I did a very, very stupid thing. Help!? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sending back my Desire to HTC for repair due to constant rebooting issues. Wanted to put stock ROM back on, unroot and S-ON it but somehow managed to be a total retard and just ran the RUU relevant to my phone. Having rooted it and going through several custom ROMs previously (most recently supreme1.2), I am disappointed that I didn't use my brain in this case, and now I have to salvage it.
So. My Desire.
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.06.00.02_2
I can boot into either HBOOT or FASTBOOT, however it will not boot into recovery. I have used both methods listed for S-OFF in [2]: ADVANCED BOOT PROBLEMS in bortak's troubleshooting thread (why didn't I start by reading the forums!), both claiming to be successful, however I still cannot boot into recovery.
I would very much appreciate any help. I am hoping that the fact I can boot to FASTBOOT of HBOOT will allow me to somehow fix this, but so far I have been unable to work out how.
I understand I am worthy of flaming heavily right now, so do knock yourselves out, as long as someone has a suggestion for me...

u should flash alpharev downgrader first then 2.3 ruu from htcdev which does'nt require goldcard

I was looking at running the downgrader but hadn't gotten round to it yet. I will give that a go. Is the 2.3 RUU you mention available on shippedroms do you know?

Yes it is, but I heard a few problems that people had with version from shipped roms. In my signature you have the explanation how to get it from htcdev.

Yeah, I did those things and I now have a fully functional unrooted s-on desire, that crashes intermittently all the freaking time. Just like before!
Gonna send it back to HTC, wasn't keen on this line of the email they sent me "Bear in mind though, should our engineers determine that the fault you are experiencing is caused by physical damage, wear and tear or illegal software, it will not be covered by warranty." mind.
We shall see what happens. Thanks for the help though.

Don't worry, I sent mine 2 week ago, but because of buttons. I just flashed 2.3 with downgrader, got s-on, and got my phone repaired in warranty.

You only use downgrader if you have oxygen r2 or cm7r2 hboots.. or am I missing something?

If you have Alpharev or Revolutionary hboot with stock partition layout it is write protected and if you run ruu you will have your phine working properly but you will still have the same hboot and s-off, also the radio won't be overwritten.
So, if you're sending your phone to HTC with warranty s-on is inevitable.

I never had to run RUU ever so I don't know. Lol.

another brick question

First off, I apologies for asking what might be an apparently obvious question but I'm stuck
I've read that if you can do anything with your phone then its not bricked. Well I can't seem to get into bootloader, recovery or fastboot when I turn the phone on I always get a black screen with apostrophes in each corner and HTC in the middle.
I can issue fastboot commands through USB and I can run ruu's from the PC but they always fail at the end of writing system.
Problem is I'm trying to get a warrenty return (which is why I was unrooting) and the only time I see a different screen is after running the ruu and unplugging the USB. This gives me a white screen that shows alpharev and clearly gives the game away that the phones been rooted.
So is this technically a brick? And if not, is there a way put of this?
What hboot u have? Stock? Alpharev cm/oxygen?

It was/is alpharev cm (the second one)
Flash the bravo downgrader hboot from alpharev, after the ruu.

Thanks, but how do I flash it if I can't get into recovery or anything or is it like the original alpharev thing?

OK thanks, so when I'm on the screen with just HTC on it I issue the fastboot command and then rerun the ruu?
Just to clarify (and perhaps help anyone else in this state), is this because of a change in alpharev that prevents the ruu changing tthe hboot? Because last time I returned my phone I followed the instructions that simple said to run the ruu so I'm presuming something has changed.
thanks for your help. All back up and running now.

Help restoring HTC Desire to stock

I have a HTC Desire (Bravo), rooted and running CyanogeMod 7.1:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
I understand there are several threads about restoring, but I am wondering about these specific versions and S-ON. Can anyone please advise is it safe to use
PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip
to restore to stock? Can I just copy it as PB99IMG.zip on a SD card, hold down and flash via HBOOT?
I am sincerely grateful for any help!
Hello! to revert your phone back to stock you need the RUU, you can grab the HTC desire android 2.3 ruu here:http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Unzip it, run the program, follow the instructions and BANG your s-on no root total stock htc desire
Use the latest 2.2 RUU instead of the 2.3 DEVELOPER RUU, because aside having 127MB internal memory it brings nothing much more.

