And Everything is gone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Long story short, Nexus is my new phone, have it for around 2 weeks, and I forgot that it doesn't have an SD Card.
I had to revert to yakju from yakjuxw so that I can get JB update. When I did that everything got erased from my phone. And I just got home yesterday from 10 days of drinking and hanging out with my friends at EXIT festival here in Serbia. So many pictures are lost. I feel so bad.
:/
Please guys be careful and always create backups !

You don't have Google+ Instant Upload activated? If you had, you'd have all your pictures now.
I have both that and Dropbox camera uploads activated on my phone, so all my photos and videos are automatically backed up to two separate cloud locations (plus to my computer via Dropbox).

I don't. Cause the internet sucks here.. And we don't have unlimited cellphone bandwidth.

You can set it to WiFi only.

SugarSync is another cloud storage that'll automatically upload photos as you take them.

Download testdisk6.12. And it will recover ur files, hook up the phone through usb to ur pc and run the program.. if u can't find it pm me and i'll mail it to u along with croatian explanation...

Jellybean came out to everyone within like 48 hours of being announced. Sorry you couldn't just hold out. Next time plug it in and back it up!

Same thing as with Google+, I'd rather upload it there if it was possible at the time. But thanks.

The thing is that I forgot that it'll wipe all my data. I had HTC Desire for 2 years, and it never happened to me cause I had an SD Card obviously.
But yeah.. Need to think a bit more next time.

Exactly.

Actually I can't do it with testdisk cause the phone is not mounted as a drive. :/

Well it just waits an uploads any time you're on WiFi. It'll queue up and upload later on.

Hah! I did almost the same thing! (With less drinking).
I compiled my own version of AOSP Jellybean, and used "fastboot -w flashall" which went ahead and wiped the SD storage. Bye-bye clockworkmod and Titanium backups! Thankfully I had recently synced my important app data to Dropbox.
Lesson learned! Always backup to multiple locations before doing anything silly!

Did the same thing.... Wasn't drunk but over-hyped with Jelly Bean preview. Flashed Jelly Bean, however it wasn't booting up. Recovery was stock Android recovery. I had Titanium backups and everything. As I was too excited, I didn't push CWM from fastboot..... Used stock recovery to wipe data. However, I forgot that wiping from stock recovery wipes the entire device....... Lesson learned. Never use stock Android recovery on phones which have a partition system like the Galaxy Nexus to wipe.... :/

Yeah.. well that sucks.
So theres no way to make a MTP device mount as a drive ?

[Q] Most stable ROM with no FC's (

Hi guys,
I'm new to the Samsung Epic 4g and looking for the most stable ROM that's available. Here's why:
This phone does not belong to me. I dated this girl for a few months and before I broke up with her, I told her she should let me root her phone. She did (we put on the ACS Frozen ROM) and she loved it, until a few weeks later it started giving her "Google Services Frameworks" Force closing errors.
Problem was, we had broken up. Because she doesn't know anyone else that knows how to root phones and put on ROMs, she has very awkwardly called me up every few weeks and asked me to fix her phone—because her phone is my responsibility now!
What I'm looking for is the ROM that won't have any FC's and that I won't have to touch for at least another six months. Her stock ROM was no good either (which is why she wanted me to root the phone), fwiw.
I have a Mac and tried the Heimdall method but that didn't seem to work. Basically, I want to be done messing with her phone so I don't have to hang see her again! It was a bad breakup.
Any advice greatly appreciated! I need to flash by tonight.
Re flash and turn journaling on. Should keep her away for a while

Honestly if you broke up and don't want to deal with it just go to stock. Otherwise you are on the hook forever. When gb goes ota guess who she calls. Just put it back to stock.

This^^^^^^^^ and go to settings>applications>manage applications>all and scroll to Google Services Framework, click it and hit clear data. Show this to her and tell her any app that FCs can be fixed this way and walk away. Unless you want to also teach her how to do a nand backup and restore to really be able to walk away.

Thanks guys. I actually ended up bricking the phone with Heimdall-the USB port on my IMac couldn't recognize the phone and all hell broke loose after that-so she and I are splitting the cost of a Nexus S.
At least I have her off my back now. Thanks again for the advice.

Recovery from Format?

