what do you think of griffin's car chargers?
for example 2100mA:
or 2x1000mA:
isn't 2,1A too much, is it? maybe safer is 1A? but if EP851 has 1,5A so 2,1A is quite close... usually I use ep850 so from time to time 2,1A could be ok? but in the sun, behind car window, running gps and navigation and charging with 2.1A it would be veeery hot...
The phone limits the amount of current, not the charger.
If the charger could deliver 5.8 A it would be safe to charge your phone.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230769872255?redirect=mobile
Job done. Bargain!
so what is the highest level for lt26i? equal to ep851 = 1,5A?
original Sony AN400 is 1,2A so for fast charging 2,1 would be OK? or no really difference (1.2A vs 2,1A)?
2.1A is pretty much perfect. You wont find a faster charger.
If you get it and it feels really slow, try one of these
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141
or
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-power-adapter-for-samsung-p1000-81753
They prevent the phone from charging at USB rate (500ma). I have tested both of these and they work great.

I have a belkin one, not sure of the model number or ampage but having screen on 100% and Co-Pilot running the phone uses more charge than the charger delivers. It only looses 1% every 30 mins or so mind.
Bought this a few days ago.. works great:
http://www.voelkner.de/products/259564/Sony-Car-Kit-Halter-Kfz-Ladekabel.html
I picked up one of the smaller chargers like shown in the images and found that it doesn't work in my car (2003 Renault Megane) seems that the connectors are too far down the charger to connect inside the socket.
Sony give me the original charger for car. If you want here is the model: Sony ErIcsson AN300
Best regards
I gave in and bought one of the flat griffin chargers. £9.99 from HMV. Works brilliantly. 20% to 75%, while streaming music over Bluetooth in a little over an hour

Hi all,
Just a quick question, anyone currently using a 2000 / 2100 mah USB car adaptor with their G-Note?
I currently have a 1000 mah adaptor I believe and after a 2.5 / 3 hour journey, whilst charging, connected to the cars bluetooth and using Co-Pilot, I was down to about 20 / 30 % I think at the end of it.
Will the 2000 / 2100 mah USB car adaptors off ebay be ok to use with the G-Note and will it help keep the phone charged when using the phone as a SatNav?
See link to ebay item
Thanks in advance.
A DC power supply shouldn't be measured in mAh... Maybe they meant 2100 milliamperes? 2100 milliamps would be 2.1 amps which is the more amperage than my HP Touchpad charger (2 amps) which should be more than enough.
I don't know how much I would trust an ebay seller that can't even get the terms correctly, but if it's a 2.1 amp charger it should be fine.
Cool, thanks for the heads up PickleHead, I just thought that mAh was the rate of amp flow per hour and didn't realise it was specific for discharge rate of batteries. I'll have another look around.
Just had a look on the back of the USB mains plug for the Note and my Dell Streak and they both have OUTPUT @ 1.0A which is 1 amp right? But a 2.1 amp USB car adaptor should still be fine right? What about 3.1 or even 4.2 amp ones....or are they way too much for the Note?
I've also discovered today what a thirsty little beast the Note is while running satnav. I have a 1 amp car charger with the centre pins shorted together to force the phone to go into "AC Charging" mode, which it does perfectly well. However, over a 20 mile, 30 minute journey I was seeing the battery drop by about 1% per mile (every 90 seconds) whilst charging. That was with CoPilot Live Premium. On the way back I switched to Navfree, with pretty much the same result. I even have CoPilot set to dim the display in between turning announcements. On my old phone that make the difference between a solidly increasing charge and one that struggles to keep up. On the Note it was losing charge even with that feature enabled.
I'm going to need to be finding an alternate charger for the car, so recommendations would be welcome. I can't see a 2 Amp charger being a problem. The Note should take as much as it needs/wants, so long as the charger lets it have the juice it demands.
I would go for the official dock, except I'm told that it won't accommodate the Note whilst protected by a gel skin/case, so the official dock is a non starter for me.

