Help! S-On and Radio_V2 - Fail PU during upgrading - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi friends
I am junior here. Hope you will help me to finish my job. I received htc desire with 4 exclamation mark on each corner and no hboot menu anymore. I tried to upload different RUU but failed , finally I decide to repair it with Riff box and put supercid in it. But every time when I rung RUU 4 triangles came again. At last I repaired with riff again and now i extract rom.zip file RUU and run it in gold card but fail flashing at " Radio_V2 - Fail PU" .
I really getting mad and no point come to hand from where to start to finish this big headache . I extract and flash following files in SD card.
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
HTC_Desire_Android_2.3_Upgrade.
Its not getting into recover mode
its details are as follow.
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 1.02.0001(which was 0.93.000 after repair with riff)
Radio-4.06.00.02_2
pls brothers help me to the correct point. I will highly appreciate it. thanks

S-ON = Security ON...... which means you cant modify or rewrite in SYSTEM PROTECTED areas....
The hboot / partition table changing requires S-OFF, and Radio flashing is also writing data to SYSTEM AREAS.... So first follow a tutorial to get S-OFF, using revolutionery preferably.... Then try to upgrade Radio....

bro I am 100% agree with you but will gold card and supercid will not work as S-Off in flashing?
plus in revolutionary method , to gain s-off your phone must go to in main normal window otherwise it will not work.
any other solution?

Listen, if your hboot version is 1.02, revolutionary is the only method which will work.....if you have older, use unrevoked........
To get new hboot, go to htc dev, download 2.3 gb ruu, and run it.....follow instruction, you'll get new hboot, now use simply revolutionary, it will work guaranteed....

Try couple of times 2.3.3 ruu as only option... If still radio brick, try freezer trick (put phone into bag and into freezer to cool down) then try ruu if no working unfortunately this is the dead end
Sent from my Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e

Pvt 1 model is well known for overheating mobo, maybe That is the cause of radiobrick

Try changing data cable, it once happened to me during hboot flash.... Try it and tell....

[Error 152] image update error

Hello everybody,
I have a huge problem with my Desire : I cannot install any Ruu on it and I have the "error 152 : image update error". I tried and read many things but the probleme is that the phone is S-ON. So I cannot install a recovery image and cannot either access to the fastboot because I don't have one (I only have "RUU" on my screen).
So when I try to install the Ruu.exe I get this message :

Contact HTC. Looks like a radio brick and if it is only they can fix it. You were updating to 2.3.3 so this should be covered by warranty.

Then why do you have the new HBOOT which was in the Official DEVLEOPER 2.3 update ?
You need to use Revolutionary.io (root/s-off), then flash the downgrader from alpharev.nl and you can try an older RUU.
The phone needs to boot to s-off

yup, phones bricked. Call HTC they *should* give you a new one.
Thank you for your replies.
I'm in Tunisia. I've bought it last year from France and my guarrantee is over
I cannot dot it with revolutionary because the pone is not detected but the computer even if my drivers are installed.
Should be a 2 year warranty but not sure if its from another country. You should contact HTC and see what they say

HTC Desire GSM stucks on 4 triangles screen

Hi all,
I have a big problem with my desire. I was unable to start my desire (S-ON, never rooted) so I have decided to downlod RUU:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
booted in fastboot with vol- + power and ran the above file but the process has failed so I had to reboot and since that moment I don't have fastboot menu anymore and I just see the 4 triangles screen. I can still connect phone to PC (windows 7) and run RUU file but everytime it fails with 152 error and "Radio_V2 Fail-PU" error (I can see the RUU process when I disconnect the USB cable, when I connect the cable again the RUU disappear and I see again the black screen with HTC and 4 triangles). I have also tried RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe but no lucks.
Any suggestion on how to get my desire working again?
any help is really really appreciated,
many thanks

Thanks for your response. I have followed the guide above, point "[4]RUU PROBLEMS", S-ON solution, but I still cannot flash the RUU. I am stuck on HTC logo with "4" triangles and I get always the same error:

Guess what - i have the exact same problem!
However if i go through the recovery procedure, sometimes the Radio image flashes ok, however during boot up, the phone is stuck on the htc white start up screen. If i flash the RUU again, i end up with the radio error.

