last quest i saw that there is roms that say FF18 FE22 WHAT DOES ALL OF THEM MEAN WHICH ROMS DO U USE
I SED TO USE ALL CALKULINS ROMS BUR A LITTLE CONFUESED WITH THE DIFF LETTERS NOW
ROM ] Calkulin's E4GT 2 v1.6 [ ICS l FE22 l Tweaked l Battery Saver Script
Yes you can do the one click with no issues. As far as the ICS issues, what are you referring to? Been running M'ICS for two weeks and no issues other than the visual issue with long press home to clear running apps.
El29 came after eg30. EL29 is the official GB update. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
All in all, I'm loving ICS. The stock kernel/android recovery has the potential to possibly brick your phone. But they have safe kernels out now. Its all up to you on what you want to do. Just make sure you enjoy your phone.

Wrong one click. Look for sfhub's el29 rooted one click. You wont need to be in recovery for one click, but download mode instead. Need to hold vol down + power. Press up when prompted. Open oneclick on computer, plug in usb, hit start on odin, voila. Back to el29.

The one click FF18 is the ICS build. If you want GB you need EL29. Wipe cache doesn't unroot. There is a process to unroot or Odin el29 no root. The no data means it won't wipe your data. Be careful it can cause issues. Use a back up app to save your current apps.
In the sticky for this section there is a wiki on rom/kernels/modems. Click on roms. It has the link for el29 full or no data.

FF18! FF02! FE21, FE16, FE14, FE10, FE07, FD24, EL29, EL26, EG30, EK02
those are leaked builds of ICS. From after el29 GB to before FF18 ICS. To back up apps use titanium back up or my back up pro (in the market) OTA = over the air. if you want try another ICS rom. Most are stable. Just one click back to el29 and flash new ICS from there. I trust the devs here. They produce quality work. for you flash agats63 kernel with safe recovery. Then from there you can try the best ICS rom for what you want/need.

dude I'm not trying to be rude but I've seen two of your threads now and you reallly should spend some time reading before messing around with this phone as there is the potential to brick. I have a thread called welcome to the e4gt stickied in general, you may want to start there as it address a lot of the things you've been asking about. Sfhubs posts about his Odin one clicks will also clear a lot up... should you have more questions use the "search this forum" option to look for what it is you need help with, chances are there's already a thread about it..... lastly I wouldn't avoid ff18 just because someone anecdotally told you there are issues with it, with exception of a few very post happy negitive nancys around here the vast majority of us who have been using ff18 or ff18 based builds since the leak well over a month ago have not had issues with it

I flashed this rom and kept my EL29 kernel. Does that mean in order to get this Rom and get my CWM recovery back I have to reset my phone to stock and start all over again with the EL26? Also, is the swype keyboard in the rapps, and how do i get the face unlock to work?
When you flashed Frankenstein rom, your kernel changed to the FE21 kernel included with the rom so not sure what you mean by you kept el29 kernel since that's not compatible with ICS. The reason you have stock android recovery now is because of all the bricking issues performing certain functions in custom ICS recovery so devs are leaving out custom recovery from their roms. So yes, when you want to change roms, backup, etc., you must go back to the el26 cwm kernel first and flash, backup, etc. from there. Not sure about your last two questions since I'm not using that rom. Let me know if you need anything else.

Not to sure what you mean by that. If you're saying what I think you're saying, yes you must use el26 cwm kernel whenever flashing anything ICS related or backing up or restoring. Using anything else and you risk bricking your phone.

Slick_rick is correct, as far as Swype i just sign up for the Swype beta from you phone browser to get a download for it, that way i always have it to restore with titanium so i can get Swype on any rom. There's also some Swype keyboards floating around in the app section but i haven't tried them. They should work though.

Wow... I needed this thread. I just recently went through what I thought were all the instructions to flash this rom. I had previously used the PD Odin executable routine to upgrade from Gingerbread to ICS. I saw the reviews on this rom and really liked what I saw. I used Odin 1.85 to set up CWM-El26 so I could flash this ROM. I got everything working ( I do get that yellow triangle on reboots) but I did notice the CWMod Recovery does not stay on the phone. It reverts back to the basic ICS Recovery (where I GUESS you cannot flash zip files). Now all this said... After flashing this ROM, I am still on FE16. Is there something else I am missing.
I got into rooting when I had my Dinosaur Moment, and now I have that itch again. Thanks again for all your help!

