whole thing.
My Nexus One, which features a 7.1Mbps max chip, in the same store, in the exact same spot, got 1.5Mbps. i've yet to test my galaxy nexus in that store.
now obviously as you said, the amount of people on the network and location makes a difference. But when i see phones hitting 20+ and my 21Mbps capable device isn't getting over 1.5, there's an issue.
so far, best i've gotten on my GN is 5.5Mbps. which i'm perfectly happy with, i just want that all the time, not this 1.5mbps BS when i'm in a 42 area.

I'm not treating you like a dumb ass, I don't even know you....
I live in NY, and in MY experience with the THUNDERBOLT, I never seen it hit more that 20...I don't even hit more that 40Mb/Sec on my Fiber Optic Landline service, most times its 25-35, but realistically my download rate tops off at 3.5 megs....
So if a phone hits 75, that means a Netflix movie should be fully buffered in around 15-20 secs, damn that's impressive, I would love to see that, maybe then I'd change to Verizon and start paying $150/mo.
I do believe you bro, Iv'e seen posts here on XDA with people hitting upwards of 50, but I don't think that's the realistic speed that the device is getting during use.
I don't think the GN will ever come to carriers that have the GS2.
You might be right because I was watching about 2 months ago of an interview with samsungs ceo in the USA on cnbc and he said that verizon is the only one without a SGII so the galaxy nexus will be their own version of the SGII... I hope they still bring it to a carriers!
I have the S3 with Verizon but am thinking to maybe make the switch to the S4 on T-Mobile, and pay the Verizon etf (8 months into my contract)
While Verizon service has been excellent, the data costs have been getting a little to expensive for me, as sometimes I need to increase my data to 4 or 6gb from my normal of 2gb.
I was looking at the plans and I like getting unlimited everything for $50+$20=$70+$20 per month for 24 months for the S4, if I don't buy it outright.
Right now I'm paying approx. $125/mo. with 2GB data.
I'm also paying $35/mo. to Virgin for there bb2go Unlimited Data 4G Wimax service so I can tether my pc and S3.
Total cost comes to approx $160 now.
Compared to approx. $70 for Tmo service Unlimited.
Not sure of Tmo service in NYC and Florida.
I see that LTE will not fully be implemented until between the summer and the end of the year.
I don't want to get stuck with LTE promises like I did with Sprint LTE promises prior to switching to Verizon.
I'm in the middle of researching and wanted to get some real world feedback on Tmo service in the areas mentioned.
Also, before possibly porting to Tmo from Vz, I'd want to try out the service for the trial period, which means I'd need a new number, but if I liked Tmo, I would eventually want to port my present #. I gotta do some research on that one.

There is Tmobile LTE in NYC, parts of it have yet to be turned on. And I keep reading more and more parts of Florida are seeing better data performance.

The issue I have is that I don't want to fall into the same carrier promising bs of LTE like I did with sprint.
I'm not saying Tmo is like sprint re this.
I just don't know if the Tmo network is set up in a way that is vastly different than sprint, in that they'll be able to deliver the LTE network as promised.
With that being said, I'd settle for HSPA+ for now.

From my research thus far, it reappears that Tmo is not consistent.
With that being said, it is a shame that only the most expensive, monopolized carriers offer consistent services (Two Carriers to be specific, which is really pathetic)
I'll continue to research, because as long as I get consistent service both data and voice in the areas I'm mostly in, than I don't care about whether there is consistent service in the areas I'm not in.
I am pretty sure Tmobile's LTE rollout will be nothing like Sprint's. And even thought LTE isn't everywhere yet, Tmobile's hspa+ network still offers some pretty good data speeds

I just switched from Verizon to Tmo for the same reasons (among others). I live in Atlanta and service has been great. I'm actually driving down to south Florida tomorrow, so we'll see how well service is down there. With that said, it's going to greatly vary on your location. I would check out their coverage map as it seems to give a pretty good indication on what to expect from what I've seen. Its not like Verizon's where they just say if you have 3g/4g or not. T-mobile's actually tells you the quality of the signal.
As far as the LTE, I wouldn't worry about it. Their HSPA+ "4G" network are pretty decent in my tests, with download speeds averaging around 5mb/s. A lot of times it's higher than that, but I've never seen anything lower than 1.5mb/s, and that's with 1 bar of service. Again, this will vary based on your exact location. I can't wait for LTE to launch, but until then, I'm content.
As far as wanting to port over your number after the fact, they can do it when you're ready. When I ordered mine online, I didn't do the port then as it could be ported in transit. After I got the phone, I called them up and they had to first activate the phone along with a new number. Once that was fully activated, they processed the port request and that was done within seconds.