Griffin PowerJolt Micro for iPad.
Output: 5 volts DC at 2.1 amps
Output power: 10 watts
http://store.griffintechnology.com/ipad/original-ipad/powerjolt-micro-ipad
My Griffen Powerjolt charges the battery while Google navigation is running.
It's possible Google nav is less of a power drain than Navfree. I'll have to try it.

I am using the original samsung galaxy tab charger which is rated at 2amps, it works fine with igo, but while using pandora, blurtooth a2dp and igo, the phone charges slowly...

I hav always used a 2A car adaptor as even the Nexus One was a thirst beast as it played the audio over bluetooth to the car dock that had its own speaker.
It works fine with Navigation/Navfree/Waze and the phone charges rather than discharges slowly with the lower power adaptors. The Official Samsung Car Dock comes with a power adaptor that is only rated at 1Amp.
The adaptor I use was intended for an iPad which needs at least 2A. Some adaptors have ratings that should be taken with a pinch of salt. If you can find one rated for an iPad (the type that plugs into the cigar socket and has a USB socket on it rather than an integral iPad connector) then you can't go wrong.
For those asking, I got my Samsung Car Dock from Handtec (in the UK) at: http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/5881/samsung-galaxy-note-official-vehicle-dock-kit-
I have the micro usb power cable from the original htc Nexus One car dock. I believe that this provides a 2 amp charging current, and my note charges, albeit slowly while using the phone as a sat nav with google maps
On a similar note about charging (which seems appropriate here), I have the original Galaxy Tab which doesn't allow charging over USB with the standard cable. However I bought an adapter which allows the Tab to charge from a USB port but you can't use it for data, I'm wondering if it's ok to use the same adapter with the Note so it charges quicker off a USB port?
Thanks for the link to the car dock, that looks pretty good

Hello guys
I have a cheap USB charger I got on eBay.
I use my phone as a dash board cam (with the screen on) and the battery decharges faster than the charger can charge it.
Will it be possible for me to find a charger that will "keep up"
Thanks a lot in advance!
it could be either the usb cable if it's not stock or damaged but it very well may be the charger, look for a little bit higher end charger (as in not the cheapest one you can find) and it should work
The specs in the item description says 500-700 mA output at 5VDC. Not only is that low output current, but most list a minimum spec, not a range. You can probably assume 500 mA output for that one, which is not enough. The battery will discharge at a higher rate than that charger can provide.
Anyway, look for one that is rated for 1 Amp (or 1000 mA) output at 5 volts. This should be sufficient. I still use my HTC 1A charger that came with my Nexus One car dock for that reason.

Samsung phones seem to have 2 charging profiles, usb gives you around 450mah and ac gives you around 650mah.
650mah still isn't enough when doing nav/bluetooth streaming, until samsung starts using a full amp for charging you will never have a charger that will keep up.
motorola fast charger
you can use this one:
Search for "Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter micro-USB Rapid Rate Charger" on Amazon
I have been using this for quite a while now on Nexus 7, its just awesome. It has an output of 950+mah which would be enough for Nexus 7.

I used this Griffin-Powerjolt. Found it at walmart, and took it apart and soldered the two middle pins. But found my info here on XDA, but cant seam to find the thread. And I can play games, stream music, etc, and my charger keeps up and charges fine. But this post sums up your question.
Also I'm on AOKP JB and when I was on there ICS roms they have the charging mod so even when I had a cheap-o 500mah charger it saw it as an AC charger and charged at AC charge speed. I think also Cyanogenmod has implemented this also, but im not sure.
+1 for the Motorola charger recommended earlier. It puts out 950ma so the phone will read charging via 'AC' rather than 'USB'. Charges quick and will be able to keep up with BT and GPS navigation. Here is a direct link:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehi...Charger/dp/tech-data/B000S5Q9CA/ref=de_a_smtd
I've been using it with all of my Android devices and works very well. Great quality as well. Highly recommend!
I use the 2A Amazon branded charger. You'll want to set it in fast charge, because the phone thinks it is a usb charger. You can open it and short the pins, if you want.

