i have some micro usb plugs and for some reason they dont fit all the way into the usb port on my captivate and keep falling out....anyone know where to get car chargers that fit all the way in? most plugs have to thick of a plastic and wont go all the way into the port....the one that came with the captivate has thin plastic around the plug itself..
Take a sharp blade and trim some of the plastic off at a 45 degree angle, worked for me.

I bought the Motorola car charger from ebay for like seven bucks and it fits perfect and is really long. I use a Nokia cable for charging at home and my Samsung cable stays in my travel bag since I'm on the road about three or four days a week. All fis excellent.
I ordered a car charger for like six bucks and usb cable for approx 4 bucks from amazon. Both were original Samsung products and the ends are shaped just like the cable that came with the phone, fits perfect. Just search for Samsung car charger andSamsung usb cable on amazon, if you haven't found an alternate solution.

Before you go out and buy a new cord, are you sure that you are opening the hatch all the way? My wife thought that no cords fit and kept falling out until I showed her that you have to slide the USB open until it clicks.
Is it that hard to figure this out? Sand paper or a sharp knife can shave away the plastic on the cable. The side that faces the back of the phone is where they interfere just bevel it a bit and you are all good. forget the stock over priced stuff, I get my cables at the dollar store.

Out of the 4+ charging stations I have laid out at home/work, each one has had the MicroUSB plug modified with a razor blade. Takes all of 10 seconds to hack off a little rubber, and then you're all set.
I've had the same issue. Most chargers wont fit. I think the USB on the phone is recessed a little too much for most chargers. Do what everyone else says and hack a little of that rubber off so it fits!

I use my old Moto Q wall charger at home, and the stock cord for connecting to my desktop. At work I use the USB cable from my old Moto Q and the stock plug part for charging at work and connecting to my laptop. I got my bases covered. ;-)

I bought a charger at Walgreens at all places.. it was 14 bucks and I didn't need to cut anything
I bought Motorola mini to micro usb adapters and they fit just fine. Seems like Motorola OEM stuff is small enough by my experience and other's above. I had tons of mini sized chargers for my GPS, camera, and Blackberry so the adapters have allowed me to keep using them. I bought a pack of 5 for less than $20 on Amazon.
I was browsing around on ebay and found a multimedia dock for our beloved TB's. Its deff not the highest quality dock i have ever seen, but it looks like a viable replacement until Verizon or HTCpedia release the official one. It doesnt look like it is slanted slightly to have a nice viewing angle but still its $30...the one from Verizon is $60. Let me know what you guys think.

That one has been available for a little while now. There is a thread where someone has a link for it cheaper also. I'm holding out for the Verizon one.
I would avoid this one, I purchased one from amazon and returned it the same day. The viewing angle is horrible, it is difficult to put in and take off (almost dropped my TB taking it off), and worst part about it, It did not charge the phone. All the lights worked on it, but would not produce a charge. I will wait for the verizon one if it ever comes out.

aw really? i wanted to get this only for charging purposes but whats the point if it doesnt charge
Bah, Noob with first smartphone here! I failed to read any replies, and jumped at the deal, and even ordered the silicon soft case from the same guy.
I want to plug the phone into my Roku box's USB to show videos and pictures I took on the phone. I went to the Verizon store and they said that their multimedia cradles would be available soon, but so far 3 weeks have past and no cradle.
Well, I guess I could fix it if it don't work, I just hope that the extended battery fits.
I bought the soft case to see if I could cut out the extended battery hump easily with a laser engraver.
Misleading title, please change.
Hmm... I've been wanting a cradle for awhile now. So I jumped on this offer, and like any good online buyer, I look for reviews on the product AFTER I buy it. Can you guys confirm that this won't charge the phone? I was just looking for something to hold the phone up while I use WiFi keyboard. :/