Regarding HSPA+, I'd be happy with those speeds until LTE comes online, as the S4 would be able to handle those bandwidths.
I didn't want to be in the same boat as when I had Sprint and the S3. The S3 was not backwards compatible with 4G Wimax, so if you were not in an LTE area, you were stuck with 3G. In addition, calls were dropping all day long. This was about 8 months ago, so maybe Sprint has their LTE available in more areas, although I was in a NYC sprint store 2 weeks ago, which had no LTE, and the S4 was connected to Wifi. The tech had no idea when lte would be available.
I mention Sprint because I don't want to be in the same boat if I port to T mobile. But it looks like Sprint and T mobile are comparing Apples & Pears, and I'll have a much better experience with T mobile re data, even though LTE is not available yet, HSPA+ is available in a majority of markets.
For clarification regarding delayed porting:
- I can try Tmo without porting, and just get issued a new number to try their service re coverage, data, dropped calls, etc.
- if Tmo doesn't work out, I can return the device within 14 days and pay a $50 return fee.
- if Tmo works out, I can ask Tmo to port over my Verizon number. If this is accurate, does Tmo just port over my existing Tmo number that I was given when I purchased Tmo service?
Obviously I would not port my Vz number to Tmo initially because I want to make sure I have acceptable service with Tmo before terminating the my Vz service and paying the etf, which would be $350 less $80

Yeah I wouldn't really compare Tmo to Sprint. I actually tried Sprint first and ended up returning everything a few days later. I've had 0 issues with Tmo though.
Your first 2 things regarding delayed porting are correct. I'm not sure I understand your last one though:

Once you port over your number from Verizon, the number that Tmo gave you will get deactivated and will just go back into their pool of numbers to get used again by another customer in the future. Your account at Verizon will automatically be terminated and you'll receive a bill with your ETF on it.
For clarification, I meant that after using the number Tmo assigned me and I decided to keep Tmo service, Tmo would port my Vz number over, and my originally assigned Tmo number world drop off my account.

When I worked at sprint in launch day in Dallas we thought it was going to have a good launch. Then to find out they put towers around Dallas not in the major parts. It was a horrible launch. I got tmobile before LTE was announced in Dallas. I just got LTE at my home near rockwall and im hitting 40Megs down and 15 up everytime. This is great because the only way to get Internet at my house is through a sloe satellite.

Sprint LTE roll out is the worst. T-Mobile was the last to roll out LTE and I get LTE now every where I go in California bay area (San Jose, Santa Clara, Cupertino, mountain view, Campbell, willow Glenn, Sunnyvale, even fremont and Hayward). I had sprint for 9 years and left them last year. They still haven't rolled out lte here. They were supposed to start March and should've had it up and running by now. My gf has s3 and she's still yet to see sprint lte anywhere.

It does look like Tmo is on the ball, and getting to where they wanna be.
A while ago it wasn't like that and that's why I was hesitant.
But if it works for me, I can save approx. $50-60 per month, and have HSPA+ and eventually LTE, but I may get LTE now. I gotta give the S4 a test run.
As I said before, I'm paying on average $130-135 with Vz for 4GB average (varies between 2-4gb, and sometimes 6gb) with TEP + $35 for Virgin bb2go for unlimited Wimax data.
I see that Asurion insurance with Tmo is $11+ compared to Vz Asurion plan for $6.99.

