I have tried several of the obvious ones available on GP, but they don't seem to do anything much. Has anyone found a wifi booster app that does the trick? Cheers!

I'm pretty sure you'll find that all of those apps are little more than snake oil.
do this download wifi analyzer and it will tell u ur weak channels and ur strongest channels on ur wifi router. then log into router and change ur wifi channel to the strongest one. works great and i have no probs now!!
plus those wifi booster apps are junk
Thanks, there is definitely an improvement!

My configuration of Wifi was correct. because the ipod touch 3 can also use the internet sharing.
but the Desire can not even find the wifi's name.
Is there anyboy can help me?
My laptop is DELL D630 and OS is WIN7
I think you can use connectify for that... there seems to be no ad hoc support for desire atm. Not sure though.

the Desire doesn't support Adhoc networks out of stock, you need a patch for that.

That won't work. Desire doesn't have a Texas Instruments wifi chip (the 'ti' in the tiwlan.ini).
Cyanogen does have a fix coming (IIRC) but not in any build yet.
it is done. thanks a lot. i use connectify ,my laptop support this software. it is perfect. thanks again

Works fine if you use ifconfig/iwconfig. Skip the tiwlan config. check my earlier post.
this is just proof that Apple products 'just works', more user friendly and superior to HTC garbage
Just joking. You can lower the pitchforks now.

Although connectify works for you, it's not the real solution since only wifi cards in laptops/desktop that support the hostap mode (i.e. turning the card into an access point) will work. A lot of the intel cards don't support connectify.
The real solution is for google to fix the codebase which is in progress to support ad-hoc networks. It's surprising that this was not a default 'feature' in the codebase. It's rumored that Gingerbread will have it supported.

Hey
I use the Galaxy Nexus since 6 month and I always had GPS issues. I tried all Roms existing on earth and apps (tried to modify GPS.conf also).
Now with Jelly Bean I ve always bad accuracy (see attached photo)
So should I wait for 4.2 or 5.0 to be this fixed?

Can't hurt to try.
Set the country and region to an area near you and grant superuser access.
Considering our micro GPS receiver, that's not horrible accuracy, especially considering the small size of the area of coverage.
Have you tried Crypted's modified GPS conf file? I haven't tested it on JB.

I noticed a toggle in the toggles menu called download booster. It enables both the wifi radio and the LTE radio to work together to gain additional speed when downloading files over 30mb. It's pretty slick.
Check it out if you haven't
Yep, I'm using it from day one and it's pretty slick!

I think you just pull down the notification bar and you'll see in the notification shade the wifi/4G bars signifying the speed its pulling from each source to download the item.

OIC. Thank you.
curious
Does anyone know if there is a torrent client that works with this feature? I've tried searching for one with no luck... maybe there is one that emulates this feature
When it kicks in, there will be a notification on screen that tells you its working.
Then during the transfer there will be a notification in the drop down menu..
It seems like it only works during certain types of transfers.. like web downloads and such. It doesnt kick in during an ookla speed test.

It only works for files over 30 mb. then you'll see a different icon show up in your status bar. Also if you pull down your notifications , you will see the wifi and LTE speeds in a bar graph kinda thing

Was wondering this myself. We would need to know how it's determining the file size. I bet once we get root, that's one of the first things that get changed , always on DL booster lol

I have dropbox sync on and I upload a lot of videos to youtube, for those situations it's great. But ya, torrent would be nice. It's simply a matter of convincing the phone that whatever is being downloaded is larger than 30mb.
Introduction
So many people were asking so, here's the Location Based Wifi used previously by Sony on KitKat.
I have adapted the app to work on Lollipop and I have also add the possibility to launch as a regular app from your Launcher to avoid any modification of Settings.apk.

Install Instruction
Hit Thanks and Install it as any apk

You'll have to modify the xml files in your settings.apk and repack it.
if it doesn't work for you, just get Smart Wifi Toggler from Play Store instead.
IMHO the best alternative solution for location based WiFi is Llama, a great apk which uses phone masts (no gps) to determine your wifi.
I use it for a long time and it works great.
There is a newer version for Lollipop on the homepage of the dev - google for it -
BTW thx @niaboc79 for porting it.

This is made to be useful.
When I am leaving my house, Wifi is automatically turned off and when I am coming back, it is turned on.
Wifi always on when not used should drain battery so I think it may help with that app.

Same here. Really liked this feature and it was a shame Sony got rid of it. Their reason made no sense at all and they didn't really back it up with anything.
I've been using Wi-fi Matic in the past: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.cprados.wificellmanager&hl=en.
Its pretty similar to Smart Wifi toggler.
