Kernal Flash help! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm so sorry to bother you and thank you in advance for your taking the time to read this. I flashed the EL29 kernel for my epic 4g touch through ODIN. After it exited download mode, the splash screen now says that samsung gt-19100 with a yellow triangle. Is there a fix for that?

You can get rid of the triangle with the triangle away app from the app store, or by getting a usb jig. Rwilco's awesome website gives the step by step process.

I can't even get boot. I just now got into recovery. It installed Rogue ET recovery, so I'm gonna see if backing up my rom will work. Thanks!

Update
Was able to get back into the phone after flashing in a rom, but splash screen still says gt-19100.

You'll have to buy a USB jig or update to ICS and just use triangle away.

Yep, triangle away only works if you on ICS. The triangle is samsung's way to show an unofficial kernel was flashed to the phone.

Thanks! I was able to get it back to stock EL29 and get rid of the triangle once the kernel was reset.

Glad it worked for you.

I used the USB jig method.

Just in case
This is why I always keep a stock GB (or ICS now I guess) ODIN image, nothing like good old stock to keep the soft bricks to a minimum

When you root your phone a yellow triangle will appear on your splash screen and stay until you decide to remove it. Theres a thread showing how to remove it. The odin flash counter is built in to the phone to keep track how many times you flash something through odin. Theres also a thread showing how to reset the counter.

Trying to go back to GB after FB17. Brick now?

I renamed touch cwm recovery to update.zip, put it in /cache, then used the stock FB17 recovery to flash that recovery from cache.
The stock recovery restarted into cwm.
I then did clear data/factory reset, it said "formatting data, formatting cache", and then it hung up. I tried hard reset by holding power button.
Now, whenever I power on the phone, it just has the blue led lit and does nothing.
I tried power+vol up/vol down after a battery pull. Same result.
Is this thing bricked?
What are my options?
Thanks.
I've went back and forth countless times. I'd suggest using odin to go back.
Can you get into Odin mode?

I remember reading about it somewhere today. It worked for someone.
I don't know what I did wrong, should have freaking odin'ed it.
But of course, I also read about several people for whom odin didn't work.
Does a jig not work? Samsung phones are hard to brick.

They are only a few bucks. Worth trying.
Guess nobody reads around here. As much as I wanna try a leak, Ive been using parts of the day to gather knowledge before I get flash slappy. ONCE AGAIN to anbody who reads this do NOT use rom manager it has caused multiple issues. Use odin to get back to a stock recovery and THEN restore a nandroid.
Yeah get jiggy with it first.

Yeah I bet a jig will get you up and running. The only real way to brick this phone is to **** up your bootloader.

You don't even need to rename the recovery kernel to update.zip. I've been flashing EL29 kernel with FB17's stock recovery a lot to switch back and forth. Unfortunately as I have read, flashing the touch recovery is known to be problematic. I flash steady's EL29 kernel and everything went well.

ok, I'm gonna make a jig tomorrow and report on the progress.
EDIT: Just activated my old evo3d. Damn, I almost forgot how well that phone fits in the hand!
If only it was a bit thinner for pocketability and the blacks weren't so lcd'ish nonblack!
jig
did the jig work i have the same thing blue light

How do I make my reboot screen read the proper model again?

So, I flashed a kernel that caused my reboot display to show the GT-I9100 instead of SPH-D710. And there is a yellow sign with "!".
Do I need to run the original one click odin file?
Oh btw, I'm rooted FF18 update. I prefer the agat recovery in lieu of cwm.
use triangle away. Free in the forum but 1.99 in the market. Resets binary counter. Flashing custom kernels brings up the triangle. Only works on ICS but since your on ICS it will work for you.

Triangle away only works on ICS.
If you can't/don't want to switch to ICS, then you will probably have to make/buy a jig (I just searched Amazon for phone jig and found like 10)
After you get rid of the yellow triangle, either triangle away on ICS or Jig. Flash kernels via mobile odin. It won't mess with the binary counter.
(no yellow triangle afterwards)
Yea i got it. Just did a one click restore back to el29 root and did the basics got back to cwm and restored now im back and running with out the triangle. Thanks for the input homie

[Q] How to get my T-mobile Galaxy S 3 back to stock to send it to Samsung??

I have my device rooted and have a custom modem and rom and recovery..... Is there a way I can just flash it so that Samsung does not know I made those changes to the phone....? I already have triangle software to get it back to official status but what about anything else...? Will they make me pay if they find out it was rooted and modified or will they just ship it back? THANKS in advance guys!! The buttons on the device stick and I have a bad camera so it def needs to be fixed...
I just did that last night to my phone. And it's fully stock right now as if I bought it from a t mobile store.
Download the official lh2 update from samsung-updates. Com
Before you Odin it. Use triangle away to reset count to 0. Reset and wipe. Then do a full Odin if the official lh2 update.
It will flash the modem and official software

Thanks everyone! I guess I missed that in my search through the forums... I should be all good now! :victory: I hope that Samsung actually fixes all of my problems... This is my first time dealing with them for service but so far they are paying for all of the shipping and it's being shipped UPS 2nd day air so that's a plus for them!
Well I have done everything stated in this thread and I cannot get my phone to boot past the flashing Samsung screen with the blue led on....? I even did the process twice just to make sure and it won't boot to the os... I am lost here!
UPDATE:I forced the phone into recovery and cleared cach and reformatted phone and I'm all good now... Thanks guys!!

I read triangle away doesn't work for the t999, does it? please tell me it does haha. I downloaded the original software from samsung updates and I'm about to try this but after I Odin the factory software does it automatically flash the original recovery on it as well or do I need to flash the stock recovery as well? also should this be done before or after the triangle away as this may trip the counter again!? thanks for your help!!
It works. Just flash stock image thru Odin and it will give you stock recovery, rom, modem. No need for triangle away after that.
Found ther link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31890397

If you don't mind to wipe EVERYTHING, you can use Kies to install the stock ROM.
Turn the phone off, and enter Odin mode (downloading...) by pressing and holding both volume down and home while powering the phone on, then plug the phone in and run Kies and do reset and update.