Just got the T-Mobile M919 S4. I didn't port from Verizon yet as I'm taking the S4 for a trial run, and so far I'm very impressed although it's only been a couple of hours.
Obviously the S4 is a premium device and I'm very happy with the brightness and crispness of the display. But I digress, as this thread is about Tmo.
I have gotten 4G LTE in the locations where I have been so far, and have done side by side speedtests with the S3 on Verizon, and so far the S4 has achieved equal and/or higher speeds in the 3 speedtests.
The dl/ul speeds have been:
Tmo - 16/10, 9/7, 14/8
Vz- 9/13, 5/8, 7/12
I know I'm comparing an S4 to an S3, and don't know if that makes a big difference regarding the speedtests. I was comparing the LTE networks
The speeds are not earth shattering, but what I am happy most about is that I'm getting nice 4G LTE speeds with Tmo, and it's Unlimited for $20/mo.
If things go nicely for the next few days, I'll port over from Verizon and save some nice money monthly, and have Unlimited LTE with speeds that will suffice for my needs. I'll be a very happy camper. I'll also save money by not having to pay Virgin for their Wimax Broadband2go service.
The ironic thing is that across the street from Tmo is Sprint, and their in store S4 is working off their in house wifi network, as LTE is not available yet.
For now, I'm paying the $7.49/mo for the insurance with $175 deductible.
I may switch to Square Trade if I keep the S4, but I'll decide later on.
I'm gonna Root and see how things go.

I was sitting at an intersection this morning near the airport in Palm Beach FL and noticed my phone said 4G LTE.... I did a speed test and WOW. 33mbs down and 17 up! I never got that with Verizon, even before it got congested. Things are looking good!

I saw the same when they were rolling out lte in my area and it didn't take long before it was completely on. I would say less than a month.

since I've had my gnex these are my favorite highlights of verizon service
1. LTE started at 25 megs it's now at 10
2. My unlimited contract is technically still valid but for some reason I can barely ever break 4gb since they stopped offering it
3. Following my internet service Verizon now pre compresses data like pictures sent to my phone = crappy resolutions
4. 2 years after the launch of LTE the service area has steadily declined
5. Google voice magically stopped working on the first day of last months billing period = 140 extra dollar bill they wont discount
6. They dont improve the signal they rewrite the software to display more bars
7. When you go to the speed test app magically your phone is faster, something Samsung was recently caught doing
8. This month our 17% employee discount mysteriously needs to be renewed - they forgot to notify us - last time we went for 11 months without it. And we can't do it online.
9. My phone has problems charging but they claim the internet is lies about it being a charging port issue even though I can wiggle it fixed in front of them.
10. bloatware
11. Mysterious connection delays that they say is "solved" by purchasing a new phone
I know I have some more, the point being that before you go out and get a Verizon phone because it's supposed to the best service, look around and make sure it still is.
In my area Wyoming. Verizon really screwed up and sold alltel to at&t. Verizon used to piggy back on alltel towers and alltel was the main cell provider. At&t is now turning off the old alltel service on the towers and making them gsm only. Seems like my service gets worse monthly now and some areas like where I work have quit completely but att that was non existent before is full bars on my work phone. If it wasn't for their better costumer service and having unlimited data I would be done. They day they say no more unlimited data I say goodbye. Probably go back to dumb phone as I can't afford a 12gb data plan.

Not that I'm terribly happy with Verizon, but I'm not sure what you mean by some of these?
1. Probably congestion with all the 4g phones.
2. How can you not get more than 4gb? Does your service stop?
3. How would this do this without extra local software?
4. 4g service is pretty extensive in my area, but it's no bigger than their 3g was and att now has much better coverage.
5. How would you suddenly be charged if Google voice stops working?
9. Likely crud in your micro use port. Sharpen a toothpick to get it out. I've had this from time to time.

That's really odd. I will say that i've noticed a tad bit of slowdown in general on their LTE network but i would attribute that to the great increase of traffic compared to what it was when the Nexus originally came out.
I just broke 8 gigs of data usage this month, not sure why you are having problems. Do you have insurance on your phone?
I disagree with everything you're saying, OP.
The next town over, to this day, I get around 40 Mbps down consistently, and last month I used 17 GB.
Speeds and coverage depend on the phone of course, like the Droid RAZR M RIGHT NEXT TO MY GALAXY NEXUS was getting around 2x the download speeds.

I just wanted to update my previous post about the service Wyoming. They actually are putting up towers and 4g in the middle of nowhere that was previously lost when they sold to att. So my service is actually getting better now. I have service now where I need it.

I don't know how to address all of your points, because I'm pretty sure some of them aren't problems with Verizon's network, but I can say that network speed was absolutely destined to decrease after the boom of LTE phones.
It's happened with every network after they hit a critical mass of LTE devices.
Network congestion is a serious problem that isn't easily solved. Throwing more towers at it can help mitigate the issue, but much of the problem boils down to limited spectrum- the same reason why populated wifi connections are unusable. It doesn't have to do with the routers being bottlenecked, it's simply the spectrum being overcrowded.