Radio-bricks are currently unfixable. Unless one can flash 2.3.3 RUU, which is the last hope.
Tried 2.3.3 RUU but nothing changed...I have tried everything I can think of!
I pulled my old Desire out of a draw yesterday as I need it as a test device - Exactly the same situation with RADIO_V2 - FAIL-PU
I've tried so many different RUUs, but all fail... Stumped after hours and hours of messing and searching.
If anyone manages to resolve this without returning to HTC, please do post!
same here...
alas
also have same problem
tried all...
also posted about it here
no go....
hope someone can fix this..
funny thing is :
was using botrak's troubleshooting guide
and it was there that was suggested to flash android 2.3 gingerbread ruu
i think that should be mentioned to be condemned
because once you flash that you can NOT downgrade again if anything goes wrong
as is obvious from our cases!!
really hope someone cracks this!
fastboot oem boot <- That command boots the phone friends.

You can try flashing an individual standalone radio image from those that rom cookers provide in dev thread

For anyone who is looking for the solution or a similiar one.. just install all the drivers on the net for the htc desire (at least i installed everything i could find). Go to htcdev.com website, register for free, and get a copy of the ruu for desire gingerbread. Attach the phone to the pc, turn it on, wait until the pc recognizes the phone and get the ruu_xxx.exe running. Solved!
Hope I came useful to some one.
Another way: Relock bootloader
PHP:
fastboot oem lock
and then install the corect RUU

[Q] HTC Desire boot up issue

Hi All,
I have been asked by a friend to have a look at their Desire which isn't booting up, i've tried searching the forums but am at a bit of a dead end.
Basically when powering up the phone it goes to a white screen with the green htc logo and stays like this indefinitely.
I can however boot into HBOOT and it gives me the following info:
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Jul 22 2011, 16:19:16
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
When I try to boot into RECOVERY it goes back to the white screen with htc logo.
When I try CLEAR STORAGE the problem remains.
I can go into FASTBOOT and this does change to FASTBOOT USB when I plug it into the USB port.
So because it's S-ON this means I can't push a recovery image via command prompt right?
I've tried downloading: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.14_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_224699_signed.exe from shipped-roms.com, extracting ROM.zip and changing the name to PB99IMG.ZIP and putting it into the root of my sd cards (4GB and 16GB kingstons) but when I boot the phone into HBOOT i get the following:
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
and a progress bar loads, then
Checking..[PB99IMG.zip]
followed by the following message:
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
I've tried turning my SD card into a gold card but I presume this has failed if I'm getting that message?
Has anybody got any pointers? Is the phone bricked?
Any help is much appreciated...

OK, I think I've successfully created the goldcard now, was using the wrong CID!
I transferred the same PB99IMG.zip to the root of the goldcard and booted into HBOOT. It loaded again and failed with the following message:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
What does this mean? Am I using the wrong PB99IMG.zip or something?
Is there any way to actually check that the creation of the goldcard was successful? Or does the fact that this is a different message mean that it's passed the CID check?

Cheers, so how do I get from where I am now to flashing a custom ROM?
I see from the 1st link you posted it says (if phone is S-ON):
S-ON
"I'm S-ON, I can't boot recovery, and my phone doesn't boot "
This is a bit of a worse situation, as you cannot flash system critical parts such as the recovery image and just restore a backup. This unfortunately means that you will lose all of your data when you attempt to fix the phone.
[STEP1]- Make sure that you have a goldcard. If not, create one from the tutorial.
[STEP2]- Battery pull. Hold the BACK button and the POWER button to boot into FASTBOOT mode.
[STEP3]- Download the latest WWE RUU from here
[STEP4]- Run the RUU and wait for completion WARNING: DO NOT, BY ANY CIRCUMSTANCES INTERRUPT THE PROCESS - THIS WILL MORE THAN LIKELY END UP WITH A BRICKED PHONE - NOT EVEN IF GOD HIMSELF TELLS YOU TO DO SO, OR IF THE US PRESIDENT THREATENS YOU WITH THERMO-NUCLEAR WAR
[STEP5]- Once the phone is booted, you are now returned completely to stock. You will need to re-root again, and I'd recommend S-OFF
Not sure about step 4 here?
that ruu is an exe file so with ur phone plugged in via usb just run the file (double click it) on ur computer. just follow all bortaks instructions
and ur goldcard works its fine

OK, I ran the 2.3 RUU and it seemed to do the trick. I could then turn the phone on but it seems a lot slower than I'm used to.
I've now rooted it and have S-OFF using revolutionary. Now it boots OK most of the time but as soon as I enter my PIN to unlock the SIM it reboots, and half the time when it reboots it seems to get stuck in a boot loop and gets quite warm.
I have a feeling there may be some underlying hardware issue at the heart of this problem.
Will try a custom ROM next and see if it makes any difference.

