Hi there, I recently had an accident with my Nexus and damaged it's screen. I did find the phone to be working for the next few days even though there is no display. Since I got the phone off amazon (I'm in India), I sent it to Singapore through a friend for fixing a new screen. However, they are now telling me that my motherboard has been completely damaged and it needs fixing as well. I do not believe that because I have seen the phone function for few days after the accident. I heard phones calls and vibrations for texts.
How do I now figure out if he is indeed telling the truth about my motherboard? Is there any do-it-yourself method to it? My friend, who has my phone, did try switching it on after putting it on charge and said that there was no response from the phone. Does this confirm my motherboard's damage?

Hi,
When I tried to unlock my phone this morning the screen didn't turn on so i figured the battery died on me. I connected it to the charger but it didn't do anything. A few seconds later i suddenly got a notification sound and the LED started blinking but still the screen wouldn't come on. I tried tapping some random places in the screen and I noticed it responded to my touch, by now I started getting scared the screen might have died on me.
I pulled the battery and tried to reboot the phone, same problem, screen responds but doesn't display anything, not even the google logo.
Then I tried getting in the bootloader, same thing here, got into bootloader but screen didn't display anything. I figured it might be a problem with the bootloader or whatever so I flashed the factory image from Google but the problem persisted.
The phone was working perfectly yesterday and it hasn't dropped on the floor or got wet, it just sat on the table all night long.
So is there anything else I can do? Has my screen just died randomly on me?
In case the screen needs to be replaced, will Samsung do this for free? I'm not sure if it matters but I'm in Europe.
Anyone? I'm quite desperate here.

phone was fine untill yesterday evening (i've had the phone just over a year), i got a message ( i heard the notification sound ) went to unlock the phone and nothing, so i tried pulling the battery, restart the phone and still nothing
led works on the phone, it boots play sounds recieves message etc and the touch and feed back works so you can push random buttons but the screen is completely blank
no cracks, no water damage

I sent my phone in and it turned out I had water damage, even though I'm sure it never ever came in to contact with water or even moisture. Had to buy a new one, no refund or anything. Even had to pay €200 to get my broken phone back.
I hope you have more luck than I did.
You got ripped hard, water damage is an excuse the telcos use to get out of replacing your device, its a widespread practise, sounds like your phone had a hardware fault and should have been repaired or replaced.
If it happens again insist on proof and explain you know your rights and will pursue a formal investigation with whatever is the relevant consumer authority in your region.
Dont take no for an answer and be prepared to politely but firmly argue for your rights and also escalate the complaint if not satisfied with the sellers response.
It is not unusual for mass produced devices to have hardware faults, but water damage is a total copout by the seller.
For example it is estimated that between 0.5% and 2.5% of sgs3 i9300 devices have faulty batteries which leak and damage internal hardware, and typically the seller will blame the buyer for water damage (more $ for them) rather than replace the device (no $ for them).

Hi,
I received a complaint from a friend of mine that her galaxy nexus stopped working. She dropped the phone off at a service center, and they told her that it was a hardware problem - specifically the "flash ig" inside the phone was broken. I tried looking this up but no info could be found.
What happened was that basically her phone underwent a hard fall and a portion of the screen on the bottom right cracked. However the phone worked normally for the next 2 days. After that the phone just turned off and no attempts were successful in turning it on thereafter.
I took a look at the phone, tried resetting it in every way possible, but nothing works. I believe the screen flashed for a brief second around 10-15 minutes after i plugged the phone into my laptop, but im not sure. Other than that, it's basically a paperweight at this point.
Can anything be done for the phone, any hopes or possibilities? Please let me know. Attached a couple pics showing the crack.

Without seeing the actual damage, no one can say for sure. It could be as simple as resoldering one connection on the pcb, or it could be toast. Trust me in the no one is clairvoyant enough to determine what the damage is without actually opening it up to see. There's not much to lose at this point, so you may want to open it up using one of the teardown guides online and see if anything jumps out at you.

i dropped my htc one x and the glass cracked, so i sent it away to a supposed reputable firm (i didnt realise htc repaired phones aswell otherwise i would have sent it there)
anyway the lcd display and brightness worked perfectly, the company have replaced the screen and now the backlight no longer works and flickers when touched or cpu is being used.
they have said it is the display IC, and coil etc,
they say that this was caused by the phone being dropped, and not by them and they have charged me (they take payment before sending phone back), they initially took the phone back, and 3 weeks later they have decided to wash there hands of it, have put the phone back together shodily tell me i have to put up with the phone as it is, and refuse me a refund.
they acknowledge that the ic was fine before they took it apart, but blame it on the nature of the phone design as to why it now doesn't work.
i would post link to another forum explainingg the possible issue (has no explanation of cause though) and pics of the phone has been returned to me, but i can't because im a noob