Swype is in the removed apps. You have to Unknown Sources checked under device administration. You can mount your phone, add the swype.apk file to the phone, and install it using the astro file manager. I still go back and forth between swype and the stock ICS keyboard. Word prediction seems to work better in the stock.

Oh well your cwm recovery disappeared because it wasnt packed into the kernel that came with the rom you flashed. And you can get rid of the yellow triangle using a USB jig or an app called triangle away. Just Google search something like "triangle away apk+chainfire+xda" and you should be able to find it.

so i tried to redo this flash with the el26 kernel. but then my phone started acting crazy, telling me that the calendar storage stopped working. finally after putting frankenstein back on my phone, it stopped coming up. the only problem im experiencing now is that i cant download pics in my text messaging. but i can use my 3g, 4g, and wifi for everything else. I dunno if this is because im in PR or because i messed something up. Please give me some feedback if you know anything
You started up with el26? That will never work with this rom. You need an ics kernel.

i know. but when you flash the rom it changes to ics. im saying, initially i started with the el29. QBkind77 advises to flash it after having the el26 installed, but i was too hasty.
Hmmh...i only ever do el26 never el29. I'm not sure what happened then. You are correct if you flashed the ROM it is ics. It must have been a bad flash or a bad download as well, sorry.

I'm on Blu Kuban and I am on EL29 QB King 77 said I don't really need to switch Modems?? Is that corret? One XDA member said he uses FE 22 with out issue. I am using the ICS Blu Cuban rom.
I have model SPH-D710.
I followed the guide here.
I had no problems whatsoever until the final reboot. Now my phone's stuck at the 2nd loading animation... the one with the android on the skateboard in the middle of the screen with the blue things coming at you.
I can boot into Odin mode. I cannot, however, boot into recovery mode.
Is there anything I can do? Did I totally screw up my phone to where I'm going to just have to buy a new one and cry about it because my dad would have killed me for voiding my warranty on "such an expensive phone?"

Go to recovery
Wipe everything
THen install cm9

Don't think it was mentioned but Alpha 5 does not have recovery, this was done to prevent people from doing stupid things like factory resetting or installing roms.
The nightly builds have a safe recovery as well as themselves safe to flash on ICS recoveries if you need to head that direction next. But a replacement for Alpha 5 will be out in eventuality with all that as well.
I got it to work after I flashed back to GB and then back to alpha 5.
No idea what went wrong before, but it works now!
You probably flashed from an ics recovery

You can use the EL26 kernel on EL29 some people flash just the EL26 kernel for recovery, other people odin to EL29 and use the auto rooter to flash the EL26 CWM or EL29 Rogue kernel. Last i checked the CM9 brick from flashing with Rogue is a simple soft brick easily fixed with odin.

My friend you may have a little homework to do. Things have improved greatly for us in reference to flashing roms with certain recoveries and kernels for ICS. I for one use the nightlys for CM9 and flashing roms and wiping has been fixed.
Do yourself a favor and stroll through development and read up on the new stuff that has come about over the last couple weeks or so.
Enjoy guys and OP glad you got your phone back up and running. Next time don't panic!

QUERY UPDATED AS ON 15th August
hey , just got it
its on El29 GB ,
i have been reading a lot in here offlate and have noticed that by and large people are not That happy with ICS update by sprint ( i may be wrong here , so gimme the benefit of the doubt ) , so i have decide do stick with GB for now till i am well versed with all things ET4G at this forum.
UPDATE 1: 14th august : i have just just rooted the device and installed the Rogue CWM recovery so now i am practically ready to make a plunge.
UPDATE 2 : Ok as i have been a flashing freak, i just couldnt resist trying the ics , so now as on 15th august i am on ics stock rooted , but NO cwm , so plz suggest in light of this development )
here are my updated queries as on 15-08-12 after i have flashed ics rooted from sfhub.
0.. IS ICS UPDATE really that bad ? - well i guess i ll have to see that all myself
1.. which sprint apps are fine to be removed from stock ics rooted if i wanna debloat it m,yself.
2.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
does this method to install FF18 cwm agat recovery holds good ? will it save me from brocking in case i wanna wipe dada within recovery or using privacy on phone ?
3.. is it true that every recovery thats available here at epic touch forums have kernels associated within them , coz on i500 we have radio, recovery and kernels totally separate
4.. I am thinking of sticking to stock GB rooted or stock ICS rooted for a few days , are there any battery saving enhancements available respectively for GB and ICS.
or ultimately i ll have to move to a custom ICS or custom GB ?
if yes plz link me .
MY major requirement is a properly functioning phone, with hotspot active , as well as usb tethering active + better battery life ( too much is it ;P ?? )
I was using fascinate before so ODIN , TARS . CWM , nandroid and stuff arent new to me ,
but ET4G seems a bit different , thats why buggin you all with such a long list of queries.
Thanks in Advance.
btw , can anyone link me to a cheap yet okish TPU for a white ET4G.
would appreciate some help here guyz