OK I have this dock but I knew going in what it was going to be about so I can give you an idea of what you're getting.
The dock has two connectors on it. One is a USB cable (removable) and one is an A/C plug. The A/C plug is there ONLY to charge the second battery and does not charge the bolt when plugged into the dock. It WILL charge the extended battery (the OEM extended batt does fit in the spare battery slot) but not when it's actually on the Bolt. You can't fit the Bolt in the dock with anything other than the stock battery on it.
The USB cable plugs from the dock into (duh) a USB port on your PC. When it's plugged into the USB port the Bolt does detect the connection and I have been able to charge the Bolt this way. I've also been able to mount the SD card this way to move files and stuff. It doesn't charge as fast being USB vs wall charger but it does charge it. I'm looking at it right now and it just charged it to 100 percent.
The USB cable will not plug directly into the Bolt. It's Mini USB and not Micro USB. Another issue is that you can forget leaving the Bolt in a case and putting it on this dock. It will not fit with any case that I've seen. As was previously mentioned the viewing angle is a bit harsh (it's not angled.) It's basically a straight up and down mount so unless you're putting the dock somewhere at least at eye level it's not as easy to view.
This dock also has NO HDMI port on it. I have mine at work because I don't need the HDMI here. I'm going to get the OEM dock for home use since it's expected to have the HDMI out.
So to summarize it does charge the Bolt's stock battery in the dock as well as the extended in the spare battery slot. You can use the USB functions while plugged into the dock. I'm streaming Pandora right now while docked. The viewing angle is a bit harsh when the dock sits below eye level. The Bolt charges over USB with this dock. The spare battery will only charge via the attached A/C plug. You can't charge it in a case. The USB cable (removable) is mini USB NOT Micro USB and there is no HDMI.
Hope this helps.
ETA: I should add that you could use one of those USB to A/C adapters and plug the USB cable from the dock into A/C and charge that way (if you just wanted a faster charging solution.) I have tested it and it does charge that way.
Many thanks Cubs2008 ! This is exactly what I was looking for. I feel bad that I bought the dock on Ebay for $27 when I could have gotten it on Amazon for less, but lesson learned. Glad to know that I can charge the phone and the battery! Now to figure out the viewing angle problem (post it notes under the front end?). lol.

I paid even more ($34 I think) but it does what I need it to for now. If I needed HDMI at work I'd have waited but no point in that.
As for the viewing angle it's really not too bad if you can raise the dock more to your eye level. It does wiggle a little bit left to right in the dock (but very little.) You could put it on a book or something that would raise it up and it's fine. I sit pretty low at my desk in my chair so it's not nearly as much of an issue for me (and it's not quite at eye level.)
There is one more thing I forgot to add...someone mentioned getting it in and out of the dock being a pain and I totally agree. It's due to the fact that it basically sits almost upright in the dock. There are times where I've gotten frustrated just trying to get it in or out of there. It's because I always think of angling it into the dock rather than going straight down with it. When I do drop it straight in it usually slides right in with no issue. However I also have a Zagg max coverage shield on my Bolt so I may have more of an issue because of that.
Good luck!
Thanks for the information, Cubs2008! Very much appreciated.
Wish I had a contact at a factory in China... probably wouldn't be very difficult to produce a better quality desktop dock at a competitive price!

No kidding! If they would've angled the dock in front just a little bit and added an HDMI port this thing would've slayed the OEM dock. It still does a lot on its own IMO and we probably would've seen the dock for $60+ instead of around $30.
I'll still get the OEM dock when it comes out but this one does do what I need it to at work. Yay.

they can't just add an HDMI port just like that. if they could we already would see a post on here about a hdmi cable.
The dock arrived today...
Here is the lowdown after disassembling it:
It looks to be assembled by children with a hot glue gun and old fashioned soldering gun. There is gobs of hot glue used to hold in the 2 LED's. One is an insanely bright blue led, and the other, untested and discarded, is a bi-color led.
There are 2 completely isolated circuits inside, one being a simple micro-USB connector on a cable that is hot glued in place, with the blue LED tapped off the 5V from the USB. I could not find any resistor inline with the LED, so it's lifespan is questionable at best.
The second circuit is the battery charger board held in place with 1 screw at one end, and the mini-USB socket at the other. It has wires to the bi-color LED. This is powered by a 5V 1A wall wart. It does not supply any power to the USB that connects to the phone
The LED's have their full length of lead wire in tact, with over-sized shrink tubing loosely covering them, and all that excess lead wire is sticking out of the hot glue like cat whiskers.
In effect it electrically comparable to a $5 battery charger, and a separate $1 USB to micro-USB cable, nothing more.
There is no media functions whatsoever. It is difficult and time consuming to plug the phone into the cradle, and you cannot use it with the extended battery or any type of case.
Advice: pass! Use your easier to plug in HTC USB cable, and if you want a separate battery charger, get another brand.