Pick up a 2.2 RUU, because the 2.3 RUU for Desire is without warranty.
Actually HTC honour warranty on 2.3

Really? Hmm.. I though that not, because HTC said that is only at own risk.
But maybe you´re right
Hi there. Similar - but different - question. Water damage. Phone went to insurers. They fixed it and sent it back 8 weeks ago. I downloaded and installed 2.3 from htcdev. Seemed to work ok for some weeks. Now battery almost useless....it runs out in less than half a day. It was fine before it went. I can't start camera app or camcorderor any camera-dependent apps. I also dont see charging light when phone connected. Question(s) is do you think it's the 2.3 update or is it symptoms of previous damage - water? Should I roll back update or would the insurers accept it with 2.3? If htc accept 2.3 then insurer should too no?
Oh and to roll back to 2.2 can I just flash stock 2.2 WWE? Unlocked unbranded Desire
Charging light work when phone off? If not, hardware

I have tried to run the program and i seems to work untill it's waiting for the bootloader. It keeps saying waiting for bootloader and after a while my phone just reboots and comes with an USB connection error. Can somebody help me ?

Returning to Stock Help Needed

Hi All,
Returning missus Desire back to stock and have searched and found many guides..
following through, I'm basically installing the following RUU from .EXE file:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe
The phone was previously on Orange and I understand there is no RUU for this.
Upon installing this EXE...it gets to the area about checking the phone and intialising and all I get everytime is an Error 170 USB Connection Error. It can't seem to see the phone.
I am on XP and have tried the phone booted in to its current ROM (ICS) and also under FASTBOOT USB but neither makes any difference...
Any ideas?
Many thanks...
Rich
You're missing proper drivers on your PC. Try to download and install htc sync or driver package from htc dev site and then to reconnect phone.

Thanks....Ive installed HTC Sync and now worked fine...
Although I believe I am now stuck on the white HTC screen Whoops!!!
Any ideas?

HBOOT 6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
Touch Panel - SYNT0101
Radio 4.05.00.11
Any ideas???

That's not recovery, that's bootloader. Below that you have meny loking smth like this:
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
ERASE STORAGE...
You can use volume up and down buttons to navigate, highlight recovery and then press power to enter recovery.
If you wanna install stock, reboot your phone and let RUU running. My recomendation is to use 2.3 RUU since it's made for all versions of desire no matter of carrier. You can find it on htc dev site.

Well I have put back the stock HBOOT....
installed a RUU which now just gives me a white HTC screen and goes no further....
I downloaded the 2.3.3 correct RUU but it won't see my device and HTC sync won't install the drivers.
Any ideas folks?
Rich
Oh my BOOTLOADER now says this:
ALPHAREV
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT 6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
Radio 4.05.00.11
And also...within Device Manager my phone is being picked up as Android Bootloader Interface
Ok, this is the trick, your hboot has write protection and ruu can't overwrite radio. From your bootloader I can see you have old radio which won't work with 2.3 RUU. Of course RUU should overwrite the radio during install but it's not posible because of protected hboot...
You have to download downgrade hboot from alpharev site, flash it and you will have unlocked hboot. After that run RUU from PC and it will overwrite both radio and hboot.
But, you will lose s-off and root, so revolutionary again :-D
And don't worry about what's written in device manager, it's normal.

Thanks Nloo for taking an interest...
|I have already flashed Bravo Stock off the Alpharev site .... you can see in my post a change in the HBOOT information from Revolutionary to ALPHArev.....
If I try using the RUU it just says it can't find the Phone again.....USB error 170....
Any more help would be appreciated please...bricked phone!!

