[APP][PORT] Location Based Wifi for Lollipop - Sony Cross-Device Development Themes and Apps

Introduction
So many people were asking so, here's the Location Based Wifi used previously by Sony on KitKat.
I have adapted the app to work on Lollipop and I have also add the possibility to launch as a regular app from your Launcher to avoid any modification of Settings.apk.

You'll have to modify the xml files in your settings.apk and repack it.

if it doesn't work for you, just get Smart Wifi Toggler from Play Store instead.

IMHO the best alternative solution for location based WiFi is Llama, a great apk which uses phone masts (no gps) to determine your wifi.
I use it for a long time and it works great.
There is a newer version for Lollipop on the homepage of the dev - google for it -
BTW thx @niaboc79 for porting it.

hello guys, what about the battery life with this app/mod, anyone can confirm its better?

This is made to be useful.
When I am leaving my house, Wifi is automatically turned off and when I am coming back, it is turned on.
Wifi always on when not used should drain battery so I think it may help with that app.

Same here. Really liked this feature and it was a shame Sony got rid of it. Their reason made no sense at all and they didn't really back it up with anything.
I've been using Wi-fi Matic in the past: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.cprados.wificellmanager&hl=en.
Its pretty similar to Smart Wifi toggler.

Sony Weather widget with GPS location

Someone over XS forum post this and I just upload (pull from Xperia T). Work great.. much better than fix location
Cool - finally someone took the initiative - waiting for so long.
Edit : disappointed big time - all it does just detected location at first and that is - not followed with the phone
Not really any different than the stock ion widget?
Every time change location you have to goto setting and click on my location. Just little improve over the old one.
can i use this on xperia active ?
can't get this to work by replacing the old one in /system/app
(permission changed)
is there anyway I can get this working?
(Xperia Ion lt28h)

Actually it's quite stable and I can't believe it's still tagged as "Nightly". Wi-fi, NFC, Bluetooth and stuff working great. I haven't seen any serious issues 'til now.
Very thanks for ROM!
I really like the Omnitom

This's not Location based Wifi.
Location based Wifi, will connect to known wifi network, that you connect it your phone before.
Your answer is for register position of the phone, it's just GPS or battery save mode location, with only wifi and mobile network determine location, if any app recommended it, like Sygic, Navigon and e.t.c. This is different.
I think wifi will automatically connect when knowing wifi network in coverage. But wifi must turn on.

Missing this option in LP

I will try port from kk if it can.
There is NO need for a port. Location based WiFi is always ON, so there is no need to turn it off or on, it is completely automatic! :good::laugh:
The feature he is talking about uses a geofences type location service. I'm pretty sure it checks your location by what cell tower you're connected to, and completely turns off your WiFi when you're away from any previously connected points. There's an app in the play store called "Smart Places" you might want to check out. It's not as automatic as the stock option, but it does the same thing.
I had tried other options but the sony one was always much more accurate.

As I said before: Wi-Fi scanning is a always on, there is no need for another toggle.
We have made improvements in the Wi-Fi scanning, which made the power saving in Location-based Wi-Fi nearly negligible. Therefore we removed the Location-based Wi-Fi.

Have you any plan for z3 compact? Please make this rom for z3c.
I'd also like to see someone port this!
Why do you want this? What are you trying to achieve?
Are you claiming that the LP devs are wrong when they say that there is no power saving benefit to location based wifi any more?
Are you experiencing some battery drain that you didnt before?
I sort of liked that old feature, but I dont care that its gone because it works better now and apparently uses no more battery. Whats the downside?

How you edit it to make it work ?
Not everyone want Existenz Y but also another rom with Location Based Wifi.
Please pm me how you did it.

That feature is limited to my users.
I have changed approximately 2000 lines of smali code to make that app work on Lollipop.
People are free to use all what they want but I am also free to share what I want.

Hmm oke then you will force people to use your rom only for that, but xda is to share and people give you also permissions to share thier work in your roms, remember
Otherwise people can also think what they wanna share or not.

Sony claims that function does not allow significant battery life gains.
Who knows ? Not me.
It would deserve rigorous testing.

Battery status of Bluetooth device

Hi guys,
I would like to know if there's a possibility to display the battery status of a connected Bluetooth device on the Oneplus 3? Natively or via a third party app? Ideally for me, it should work on the stock ROM but if necessary I would flash a custom one if it would only be possible that way.
Thanks in advance :good:

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't seem to work with my specific pair of headphones :/ If that means that they don't send battery information to the phone I probably can't get it to work with any solution.

Sorry to hear that.
FWIW after suggesting the app to you, I did try it out. It seemed to work with my pair of blue tooth headphones during the limited time I used it..
Going by the comments about the app in the play store, it looks like the usage is limited based on the manufacturer of the blue tooth device....
Just to close this topic: This feature was released in Open Beta 19 and for me it works great!
how to enable that??? by default its not showing when connected......... im on latest beta

How do you activate it? I have a watch connected and it's not showing anything
I didn't have to activate it. For me it just worked. Your Bluetooth device still has to support sending its battery information to the phone. In this months Open Beta update there were some fixes for this feature. Maybe it works for you now?
Edit: grammar

Thanks, Have flashed the Carbon CR 6.1 and have only one word for the ROM amazing. Most of Tue customization features are missing, but that's what I wanted. A very high battery SOT. Every thing is perfect. I flashed it without the GappsIts somehow difficult to live without gapps, but I know I will.
Thanks man
