[Q] Lost my phone last night :( - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I lost my phone last night (yes I'm an idiot). Tried installing Plan B this morning but it doesn't appear to work on Jelly Bean
I'm running 4.1.1 rooted. Phone has password lock on it.
Are there any alternatives I could explore before my battery completely dies and I'm completely screwed?
Also, for future reference, what are the best apps for locating devices? I miss "Find my iPhone"
Thanks y'all

Can a thief just go ahead and do a complete wipe and you're not completely helpless?

At the end of the day, my job can remote wipe the phone, plus I have a password that's not 1234, so I'm not concerned about my data being compromised, I just want the damn phone back. I love/need wi-fi hotspot (it's amazing for work)

Switching Carrier and Phone need help getting data

I am switching both carriers and phones. I am moving from ATT with the SG2 to T-Mobile to the SG2.
I have invested tons of time setting up my ATT version and loads of data in my apps. I am not worried about the Mail/Exchange part I realize I will need to redo that part. What I am hoping someone can help me with a way to move over is the following: (Also I am NOT ROOTED)
1. Touchwiz screens
2. Application data from Market downloaded apps
I realize I can reinstall the apps but the data from the apps is my issue. I track expenses etc using several apps.
TIA,
ED

a couple of things re: data
as far as emails goes, if you are hooked up to Exchange Server or Gmail
your email resides on the server side, and stays there.
but if you are using POP3 emails that have been downloaded to the phone and removed from the server, then you will be stuck, unless you get Titanium Backup (which needs root) to migrate the emails over to the new phone

Well thats not the answer I was hoping for. I would prefer to not root install Titanium and reflash since I am returning the SG2 back to ATT. I don't want something to go wrong.
I'm still hoping for a better answer.

[Q][Oddball] Google Wallet Can't Add Prepaid

Hello
I recently got my Galaxy Nexus and I am trying to use Google Wallet but running into a problem I haven't seen yet (A search revealed 1 other person with the problem but was able to resolve by wiping data from the app. This didn't work for me.)
I am running 4.0.4 AKOP build 29. I am unlocked and rooted. Wallet version 1.1-R52v7.
The app installs just fine. I have it linked to my google account. However, I cannot add a Google Prepaid card. It attempts to add for ~ 1min, then says, "Error adding card. Try again later."
I tried uninstalling / reinstalling. I tried the previous version. I also tried wiping the data from the app itself. Nothing has worked so far
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone? I'm very anxious to use GWallet!
You need to use a US credit card. View the adding funds thread for instructions that usually work.
Google wallet won't work if your rooted. Very disappointing.

Rubbish ... It works fine.. You just get a banner warning that it's on an "unsupported device".

I am located in the US. I also don't have the option to add funds because it will not allow me to add a prepaid card.

I have this banner. I simply used superSU to get rid of it, so the phone it thinks it does not have root. However, with/without superSU it still does not allow me to add a prepaid card
Can anyone else shed some light on this?
Anyone? I'm so close I can feel it!
Mine does the same. Idk wtf is going on. It worked before on my other nexus.

So I called Google, they connected me to the money network. Guy took a quick look. It is something on their end nothing to do with my phone. He can see my IMEI trying to activate but erroring out.Was escalated to T2 tech support and I am waiting on a phone call back.
They called me back. Had me reset the app. Still nothing worked. This has been escalated now to T3 tech support. I was told I would get a call back tomorrow :-/
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Did u reset the app before you wiped data sounds like you didn't and have been locked out. If so you will need a new phone

Just out of curiosity, has your IMEI number maybe reverted to Samsung's default number?
Reason I ask is because that happened to me while using my Nexus S and I had the same issue you're having.

I'm also experiencing this issue. So frustrating! I used to have Wallet on my phone...but I tried to reset it to get the extra $5 and haven't been able to get it back up and running since. That's what I get for being greedy!
If anyone has any ideas...it would be greatly appreciated. I've done almost everything: reset app, clear cache, uninstalled, installed older versions....cant get it for the life of me!

What do you mean Samsung's default number? I have came to the general conclusion that it something to do with the Money Network. They are blocking my phone, my IMEI, from connecting. I was able to login with my Google account on another phone just perfectly and get my prepaid card.

I can open the app just find. It initializes, lets me sign in, make my PIN code, just not add a prepaid card. And I have wiped the data from in the app multiple times trying to get it to work

Me too, I want this working so bad! Hopefully T3 tech support can help me out. I feel like all that they need to do is reset/unblock/do something, with my IMEI number on their end.

A while back I flashed a ROM to my Nexus S that corrupted my nv_data.bin file which in turn changed my original IMEI to Samsung's generic's. (004999010640000)
After that happened I was unable to re-use Wallet because Money Network's service will not allow that IMEI to work in their system, for obvious reasons.
Check the IMEI on your phone's back cover or box and compare it to the one in your Android's system. Hopefully they match. There's no solutions for the Nexus S currently. You'd have to send it back to Samsung. Good luck.
This happened to me even after Google fixed the provisioning of the Prepaid Card. I just kept Removing and Adding the Card. Eventually, after a couple of days it fixed itself. Try Resetting the App, Deleting Data, uninstalling, and then re-installing.
Money network finally got it working for me. I believe they did a master reset. It now works

Does a hard reset also erase internal memory. Like photos and video stored on the internal memory?
It won't delete personal files like pictures and videos, make sure to back up your contacts though. All your apps and data on the apps will be deleted (however Google backs up some data on apps and they will be reinstalled when you set up your gmail account again.)

hard reset should do the trick. like other users have already stated, you will not lose pictures, videos, etc but you will lose apps and stuff like that.

Im stock (Bell) and it works flawless.