Actual current draw (aka...how fast your phone charges) is not determined by the charger but rather by the phone itself. The ratings on the chargers is what they are capable of, but will be dependent on the device. People would be frying devices all the time by using one device with anothers charging cable that has a totally different output if it was determined by the charger alone.

x3 on this charger. Have used it for the last couple of Android phones as well. Work fantastically with my Nexus streaming music via bluetooth to my car stereo. Never has a problem keeping up.
I'm using my N1 charger still too. Keeps up with nav, stream music, and max brightness. I don't use BT, but otherwise I always gain quite a bit of charge.

oh in another way, you could install a custom kernel and enable fast charging, works for me though.
I bought 2 of these charging only cables. They work perfect, full "AC" charge through any car charger port.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007F1DV76/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
Put one in my car and my GFs car.
The problem is a "USB" charger spec doesn't allow for the higher voltage charging under most situations. Any cable that does provide the full "AC" charge is a 'non-USB compliant' charger (or something like that), thus, the cable I listed above doesn't say "USB" charger. That is a very brief explanation.

That works fine but I heard it uses your battery faster.
My car charger broke, so I'm in the market for a new one.
I know 2.1 amps should be pretty safe, but I also see some with 3 amps. Is that still safe?
What do you guys use?
Pretty sure the S3 limits the amperage coming in so anything 1 amp and above should work fine in a car.
Best Buy sells one by Rocketfish that's micro USB and it also has a USB outlet on the plug itself and it's not bulky at all.
I generally shy away from car chargers completely but that charger won me over with it's build quality and specs.

Is that to say that anything over 1 amp is "throttled" to 1 amp so I shouldn't bother getting a 2amp?
re: rocketfish.
I see a bunch on there around the $20 mark. Looks overpriced, just like everything else I've ever seen by rocketfish.
1000 amps would be safe. As long as the voltage is 5v your good. The device will only take a certain amount of amperage, and the output device will only supply what the device needs. Voltage is different, too much of it can damage circuitry.

Okay, so how much can the phone effectively use? Surely 1amp is better than 1/2 for charge speed, but does 2 give you fatter charging than 1,or no?
According to BMW Pro my phone will charge at up to 1200ma on the stock battery and 2000ma when using my Anker 4400mah battery when plugged into a 2.1amp charger. I can confirm that the charging time for the extended battery is only slightly longer than the standard battery but still lasts twice as long in use. So I do believe the phone is capable off making use of a 2.1amp charger it just limits the charge rate to around .5C to protect the battery.

I use a new Trent 2 amp charger and it works fine. I used to use a 1 amp Motorola charger and it barely charged couple of percent when I had bluetooth, music, waze, gps, and screen on during a 20 minute ride. With the 2 amp charger, I easily get an extra 7% or so after a 20 minute ride.
Has anyone had any success with after market rapid charging solutions? I see the OEM model number of the charger that came with the phone is ETA0U61JBEGSTA.
Has anyone found a generic equivalent for this charger? The last 2 amazon ones I bought were really slow charging & took over 4hrs to fully charge.
I use the monoprice 2.1 amp charger it works great. It may damage your battery but to me it doesn't matter I'll buy a new battery in a year for $15 if I have too.

6.50? very cheap
After seeing this article http://www.androidcentral.com/acces...mium-charger-rapid-charges-android-phones-too last year, I picked up a couple for $10ea. from an online source that was going out of business. They are available for ~$15 today. This is the only thing BB offers that rocks.
For an inexpensive but quality solution, try Monoprice.
Edit: If I forget to plug in at night, in the time it takes me to get ready to leave for work, I am at 90% or better.
Just FYI, for those commenting about using chargers higher than 1A (1000 mAh), the stock kernel will only allow 1A of current to reach the battery regardless if the charger is of a higher capacity. However there are custom kernels (such as Perseus) that allow this value to be overridden, so that the battery can be charged with more than 1000 mAh of current. It is recommended to not charge the battery with a value higher than 0.7 of the battery's total capacity. For the stock 2100 mAh battery, you will want to set the charging value to 1470 mAh or less.