No its not because I have a galaxy s4 on Verizon my girl has AT&T with a iPhone 5 and AT&T 3g/hspa is faster than Verizon's 4g/LTE/3g

Same thing happened to me. My 4G is now almost non-existent at my house. Used to get 20mbs down. I still broke 80gbs last month (sick and staying at home) but speeds are a fraction of what it used to be.
I opened a T-Mobile line to test out their service in my area (LA/OC) and its pretty awesome. Dead spot here and there but nothing I didn't experience on Verizon either. Also wanted to test how true their unlimited data is. Its been 3 days and pushing 8 gigs. I bypassed the tether block as well. Looking good so far but still got 20 more days to go.
Also picked up an S4 with T-Mobile. Really blows my Gnex to shame. Tethering and charging doesnt turn my phone into a brick of fire. Its been a few hours and the phone is still very cool. Battery even lasts 2-3x longer than the Gnex even while tethering vs Gnex being idle. Its crazy.

Agreed, this is a common occurrence. LTE has a theoretical max of what, 100mbps? So eventually it *should* surpass HSPA+/HSDPA.

In context of the O.P's comment he is right. Within Verizons network if you update to a new device it will have better optimized software and radios compared to an older device that Verizon refuses to allow an update for.

So after attempting to complete the Google Wallet fix for the galaxy s4 on T Mobile I ran into an issue where my 4G speeds and LTE speeds were much much lower than normal, somewhere in the range of 10 percent of normal. After attempting to remedy this every way possible short of flashing back to pure stock, including restoring modified rooted stock, I called customer care and was very surprised to find that the representative informed me that a mere 2mbit (2000kbps) classified as 4G LTE speeds to them.
Yeah you read that correctly; You will receive little to no support provided your connection is as fast as the average speed on Sprint's dilapidated and failing 3G network. I love T-Mobile for many reasons but this is just shocking. I did not spend 600 after taxes on a device capable of such insane speeds that it's faster than about 80 of American high speed Internet access, and 120 a month on a family plan with unlimited data, to be told that going backwards a decade in connection speed is "current generation".
I advise you call a rep today and confirm this, then email the ceo with me and let him know that this is not acceptable. Should he be serious about turning T-Mobile around, then he needs to cut the subscription to the typical carrier bs that helped me drive my friends away from sprint and att (crap service and speeds in our area) and into the welcoming service of T-Mobile.
Update: I had to ODIN pure stock to get my data speeds back.

Were you able to get Google Wallet working again with Root after using Odin to get your speeds back to normal? I'm about to get a GS4 on Friday and ideally want to have Google Wallet, Root, Tethering and LTE working. Just wondering what might not work and will... Thanks!
It may just be my device or rom but I find that the connection justs seems to hangup for lack of a better word. I have a meter showing my data usage in kb/s and if I hit the go button for a webpage it seems to do nothing and not use any data.

Take everything the rep says with a grain of salt, they often just say things because they aren't exactly sure. This, unfortunately causes confusion and people hearing different things. I get around 25-35 Mbps in my area and some people get even more.

T-Mobile isn't responsible for any modifications you make to your own device. You made the mistake of implementing the fix, so deal with the consequences. It's really that simple. :good:
That's why they use the term "up to." Not every single person will receive 20+ mbps. It also depends on the amount of towers, the distance of those towers and how many people are connected to them.

Also wish to comment that T-Mobile is VERY helpful when it comes to getting me better speeds. I was getting approx 100 kB/s download at my house which gets 4G HSPA and i called and complained. And they said that for 4G those speeds are horrible and sent a technition out to see what the issue was. The following day THEY called me back and explained there was some technical issues with the tower in my area. I think it had to do with the routing of the packets. But anyhow, they were extremely helpful with everything and now my speeds are back to 250 kB/s average And when i am at school, i get LTE my speeds there are NEVER below 1 MB/sand on good days sky rocket to 2 MB/s (advertised speeds) and sometimes even faster. I have already hit 3 MB/s it really depends on what towle said. Users on the network, what they are doing what you are doing etc etc.