They probably could've when they manufactured it.
wow, Cubs2008 thanx for the indepth info!
I wanted to add to the topic that you can actually stand the entire dock upright with the Bolt plugged in and the extended battery in there and it will stay standing up. I'd advise placing the battery and the Bolt in it landscape and then pick the entire dock up and it will stand up. I've used it this way with no ill effects.
I work for vzw and the Samsung charge and thunderbolt have a charging dock that not only charges, but comes with an extra battery that charges in the dock itself. Should be released very soon.

How soon is "very soon" then?
Got my 900 Yesterday and realized his morning that the charge cable had popped out overnight. Upon inspection I discovered that the shape of the hole in the Silicone cover I received (AT&T is giving away $100 of accessories in Illinois on top of everything else, WOOT!) is not the same as the shape of the micro-USB cable that came with the phone. I thought it was a genuine Nokia case, I don't have the box because the were kind enough to dispose of it.
I'm curious if anyone else has run into this? The charge cable is fairly oval shaped while the hole in the case is more of a basic trapezoid /__\.
Has anyone else run into this or do your hole and cable shape match up, if so are you matched oval or trapezoid?
you know my car charger won't fit and I have a Samsung Micro-USB cable that I use to plug it into my computer and that one is super lose. But then I use some third party no name micro-USB cable that I use to charge and that one fits perfectly fine. Have you tried the actual cable that came with the phone? Usually those Nokia cables are high quality.
Yeah, it's the stock cable that came with the phone that won't fit. It's quite secure without the case on, but pops off when using the case due to the difference in hole shape.
If Nokia would have centered the usb port it would be less an issue. Very annoying to me as well so I took the dremel to the case. The case is so tight I don't want to have to remove it constantly.
Yeah, I noted this in my review of the L900. I am tempted to carve out part of the gel case, but it would probably be noticeable from the front of the phone. They should have centered the micro-USB socket on the top of the phone.
The one thing I miss from my Surround is the indicator light. Not for missed calls (I don't get many). But liked knowing the phone was charging/charged. Now I have to power on to be sure the cable didn't move.

The rocketfish micro USB data cable will for sure work and latch on and some other rocketfish micro USB products (such as the car charger). I had the same problem with all my existing micro USB cables and I stopped by best buy and plugged in all of their micro USB cables into my phone with the gel case to see which ones would work.
I have that exact same case and all USB cables I have tried fit perfectly. Not sure why you're having this problem...

Mine is oval, and while the plug goes in fine it does not seat flat to the phone. So it's up 1/16" and that could be enough for ot to wobble out if you touch the phone while charging.
I walk around the house with a short 8" USB cable and portable USB charger. Nokia has popped out a few times. Surround never did.

Ditto here. Same problem. USB stays secured enough though. I have a Samsung USB that's a little thinner and fits better more secure. Not completely a nuisance though.
so i made the mistake of forgetting to close my bedroom door behind me while i went to make a sandwich. during the 5 minutes i was gone, my cat came and demolished the usb cable that came with the phone. I liked that cable, and i was wondering if anyone knew where i could buy another OEM cable (or one thats just as long, works just as well, and fits in my phone case)
the main reason i need one though is because its the only one i have that fits in the usb while i have my case on it
Same here. The micro-USB cable I have doesn't work completely (it doesn't go in all the way I think.) So I have to position the phone in the right angle to connect it to my computer.
...
Check Amazon.com and get a wireless inductive charger with charging pad. They are around $35 for the set and then you don't have to worry about using the USB cable.
But then again you probably would need one for things like ADB and modding the phone so up to you but its an option.
I just ordered one myself and will be getting some extra charging pads for each of my work offices.
I've had excellent results with the cables from monoprice.com--almost all of the are $2 or less.
I ordered a half dozen of the "premium" ones with ferrite cores(for a buck thirty apiece) a few months back so I could have a spares at home, in the truck, at work, etc. etc. and I've had zero problems with any of them so far.
Hey my cat knows better.