I seem to remember seeing there was a cable mod to make the S3 charge faster? actually pull in more juice quicker? As I recall you had to modify the USB cable with a resistor in the right place?
I have plugged my S3 in a 2.1amp charger and I don't see it charging any faster than the 1.0amp charger. My wife's iPhone 4S however charges MUCH faster on the 2.1amp charger vs the 1.0amp charger
I'd like to figure out a way to make the S3 charger more quickly using a 2.1amp (or 1.0amp) charger if that's possible.... but I didn't book mark the thread when I saw it and can't find it again
Hey everybody.
I just got my Z3 Compact yesterday and it came with sony's quick charger. That was nice of Sony... Now charging is so quick that it's awesome. <3
However, I plan to get a magnetic charging dock. Perhaps Sony's one or the one by Kosee (search for it on Amazon. I can't post links). I wish to know if there would be any problems if I used the quick charger with the dock? Anybody here with the Kosee dock and using the quick charger with it? I don't want to buy the dock only to get it overheat or something and then become a paperweight in the future. That would be very sad.
Btw, I'm from Canada. Bought the phone right after launch day. My very first, proper, flagship Android phone (I used a Blackberry Curve before). It feels awesome and scary at the same time.

I don't see why there would using it with the dock. Essentially the dock is the same as a normal charger, it only allows your phone to sit in a certain position.

What's the Moto fast charger like?
Btw, when the battery level gets higher, the charging slows down. That's normal, right? I never owned a fast charging device, so I wouldn't know.
Is there any long lasting issues using a Quick Charger as opposed to the normal charger?
also 0-100% how log does it take with the quick charger?
I checked Samsung charger 5V/2A. From 0% to 10% - 10 min, 50% after 1 hour, full after 2,5 hours. I'm going to buy HTC fast charger witch is compatible with Qualcomm's fast charging 2.0 and will try it.

Interesting, the standard Sony charger that comes with the phone only takes around 3 hrs to full charge, saving 30 mins isn't that great, wonder if it can be improved on.
Sony's recommendation is to use the magnetic dock with a wall charger aka EP880/EP881 "quick charger." I regularly charge using a magnetic cable plugged into either a wall charger or USB 3.0 port, and I have not had any issues.
Just a heads up: I've noticed that the lower your battery level is, the faster it charges. As the level gets higher, the charge rate slows down. I've seen my phone go up 1% in 10 seconds (from 4% to 5%). However, when my phone was at 98% it took well over a minute to get to 99%. Maybe the fast charger isn't meant to make your battery fly from 0 to 100% as fast as possible, but to provide a fast (but short) boost when you're close to running out.
I wish I had done proper scientific tests, with apps and timers and stuff. But, I was lazy and chatting on my phone at that time. I can assure you that my above statements are true and not made up to impress people.
Another thing I've learnt: Even the Motorola turbo charger does the same thing. It's even mentioned in their website that the battery level has to be substantially depleted for fast charging. The rate will slow down as battery level goes up.
Yes that's correct, presumably a battery protecting measure, reasoning behind it will be that you may be in a hurry and want to get as much as possible in a short time on a very empty battery, hence the very fast charging at low battery levels.

The dock dont use the microUSB port
You only get the benefit of quick charge 2.0 when plugged in to the usb port on the phone. It has to negotiate the connection through data. Using a quick charger in conjunction with the dock will be exactly as fast as a 2 amp non-qc charger.
Wrong. Dk48 and presumably some magnetic cables ARE qc2.0 compatible. Tested on dk48 - negotiated 9v/1A
Quick charge 2.0 is 9v/1a?
So if I buy the original dock with cable i should have fast charging?
Can you please share charging speeds?