I understand this entirely, however, I was less than a quarter mile from a tower sitting at home getting ~5000kbps, when normally I get 20000+. I also had slow speeds between 3 towers that I know carry T-Mo service and it never once got better until I ODIN flashed the stock ROM again.

You're measuring in Bytes, I'm measuring in bits, there's 8 bits to every Byte, and when you get 250kB x 8 = 2000kbps or 2mbit, the speed the T-Mo rep quoted me as what they expect you to get. When you were getting 2MB/sec, you're getting 16000kbps, which is normal for HSPA+ and decent T-Mo LTE.
Either way, I got it fixed, however their low-end expectations are very disheartening. I just wanted to bring it to everyone's attention that if you're getting more than 2000kbps (250kB/sec), don't bother calling T-Mo, they won't help you in regards to speeds, even if you're parked right under a tower that practically nobody else is on.
For the record, I consider this "decent LTE"
I just got LTE in my area and in getting 10 Mbps, about a mile away I was getting 20 Mbps.
Not too bad for a city that didn't have LTE when the i9500 1st dropped. I ditched the int'l version for the M919 and have no regrets !
I am having data problems as well.
I was getting awesome LTE speeds after the roll out here in the Dallas area. Went on vacation to the US Virgin islands in late June and upon returning, my speeds plunged to as low as 200 Mkbps where I was getting awesome speeds as high as 15000 mbps (as per speedtest) before this.
I'm not one to go only by test numbers or what the graph says. But I am experiencing real world page lags, drops, pages hanging up, no service notices and regularly seeing the Edge symbol.
As the OP says, I am getting lots of help from Tmo, even exchanging the S4 for a new one. (had to fight to get a surprise 150. fee rescinded after they claimed my pristine unit had a broken screen, but that is a different post)
But the problem has persisted. They have reset my account several times and are in the process of resetting it now. Said wait 72 hours and it will be fixed. Said should be fixed by weds. I remain skeptical, they said that once already....so much so that I bought a Experia Z Sat. (jury is still out on that)
The girl at tech support suggested I wait on replacing it but I've simply had enough of this.
I am convinced that it is on Tmos end.
And I can definitely confirm the gist of this post. Everyone I have talked to, literally a dozen people, have had the balls to tell me that Tmo considers 2000 a good LTE speed. I call BS.
I reall like my S4 a lot and don't like that the Z has a nonremovable battery. My wish is to keep the S4.
I've not had a chance to do much with this X, so can't yet compare performance.

You must be in love with Sprint to believe that 2 Mbps is sprints 3G. Sprints 4G Wimax barely...BARELY hits 3 Mbps. Sprint 3g is equal to T-Mobile 2G. I did a test in the Bay Area, California, and tmobile beat att and verizon, at 32 mbps and att was at 24 mbps while verizon only hit 8 mbps. All with 3 bars of lte.
I have been noticing that the internet speed has been dropping lately, and I believe its because of the purchasing of metro, along with them ALL wanting iPhone and lte. So people that have trouble paying their bills (ive seen the average customers, I know what they look like. Theres a few that are just like you and me, but most show off their lower class status with their huawei and zte phones.) So its Metros fault for selling out. I noticed that my internet on an att unlocked iphone 5 has been dropping and lagging the past few days, and switching to a gs4 shows that its the carrier, or my account. So, I doubt your phone is the problem.

I used to be one of those "lower class status" users, I had a stupid little Huawei Ascend on cricKet (MetroPCS partner), and while I rooted and modded it to hell, the service sucked. I migrated to AT&T and found they weren't much better, then moved back to my old carrier, T-Mo and have been happy overall. I know that after the purchase of MetroPCS, that cricKet would be the partner of T-Mo out here and all those phones (more people in the area that I -lived- in the same area as me (not out of town college kids in for the semester) have cricKet) would be bogging the network down, but it still performed well enough. In the thick of the cricKet area called Mesa, AZ, I still got over 20mbit on HSPA+ and LTE. I knew as soon as they announced all the high end phones prior to the purchase of MetroPCS for both they and cricKet that they wouldn't have the network to support it, then T-Mo purchase happened, I knew I would suffer in areas where everyone and their dog has these phones. I also know their model of pre-pay month to month was highly abused out here so I expect that bandwidth is gonna be extremely limited at times, but dropping from 24mbps normally to 2mbps is 1/12th, ridiculous. Anyways, it's back to normal, I just try to stay as far away from towers with large groups of idiots on them which is kind of hard to do around here.
EDIT: My dad has Sprint (I tried to steer him far far away from that BS but he wouldn't budge), he gets like 2-5mbps on his Note 2 which doesn't get WiMax AFAIK, only 3G, it's ready for the 4G/LTE but Sprint has lied for 4 years straight about LTE deployment out here, I'm just waiting for him to get fed up with unsent messages and dropped calls enough to give up and jump ship finally, however that won't be until he finishes his new 2-year contract like a fool.