Well, I pulled a boneheaded stunt. I accidentally formatted my internal storage instead of the SD card in my phone.... SIGH.... The bad part is, I had a couple of pics I hadn't moved up to the cloud yet, and they're irreplaceable. (One was of my wife and her 4 cousins after her grandfather's funeral) I'm hoping someone has an idea... I've tried Recuva and Pro Discover Basic to try to recover, with no luck.
Any other ideas?
None that I know of, sorry bud. You should start backing up you're pics and important files. I hope someone else can find something but from what I know people have never been able to recover after a format

Yes, I usually do. Thanks for the sage advice. I never would have thought to back up important files and pics.

Look at the get more storage from drop box thread and u can have it upload photos automatically so you never loose them. I have 7 GB on there now

Try unformat software using your PC. You must stop using your phone immediately though. As when you use the phone new stuffs are being written on the internal card and less chance of you recovering old data from it.
I've had some success with Recuva before.

[Q] To devs or anyone...please help!!!!

Here's the problem . My friend has an Stock Epic 4g and it eventually bit the dust. She can still access the download screen via 1+power buttons but other than that her phone won't turn on. Now, thats not the problem. I can fix that. The problem is that she had very important text messages in her phone and we're trying to see if there's a way to retrieve them before I "unbrick" her phone. has anyone found a way to pull info off the phone before undergoing restoration and deleting everything? I apologize in advance if the answer is already on here somewhere. I searched and came up with nothing in our forums except for the text message history viewer on sprints website that is no longer there and besidesm even if it was, these texts are from around christmas. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
I think you're pretty much stuck. I had the same problem once and never managed to get it working. If you can somehow make a backup of the messed up system that would be great. If the phone is stock, I don't think there's a way to do that.

no, there's not. I thought of that too. I was wondering if maybe i plug the phone into my computer maybe there's something that can take everything from the phone and copy it to my computer? or even just view the system folders in hopes that I can get the text messages that way but i dunno if that's even possible.
No. She's screwed. Tell her to back up next time.

OUCH! When I give people bad news I at least hand them a bottle of petroleum jelly first! Yes this is an attempt to make a very dry (or is that wet) joke! Sorry had to.
On topic I don't know if you can mount the system w/adb once it is in that state and k0nane would know more and if he is saying no I doubt it.
I am by no means an expert but... could you odin in the recovery, get into CWM, make a backup, extract the data image, pull the messaging data and then restore after getting the phone functional?

Wouldn't that just reflash the recovery partition? OP: Try this if you haven't just reOdin'ed yet. It wouldn't damage the messages any more than they already are.

That is what I was going for, just overwriting the recovery partition like you would for rooting GB. You could even try to bring it back to life by flashing a kernel and see if it would boot. Neither of those operations should delete data.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I agree with the above. Don't odin it, try reflashing the recovery partition, nandroid everything to sd, THEN unbrick, restore data.

Try the nandroid restore and see if that works. U should be able to get into cwm

Make sure you tell her that her boyfriend still loves her even though the text no longer exists.
Download google voice from the market and you should see your texts there. For whatever reason, all my texts have been saved even though I've wiped my phone many times for different ROMs.

I am screwed, am I?

So i'll make it short, my friend accidently deleted a folder of my DCIM and most of my pics taken and not yet backed up is gone.
I've searched for recovery softwares and all of them require a mass storage mounted to recover them. so with Gnex uses MTP, i am totally screwed am I?
Does anyone have any linux method to mount this thing, and recover the files? Got many pics and 3 videos in it.
I feel like crying...
are you on mac?
IDK if you are screwed, but if you had a dropbox account and beta app - it automatically uploads your pictures to drop box...
It is actually an official app now.

For future reference, leave auto-upload on, but only let it upload on WiFi. That way you get some backup happening still....

Thanks man. I really do hope we can mount USB storage on Gnex someday. though it has low probability of happening.
Would really love to see that happen in the near future. But as someone suggested, leave it to wi-fi only. I have that set up and you won't even have to worry about anything. All automatic from there. Haven't tried dropbox yet, but I might. I'll let you know how it works if you want.
i set it up both. just in case~

[Q] Lost my phone last night :(

I lost my phone last night (yes I'm an idiot). Tried installing Plan B this morning but it doesn't appear to work on Jelly Bean
I'm running 4.1.1 rooted. Phone has password lock on it.
Are there any alternatives I could explore before my battery completely dies and I'm completely screwed?
Also, for future reference, what are the best apps for locating devices? I miss "Find my iPhone"
Thanks y'all

At the end of the day, my job can remote wipe the phone, plus I have a password that's not 1234, so I'm not concerned about my data being compromised, I just want the damn phone back. I love/need wi-fi hotspot (it's amazing for work)
