When you root your phone a yellow triangle will appear on your splash screen and stay until you decide to remove it. Theres a thread showing how to remove it. The odin flash counter is built in to the phone to keep track how many times you flash something through odin. Theres also a thread showing how to reset the counter.

I'm so sorry to bother you and thank you in advance for your taking the time to read this. I flashed the EL29 kernel for my epic 4g touch through ODIN. After it exited download mode, the splash screen now says that samsung gt-19100 with a yellow triangle. Is there a fix for that?
You can get rid of the triangle with the triangle away app from the app store, or by getting a usb jig. Rwilco's awesome website gives the step by step process.

I can't even get boot. I just now got into recovery. It installed Rogue ET recovery, so I'm gonna see if backing up my rom will work. Thanks!
Update
Was able to get back into the phone after flashing in a rom, but splash screen still says gt-19100.
You'll have to buy a USB jig or update to ICS and just use triangle away.

Yep, triangle away only works if you on ICS. The triangle is samsung's way to show an unofficial kernel was flashed to the phone.

Thanks! I was able to get it back to stock EL29 and get rid of the triangle once the kernel was reset.
Glad it worked for you.

I used the USB jig method.

Just in case
This is why I always keep a stock GB (or ICS now I guess) ODIN image, nothing like good old stock to keep the soft bricks to a minimum

No kidding.
What is a flash counter and how can it effect me? I have a Sprint SGS II. TIA
Edit: i have the SGS III
The flash counter is a binary counter built in Samsung phones that is used by Samsung to basically help identify if you have been tampering with your firmware and flashing unofficial software.
Each time you flash unofficial firmware via Odin, your binary flash counter goes up by 1. Good news is this can be reset using triangle away.

Do a Google search for "Triangle Away". It's an app that will reset your counter back to zero

Just a heads up. Im not sure if you want to use triangle away. I think its only been tested om the s 3. But a flash counter is a counter that increases every time you use odin to push/flash a file to your phone. I dont really recommend using triangle away on ur s 2. Good luck. Im sure there is something in the s 2 forums to reset it back to 0. Ur warranty is void if its 1 or more
EDIT: i read that it will work for your sgs2 but only uf it is on ics.

Triangle away only works on ICS.
If you can't/don't want to switch to ICS, then you will probably have to make/buy a jig (I just searched Amazon for phone jig and found like 10)
After you get rid of the yellow triangle, either triangle away on ICS or Jig. Flash kernels via mobile odin. It won't mess with the binary counter.
(no yellow triangle afterwards)
Yea i got it. Just did a one click restore back to el29 root and did the basics got back to cwm and restored now im back and running with out the triangle. Thanks for the input homie

The flash counter only changes when you ODIN something. Anything happening in recovery doesnt change the flash counter. And ive used Triangle Away and it successfully resets it to zero regardless how many times youve ODIN something.

I'm pretty sure that's the exact opposite of what he just said.
" your device had been modified . software updates are not available " why is it saying that, is it suppose to say that im root and with TWRP
Did you use triangle away to reset your binary count to 0?

It doesnt matter if he uses Triangle Away right now, he has TWRP on it. Until he is 100% stock + rooted it will always say modified.

You're completely right. I forgot that he said he was still rooted. Assumed he unrooted at this point.

I'm 100% stock+rooted and it says under status that my phone is custom. Even After using triangle away. If I want to get the OTA update I'm gonna have to ODIN flash a stock firmware.

In triangle away check the box for 'System Modified Workaround', After a reboot it disables root for a few minutes, it should say Official after that.
What kind of recovery do you have? Stock?

yeah I'm having the same problem . I'm rooted with twrp recovery and stock rom.. . getting the same message op has . I know it's because of twrp recovery but is there any way to get the update without having stock recovery since I'm still on stock rom ?

Flash stock recovery (I think there is an Odin file floating around) then use triangle away. Should reset you back. The bootloader is running a check on the recovery at boot. If it doesn't match a certain value (I think it checks the signature) then it trips the counter.

Might not even matter, but just in case, do triangle away before you flash to stock. That's the way I've been told to do it, and its safer I guess.

Whoops. I actually responded to this post, buy I guess I quoted it.
To be safe, I'd use triangle away right before you flash you stock ROM. That's the way I was told to do it, and worked without a hitch. Plus, it's way easier.

Quite possibly the easiest thing to find. Use Google or YouTube and type in "how to unroot TMobile S4."
All the instructions give you links to the official stock Roms.