I want to buy a magnetic charger and I live in India and very low quality cables are available on the local websites. I have looked for cables on eBay.com which ship to my location but I don't know which one to buy. I need your opinions. My maximum budget is 12$(incl. shipping).
The WSKEN Cable is available at my location. Is the cable worth buying?
Thanks in advance.
I got wsken magnetic cable, and its build quality is fine, but magnet is not that strong - its even weaker than another fake original sony cable i got. But if you just use it to charge your phone without using it, it can do the job.
I wouldnt recommend one with a very strong magnet. There have been some horror stories of the storng magnet PULLING the phones charge port completely out. I got a fairly weak one from amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UOVZOBK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Fits perfectly with my Cruzerlite TPU case. I even have EXTRA room for clearance. Magnet isnt the strongest which makes me happy as I only charge at night when I'm sleeping as the phone lasts through the day for me.
Yup, it happened to me. I use a Magnector adaptor and it is very strong, after a while the whole connector came off as there was simply a VERY thin acrylic glue foam tape (VHB ?) holding it and keeping water off. By thin I do not mean the thickness but the actual long side surface
The good news is that the connection with the internal PCB board are spring loaded, so I put it back in place and tested it then used a needle to put some cyanoacrlylate glue to hold it, it never came out again and the phone still look ok. Now I always try to removing it with a twisting motion just in case...
It is hard for me to understand how they can claim waterproof and use such thin gasket but I still like this phone a lot!
hmm dont think I'll be getting a magnetic charger any time soon then if it comes off that easily. >_<
It's just the Magnector adapter that seems to do that. None of the others are strong enough to pull the connector off of the phone.
I just bought an OEM one from aliexpress for only $2.71 US. btw you only save .03 if you use the mobile app
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...a-Z1-Charger-Adapter/1775016_32429292298.html
I also have a generic magnetic charger. The one with a circle blue LED in the part near the magnet. I found that it charges slowly compared to the OEM usb cable that came in the box. I used the same OEM charger for both tests.
Charging via magnetic cable is roughly 60-70% of the speed of normal USB charging. Is this just me that I have a low quality cable or is it really that much slower?
I tried two Magnetic cables but they don't work on my Z3 Compact because pins are not aligned with phone and charging not working probably because there is no contact. Actually i got one with LED indicator to work several times but on slightly move it stops charging and it is hard to get it to charge again so I gave up on these cables.
I bought original Sony DK48 Dock and it's working out of the box. Only issue is that I need to remove protective case before charging because with it phone won't fit in Dock. It almost fits so I'll probably try to modify larger adapter so phone can fit with case...
I received my DK48 dock and magnetic cable from Ali Express and they both work great. The charging cable ($2.71) matches the pins perfectly so doesn't appear to be a knock-off. I have a Devilcase bumper and works with the DK48 dock also with the case on--just attach the included back rest. It takes me a few times to get it aligned perfectly to charge but works.
I'm using this cheap one and it works great for me. Magnet is ok so you can even move your phone as long as the cable is parallel to your phone.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnetic-Ch...39h-KK-/261850771916?var=&hash=item3cf785b1cc
I'm have WSKEN X-cable Easy Version, and it's great.
You can also try WSKEN X-CABLE DOUBLE METAL which has a charge indicator led.
Both cables charge my device faster than original Xperia Z2 charger and magnet is not too weak/too powerful.
Check WSKEN website for details.
I've tried several magnetic chargers and adapters and always facing the same problem, too weak magnet and if the phone is moved even an inch the cable falls off. Finally I got WSKEN X-CABLE for 7$ and that did the trick, everything works great including fast charging. You can literally hold your phone up in the air by the charger. And no, the magnet is not too strong as described in previous posts, with a slight pull it comes off without breaking the phones charging port. There is even a little plastic widget included to attach the cable into the right position angle and you can perfectly use the phone while charging.