0) Bottom line, the phone runs better on GB and you will get about half of the battery life on ics that you got on GB.
1) Download the tar of whatever rom you want and flash it with odin
2) Chris' cwm5 is the most stable, just be sure to flash the right one (tw or aosp)
3) No, sfhubs one click rooted EL29 and ff18 both come with their respective stock GB and I ics kernels
4) Start with stock ics (ff18) for at least a week so you have a baseline of how a stock version of the phone should perform. That way you can accurately judge the stability and functionality of whichever custom rom you choose.

btw with what i understood
the v3 can be flashed via a custom recovery only ( couldnt find no reference to any in there )
, can u point me to a recovery plz and can you tell me how to flash it.
the other steps that i understood are
2.. flash the
Calkulin's_FORMAT_ALL_for_E4GT.zip first , then flash the ROM
and in the last flash the Bare_Rom_Converter Zip - is that right ?
EDIT : please suggest in the light of the fact that I am now rooted and cwm recovery is installed on my phone.

Ok so once rooted,
Go here - Auto root your existing stock ROM (w/o ODIN/ROM Flash) and follow step by step. You want to select EL26 + CWM bootimage
Do you want calk's gb or ics rom?
You do not need the bare rom convertor because it may remove apps that you would like to keep.

You should just stay stock for a little while and lurk in the foru until you get a little more familiar with this phone and its quirks. Unlike most phones, it is possible to brick this one permanently if you mess up. Anything with an f is ics (fe13, ff18, etc). Anything with an e is gb (ek02, el13,el29, etc). As long as you are on gb, you are free to use any kernel you want. But if you decide to move back up to ics, you should use chris41g el26 repack kernel. Once on ics, you can use chris41g or agats kernel, although I have found Chris' to be less buggy.

at this point i have no intention of switching to ICS
I can stay within GB's realm
but just wanted a cwm recovery for better usability of the phone.
so which one should it be
acs 5 from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370429
or EL26 with cwm
If you are staying on stock el29 then el29 rogue is fine.

FWIW, GB development is pretty much dead here. If you want a ROM that will be updated ics is the way to go.
Reboots usually about 10+ times a day. During calls etc. Any way to remedy this?
Note: it doesn't restart from the very beginning it freezes, goes black then boots up the lock screen all media connects are restarted etc.
From the limited amount of research I've done the zedomax method for rooted is no longer used? (Currently I get the yellow exclamation point at reboot).
What do I need to do (in lame mans terms) to get my phone back to normal?
TIA!
Easiest way is to one click Odin. I'm not sure which your on. I'm assuming GB. So you can one click Odin to stock el29+ root. Or if you want one click Odin to FF18 or FH13 to upgrade to ICS. And if your on ICS you can use triangle away to get rid of yellow triangle on the splash screen.

If ur on the GB ROM look at the op for calks page and he has a mention and zips to flash to fix that. Scripts more or less to undervolt it

Using ZedoMax kernel is your problem from the get go. Even Zedomax would have a good laugh at that. Its an OLD OLD kernel.
EG30 and EK02 can be rooted via usb with the zerg exploit and sfhubs auto root made that easy. Easiest way with EL29 or the newer ICS firmwares as well is just to flash a prerooted one click. But you can always odin a kernel with custom recovery and flash super user.

Yeah, Zedomax is quite a flashback. I'm actually slightly impressed OP was even able to find the kernel in the first place...

There's been quite a few new epic users to the forums lately as their evo phones were replaced with this one for a replacement thru sprint. Quite a few old threads on rooting, kernels and themes have been resurrected in the last 30 days or so as a result.

Other relevent info is I am using a Mac and can't open .exe files. Is there a work around? . . . and do I need to unroot before doing this one click odin or will this just replace my old root while preserving my info?
Thanks.

Use Heimdall to flash tars then. Grab the one for FH13 if you want the latest official ICS or EL29 if you want the last GB out. Sfhubs one click threads have a second post with the tars as for FH13 dunno how Garwynn and rwilco have their stuff arranged.