No, i have not taken the update. Doea the update wipe everything out? Im looking to kee0 things as they are but get the newer radio files due to spotty lte in a sprk covered area.

I have NK2 on my phone and it did nothing to improve my .5 to 1Mbs LTE in a SPARK area. So not real sure this is even worth your effort.

Having issues at work. I get the 40+ Mbit B41, its just that for some reason it wants to kick over to 3G fairly often. I have to do a few PRL updates to get back on it. I understand the B41 tower is a little ways away but i know from owning the note 2 that they have the slower B25 in the area too as i used to get it all the time with out issue and my note 4 never seems to connect to it, only B41.
Sprint said they are going to monitor me and my area and send me an update in a few days. They also suggested i take the new update but i dont really dont want start over right now so trying just the radio.

Many including myself are having low LTE speeds. I have been going back and fourth with Sprint for three weeks now and am on my second Note 4 with the same issue.
I got elevated to a Senior Tech and he said that Samsung has said there is an issue with some N4's and Sprints LTE according to a log only he and those at his level has access to. He advised having Samsung reflash it. So I took it to a lcal repair facility after getting a service ticket from Samsung which also took a week of phone calls back and fourth. They reflashed it today and it still has the same problem. Near their facility I got 25Mbs.
At home however I only get .5 to 1Mbs and according to their coverage map aI am in SPARK heaven.
It's not your phone, it's Sprint. I've been dealing with the exact same thing for years. They keep sauing they're working on the network but I've seen faster data speeds on disposable prepaid flip phones. Your data speeds will depend on the tower you're connected to. I don't know what's taking so long for Sprint to get their network coverage and dats speeds consistent throughout a region but it hasn't happened yet from my experience. I get around 1mb download and anywhere from 250kbps to 500is on uploads. The speeds on LTE at my house aren't great but in other parts of town it works a lot better. I assume Sprint doesn't consider certain areas a "priority" on their upgrade list. So you can stop thinking it's your phone because I doubt very seriously that's the problem, I used to think the exact same thing and went through several device swaps with the same results. Sprint will give you the runaround and point the finger at anything and everything as well as claim they are working on the towers/network. Well they've been working on the towers around here since they introduced WiMax and the HTC EVO. Yes I've seen big improvements with data speeds and coverage but after this much time I expected a lot better data speeds. Like I said, Sprint doesn't consider some areas a priority and they don't do much to improve or upgrade in those places because it's not lucritive or cost effective due to the customer base in that given area. Now other places where you would expect very good service but only see 3G speeds on LTE, there's just no excuse for that because Sprint has had a LOT of time to get the network up to par with the likes of T-Mobile etc. It is what it is.

I follow S4GRU and they also indicate it is the towers that choose, which is frustrating esp. when it seemingly kicks to 3g as soon as i start streaming a video.
My issue is not data speeds (even B25 gives me upwards of 8Mbit which is pleanty for video streaming), its staying connected to LTE.
I at least want to have the new radios installed so i can tell them i have NK2. I want to follow their procees through and if i still have the problem staying connected to LTE then i want a monthly discount untill its fixed (which theyve given before when i was getting no 4G at all in my area.
I went to Sprint in 2010 for the EVO and the WiMax that was up in my area, but its been a long painful rollout of the LTE. The reasin I stay is the old unlimited everything plan i still have.

I get the same damn thing, start streaming video on lte and then the note 4 drops to 3g, streaming is unusable at that speed. My s4 streamed perfectly fine and locked lte in the exact same areas. All the excellent real estate and I can't use it except on the wifi I pay for. I have old plan that has unlimited data and I'm not using it, note 4... Out