Can't update my phone in any way

Hey guys, I'm new here, so this thread is probably on here somewhere, but oh well. I can't update my S3 OTA or through Kies. I know there is an update, as my friend got it fine on his yesterday (it's the one with the brightness slider in notification center). On OTA, it says communication failed every single time, then says up to date. I have tried clearing data and all that as well. And in Kies, it also says I have the latest firmware, even though I know I don't. Any ideas? I really don't want this happening when Jelly Bean comes out. Oh yeah, I'm not rooted or anything by the way, I'm still on stock for now.
I have the same exact issue. I think it has something to do with ATT and the phone not being set up right in their system. Did you by chance have an iPhone before your S3 and use the same Sim card?
Mine wouldn't find the ota on the phone. I searched around here and found a thread someone had started that has instructions on how to download the flashable zip and install it via CWM. Worked like a champ. If you are rooted this is the way you'll want to go

Yes I did come from an iPhone. And I am planning to root soon so I might have to try that.

Hey do you mind giving me instructions on how to do that? And is there a safe way to root my phone on a Mac? And last of all, can I still get updates such as Jelly Bean on a rooted GS3 without losing root without messing anything up? Sorry I'm coming from iPhones and jailbreaking so I'm not familiar with all this.

I've always recommended returning whatever device you have back to 100% stock (as it was out of the box) before taking any official updates. I've heard ppl say they can take them just fine while still rooted - but they lose root. Sometimes you can simply re-root, sometimes you have to wait for a new exploit to be discovered before you can root again. In light of this, I always wait a week (sometimes less) after a new OTA (Over The Air) update is released, just to be sure I can regain root immediately. Welcome to the wonderful world of Android OS!!!
[edit] to answer your post about not being able to take the last OTA update. Have you tried a factory reset? Through Android Recovery? You will lose personal settings and contacts if you dont back them up. But, it may solve your update issue. Another thing I know, that a lot of ppl do is - as soon as you buy a new device, such as the awesome Galaxy S III, is to immediately do the factory reset. (Who knows how many employees have goofed around with the new toys they just got in stock)
I had the same problem with not being able to get the OTA update on my S3. Turns out it was a bad sim. As soon as I got a new sim from AT&T everything worked fine. Wish I would have done that first cause I spent hours on the phone with AT&T and Samsung trying to fix the problem. Good luck. Hope that works for you.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Same issue here. Just spent a couple hours this Saturday at an AT&T store - end result is that they are swapping it out under the manufacture 1 year warranty.
Sim replacement did not fix it for me.
Tech support over the the stores land line says that the option to push OTA to phone is greyed out and not selectable with my account.
They are sending me a new phone so we'll see.

Just did a factory reset, and it didn't help at all. Now I've got to get everything back on my phone. Coming from iPhone, I will say that Apple has a heck of a lot better backup system. I do 0refer my GS3 though. Ok so any suggestions now?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
you've tried to update over cell network AND WiFi... correct? same error each time?
I'm not sure what else to suggest except trying a new sim card like someone else suggested... beyond that, a replacement device. Sorry man, wish I could be more useful...
[edit] The only other thing I can think to try would be to completely remove all your current USB Drivers for Samsung from your PC and reboot the PC, then re-install the USB Drivers, and try Kies again. If it still doesn't work, try a different PC.
Well I'm going to try a different computer, and if that doesn't work, I'm going to an AT&T store. Thanks for all the help guys.

[HOW TO] Google Android Device Manager - Device Tracker (Security)

From Google...
"Have you ever lost your phone in between the couch cushions or forgot it in a restaurant? Or maybe searching for your phone before you rush out the door is part of your morning routine? Let the new Android Device Manager help you out! It's one of a few simple features you can use to keep your device—and the data you store inside—safe and secure.
Locate and ring your misplaced device
If you ended up dropping your phone between those couch cushions, Android Device Manager lets you quickly ring your phone at maximum volume so you can find it, even if it's been silenced. And in the event that your phone or tablet is out of earshot (say, at that restaurant you left it at last night), you can locate it on a map in real time.
Protecting your personal information and data
While losing your phone can be stressful, Android Device Manager can help you keep your data from ending up in the wrong hands. If your phone can’t be recovered, or has been stolen, you can quickly and securely erase all of the data on your device.
Availability and getting started
This service is now available on devices running Android 2.2 or above; to use it, you also will need to be signed into your Google Account. There will also be an Android app to allow you to easily find and manage your devices. Stay tuned!"
How to start using
*note: This is not a standalone app. Google is pushing the update in batches so you may not have access to it yet.
1. Navigate to Settings > Security > Device Administrators and check the box Android Device Manager and hit activate
2. Check to see if access to Android Device Manager is in your Google Settings application.
3. Go here on your computer's web browser and test it.
If you don't see access to it in your Google Settings app, its likely that the feature is not yet available to you.

I currently have disabled this feature. Too nervous about someone else being able to remotely wipe my phone.

I've just always questioned the practicality of tracking apps since GPS is notoriously poor through obstructions.

I have had very little success with Android Device Manager on my wife's HTC One X. And in fact, it seems to be these find-my-phone apps in general, since Cerberus can also not locate her device 90% of the time either.
She's current running Maximus HD, and before that, Cyanogenmod 10.1 and 10.2.
If I was a betting man, I would say that the problem is that the phone is going into a deep-sleep and not responding to GCM requests. Any ideas at all?
Power Button + Vol- then go to recovery choose wipe -> factory reset Lol
smartboy_anu, thank you for this information. I tested it with my HOX (ARHD 31.2), and it's working. :good:
My comment here is - this is very handy and convenient, but I find it really scary! There goes our privacy to the toilet.