You have CWM recovery right?
If so copy Calks rom onto your phone, if you don't still have it there.
Download the EL29 zip file to your phone from http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com...y Kernels/GB/Rogue Recovery/Stock Repacks/ZIP.
Instll that zip from recovery and reboot back into recovery.
Install Calks Rom again.
You should be fixed now.
If you prefer to go with FH13 (ICS):
Download the AGAT_v0.5.4.zip file to your phone from http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com...y Kernels/ICS/Agats Source Built Recovery/ZIP
Copy this file to your phone http://d-h.st/Txi
Install the FH13 Rom from recovery.
Instll the AGAT_v0.5.4.zip while still in recovery.
You should be fixed on FH13 now.
If you want the Modem you can download the FH13 modem zip from here and flash it from recovery. http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/ModemSite/?dir=MODEMS/ICS/ZIP

Bump.
Different issue:
1. I keep getting a FI27 Software Update reminder. I am able to clear it out of my notifications but 5-10 mins it's back again. It will interrupt whatever it is I am doing at the moment.
2. Is there a separate current radio I can download? My gps can never find my current location, rendering the turn by turn feature useless since I can't use it.
Any thoughts?
TIA

The link given earlier to download the modems contains the FI27 modem. You could flash that and it may get rid of the update reminder.

What this guy said. Didn't think about that.
Hey guys,
I purchased this phone today, went home and immediately rooted the phone.
Everything went fine, until I tried flashing a custom recovery than the problem occurred,
I'm on a FL24 basebad with 4.0.4, and every time my phone boots 10 seconds later it restarts.
What's going on?
I rooted the phone with Odin, once rooted I installed mobile Odin and flashed a customer "Kernel / Recovery" now the phone constantly reboots.
Install the stock kernel.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Well the kernel I flashed was 0.4.0, I heard that one has reboot issues so I flashed 0.3.0 and it's working great.
The only thing I can't figure out now is how to flash CWM, keeps taking me to the download screen when booting into "recovery".

To boot to recovery
Vol up plus power and hold
Once the splash screen shows, release power and continue to hold Vol up.
You will get to recovery.

How come E4GT ROMS are so large in size, back when I had an EVO and Optimus roms were about 100MB, E4GT are about 500mb?
Well sounds like the recovery was either flashed wrong or is defective for whatever reason..
Here is how to root that version by qb77king. He is very good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqmKN2ewatk&feature=youtube_gdata_player.....
here is a video for the recovery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb63ldWtnoM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
So I'd like to help but need to know more info to go by. Did you enable USB debugging when you flashed the recovery? Anyways go ahead and go to stockroms.net. there you can find a stock ROM to flash your phone with unless its virgin or boost.
I recommend just getting stock jellybean or wild for the night cyanogen.. I know you just bought it but I can tell you its worth it ICS is horrible,Too many problems. You can actually find a jellybean ROM that is already rooted when u flash it.. Anyways download the android root toolkit from the market... This will save your phone's root

Hey Trytohoaxme. So as of right now there is no cmw for ICS. There is Agat recovery which is based off of cwm that is for either a ICS ROM or jelly bean ROM. I have cmw that is a jingerbread kernal that interfaces with CyanogenMod 10.1 which has 4.2.2 jellybean. If you flash clockworkmod it won't work with a stock rom your phone won't be able to boost up..
Graydiggy u are pretty rude. I hope to god your mom raised you better. Show some respect on this forum, XDA is a place for positive feedback, not negative people who criticize others who which are naive and conceited.

Who's conceited?
I'm pretty sure he's just trying to help and avoid misinformation, no need to get offended, bud... And the op stated the issue was already resolved.
He never asked about cwm specifically, just a custom recovery. On TW ICS I've used Agat's, Ruj's, and Slesh's kernels/recoveries without issue. There's really no need for EL26/CWM tar unless you want to play it safe (which i do) going from TW to AOSP or vise versa.
And yes stock TW ROMs are huge. AOSP ROMs end up around 240 megs (give or take) including Gapps.

Well when people like you give incorrect information like you are currently doing, or makes everything more complicated than it should be, again, something you are doing, I will be rude. ICS has had source for a very very long time and has had a CWM for a long time. JB does not. I have been here for a long time and there is a reason I have recognized contributor. I may be rude, but when someone else risks someone's expensive phone, sometimes it takes being rude. If you can't handle it, oh well.
The reason for my response was because the issue was solved and the stockroms.net is not a site that I trust. We have a repository for all of our stock ROMs.