I did a very, very stupid thing. Help!?

Sending back my Desire to HTC for repair due to constant rebooting issues. Wanted to put stock ROM back on, unroot and S-ON it but somehow managed to be a total retard and just ran the RUU relevant to my phone. Having rooted it and going through several custom ROMs previously (most recently supreme1.2), I am disappointed that I didn't use my brain in this case, and now I have to salvage it.
So. My Desire.

I can boot into either HBOOT or FASTBOOT, however it will not boot into recovery. I have used both methods listed for S-OFF in [2]: ADVANCED BOOT PROBLEMS in bortak's troubleshooting thread (why didn't I start by reading the forums!), both claiming to be successful, however I still cannot boot into recovery.
I would very much appreciate any help. I am hoping that the fact I can boot to FASTBOOT of HBOOT will allow me to somehow fix this, but so far I have been unable to work out how.
I understand I am worthy of flaming heavily right now, so do knock yourselves out, as long as someone has a suggestion for me...

I was looking at running the downgrader but hadn't gotten round to it yet. I will give that a go. Is the 2.3 RUU you mention available on shippedroms do you know?
Yes it is, but I heard a few problems that people had with version from shipped roms. In my signature you have the explanation how to get it from htcdev.
Yeah, I did those things and I now have a fully functional unrooted s-on desire, that crashes intermittently all the freaking time. Just like before!
Gonna send it back to HTC, wasn't keen on this line of the email they sent me "Bear in mind though, should our engineers determine that the fault you are experiencing is caused by physical damage, wear and tear or illegal software, it will not be covered by warranty." mind.
We shall see what happens. Thanks for the help though.
Don't worry, I sent mine 2 week ago, but because of buttons. I just flashed 2.3 with downgrader, got s-on, and got my phone repaired in warranty.

If you have Alpharev or Revolutionary hboot with stock partition layout it is write protected and if you run ruu you will have your phine working properly but you will still have the same hboot and s-off, also the radio won't be overwritten.
So, if you're sending your phone to HTC with warranty s-on is inevitable.

[TUT] Downgrade your Desire/Bravo HBOOT from 1.02.0001 to 0.93.0001

Hi,
This is how you downgrade a Desire/Bravo with the HBOOT 1.02.0001 already installed, - this method is appropriate for people who need to downgrade the HBOOT for unlock purposes. I struggled for ages on this and once I found the method thought i'd post it around the internet as I couldn't find this info anywhere.
-Summary of steps-
1)Turn S-Off + Update HBOOT
2)Downgrade HBOOT to 0.93.0001 (Turns S-ON)
I have personally tested this and it worked perfectly without any problems. However flashing anything to your phone is done at your own risk, & I accept no responsability for your device.
--Step 1--
Download and run the Revolutionary tool here http://revolutionary.io/ to turn S-Off - Follow the steps on their website for how to do this if you get stuck.
Once you have run the Revolutionary tool, when it asks if you want to install the Clockworkmod recovery press no.
You will now have an S-Off phone running HBOOT 6.93.1002
--Step 2--
Format a microSD card, download the following zip file and save it to your memory card.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/dyyn35zm07x2x7a/PB99IMG.zip LINK UPDATED 2 JAN 2013
You should now have a single file on your memory card named PB99IMG.zip
--Step 3--
Put the microSD card back in your phone and hold 'VOL+DOWN + ACTION' and press the power button to get to the HBOOT menu. Wait around 10 seconds (give or take) and the phone will detect the update and ask you to install it, Select yes to install then reboot your phone back into the HBOOT menu.
You will now have an S-On phone with the 0.93.0001 HBOOT
--Step4-- IF THIS STEP APPLIES TO YOU FOR UNLOCKING
Unlock with XTC-Clip as you normally would - Creating goldcard with 0.93.X001 HBOOT.
Your phone will now be unlocked.[/QUOTE]
NOTE: You can do the official updates through the phone as normal without loosing your unlock
Hope you find this info useful
what ruu (PB99IMG) is it?
what if someone has an orange branded phone, coz there is no ruu for it and they would need a goldcard.
what about people from different regions coz theres different ruu's for different regions aswell and they would need a gold card.
edit: its a hboot.img, thought it was an ruu.
did u try this yet? does it work?
normaly when u change hboots u have to format partitions. if u go to the trouble of getting s-off then why not just run the correct ruu for ur device, just to be safe.