Who is at fault?
And how could the ic get shorted out,
The backlight flickering is likely to be poor installation of the new screen.
Again this is an old example I'm referring to here. I used to replace the screens on the Nokia n95 quite regularly.
You get the screen assembly and the ribbon cable which attached to the motherboard.
If the ribbon cable was not seated 100% perfectly I would get the exact same symptoms you are describing.
No backlight. Pressing down on the screen would either get it to flicker or come on for a while.
It shows a poor connection. I took the screen back out and repositioned the cable back in. Reassembled and then it was fine after

Hi mate did you managed to get this sorted I am having the exact trouble same issue with a company call Elite Phones and Computers.
They are saying that the IC shorted out and the only repair would have to be a replacement board.

had the same ..from now ill always send it to htc if something is broken again it costs the same i found out
I have a HTC one X, got the black screen of death. I assumed it was a loose connection as the phone is sometimes dropped. I found a forum online mentioning that its the motherboard thats faulty.
I had the phone fixed by HTC after the LED screen was shattered, this cost me around 140 quid. They sent me a refurbished phone, I noticed the screen flickered under certain colours but assumed it was a driver issue. I updated the phone and found 2 updates and seemed fine after that.
Then few days back I put my phone down for couple hrs and come back to it to find the screen is black. Apparently is the video driver shorting or something.
HTC basically gave me faulty phone, thats how i see it, just wondering if I was to send it off what do they look for to see if the case has been opened. Hopefully I can seal it back and they might not notice?
I wanted to fix it myself initially, because I have data on my phone thats not backed up.
Also is the motherboard replacement under warranty or?

If you open the phone, i would assume they can see its been opened before. This can be done in many ways. Some screws show signs of having been removed, and scratches on the top of the screws also indicates this.. Then there are the "warrenty if void" stickers across places you need to breach.
Do you plan on opening up the phone? From what you write you have not yet opened the (faulty) phone you got from them, as a replacement? If they gave you a faulty phone, they did not fix the issue with it (you still have issues), and then i believe it should be straight forward to return it. Simply telling them what you write here (got it, noticed wierd stuff, updated it and then it seemed fine, but now its dead). The phone never REALLY worked, after you got it back (refurbished = phone returned to HTC that they send out to other customers as "NEW" while its in fact "CLEANED AND AS-GOOD-AS-NEW" - right?)
My advice would be to NOT OPEN the phone, start by having them replace it. If THAT fails, you can resort to opening it yourself.

The problem was I was kinda impatient, and assumed it was a loose connection. Also I have data on the phone and was convinced I could fix it myself (have done other phones). I know when you send the phone off they get wiped before any work is done on them.
I have opened it, there was one screw at the top of the phone with a void print on it. I didn't scuff the screw and was put back in the exact same place.
There was no void stickers or tags to move, the only thing was the battery was stuck down to the base of the phone. It's now loose, i was hoping if i just stick that back and send it off they won't notice anything. There's no marks inside or outside of the phone, look new still.

Well I think there is no way to get a new phone, because you bought a refurbished phone. There is a warranty on refurbished phones, but I'm pretty sure that its nearly impossible to proof that it was their fault or already damaged when you got it.

I bought the phone brand new from a phone company (in store), since then I've had the phone fixed 3 times. Twice was my fault, but the other fault was the touch screen buttons on the bottom of the phone. They were no longer responsive.
I basically shattered the LED screen, sent it off to HTC, paid 140 quid for repair and sent me this crappy refurbished phone back. This one had the flickering issues and eventually fried the motherboard. Something about shorting the video driver i read in another xda thread.

yesterday I bought a G4 H815.
I have the following problem: If my phone is on the bed next to me, or lying on a table, the touchscreen response is terrible. If I'm holding it in my hand, there's no problem. If it's charging and so lying on the bed, there's no problem either. It sucks when scrolling on Facebook (it doesn't scroll sometimes, but opens something instead, sharing, commenting etc), when typing a message, and even when waking up the screen with double knock.
I searched a bit on the internet and I found a guy, who had a problem like this but with another phone. He had a grounding issue after having the touch screen changed.
What could be the problem here? Maybe grounding, or some kind of isolation is faulty? Or is it the ISSUE everyone is having?
I bought the phone yesterday, so I'd like to send it back to get a new one, but the shop tells me it's not a "problem" because a bunch of lg g4 users have this problem and a new update from LG will fix it..
But I don't think it's the same thing. What do you say?
What I don't get is that it's only producing the problem while lying on a flat surface (table, bed - the phone is lying still, that's not a problem), but when I hold it, or plug it into the wall, it's perfect. That's why I would think it's some kind of grounding issue, although I'm totally not competent in electricity.

Seems like similar issue as mine. The members here claim that it may be due to the curvature of the phone.
Yup, you need to get a replacement.
I had this problem with my wife's phone and mine. but i changed to a different USB cable (not stock) and the problem does not appear!

Same here.. Im with the second lg g4 device after i replaced the first
with this issue.. u waste your time all the lg g4 devices
that i checked were with this issue.. the only hope is that its
softwere issue and new kernel or rom will fix it...
a lot of users here already report about this issue.
u need to learn to live with it or just to buy other phone and not the G4.