You actually don't want to read carefully, not stock bravo but DOWNGRADE that's the right one. After flashing you'll have this on top in bootloader:
ALPHAREV UNLOCK
not just alpharev.
Then after flashing reboot to bootloader not fastboot and then run RUU.
If RUU won't work you can try with rom.zip on sd card but that's a different story.

[Q] Deeply confused by unbrick attempt - can anyone help ?

Hi All,
Apologies in advance... I'm a noob.
Well for a long time I was a happy camper running the excellent Marange MIUI ROMs on my HTC desire (which had been replaced by a PVT4 motherboard version). This was S-OFF and running HBOOT 0.93... but then one day a couple of months ago I got into a boot loop where all I got was the MIUI boot logo... not really a loop more just stuck at the logo.
So I tried several clueless attempts to reimage using the TeamWin TWRP boot loader... but nothing I did worked. So after several failed RUU attempts and random PB99IMG boots and one successful run of:
RUU_Bravo_Telstra_WWE_1.15.841.14_R4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_123851
I had what I imagined was a stock phone running an ancient Telstra release (it is a Telstra branded phone - the other world wide English RUUs refused to recognise the phone - 130 error).
I tried re-flashing the baseband radio, ClockworkMod v2.5.0.7 Recovery and MIUI... and wound up back to square one stuck in the MIUI logo and the RUU I used to get back to stock is now refusing to do anything) and this time I noticed my phone reports:
BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 0.75.0000
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYMT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Mar 5 2010, 21:12:15
So somehow my PVT4 S-OFF 0.93 changed to the above. Which I don't understand... I thought that only a Goldcard could do something like that. None of the recovery tools seem to want to deal with HBOOT 0.75 and the fact that I'm S-ON would appear to be a pain.
The other thing that really confuses me is that how come if the phone is S-ON it lets me wipe everything and install the latest Marange MIUI ROMs ? Surely if it's S-ON then these would have to be signed (maybe they are for all I know).
Finally, if I use adb when the phone is stuck in it's MIUI boot logo I'm amazed I can get a root shell.
Anyone got any advice on how my phone got into such a mess, how to fix HBOOT and get a decent ROM running again ?
Any help hugely appreciated. The more detail the better.
Many AtDhVaAnNkCsE
Cheers,
Doug

How where you s-off, with hboot 0.93? Alpharev hboots have 6.93 etc.
Anyways, did you try the 2.3 RUU? Check my sig.
You can flash roms with s-on, but you can't change recovery.

To be honest I couldn't quite remember the state of my HBOOT I just new that it had been newer than 0.75, possibly 0.80, and that I had S-OFF and PVT4.
Your suggestion worked perfectly! I ran the RUU without issue to upgrade to 2.3 which gave me a new 1.x HBOOT and then I ran revolutionary and was then able to install MIUI. Smooth as...
Thank you so much!
I find the howto guides out there have lots of how but not too much why. I like detail on why things work or don't. Like why did that RUU work when so many others I tried didn't... did HTC make RUU 2.3 more forgiving in it's identification of supported phones ?
Anyway, once again many thanks for your kind help.
Cheers,
Doug

[Q] Desire does not boot - no recovery, just fastboot

Hi
I was a happy camper with a HTC Desire GSM PVT4 with cwm and Mildwild.
I had a modified partition with the CM7r2 version and A2SD. Happy
two days ago while on the phone he suddenly whitescreened on me, since then, no boot
I can't boot in recovery any more.
What i did:
- clear storage
- tried with flasher for another recovery, no luck (as explained on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632)
downgraded to alpharev unlock.
Right now I don't want to go bricking my phone, cause being stuck with a nokia don't remember how old it is is not my cup of tea...
I want to return it to normal stock (or any other rom, but stock would be great)
So:
When boot:
Alpharev Unlock
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT 6.93.9999
TOUCH PANEL SYNT0101
RADIO 5.11.05.27
Aug 10 2010
I prefer to use the PB99IMG.zip method, because I don't have good experiences with USB.
Anyone has any idea if it's safe an if it will work to use this http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip at this stage?
I also read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172879, and it seems an equal problem, apart from the PVT-version
Thx in advance..