Hi,
It souldn't matter what network the phone is on - The HBoot was taken from a WWE RUU & I tested it with a UK Vodaphone branded desire which worked. I used this method to unlock a 1.02.0001 phone which isnt supported by xtc hence the downgrade needed. You shouldn't need a goldcard for the downgrade part as running the revolutionary tool will switch s-off, after applying the downgraded hboot it will turn s-on but as you will be on the old 0.93.0001 hboot you can just create the goldcard with xtc and complete the unlock if this step applies to you - it probably does as I dont know another reason for downgrading to this HBOOT.
Running the downgrade will wipe the phone - it did atleast with mine.
The reason I couldnt run an RUU to downgrade the hboot after turning s-off is because revolutionarys tool adds some protection to prevent hboot flashing via RUU & fastboot. The only way I could find to do it was to flash it directly from the SD card.
As for the other regions you may be right and need a local hboot - I'm not able to test this as I only ever get UK phones to unlock. If it is the case the HBOOT which you want to downgrade to can always be extracted from a local RUU and added to your own update.zip (named correctly of course) - The network branded phones on the other hand should make no difference - as s is off, so a UK orange, vodafone etc will take the hboot from WWE RUU aslong as s is off. (This is why its neccessary to run revolutionary first)
Hope this info helps.
cool. just so u know to unlock the hboot 6.93.1002 u have to flash the Alpharev downgrader img, that way it can be overwritten by an ruu

Hi,
Thanks for mensioning that, I did actually run the Alpharev downgrader as part of the process but completely forgot to add that step ( I wrote the tutorial after doing it not during ) With me though after running the alpharev downgrade the hboot still wouldnt downgrade from the ruu - also tried manually flashing with fastboot but got various errors (something to do with usb something or other - maby it was just my usb's playing up again as they occasionaly do) so for me I still had to do the sd card way but if you find it works for you with the ruu then even better.
For anyone getting stuck, do this step after running revolutionary - Just download the Bravo Downgrader from here http://alpharev.nl/ and run it before continuing with the rest of the steps.
i always use PB99IMG awsell, my laptop dont like my phone haha

desire with broken volume keys
hi friends, I found a HTC Desire bravo at the flee market and bought it thinking it is actually a nexus-one... a nice phone with lots of nice futures in it after a charging session the phone boot up and it was alive back again. with one problem the volume keys was not working.. ı dismantled it and cleaned up as it is described in xda forums and didn't worked so i made a little check and found the thin foil attaching the volume keys to the main board was broken since there is no way to fix it without changing the main board and i had no intention to pay lots of money on it i left it like that with one problem; no way to boot in to recovery from start... after couple of days i found i didn't liked the rom on it i decided to change it, there was no problem since i could boot it to recovery using the restart menu which the ROM had since it was rooted but i made a mistake and fell in to a boot lope the only way to boot it back was the adb commands but phone couldn't start up so no debugging mode only fast boot so i tried many fast boot commands to boot in to recovery with no success after searching forums i found lots of desire bravos around with the same problem.. so i used ruu to reboot it properly the only ruu worked for me was the official 2.3.3 update ruu ''RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe'' the phone booted and working now but no s off and no root and there was no way to root it without the volume up and down keys i was stuck with the useless unrooted rom so here how i rooted the phone without the volume keys first you have to download ''DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip'' and run it in USB debugging mode after that you have a working recovery partition to install a recovery bin using fastboot or what ever( the problem was after the update i lost the phones recovery partition and couldn't get the state s-off even i am s-off there was no recovery partition... since i am not good at commands to re format the boot loader this could be a life saver so i decided to share my experience... afterwards you can boot into recovery since you have a recovery partition you can push any recovery to your phone i think zergrush tool is not intended to use with bravo that why no body mentioned it in the bravo forums ops i forgot the say i used alphadevs methods and software to gain s-off on my phone before using zergrush i hope this will hwlp people like me stucked with non fonctioning volume keys
